There are four Govinda's in Dublin - Aungier St, Merrion Row and Middle Abbey St. All are vegetarian and all are delicious. It's mostly Indian and European flavours they use and the food is so tasty. During the summer months they use their own homegrown vegetables as much as possible - which I think is pretty impressive. Except foods like flavoured potatoes, samosa, bean stews etc. Now I am a major meat eater - to me, a meal is not complete without a big hunk of meat. So when I first experienced Govinda's I was really surprised how much I enjoyed it and how satisfied I was after the meal. The location in Aungier St is a little small, and always has quite a few customers. it's known around Dublin as having a great reputation and it always gets great reviews. They also have a Kirtan centre - somewhere where everyone is welcome regardless of age, sex, colour or religion. It focuses on Eastern Philosophy, Spirituality, Meditation and Yoga.

The meal is very large for me. Beet and apple salad is very nice and the brown rice and other sides are pretty good with the price. Only it will be better if the mix veggie did not cooked so long. I will make my next visit if happened to be around.

This is probably my most favourite place to eat in Dublin, not necessarily this particular branch but Govinda's in general. The food is all vegan or vegetarian and it is super delicious and really cheap, too. You get what they call a 'small' plate for €7.45 and they pile it high with whatever dishes they have cooked that day. They do a yummy paneer dish in a gorgeous tomato sauce and today they had a shepherd's pie, which was so filling. This is the best veggie food in Dublin.

Small plate of spinach bake, tofu in tomato sauce, veg, salad (€5.75) and a mango lassi for good measure

I ordered the small plate, which they stack high with all of the dishes of the day for about €7.

The children's chicken meals were served by the company uncooked (actually raw). This caused great stress for the parents at our event and we had to follow up for the next few days to make sure none of the children were sick. Sophie blamed the serving girls provided by her (Apetite catering) despite the fact they had followed her instructions. No labelling or prior notification was given that the chicken was raw and needed to be cooked. The instructions given were that the chicken had already been pre-cooked and required heating only. Having raw chicken mixed with other cooked food was really disgraceful. As for the rest of the food it was just average. Food was tepid & salad soggy. This company is unprofessional and we would not recommend them at all. They ruined our event.

The food was really good. I had the granola and my friend had the French toast. Would recommend either. The coffee and tea were also good. Overall, just a really nice place. They say it's the little things... and with me it certainly is! When I first discovered Nolan's…read moreFamily Supermarket in Clontarf I was swept off my feet. You can ask my friends - some of them were lucky enough to be dragged there to witness the greatness that is Nolan's (and I'm not kidding). For many months I stupidly did all my grocery shopping at Super Valu (an oxymoron if I ever heard one), but since chancing upon Nolan's I haven't looked back. This is a family-run supermarket in the posho area of Clontarf. There is one great thing about supermarket shopping in a posh neighbourhood - there is always a plentiful supply of gourmet food. Being quite the foodie myself, I have always been well impressed with Nolan's variety. Just a couple of examples for you... they sell lychee juice here! And mango and papaya and guava.... lychee is hands-down the best though... Their cheese section is extensive and impressive, and not too dearly-priced. They also serve a range of proscuitto, parma ham and salami, which makes Nolan's an ideal stop-off before a picnic on the Clontarf Promenade. The off-licence sells my absolute favourite new Zealand white - the Villa Maria - believe me, this is a lovely drop (as my grandfather would say). They often have this wine on special, and I saw it today for 11 euro (that is cheaper than it sells for in the Pacific, so that's saying something...) Nolan's are currently engaged in 'Store Wars' - check out the pic - logo just like Star Wars (my little brother would be impressed!) Store Wars is Nolan's promise that they will keep their prices equal to or lower than the likes of Tesco and Super Valu so people will patronise thier local independent family grocer over the mean and nasty chain superstores. I have always enjoyed my Nolan's shopping experience, and while the lighting and ambience aren't the best (but hey, it's a supermarket, not an art gallery), at the end of the day it feels good to be contributing (however minimally) to the decline of the Tesco giants. And just a quick piece of advice - you have to get your fruit and veg weighed and priced in the fruit section. If you take it straight to the checkout the checkout chick will have to go off and do it for you (a mistake you won't make twice!!)

Its also the nearest shop to me so therefore its my local supermarket. I would advise anybody who is out in Clontarf to check out Nolans and the Store Wars has certainly meant its great value when it would have had a reputation before as a pricey supermarket. Highly recommended.
