I just left The Salad Bar after enjoying a refreshing salad for lunch. We were deciding between…read moreChopped and The Salad Bar, but chose The Salad Bar because our experiences at Chopped haven't been the best. The few times we've been there, we felt like we were inconveniencing the staff whenever we asked questions. There was little to no eye contact, and the customer service just wasn't welcoming. The experience at The Salad Bar was the complete opposite. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were immediately asked if we had any questions. That simple gesture made a great first impression. Eye contact is important to me. It feels like, as a society, we've lost some of those basic courtesies that make people feel seen and valued. The staff at The Salad Bar absolutely delivered in that regard. I also appreciate businesses that pay attention to the little things. Cleanliness should always be expected, but unfortunately, that's not always the case. The restaurant was spotless, and I was pleasantly surprised to find USB charging outlets at the tables--a thoughtful touch that definitely didn't go unnoticed. Great food, friendly service, and attention to detail make for a wonderful dining experience. We'll definitely be back!

I am obsessed with their build be up butternut salad!! I get it with chicken for added protein. It has roasted Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, craisins, pepitos, and quinoa. I've gotten it twice now!! The restaurant is clean, staff is friendly and service is quick!

I'm not often surprised by a restaurant, but the Avenue surprised me. I have driven by the Avenue…read morein Berlin numerous times, and I've noticed they have a 4 Star Yelp rating. I've been under the impression that Avenue was likely a casual pizza and grinder takeout spot and that parking might be difficult. As I discovered this week, Avenue is much more than that, and there is ample parking behind the restaurant. I entered from the back into a small open area with a nicely decorated Christmas tree, and a cool wide painting of a street from decades ago. I wasn't prepared for the Avenue to be as comfortable and almost lodge-like as it is. Wood Floors. The walls are a mix of light colored wood and red brick. The seats and tables are dark. There's a fireplace with fresh cut wood stacked up in cubbies on each side. The Avenue is a very pleasant place to spend some time. And they clearly had a number of loyal regulars there during my lunch. The Avenue has a robust pizza and grinder menu, but they also have Italian entrees like chickens Parm, Marsala, Franchaise. Etc. They have pasta. I noticed a scallops special. Given the menu, ambience and service, it's safe to say that Avenue can cover most of your Italian restaurant needs. I was impressed by the Italian Combo grinder I ordered. It didn't look like the giant grinders we're accustomed to seeing in CT, but it was reasonably-sized and very good. The bread was fresh and good crusty. I added cherry peppers to the Italian cold cuts, veggies, cheese and mayo. The ingredients, flavors and textures were in perfect balance. I'll be back to test drive more of the menu. 4.5 Stars

Parishes is a small Jamaican eatery in a business plaza near the Berlin movie theater. You'd expect…read moresome of what they serve. Beef Patties. Rasta Pasta. But they also serve some familiar things in different ways. For instance, the jerk chicken and shrimp wraps. They also offer rice bowls with your choice of proteins. The rice pics I saw looked like white rice, rather than the rice and peas I generally see at Jamaican restaurants. I always order a beef patty when I try a new Jamaican place. Parishes' had very good flavor and good texture. I also ordered a jerk chicken wrap. The chicken was cut into small bite size pieces and served in a thin wrap with shredded lettuce, tomato, onions, peppers cheese and dressing. The wrap worked fairly well as a whole, but it could have been served by any number of types of restaurants. Meaning, that I didn't really pick up much of Jerk or Jamaican flavor as it was served. Maybe because there was a good bit of lettuce and I'm usually eating jerk chicken off the bone. You could have told me it was a chicken Caesar Wrap and I would have believed it. Again, it was good. Just not quite what I expected. The eatery was cool, well decorated and had a friendly vibe. A few regulars came and went while I was there and the crew had a good rapport with them. I would definitely go back to try the Rasta Pasta or something like that. If you're in the area, Parishes is well worth checking out. Four Stars

I ordered from Parishes The Artisan Bite through Uber Eats and was excited to try their jerk…read morechicken wrap. It arrived warm, neatly packaged, and on time, which I appreciated. The wrap itself, however, fell a little flat for me--the flavors were milder than I expected, and I was hoping for more of that bold, spicy jerk kick. That said, the ingredients tasted fresh, and the portion size was generous. Looking at photos of the restaurant, the space has a stylish, artisan vibe that I'd love to experience in person. While this dish didn't wow me, I'm open to giving them another try in-house--sometimes ambiance and fresh-off-the-grill food make all the difference.
