The children's chicken meals were served by the company uncooked (actually raw). This caused great stress for the parents at our event and we had to follow up for the next few days to make sure none of the children were sick. Sophie blamed the serving girls provided by her (Apetite catering) despite the fact they had followed her instructions. No labelling or prior notification was given that the chicken was raw and needed to be cooked. The instructions given were that the chicken had already been pre-cooked and required heating only. Having raw chicken mixed with other cooked food was really disgraceful. As for the rest of the food it was just average. Food was tepid & salad soggy. This company is unprofessional and we would not recommend them at all. They ruined our event.

The food was really good. I had the granola and my friend had the French toast. Would recommend either. The coffee and tea were also good. Overall, just a really nice place. neighborhood spot for breakfast & lunch. cute neighborhood near Dublin City U campus and Croke…read morePark. short breakfast menu with some pastry selections. wife chose a croissant to begin and i picked a scone with butter/jam/whipped cream. the scone was listed as served warm and came barely above room temp. it was also quite dry and crumbled when touched by a knife. but the addition of jam and cream made the pieces pretty tasty. the croissant was significantly better, flaky and fresh. with jam even better. the house organic granola my wife chose was declared pretty bland even with the berries, mint, and yogurt added. a drizzle of honey did a lot to improve the taste. my choice of eggs benedict was intriguing as it was listed as using Parma Ham-a type of prosciutto-instead of a more traditional ham. unfortunately the execution didn't meet expectations. the ham, instead of being sliced and soft, was similar to a chipped beef, crisp and in little chunks. it was piled on one side of the bread without egg or hollandaise. the egg was perched on the other side, nicely poached but covered in the blandest hollandaise i've ever tasted. a good dash of pepper helped but between the meat and the sauce it wasn't a good choice. also the "muffin" it was served on was really dry. our service, while attentive, was made a bit difficult by a communication barrier with the server who i believe did not have English as their first language. she was trying very hard though. maybe another day and another meal-lunch or brunch-would be different but on this day we left disappointed.

They say it's the little things... and with me it certainly is! When I first discovered Nolan's…read moreFamily Supermarket in Clontarf I was swept off my feet. You can ask my friends - some of them were lucky enough to be dragged there to witness the greatness that is Nolan's (and I'm not kidding). For many months I stupidly did all my grocery shopping at Super Valu (an oxymoron if I ever heard one), but since chancing upon Nolan's I haven't looked back. This is a family-run supermarket in the posho area of Clontarf. There is one great thing about supermarket shopping in a posh neighbourhood - there is always a plentiful supply of gourmet food. Being quite the foodie myself, I have always been well impressed with Nolan's variety. Just a couple of examples for you... they sell lychee juice here! And mango and papaya and guava.... lychee is hands-down the best though... Their cheese section is extensive and impressive, and not too dearly-priced. They also serve a range of proscuitto, parma ham and salami, which makes Nolan's an ideal stop-off before a picnic on the Clontarf Promenade. The off-licence sells my absolute favourite new Zealand white - the Villa Maria - believe me, this is a lovely drop (as my grandfather would say). They often have this wine on special, and I saw it today for 11 euro (that is cheaper than it sells for in the Pacific, so that's saying something...) Nolan's are currently engaged in 'Store Wars' - check out the pic - logo just like Star Wars (my little brother would be impressed!) Store Wars is Nolan's promise that they will keep their prices equal to or lower than the likes of Tesco and Super Valu so people will patronise thier local independent family grocer over the mean and nasty chain superstores. I have always enjoyed my Nolan's shopping experience, and while the lighting and ambience aren't the best (but hey, it's a supermarket, not an art gallery), at the end of the day it feels good to be contributing (however minimally) to the decline of the Tesco giants. And just a quick piece of advice - you have to get your fruit and veg weighed and priced in the fruit section. If you take it straight to the checkout the checkout chick will have to go off and do it for you (a mistake you won't make twice!!)

Its also the nearest shop to me so therefore its my local supermarket. I would advise anybody who is out in Clontarf to check out Nolans and the Store Wars has certainly meant its great value when it would have had a reputation before as a pricey supermarket. Highly recommended.

I ordered the small plate, which they stack high with all of the dishes of the day for about €7. Unless you are positively famished, I'd stick to the small plate - I can't even imagine what the large looks like. The food was delicious, filling, and fresh. The people there are absolutely lovely. Although it had been our first time in the restaurant, the lady working was very amiable and it seemed as though she knew a lot of the other customers by name. It really gave the sense of being a small, family-owned restaurant in a big city like Dublin. Although the decor is plain and nothing noteworthy, it doesn't subtract from the overall ambiance of the place. You should definitely stop by if you want a cheap, quick, and filling meal and I would go out of my way to come here again!
