Clarissa was my mom's nurse through the majority of her time with hospice. she was wonderful, she cared for my mom but also helped our family through each phase of the journey. my moms aide Monday through Friday every week was Darcise she was a gift from god. She had such a caring way about her. when we didn't think my mom could speak , she spoke small words only to Darsice. She would talk politics or metal music with him so he wasnt dwelling on the end. His social workers gave me updates on his progress and became like close friends in my time of need. We had a very disappointing experience with Grace Healthcare. Nurse Palak, assigned as my mother's primary nurse, only visited once during the entire week. She provided minimal guidance on hospice care and showed no empathy toward my mom. She was scheduled to visit on Thursday but never showed up -- and no other nurse came in her place. It wasn't until we called the main number around 4 PM, requesting help, that kind Nurse Sarah was dispatched and gave us advice on how to make our mom more comfortable. Sadly, our mom passed away that night. Only afterward did Nurse Palak text to say her child was sick and she had asked another nurse to come -- something we were never informed of, and no one arrived until we reached out ourselves. My husband was on home hospice for 4 months. In the beginning it was ok. At the end it was a nightmare. When we needed to have him admitted to a nursing home because I couldn't handle him anymore I had to wait over the worst weekend of my life with almost no support. My mom was put on hospice about a month ago. She lived in an assisted living facility and Grace Hospice was appointed for her care. What a big mistake! Thankfully my husband and I were able to visit my mom every day because we were able to witness the neglect first hand and advocate for her EVERY DAY ! NO ONE contacted me regarding her condition, I had to text or call for vitals! We had to actually write notes for caregivers because no one was made aware that her legs were swollen and needed to be elevated, that she had weeping edema and her legs needed to be wrapped, a fistula on her toe ( which I FOUND), feces on her wheelchair because her diaper wasn't changed enough, pain meds because her legs were hurting her, and the list goes on and on! During this extremely difficult time watching my mom wither away, we had additional stress managing her care, or lack of! I finally sent an email and miraculously a social worker and a supervisor nurse showed up (who promised daily updates which were never received) !! The reason for this review is that I wonder what happens to patients without family members who are squeaky wheels? Do they just wait to die without the care they deserve? Hospice promises "death with dignity", what a joke! Sitting in feces for hours, no pain meds until the nurse from the assisted living got involved and "tucked in" at 5:30-6:00 pm so that the aides could leave with my mom in her diaper until 9 am the next morning! How is that dignity??? read more

Would not recommend .... My mother in law battled cancer over the last few months from a rehab center. When she lost the ability to communicate her medication needs, we shared our concern about the PRN protocol with the nurse as she wasn't able to express her needs and we were told there wasn't much more that could be done. And when she passed, We never received a text or call with any form of condolences. I know this is an everyday occurrence for a nurse in this profession, but guess what - it's not for the families losing a loved one. A simple text would have gone a long way All this aside, I am giving 2 stars because Corey (forgive if I spelled incorrectly) went above and beyond with empathy and assistance in helping our family member find a facility. We just wish the nurse possessed the same level of empathy and commitment. read more

Uncle Robert Robert had dementia for years. He lived in Sunrise Senior. My wife Susan was his Guardian. About a month ago, he entered end stage dementia. The hospital in consensus recommended Robert for the added layer of elongated hospice. Enter Grace. FABULOUS. Timely, compassionate, thorough, dedicated. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Patty, the incomparable Chaplain Cynthia, now known as C Squared, amazing. We saw Robert 12 hours before he passed. I asked the bedside nurse if family coming in 2 days would make it. He said no, tomorrow would be best. 2 cousins packed up and made it about an hour before passing. Excellent insight. My wife Susan and I will be forever grateful and remember Grace for behaving the old fashion American way, competent, responsible, profsessional. read more

They were helpful in all stages of my father's hospice care, from the hospital to home transfer, the nursing and triage team during his passing, and even afterwards. Our nurse was professional, compassionate and provided the information and support needed for him to be comfortable. The triage team was highly responsive and available, even in the middle of the night. After my father's passing, a nurse from Grace called to express her condolences, to ask how I was doing, and if I needed anything. Recently, my mother was in need of hospice services. Having used Grace Healthcare to care for my Dad in his final months, I knew to turn to Grace once again. Christine, the nurse was just amazing. She made sure my Mom was comfortable and well taken care of. Communication with the Assisted Living staff was superb. Christine was an advocate so needed during Mom's final days. Christine stayed with Mom for hours during her final day and was present when Mom passed, making sure she was comfortable at all times and was there during any moments of distress. My mom was on hospice for over a year at the Chelsea now Mira Vie in Montville, NJ. During that time She was placed on Grace Hospice care she received not only excellent medical assistance, but spiritual support as well. Chaplain Tosha Brown visited with my mom upon occasion and prayed with her. This was extremely important to my mom who prior to being in assisted living attended church services daily. In addition, when our family needed spiritual guidance and support she was also there for us either in person or via phone. Last summer we thought we were going to lose mom and Chaplain Brown gave tremendous emotional support, mom made it through, but recently my mother did pass and Chaplin Brown was once again there to administer support, and prepare my mother for her time of death and entry into heaven. In essence through prayer and comfort she escorted her into the loving arms of The Lord. Those gathered around the room sensed a tremendous peace in this process. That is not where Chaplain Browns assistance stopped, she is still reaching out and providing comfort to our family and has offered her time, kindness and spiritual wisdom to us in bereavement support. I am extremely grateful to Grace Hospice for providing this service to the families. It is of the utmost importance and just one of the many excellent coordinated services provided by Grace to the patient and family. We are extremely grateful. read more

When my wife needed Hospice services, Grace Healthcare was recommended to us by the hospital. We made the mistake of going to CareOne in East Brunswick with the understanding that Grace Healthcare would oversee my wife's treatment in her final days. Big mistake. Not only was CareOne lax in their care, but it seemed as though Grace was no where when my wife needed additional care as well as pain medication. Contact with a Grace staff member was irregular; they seemed to leave everything up to CareOne. Over a week of care in my wife's final days, it was rare to see a Grace staff member. When my wife was in excruciating pain and I couldn't get CareOne to do anything but ignore my screaming wife, I called Grace Healthcare asking them to do something. I thought the focus of having hospice was to manage pain! That was not done when my wife needed pain relief the most. A grace nurse did arrive at CareOne about an hour or more after I called them. They increased the schedule for pain med, but that was all they did. No one really monitored my wife's pain to make sure that she was comfortable. Toward the end, my wife could not communicate her need for pain med or press the call button; all that she could do was scream which could be heard down the hallway which was ignored by staff. Both the facility and Grace failed my wife's needs miserably! My wife screamed in pain for hours which was totally the worst that one would want for a loved family member! read more

My brother was diagnosed with lung cancer that metastasized through his body, last year in July 2021. We took him to Sloan Kettering in New Jersey. He was 64 years old. It was shocking to the family since he went in for a routine chest x ray which had shown that his lungs were not well. For the next four months, his health declined. We were told his cancer had spread through his body and was incurable. It had spread from the lungs to the spine, neck, shoulder, hip, and leg. He had a tumor on his hip which was shot with radiation and a rod was put in his leg (the femur) since cancer had spread to the bones and he was having trouble walking. His condition worsened rapidly and in October we were told that we should engage hospice since the hospital could not do anything but prescribe medication. (Sloan Kettering diagnosed him and performed the leg/hip surgery which did help him walk for what little time he had left). They recommended we call Grace Services, that he would now need Hospice services. We hired Grace Healthcare Services in Edison, NJ, in October and our mom (who is 86 yrs old) wanted him treated at home for us to take care of him with their assistance. Grace was to monitor his medication to keep the pain in control. As time went on, he rapidly declined, losing over 60 lbs. They prescribed as many meds as they could to keep him comfortable which we were directed to administer at home. He was also schizophrenic, not always remembering that he had cancer so a lot of days he would continue to get up, get dressed, walk around, etc. He could not eat much and was under 100 lbs. in a few months. We never had experienced cancer in our family so this was all new to us and we had to learn really quickly because of the progression of cancer. We were five siblings, and we took turns staying with him and our mom so that they were never alone. Our major request from hospice was that they be there for us at the end because we were all very concerned about what would happen when he was dying. And because of the age of our mother, she was also a concern to us. She was devasted over the quickness of the spread of the disease and had trouble accepting what was happening. None of us had any medical experience and we had asked repeatedly what would happen when he was dying. WE WERE TOLD BY THE HEAD NURSE AND OTHERS THAT WE WOULD NOT BE ALONE AT THE END. WE WERE ALSO TOLD AS HIS CONDITION WORSENED, THEY WOULD VISIT MORE!! NOT SO! One day he became incoherent, frantic, and couldn't talk or eat and we called Hospice for help. He was in a lot of pain but could not speak! He was beginning the last phase of life. It was a Friday, November 19, 2021. Our head nurse told us that she could not come because she was across town and she would see what she could do. Her shift ended on Friday at 5pm and we never heard from her again until he passed away on Monday morning. She didn't know he had died but was checking in after the weekend. It is a fact that everyone assigned to the case/team gets notified of what is going on with the case. We continually called for help starting Friday and no one showed up until Sunday around noon. He had stopped drinking and eating and apparently could not swallow. By Saturday, the 20th he refused to take the medication because he could not swallow. He was in excruciating pain and we were at a complete loss as to what to do. We called and called Grace and they never sent anyone. A weekend nurse finally arrived on Sunday and she was very upset about the condition he was in. She started to give him heavy-duty meds which are administered at the end of life. She called it into Grace that he was "terminal". She stayed until about 5 pm and directed my brothers and sister how to give morphine, by syringe in his mouth, while he was unconscious! We were all horrified at this point because they left us on our own. My sister was crying because she was afraid to give him the medication while he was unconscious, as was I. My brothers took turns administering the medication around the clock and on Monday morning they administered his last dose. He passed around 7 am on Monday, November 22. It was heart-wrenching for the family. The entire process brought us together and our brother, Ralph (the patient), knew we were there and was happy that we were for the entire time. But the end result should have never happened as it did. When families contact and hire hospice, they think that these people are experts and they will help you, especially when your loved one is at the end of life. In fact, that was our main concern that they would come when he was dying. They did not! They even told my mom on the phone that they didn't have anyone that did that. HOSPICE ENCOURAGES DEATH AT HOME BECAUSE IF YOU TAKE THE PATIENT TO THE HOSPITAL TO DIE THEY NO LONGER CAN TREAT THAT PERSON. THEIR CONTRACT WOULD END. THE HOSPITAL WOULD TAKE OVER. I FEEL WHAT THEY DID WAS CRIMINAL. I AM SORRY I DIDN'T SEE THESE OTHER BAD REVIEWS BEFORE! read more

When we met with the woman who came to explain hospice to my family it sounded like just what we needed for my grandfather. Then nothing she said would happen, came true. It was so hard watching my family struggle through this time. The nurse that came to see us spent such a short time with us, she spoke so flat and never told when or if she would come back. We called for help in the middle of the night it took forever for them to get back to us. When they finally did, they said let the day nurse handle it. The woman who answered the phone was very mean to my Mom and she said she was a nurse. It was hard enough to go through this they made it far worse. They were pushed on us like we had no choice, we should have asked for another company. I would never say to use Grace again. read more

Grace Hospice was recommended to us by a family friend. I truly believed that my mom was going to be in great hands. We were promised that Mom would be taken care of like family. Unfortunately, this did not happen. The level of care was not what was promised. On several occasions, I would walk in the room and the aide would either be sleeping or on their phones. Then other times there would be no aide at all. To make matters worse, I called the nurse because I had questions and concerns. The nurse from Grace didn't even have the common decency to call me back. I would get a callback six hours later. This is not good service. I understand they are busy but my Mom is my concern. Overall, this was a terrible experience for my family and I. And, yes, I will be telling everyone NOT to use Grace. This is no way to treat a human being. Sorry, never again. read more

Although, this may sound trite, your organization's services was of a great comfort to my family. In particular, during her Rocky Balboa persistence not to be landed on the canvas during her final two weeks with us, I have not doubt that she was truly made to feel as comfortable as humanly possible. Many hospitals, nursing care facilities and hopsice organizations profess to extend to patients and their respective families a passionate level of care. However, having devoted the past year to my mother, day in and day out, the foregoing could not be further from the truth. Oftentimes, I witnessd my mother languishing at home under the care of other hopsice organizations augmented with private aides, and in major hopsitals and nursing care institutions - an acceptable level of responsiveness and attentiveness was simply not there. What was particularly upsetting was observing the aforementioned caregivers spring into action upon their sensing my presence. This mock form of proactiveness and compassion was a proverbial slap in my face - not to mention how my mother was victimized by such blatant neglect. I suspect that the children of the departed vascillate from time to time as to whether they could have done more for their parents. Well, having viewed my mother from an adjoining room in an assisted living facility where my mother was receiving Grace's hospice care, the unsuspecting nurses, social workers and aides were always tending to my mother's endless bounty of health and psychological issues. Watching nurses such as Laurie, Diane (I know were two nurses named Diane - well they were both godsends) and Jim (the latter broke the news of her passing to my family with such genuine level of sensitivity), and aides such as Aji Foon, who stroked her hair morning, noon and night, was so touching and a sheer relief. I would also be remiss, if i failed to mention how tolerant your organization was of my oftentimes volitatlie mood swings attributed to my confusion and frustration surrounding my mother's bouts of terminal restless for many months. Heather Sarker, RN/Case Manager, was the recipient of my verbal lashings and tirades. However, through it all, she never complained and with a loving sound her voice would invariably ask if there was anything she and/or the members of Grace do for me. And your office center always was there to receive a late night phone call to patch me through to a duty nurse in order to receive ongoing updates germane to my mother's condition. This would be a rather slipshod correspondence if I failed to mention the tireless efforts of Jean Maire Chang, Social Worker. She visited my father who was a patient in a major hospital during my mother's final weeks in order to comfort him. And, she performed the challenging task of breaking the news to him regarding her passing when he was later placed in a nursing home (my father as you know, suffers from a moderate form of Alzheimer's). And, although my family is not of a relgious persusaion, Chaplain Linda's presence and phone calls were as they say in the U.K., was spot on. Well, I was just informed by the medical team at my father's nursing facility that he is eligible to receive hopsice services. I recently lost my brother and called in hospice to make his transition as easy and comfortable as possible. This company was in no way a comfort to the family. We ran out of medicine, they did not administer his medicine through his port until two days before he passed even though we explain to them how terrible it was to put medicine down his throat when he could not swallow. My uncle resides in a nursing home and needed hospice service after hospitalization and his return to the nursing home. I received a call from the social worker at the nursing home informing me that his aide from Grace hadn't been to see him in over two weeks. The aide had an emergency but no one from Grace saw the need to send a substitute aide to assist my uncle. Not only that, but they never saw the need to inform me of the issue. This behavior on the part of Grace is totally unprofessional and unforgivable. I dismissed them the next day and arranged services from another hospice company. read more

Please pay attention to the 1 star reviews. As far as being personable, yes people come out and speak to you about how the hospice services will take place, but during the terminal and final stages where you really need someone there, you are on your own. The overnight nurse should be in a different field because he has become so faded that he forgets that his patients are human beings. During my uncles respiratory distress the night he passed, the night nurse came and said he is stable without even looking at him. He scolded at my 81 year old grandmother and spoke over my mother until she finally was able to convince him to just take a look. When he finally looked, he said yes, he needs help. He gave him morphine and said that another nurse will be here soon and left. Half hour later the distress worsened and my uncle began to die in front of our eyes. We called the night nurse, no answer. We called our contact, no answer. We called all the numbers we had from Grace... no one answered. When we finally got in touch with someone was hours after he has been dead already, and we had to wait for them to come to ID that he is dead because that is part of the arrangement with Grace, you can't call an ambulance. So we waited for 3 hours after he has passed for someone to come and see that he is dead. I hate to spread negativity, but truthfully, this is absolutely disgusting. Burnout may exist in any field of work, and working in hospice can become depressing and difficult for the employees - it is a very tough job! But when you forget that these people are uncles, brothers, fathers, sons, humans! And not just patients, then your behaviors negatively affect the world around you; and that's why, this review is for you. Here is my mothers review which was moved to the "not recommended" section. Apparently the massage therapist is a great person. See below: We used Grace Hospice services for my brother who had ALS. Terrible company! Stay away!!!!! We have yet to see a less caring, less compassionate, and less professional group of people ! When calling in medications, it took several days to receive them. When my brother was almost gone, Mike came over, as he was the nurse on call, he spoke to us in the kitchen, telling us my brother is stable, and does not need a nurse by his side, without actually going to check on him!!! Only after yelling at him, did he actually go to check the vitals. He give him Morphine and left us with dying person...My brother passed within the hour, and there was no one from Grace present. It took us multiple attempts to reach Grace after Mike left (it was Christmas eve, but they should be working 24X7). Even after my brother passed, we did not get ANY correspondence from them with condolences!!!! Just never heard from them at all!!!! Shame on you Grace!!! read more

My experience with Grace Hospice at such a tender time of life was beyond awful. Our assigned contact at Grace wasn't available to assist us during my Moms breathing crisis and laughed to try to lighten things up! My mother died several hours later and that was the response from our assigned Grace worker! We finally had real nurses for my Moms last 36 hours of life! If I could do it over I would NOT go with Grace!! There are so many hospice organization alternatives! I'll never forget the horror! read more

We used Grace's services in conjunction with nursing at The Gardens of Monroe. While we were happy with the initial attention and care we received through Debbie and the nursing team, we were put off by the fact that both the nurse and social worker who admitted our loved one went on vacation the day after admittance, which immediately meant a lack of consistency. We also found that because our loved one was admitted on a Thursday afternoon, he received some attention on Friday, but then his pain was not managed at all over the weekend. We, as the family, had to advocate both with Grace and The Gardens to get him the pain medicine he needed, because there were times when he was wailing in pain. This was caused by a lack of communication between Grace and The Gardens, and was completely unacceptable - hospice is supposed to be all about managing pain and ensuring that a loved one can die in comfort, and that was not the experience we had for many of the days our loved one was under the care of Grace. read more

I was lucky enough to have them for a dear family member. Without them, I would not have gotten through the very tough process of caring for my loved one. My dad was in hospice at an independent living facility and the Grace team (nurses and aides) couldn't have been more professional, kinder or helpful. The nurses taught us how to give him his meds, and they were on call 24/7 for any questions or problems. Phone calls were answered immediately. My dad couldn't have been better taken care of the last week of his life and we are so grateful for Sasha and the entire Grace team for their amazing help and support!! We used grace for my dads last day. First the nurse who came to the house when my dad got home wanted to give him the morphine right away. First of all my dads mind was 100% on target. My sisters and I said really? No suffering at this point. Actually he was with it. That's number 1. Number 2 they did not have the right supplies at the house, which later caused him to pass. They had a very nice male nurse but did not know what he was doing. My dad had a heart condition and had not gotten out of bed for two weeks while he was in the hospital. So he should of not been moved or very little movement. Before my dad passed he had to take a bowel movement and was very uncomfortable. No bed pan for my dad was ever given to us. Earlier that evening we ran to the drug store to buy one. Not the right size. My dad wanted to go the bathroom and because the bed pan was too small we had a commode at the house he yelled at my sister to go get. First of all the nurse on duty should of know he was not to get out of bed and second they should of had the right bed pan so my dad was comfortable. My sister and this nurse lifted him up which the nurse should of never let happen on the commode which was such a strain for my dad that it pretty much killed him. Than my sister had to remove the excess bm from my dad with our own gloves. After this is when my dad started his passing and raspy breathing. The nurse asked us how much morphine to give my dad. He did not know what to give him. We did, thank god, and my dad passed within minutes. None of this should of happened like it did. My dad should of had a comfortable transition. The nurse also did not know what to do with the left over morphine. That was a totally another story and nightmare. I did send the owner Jill Levine an email and am sorry to say that I did not get any satisfaction from her response. Do not use this company if you want a comfortable transition. read more
