Grady came out this week and did a great job. It was clean and quick. I didn't time it but I think the service took less than 2 hours. My chimney hadn't been cleaned in over 10 years. I felt the price was very reasonable to now have peace of mind. I told my mom afterwards and she said her close friends had a fire start in the walls from their fireplace. Grady also inspected the inside of my fireplace and showed me where the mortar between my fireplace and flu had come apart, and identified a crack and instructions on how to fix it. I called Grady, left a voicemail and he returned my call within the hour. We scheduled an appointment for a cleaning and inspection more than a week away. I hadn't heard from him until he showed up, on time, on the date we scheduled. Grady was very polite, super upbeat, and positive. He got straight to work, while engaging in small talk with my wife and I. As a grandfather, Grady was also super fun around my kids. After the cleaning and inspection he pointed out a few cracks and voids that needed to be filled with mortar and he told me how to do it and that it was a quick and easy fix. Grady called and was able to move our appointment to earlier in the day. Since I work from home, it was easy for me to change the time. Grady even went above and beyond what he was hired to do. Our place is small, so our cat's litter box is normally close to the fire place. 6 stars. Grady arrived on time. I've hired several chimney sweeps and all have been satisfactory -- they all tape off the fireplace, sweep the chimney from the roof, and vacuum up the stuff that falls down. Grady did all these, but went beyond the basics (and didn't charge anything over his standard fee). Grady patched the mortar in the ash cleanout, filled a minor crack in the back of the firebox, chiseled away some mortar which was preventing the flue from closing fully [for 50 years! -- another chimney sweep wanted to charge me $300 to replace the flue!). Grady also adjusted my wood holder's feet which had sagged from hot fires. I asked Grady for advice in fixing a decorative brick which had come disconnected from a wall and he gave me some materials and even gloves -- I fixed it while he finished his work. Beyond this, Grady was very concerned about leaving my house clean (he used tons of drop-clothes and took off his shoes every time he came into the house). He put everything back where it was, and I'm sure the house was cleaner when he left. Grady is very friendly, energetic and sincerely enjoys his work. read more
