For example, there are two sections of desserts and a large salad section and another section with "American" food but only three hot tables of "Chinese" food. I'm telling you: THIS is the spot! The food is hot and fresh and the selection is excellent. They've got the usual salad/dessert areas, hibachi, FRESH sushi, a small selection of staple carbs for the picky eaters, and Chinese inspired dishes to choose from. The General Tso's chicken-- the corner-brick of any buffet-- has a tang I can't put my finger on. Perhaps it is infused with the Cantonese healing elixir I used to recover from wet-bed when I was studying buffets abroad. Definitely my favorite Chinese buffet in the area! They have a lot to choose from. I really like that they have Crawfish on their buffet! I love crawfish! I will say sometimes the food quality can be hit or miss depending on the time of day, sometimes food may be hotter than others or more fresh than other days, but they keep the buffet stocked. This place is amazing. By far the best Chinese buffet I have been to. It's $8, quick and easy, and has any type of food you want. The sushi bar is excellent, it's on par with an average quality sushi restaurant, except that it's all you can eat. They have good brisket, potatoes and other American style foods. They obviously have a bunch of options for Chinese food, which tbh, wasn't as good as I would have hoped. But it it's still on par. There is a Mongolian barbeque section where you choose raw ingredients and have a chef fry them up, which is great. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. First: it's clean and I have yet to get explosive diarrhea an hour after eating. Second: all you can eat. Third: hibachi grill. While they offer up a dozen self-serve food bars of hot foods, veggies, sushi, and salad, my favorite is the raw stuff! Hibachi. Grill. The hibachi grill is awesome. You know the drill: load up a plate with an insane pile of veggies and meats to an unfathomable degree. I mean, you can come back as many times as you want, but it's like a quest to see how much you can stack on a single plate with an egg on the side and get it to the chef without dropping a single pea pod. I have played with a number of different strategies, but I have found a foundation of shredded cabbage works best. Pile on the onions, pea pods, green peppers, carrots, mushrooms, mini corns, tomatoes, and celery, then, add oodles of shrimp, crab, beef, and chicken. Don't forget to add the egg! I get mine without sauce, but they have a variety of sauces, according to your preference. While I wait for my food to cook, I enjoy my appetizer while waiting - crab Rangoon with red sauce and some fried chicken drumsticks. I can usually eat about a dozen of them while waiting for the hibachi chef to finish my plate. After a nice size meal of meats and veggies, I hit the fruit and dessert sections. They have Hawaiian salad - you know the multi-colored marshmellowy dessert with pineapple chunks? Yeah, that fluffy stuff! I get chocolate pudding and some pineapple chunks, and, the fresh cut bananas with the strawberry sauce. So damn good! This place rocks for under $10 per person! read more

Server brought us our first drink and didn't come back for refills had to flag someone down and then she gives us sweet tea with NO ice . It affordable, clean and they have a nice selection of meals for both dinner and lunch. What I love most is their craw fish. They had a lot of items to choose from, however I think someone was mixing up where items went. There is an area with cold food that is meant for the grill. Well someone took the noodles and mixed them with the hot noodles and it was a mess. My wife and I visit about twice a week shortly after 2 pm. This time just happens to coincide with our lunch and during a time when Grand Buffet runs a discount. Today Grand Buffet denied me my discount because of the time of day. Oddly enough I confirmed the time on my cell phone and I was well into the discount time period. Even though I was quite angry, I decided our meal was so awful that it didn't warrant a return visit anyway. Most of the items on the buffet were not hot. The Generals Chicken was not only cold..but mushy. My wife had far more complaints because she started getting sick about midway thru the meal. A few minutes earlier she had told me the sushi didn't seem right. Now, it appears the remainder of her day will be spent in the bathroom. So do yourself a favor. Do your family a favor. And lastly, do your wallet a favor and skip this establishment and choose another when you are in the mood for Chinese. read more

The food is fantastic! The hibachi gets backed up but you can find great items, that are similar, on the buffet. I wish they had a dip for the crab ragon, and better labeling. The place is mostly clean. Cleaner than any other buffet I've ever seen for sure. My kids LOVE buffets and get really excited about this place. I love that they have a huge variety of things so the kids can try new things. The endless sushi is my favorite part. I could eat sushi all day! The only qualms I have is that the waitresses never really waitress. They rarely refill drinks, ignore you if you ask for kids refills, and NEVER bring the lemons I repeatedly request. We spend half our time there waiting on a check. There are weird signs demanding you not be wasteful. While I understand they want consumers to not be overzealous, I find these signs rude in nature. It puts too much pressure on me to force my kids to eat. The last thing I plan to do is force food down my kids throat and risk a future eating disorder. It can be hard, when preparing a plate, to really know what their appetite will be like and what they may enjoy and what they will not prefer. Additionally, the first two buffers are for the hibachi. There are NO signs referencing this. The first time we went my husband said something on the way home about the staying away from the first two because everything looked raw and it freaked him out. There really needs to be signs saying what everything is. It can't possibly be safe to not label those two buffers properly. Anyway, we really love the place. Don't let the downsides deter you from trying it. They have ample seating and they keep the food flowing fresh to the buffet. If something you wanted to try is out just circle back and they will probably have refilled it. They are super fast. Its been a few months since I wrote my original review so I thought I'd give it an update. First, a little about the reviewer.... As a general rule, I hate buffets. So when I say I like the Grand Buffet, that's saying a lot. I like the concept of being able to sample a variety of foods at a fixed low price, but I cannot stand the experience. When you get in line to select your dishes it feels like you're lining up at the trough. That's because typical buffet clientele in Evansville is overwhelmingly low-class, morbidly obese, and has no common sense for how you should act at a buffet. Its hard to enjoy the dining experience when the couple next to you each has plates stacked 6 inches high with leaning towers of crawfish. Also, if it takes the Mongolian Chef multiple plates to present your creation, you shouldn't have piled on 5 pounds of raw food for him. If you are hungry, that's fine. But why does everyone keep creating obnoxious heaping plates when they can go back in line as much as they please? Again, just saying I don't like how people are at buffets in general. But even with these drawbacks that haunt all local buffets, this one is worth the trip. Lately the Grand Buffet has been pushing hard to lure in new customers. I'm constantly seeing them pop up in coupons and they lowered the standard price of the buffet in August. Right now its $5.99 for a lunch and $7.99 for a dinner. At these prices you're getting a lot for your money. The soups and Mongolian Grill are both very good. The selection for the Mongolian Grill is the best in town. The chef takes more time cooking each dish than the one at Crazy Buffet. He seems more interested in quality than speed, which is fine by me. Grand Buffet also offer quite a few fresh fruits. A simple selection of sushi is included with the buffet at no extra cost. Service is always friendly, but sometimes they let the empty plates sit at your table too long. Pros: *Everyday low price *Good selection of ingredients on the Mongolian Grill *Sushi is included with the buffet at no extra cost *Plenty of fresh fruit *Decent American dishes....loved the Mac 'n cheese! Cons: *Some ingredients are still frozen when they are placed on the Mongolian Grill line *Lacking a good bourbon chicken & honey chicken dish *Sushi selections are very simple and they never change *Teriyaki chicken used to be good, but the last few times its been swimming in a pool of watery broth that had a strong onion flavor. What would need to change to earn a 5 star review from me: *Make sure the shrimp, beef, and pork are thawed before being placed on the Mongolian Grill line. Showed up here right at 11 for lunch during the week. 5.99. Lots of buffet tables to pick from although you'll quickly see most are dedicated to salads, fruits, desserts and other cold items. Only one table with the "classics"-- most not that great. Chicken on a stick, pepper chicken, and teriyaki chicken are good. Sushi is limited to fishless rolls with lots of cream cheese. Stick with the California roll--pretty predictable. Highlight of the whole place is definitely the mongolian grill. Two tables of protein and veggies to load your plate with.
