After dinner and a walk we tried to go to the Sky Bar atop La Scaletta, but didn't have a reservation. We spoke to Reception and secured one for 8:30 PM. A waiter brought us a complimentary "welcome drink" which, after one sip, I passed to one of my friends. I ordered a Prosecco. We enjoyed an hour, after which we were told we had to leave, most likely because we were not ordering food.. This was a beautiful spot with a lovely view and a breathtaking sunset, but the manager (I assume) was rude and unwelcoming, accusing us of coming on the wrong evening. Clearly, Reception had erred. Our booking receipt sent by the hotel indicated a superior double room overlooking the Boboli Gardens. When we arrived we were shown to a first floor room with no windows other than the entry doors. The hotel staff said that his manager would have to correct the wording in their reservation portal - that it was more or less a translation error. No manager ever contacted us, it was not a good feeling. The room had a very strong odor of mildew. The shower was very nice though. read more

We stayed Monday night to Tuesday and what a great experience. We were driving to Firenze from Vicenza to spend the my. I booked this hotel and almost immediately I got a WhatsApp msg from them asking if I needed a parking spot or not. I said I did and they gave me 2 different garage services to call. I hadn't thought about parking and let me tell you, it was a blessing they did that for me as parking by the Ponte Vecchio is not easy. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel on checkout day till later when we were ready to get our car and leave. The room was surprisingly large with a king sized bed, night stands, table and two chairs. The room had a large closet with an in-room safe. The large window opened into a beautiful courtyard. Rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. The bathroom was nothing short of amazing (large, modern, beautiful, with great water pressure). The bed was very comfortable and we slept without issue. Did not need air conditioning while we were there in October. The location is good next to the Ponte Vecchio. Should you decide to walk from the train station (as we did), use google maps as the hotel site directions were very confusing. If you enjoy walking, most sites can be reached on foot. The hotel itself is located near grocery stores, pharmacies and more restaurant choices than you can ever visit.  Compared to the other hotels we visited during our stay in Italy, breakfast was a bit lacking (12 euros). Items were not varied much, but the view from the hotel roof top totally compensated for what was lacking in food choices! Unfortunately, we never made it to dinner because of all the other choices in the immediate area. My only issue was the layout of the hotel rooms. Crazy, especially if you're not very mobile. To use the lift was painful, so the stairs it was. Additionally, if you didn't have breakfast at the hotel, you really didn't get a chance to connect with the front desk. read more

My goodness Florence is a DREAM! My husband and I came to Florence for a portion of our honeymoon, and the Hotel La Scaletta staff provided a warm welcome as there was a yummy chocolate orange cake for two waiting for us in our room at our arrival with a note of congratulations! Such a sweet, generous way to start our stay. In addition, we felt our room was very SPACIOUS! Most European hotels we've encountered are shoeboxes, but this was comfortable, clean and modern. We selected a double queen size bed room...Very comfortable bed as well! As other folks have mentioned, it is in an incredible location. If you don't have a ton of time in Florence, this is the perfect location as it is walking distance to all of the biggies. We are big walkers, and we walked to every attraction that we had on our itinerary. Accademia, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, Boboli Gardens, Piazza Michelangelo, Mercato Centrale, etc. It is worth the price to be that conveniently located...saves you on cabs and saves the stress of any public transit. It was fairly close to the train station (Firenze SMN) which was helpful as well. The street was very busy with tourists, but you aren't far from quieter streets if you need to escape the hustle and bustle. Last but not least, you cannot beat the view up at the restaurant terrace connected to the hotel! Overlooking Boboli Gardens, it is a breathtaking place to be. The waiter was wonderful, and provided complimentary limoncello when we went up to the roof for a few evening drinks. There is a market very close by (Sapori & Dintorni) which is helpful...other good food suggestions if needed: Gusta Pizza is a MUST...get there early when they open! Roughly 5 minute walk in Piazza Santa Spirito...The Gusta Trattoria next door is great as well. On the same street as the hotel is Ristorante Celestino, which was convenient, delicious and good price. For cappuccino and pastries, Caffe Neri also on the same street was delicious. As is Don Nino over by the Duomo if you need someplace to stop while sightseeing. A little further away from the hotel but worth going to is Trattoria Za Za in Mercato Centrale...I have no words other than every course was incredible and we ended up buying their cookbook. Last but not least, really fresh, giant sandwiches at All'Antico Vinaio over by the Uffizi. We would absolutely come back to Hotel La Scaletta, and recommend that you do too! We loved the hotel. We stayed here in the low season and got an amazing deal on an upgraded room, so I fully admit my review may be a little slanted towards the positive. But this was a really great place to stay in Florence, our room was perfect and the location couldn't be better. The hotel is reasonably close to everything and we walked everywhere. The hotel occupies the upper floors of an old building on the south side of the river, just on the edge of the tourist district. We had a lot of trouble figuring out the local bus system, but apparently there is a city bus that stops nearby...maybe you're smarter than we were? The hotel is also about 10-15 minutes walk from Santa Maria Novella train station. The proprietor and front desk of the hotel really couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. They helped us with our sightseeing schedules, maps, restaurants, etc. While we had an upgraded room, it was extremely modern, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was equipped with such foreign extravagances as a heated towel-warmer and a bidet. After spending some time figuring out how these strange appliances worked, we were drying out towels and tickling our bottoms just like the locals. And we liked it. Breakfast was included if you stayed more than one night. It was just basic European fare - pastries, meat, fruit, etc. - nothing terribly fancy, but awesome if it's free. The front desk was also nice enough to hold our backpacks after checkout while we walked around Florence on our last day. Given the great room, service, breakfast and location, this was a great place to stay. Recommended. read more

Dinner here was a terrific experience. Raphael and Esmeralda are fantastic and ensure you have a wonderful meal and enjoy the view, food and wine. They are both very genuine and sweet. Raphael is extremely knowledgable and confident in his wine selection. We are so glad we trusted him in selecting the Le Serre Nuove Dell' Ornellaia 2011 Bolgheri Rosso for us. It was more tha terrific and went perfectly with my truffle dishes, even the octopus appetizer (which I would order again in a heartbeat). The service was caring and thoughtful, not what you expect from a city with hoards of tourists. Raphael is passionate about his whiskey (especially Japanese) so if you like peaty and smokey whiskey he will love to chat if he has the time. read more

We didn't stay at this hotel but we made a reservation online to dine at the roof-top restaurant of this hotel. We made sure to request the top floor with a roof-top view when we reserved online under the "special requests" section. When we arrived we were told there were no tables available on the top floor and were offered a seat on the bottom floor (nothing much to see and we came here specifically for the view). Either they don't read the special requests section of their online booking page or they simply don't care about special requests made online. When we told them we requested the top floor they said "there are only five tables and everyone wants those tables." If you are going here for dinner for the view MAKE SURE YOU CALL THEM in advance to confirm your table. The view is truly stunning from up there. I wish we could have enjoyed it. read more

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. We had requested a table for 8 with a nice view of Florence, as we were celebrating our first night together as a family in Italy. Our host and sommelier, Luis, delivered big time. Upon arrival, he greeted us and informed us that our rooftop table was not quite ready, but offered us some Prosecco and appetizers as we waited. Once seated, it was a fantastic dinner with a beautiful view. Luis was very attentive, answered any questions we had on the food preparation, and offered suggestions as to wine selection and pairing. He went as far as to ask us about food allergies just to be safe. At the end of the meal he treated some of us to some limoncello. If we ever find ourselves in Florence again, we will be going back! Located just a block south of Ponte Vecchio, it's close to all the action without being completely overrun by people. You pay a premium for this location but it's well worth it. There is also a bus stop just a few hundred feet away in front of Palazzo Pitti. Service was friendly and they were helpful with the best ways to get certain places and good restaurant/bar recommendations. We booked an economy room and it was bigger than I expected. Bathroom is nice but the shower had a little bit of a drainage issue. Other than that, no problems at all. Didn't experience the restaurant but we did have well-made cocktails on the patio bar. Would definitely come back if we're in Florence in the future. read more

We reserved a room here on BestWestern Rewards points; our reservation was for a queen and a single bed/sofa. The clerk said we had reserved a standard double; I tried to show her our printed reservations specifying the queen+single and she refused to look at it saying they did not have it, and we had reserved the standard double. She finally agreed to upgrade us to a "superior room" - it was early so we left our luggage; when we returned, we were shown to our 'superior' room which had 2 single beds; still not what we reserved. We returned to the front desk after unsuccessfully trying to get in touch with the Best Western Office and were finally reluctantly shown to the room we had reserved with the queen bed and separate single. The clerk then was rude to us, told us we were liars, disabled our keys one day and basically made our stay very uncomfortable for our 3 nights Clearly basic customer service is not a priority here. I would avoid this hotel; I'm sure there are other accommodations with more civil receptionists read more

We have been traveling all over Italy for the last week and eaten at some amazing places but La Scaletta has stolen our hearts. This restaurant delivers on every note. Each dish is a work of art from every culinary perspective. I recommend Michelin visit and be as awed as we were. Raffael, a manager and sommelier deserves special mention as he guided us through the evening's experience in the most professional but charismatic way. Worst experience in all of Italy. They told us they had no idea construction would be right outside our window till 5:30 am with jackhammers and all other machinery/ sirens. We did not sleep AT ALL and to top it off.... they only gave 1 complimentary breakfast for this "mishap." They were fully aware of of the city's roadwork and didn't communicate or offer to switch us to a room on the opposite side of the hotel. They were not accommodating and for this, we give the lowest rating possible. They should have removed this night off our payment, but showed their true colors of just wanting our money. They didn't want to give us an experience. They wanted to get us in and ship us out. They couldn't even offer to help with our luggage. Would never stay here again. The breakfast is also 12 euros and terrible. Stay in an AIRBNB or another hotel. Too many wonderful options in the area that do not involve awful service to make your trip exhausting and not a vacation. We feel that we should not have paid for that night at all. It was honestly hurtful. They didn't care at all. read more

Not sure why Booking.com and Yelp has such good reviews for this place. We stayed in Florence for 3 nights in the Junior Suite w a garden view. Be aware the garden view is a view of a small courtyard and there is a parking lot to the left. The location is great, the bathroom in the suite was large and the views from the roof are nice but that's about it. Our "king size" bed was not a king size, it was two mattresses pushed together to make it a king size with a line down the middle from the two mattresses pushed together. The bed was also rock hard and the sheets smelled awful as well. The wi-if never works, we ended up turning it off most the time bc the signal was so poor. The noise from the halls and hotel was awful as well. You can hear everything! The furniture is white leather, super outdated. I get you pay for location but that's all this place has going for it. There's no way this should be a 4 star hotel by any means. Would not stay here or recommend this place. This suite was definitely not worth the money we paid for it. read more
