A large group of us went in for some ice cream treats, and Graeter's did not disappoint! They have a whole host of "chip" flavors, which are various flavors paired with chocolate chips. The chips can be enormous, but they're still soft and chewable. (I'm not quite sure how they're able to do this, since my experience with frozen chocolate is that it is uniformly rock hard.) My girlfriend got their signature Black Raspberry Chip, which she absolutely loved. I got the Salted Caramel Chip paired with Toffee Chip, all on a waffle cone. (I wanted a sugar cone, but was advised strongly against it given how much ice cream would be heaped on such a tiny cone.) It was so tasty! The ice cream parlor is spacious inside. I don't think I'd ever been to this particular location until this past weekend. But we happened to be in this neck of the woods. Even on a Friday night we had no trouble finding free parking right across the street. This place had a consistent trickle of families throughout our time there. After ordering, we chose to sit at one of the tables in their back room. But they also have a couple tables near the front and even a patio in the back. This location provide the same great menu and friendly service that I find at any Graeter's. On this particular visit I opted for one scoop of S'mores and one of Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip. We also got a double dip cone and a milk shake. The S'mores makes an AMAZING milkshake, so I definitely suggest you give that a try! We can't wait to eat more of their fantastic ice cream again! I have been to many Graeter's in my day, and this Mariemont location is lovely. I arrived on a Saturday night before a movie (around 9:30pm) - the place was packed! The line moved quickly - to be served, you order all your ice creams with one person, then pay together. This works well for families with multiple kids/orders. The person who makes your ice cream (generally) also checks you out. It's a smart system because they already know what you ordered. Besides the ice cream being fantastic, don't be afraid to ask for samples of anything - I highly recommend trying the seasonal flavors. They say they don't last long and that's the truth! To try something new, I asked the woman who was serving us to tell me more about the Coffee Chillers - I wanted to order the Vanilla Coffee Chiller but was hesitant. She admitted that the caramel or mocha Chillers were more popular. I decided to try the Vanilla anyway - it comes with vanilla ice cream, espresso syrup and whipped cream, served like a milkshake. I loved it! When we were finished paying and walking away, she asked me how it was. I like that she went out of her way to make sure I was satisfied. She even said "We like to make sure you walk out of here happy." It sounds cliche, but she seemed to genuinely care about our experience. There is a small free parking lot right across the street. Graeter's is a MUST when you're visiting Cincinnati, and a must every so often just because. It's hands down the best ice cream I've ever had. The staff is happy to let you sample the many different flavors. Sometimes my husband gets a little sample crazy but no one ever seems to mind. My favorites are the signature Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip and the Buckeye Blitz. The chocolate is so dense and delicious, it's almost like a candy bar in your bowl. If you have an extra sweet tooth definitely go for a sundae. My favorite is the Tower. And if you're not feeling ice cream try a sorbet! I really like the Mariemont location. There is parking in the square and behind the restaurant. The square is a super cute area to visit. The staff is always friendly. It's one of the places people hear about when they are about to visit or move here. That's how we found out about it. In fact, I heard about Graeters before I heard anything else about the city of Cincinnati. So, it's a must do thing when you come here. Depending on which store you patronize, the style will be a little different. Some are just for ice cream. Others have baked goods and candy. This one in Mariemont is just like an old fashion ice cream parlor or shoppe (you know, with two Ps and an E). Here are my favorite flavors (in no particular order): Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Original Salted Caramel Mocha Chocolate Chip Raspberry Sorbet Coffee Peach (seasonal) Cinnamon (seasonal) with hot apple topping There are other seasonal flavors as well. A new one is included each month for a two-month run. Plus, this Graeter's has Star. She usually works evenings. Ask for her. She's a wealth of Graeter's history. (...and tell her that I sent you. She may not know who you're talking about. Just mention the house warming.) ;-) Four stars only because there's no public restroom and most of the flavors and toppings lean to the overly sweet side. I got the much hyped raspberry chip and was pretty underwhelmed. I might have gotten my expectations up too high, I mean, at the end of the day ice cream is ice cream. I will say this location is very cute and is right across the street from a little fountain and square in Mariemount. It would be really nice to grab an ice cream cone and wander over there to sit. This is one of the smaller Graeters locations with a correspondingly smaller selection, but what they do have is all the same great Graeter's quality you'd get at any of their locations I am more a fan of the pastries than the ice cream (I am a Aglamesis guy) so when I am here, it is generally in the morning for a danish or a cheese crown. I love that they occasionally do fruit filling based cheese crowns instead of (or in addition to, at times) the usual/customary cinnamon streusel version. The cinnamon squares are good too, but with all the powdered sugar on top I am not sure I can recommend these for anything other than "stopped forward" eating, ie never in the car on the way into the office. Err, you're gonna have to trust me on that one. :-) The service is always good. There are usually a pair of very nice older ladies manning the counter, and they always have samples out, and they are quick to let you know whats good on any particular morning. Peanut Free!! Hallelujah! The vanilla based ice creams are peanut allergy safe! Vanilla, choc, mint choc chip and black raspberry chip and the sorbets are all safe! Make sure to get it in the pint though so it's not contaminated by the ice cream scoop. The store manager, Brian, was incredibly helpful. The last time I was here, I accidentally left my Sweet Rewards card and a pretty hefty gift card. My phone number wasn't linked to my account, so how would they get it back to me? I give it a 5 star rating just for the one concoction I am actually embarrassed to order, do so sparingly, but when I do, enjoy it with each and every single bite and can only eat this dish about a third at a time or I would make myself royally sick. Here it is: one scoop of double chocolate chip (it's ALL about those HUGE CHIPS), with hot fudge AND, yes, chocolate sprinkles. If you haven't ever had their chocolate sprinkles, do so now. They aren't those waxy, fake chocolate sprinkles you get in a jar, but fine, delicious chocolate shavings in uniform size. The ice cream is legendary in this city for a reason - so super creamy and rich you can feel a coating of what I'll just call deliciousness on one's tongue. Their Chip Wheelies, hidden away in a freezer with their pints, are so good too and probably overlooked due to their location. Graeter's take on an ice cream sandwich, they come in chocolate chip, double chocolate chip and black raspberry chip, rolled in chocolate sprinkles and sandwiched between chocolate chip cookies. Also delicious is the watermelon sorbet and my husband's favorite, a malted chocolate milkshake. Ended up getting a double peanut butter chocolate chip in a bowl to eat there. My wife and I moved to town this summer and quickly discovered we lived within walking distance of an ice cream shop. Not only that, this shop has the best ice cream, apart from homemade, that I have ever had. Living close to a Graeter's definitely challenges our healthy lifestyle goals. Our favorites are Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip and Mint Chocolate Chip. This week my parent's were visiting and went to Graeter's to get a couple pints of the Black Raspberry. They weren't paying attention and accidentally bought the Cherry Chocolate Chip instead. The carton color is not that similar, but just make sure you read the label on your carton before you leave the store or you may have a surprise when you take a bite later. Though not as good as the black raspberry the cherry was also delicious. Graeter's has both the strongest and most natural fruit flavors I have ever had in a store-bought ice cream. Where they truly best homemade ice cream is their chocolate chips. It's more accurate to call them chocolate chunks. I don't know how they mix such large chunks of chocolate into their ice cream. But I'm certainly glad Graeter's does. Graeter's will pack a cooler with dry ice and 6-12 pints of ice cream and either ship it for you or let you deliver it yourself. The price for the cooler in addition to the ice cream pints is reasonable. I recently took some to my in-laws who live about 10 hours away. From the time it was packed in the store to when it was placed in my in-laws freezer was about 26 hours. Upon arrival the ice cream was just as frozen as when it was packed. I think the guy who packed it at Graeter's told me the dry ice was good for 48 hours total. read more

As far as quaint small-town ice cream shops go, the Mariemont Graeter's is, in my mind at least, just about ready to pop up in a Thomas Kinkade painting. Besides the fact that they make excellent ice cream and sorbet (along with an assortment of other confections and frozen treats), they are located in the cutest little town square across from a fountain with hedges and benches. I spent many a humid summer evening as a boy by that fountain enjoying their black raspberry chip ice cream as the fireflies danced in the trees. Graeter's also seems to make an effort to have special seasonal flavors, which is an extra special treat. Recently, I had a bowl of their summer special watermelon sorbet, which was enjoyable but tasted more like pink lemonade sorbet than watermelon. Also, the staff has always been congenial. And other useful information: they have a party room in the back if you want to have a birthday party or something there, and they don't have restrooms open to the public, as far as I recall. A great place for anything sweet. Staff are friendly and helpful. I like their seasonal flavors of ice cream as well, especially the coconut. The regular selection of icecream is lacking somewhat and those that have chips just really aren't that great. When they add the chocolate chips in, it does something to the chemistry of the icecream and takes something that was delcious and turns it into something mediocre. Case in point the coconut vs the coconut chip icecream. You would think they would be very similar, but they aren't. The one with chips tastes like chocolate icecream with coconut in it. The blueberry pie icecream is a regular (not seasonal) flavor and is out of this world. The other pastries and candies are okay. Difficult to find close, avaialble parking. read more

This Graeter's location is very convenient...right on Mariemont Square. The manager greeted me at the beginning of my visit like an old friend. He asked me how I was doing and how I had been. I was personally wowed by this amazing service. I picked up a coffee cake and some ice cream during my visit. FInally had to put that gift card to use to use that I got for my birthday back in July! When you step into this Graeter's it feels like you are stepping into 1960 (and I mean that in a good way!) However, I sure think this store deserves to be refreshed. It's an anchor on Mariemont Square, and I can't imagine that they would ever leave. With that in mind, it could use a bit of makeover similar to some of then newer Graeters. My favorite ice cream, especially chip flavors. The one in Mariemont doesnt have a restroom for some reason....also strange that it does not arrange to stay open after the theater. Tonight we made sure to arrive at 9:50 but the two workers were cleaning the floor and reminded us of their closing in ten minutes as soon as we walked in and again when we asked if we could still come in. Once it was clear they would be doing us a favor, we said we'd go to UDF and left. I was really surprised because the woman who is usually there always makes customers a priority. Love this Graeter's! It's a quintessential little ice cream shop in Mariemont. They always have water and a sample or two. They let you sample the ice creams until you can decide which of their flavors you want that day. It's a great place to walk around downtown Mariemont and the little shops and get some ice cream on a hot (or cold) day. The staff is very friendly. There is seating in the front and extra seating in the back. I will have to check next time, but I believe there is no bathroom? It's a bit expensive, but you're getting Graeter's! I must say that when I first came here I was undecided about Graeter's. However, two tastes later and I must say it has grown on me and I am a fan. I like the Buckeye ice cream and my boyfriend is a fan of their famous Black Raspberry Chip. The one thing I don't like about Graeter's in general is how big their chocolate chunks are in their ice cream. I will have to try a sundae at some point. Their combinations look so yummy! I will say their servings are generous! I appreciate that though since it is a bit pricier for ice cream. The worst Graeter's I've ever experienced in Ohio or Kentucky. Two of the woman on staff yelled at each other from the candy counter to the ice cream counter about the work they had done for the day, what still needed to be done, and what to get done the next day. It was so loud and continued for most of the 30 minutes we were there. Five of us gave up trying to have a conversation. They should have been mature enough to know better in their 50 or 60's. How can I objectively rate an ice cream shop that is such a part of my nostalgia for childhood summers? Um, I definitely can't, so take it with a grain of salt I guess. I do think one cannot argue with the contention that Graeter's ice cream is totally delicious, or that their Black Cherry and Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip are unparalleled. The store is also super cute... adorable bar by the window with seats where 5, 8, 13-year-old me sat and ate ice cream cones... They also have (or at least used to have!) ice cream drawing contests every summer, which is very charming. Sigh. read more
