Buenas Nachos is a casual feeling place but it's better than it seems though as it has good prices and portions on everything. Has the basic Mexican American stuff like burritos and tacos, the kind of things approved by kids. This is about as good as Mexican gets around here, so you better like it or get Taco Bell shit. Came at lunch and it wasn't busy. It's not that big of a place so it looks busier than it is. There's only a few tables. Also there's freshly made beverages. It has Horchata and Jamaica for about $2.50 in a big cup. The cup size is plenty. Order at the counter. We got some of the basic stuff. Good vegetarian choices. There's a few. Burritos are about $7, and I left off the cheese and sour cream. This one also comes with green peppers, onions, rice, and tomatoes. Big and filling. Vegetarian Tacos are pretty similar. It's $2.75 each. This has about the same filling so it's basically different on just outside. For sure it's not authentic. It's in a pretty busy strip mall so it's going for a broad audience so it means making it more palatable for all tastes. The food still is pretty good in spite of it and there's a lot for vegans and vegetarians.

She made us drinks and let's just say they didn't disappoint. She made me a whiskey Rita/sour. It was delicious just needed to be less sour for me. The presentation of all the food was beautiful. We had the shrimp quesadillas. It was packed with cheese. We shared the salmon and carne asada dinner. The steak was cooked just right. I asked for med well. It was tender, easy to chew. I had to add a little salt but most places don't cook with a lot of salt these days. The salmon came on top of guacamole and grilled papaya. The combo of everything was a hit. The salmon was cooked well done without being dry. The grilled papaya was delectable. My only ask is they put a little seasoning on the salmon. Eaten without everything it was mildly bland.

I recently visited Restaurant El Fuerte at 6949 Indianapolis Boulevard in Hammond, Indiana, on…read moreOctober 28, 2026, and noticed a concerning discrepancy between my restaurant receipt and the amount I was actually charged. My itemized receipt showed a total of $35.51, including taxes. However, when I paid using my Mastercard, the amount increased to $36.93. That's an additional $1.42, representing a 4% increase simply for using a credit card. Now, I understand that businesses incur credit card processing expenses. However, I question why customers should be responsible for absorbing those costs on top of the advertised prices. The restaurant does have a sign stating that items have both cash and non-cash prices, encouraging customers to "Pay by Cash and Save!" However, the sign does not clearly disclose the percentage difference between the two payment methods. What's particularly frustrating is that my restaurant receipt showed $35.51 as the total, while the separate credit card terminal receipt showed $36.93. Interestingly, the terminal receipt also listed a "Cash Discount" of $0.00. If the actual price for customers using a credit card is 4% higher, why isn't that amount clearly reflected on the original itemized bill before payment? I believe customers deserve straightforward, transparent pricing. A customer should know exactly what they're expected to pay before reaching the payment terminal, regardless of whether they're using cash or a credit card. My issue isn't the $1.42 itself. It's the principle. Small, undisclosed or poorly explained price differences can add up, and consumers shouldn't have to compare two separate receipts to understand what they were charged. I encourage Restaurant El Fuerte to improve its pricing transparency by clearly displaying both prices or the exact percentage difference and ensuring the itemized bill accurately reflects the amount customers will pay. Good business practices begin with honesty, transparency, and respect for the customer. I've attached photographs of the posted pricing notice and both receipts so others can see exactly what I'm referring to.

As of this moment, Taco Del Norte is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in the Kankakee area. There are…read moresome I haven't tried yet, but from the several I have tried, they have the best menu and best tasting food by far. My wife and I have been here a few times and I will say it is very off putting in appearance at first. It's on the corner of a strip mall, it is a bus stop for a few of the Mexican bus lines and the interior is a little outdated, but man the food makes up for it. We have both tried numerous things on the menu and we have liked everything we have had so far. It all has good flavor and spice. I don't recall either of us having anything bland. The serving sizes are huge, which I will never complain about, I usually like having leftovers. The prices are on average with the other restaurants in the area, but I feel like you get more. I am a Guacamole snob. I love it, but many places have it and some do not make it right. TDN does an excellent job with their guac. You also get a good amount for what you pay for, which can't be said for many other places. We have also never had an issue with the wait staff. They always seem to be on top of things and will come often to refill drinks and such. I have and will suggest Taco Del Norte to people who live in or are visiting the Kankakee area. It's only a few minutes directly south of I-57.
