This is one of my favorite restaurants / bars. It is in a great location and is very convenient for meeting up with friends and family and is very warm welcoming. The ambience is one of the best in the area and the service is fanatic. The food is not the absolute greatest and can be pricey. That is the reason for the 4 starts. I've been wanting to try this place for a while because the reviews seemed good. The atmosphere is fun, the decor is trendy, its intimate. Perfect for double dates or friends meeting up. The drinks were amazing as well! We got margaritas and they did not disappoint. However, this place was a disappointment. Firstly, the hostess and all servers were wearing basically pajamas and lounge wear. Sweat pants, tie dye sweatshirts, old sneakers. It did not match the vibe of the restaurant. Secondly, the food was awful. The queso tastes like sour cream and the guacamole was brown and flavorless. I got tacos (the brisket was actually good) but the pollo taco and sauce was just awful. It seemed like all the food was boxed/frozen/ prepared by people just mixing things together instead of actual chefs. This place had so much potential I actually feel bad leaving this review. There is so much that needs to be changed. I will not be back unless there is all new staff and a whole new menu. read more

Had a great dinner here! Tried three different tacos and they were all really creative and very tasty. Atmosphere was super cool; the attention to detail with everything is super impressive and the decor is really fun. The queso dip and drinks were awesome as well. Gran Castor is a very cool place and we will definitely be back with our friends. And besides, the building used to be a Hooters so, I'd say replacing that with a fun new place is a big upgrade! read more

I wanted to like this place, the decor and waitstaff were great. The food isn't very good. Too many weird combinations going on that really don't taste that great. This was ridiculously flavorful and delicious. So happy to have them in Troy. We had Jack fruit, curry oxtail, and bahn mi tacos, salsa and guac with chips, the rice bowl with spicy (very) chicken, margaritas and they even have KBS and CBS on tap! Bahn mi tacos were my favorite with the union and Peruvian salsa. Highly recommend! We were quoted 35 minute wait at 6 pm on a Saturday but walked right up to two open seats at the bar. Both times I have been here there has been a slight wait, so my wife and I sat in the bar/fireplace area to wait for a table. This gave us a chance to try some of the cocktails, and all of the drinks I tried were phenomenal. The servers in the bar area were very attentive, and when our table was ready, they cashed us out very quickly. In terms of food, the queso dip is very good, and all of the tacos I tried were fantastic. This definitely is not authentic Mexican cuisine, but they have really put together a fun, eclectic menu. Went here for dinner with my husband last Friday night. They didn't take reservations and the parking lot was packed but we got seated right at the bar. We both got beers, split the Mallman pizza, and each had a taco. The bill came to $46, which was pretty reasonable. Service was quick and the waitress was great about offering recommendations. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun inside, with a wide variety of different seating choices. We are frequent visitors of the other restaurants by the same owner in Clarkston. My 2 friends and I met at the Gran Castor for lunch, the first impression I had of the interior was WOW! It does not look like any restaurant I've been in, it is so unique and eclectic....that theme is even carried out in the ladies' room, too....I had the Chop Salad, it was delicious and plentiful. One of my friends wanted a Quesadilla, it wasn't on the menu but the waitress said they could make it for her, my friend was impressed, said it was really good. My other friend had 2 tacos, the Taco Night one was a little too spicy for her, but she liked the Pollo Asada taco....only negative for us was that the music was a little too loud for us, we like to chat and the music kind of got in the way of our conversation. This is my new "go to" spot. The atmosphere is very inviting and artistic. Not only does this place offer great food, great drinks, but coffee and desserts too. There are two large bars to sit at as well as tables and booths throughout. My favorite area is the fireplace, with surrounding comfortable couches and chairs for you to lounge and have a few cocktails in. It has always been clean and great service! My only con is that I feel the food prices are a bit high considering the amount you get. Otherwise, I will continue to come back often! read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant. Upon walking in, the decor was super cool and eclectic so naturally I was excited to try the menu! But the fun stopped there. Our server seemed uninterested and bored when I asked questions about the menu, and didn't seem to know what was vegan, nor did she give us any suggestions or seem to care. So I tried the jackfruit tacos without crema, and they were not great; I'd say a 3 or 4 out of 10. I also tried the rice bowl made vegan and it was disgusting, and seemed like a mix of different flavors that did not compliment each other, with no direction whatsoever. After we finished our mediocre meal, I was still hopeful and excited to try a coffee from their coffee bar. But the woman had no clue about the vegan options and told me that every single syrup they had was made with "everything" (she said this numerous times) whatever that means. I asked her if the vanilla syrup was vegan and she said she didn't know but would check, but didn't seem too interested in helping me AT ALL. I was actually open to trying something but her lack of caring and attention completely turned me off. So decided not to order. It was a huge disappointment and mostly due to the service. :-( and lastly, the bathroom was out of paper towel. Ugh read more

Visited for the first time and found it a very pleasant event. Time was mid afternoon so pretty quiet. Had a table close to the fire pit...so was cozy and atmosphere was also pleasant. Big fan of this place! I tried it during their soft opening and wasn't sure how I felt. So I gave it another shot and it's now my favorite spot! The first time I went we had their chicken taquitos, avocado releno, and cheese bread. The second time around I decided to try their tacos and they were delicious! The flavors are definitely different than what we're used to but I think that is what makes this place so unique. The decor is beautiful and it's a great spot to hang out for drinks, great vibe overall. My only complaint is the music is soo loud in the back area it's hard to hear sometimes. I want to love this place. I've been 4+ times because I was in denial. The food is fine. It's not Imperial. But pretty good... The service is horrible. Bartender is not attentive, even when it's not busy. You can here the staff gossiping and complaining about each other and customers. The bartender also takes forever for seemingly no reason. It's not just one bartender that's bad. Seems like a work culture issue... If they get a strong manager in there, this place could be great. The allure of a new restaurant will soon wear off. Tried the soft opening menu. Rice bowl was tasty with grilled avocado on top. Son lived the pizza fresh from the wood stove. Husband liked the burrito and thought the black beans and rice should be added to the menu as a side. Margarita was tasty and color changing straw was a nice little extra. Decorating was fun. What a beautiful and fun atmosphere! The decor is absolutely beautiful. I went here with my mom tonight for the first time. We sat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive and nice. We got the queso for an appetizer. And tacos and Mac and cheese for dinner. I love that they use fresh corn tortillas. Our drinks were delicious. My mom had a margarita while I had a delicious coffee drink that was on their drink list. One of my new favorite spots for sure. read more
