A glimpse at the wine menu and the animal cracker menu

Awesome wine tasting experience and I don't even normally drink wine. They had a selection of 22 wines and yes you can try them all if you want. From white to rose to red. It was such a great deal as it was $10 for a tasting and if you buy a bottle then it compensates for 2 tastings as well. Gary and Sue (owners - couple) were super friendly and knowledgeable and it was such a chill and casual environment to learn and drink wine. And they provided animal crackers as a snack as well which was very helpful as a snack to help keep sipping the wine. 100% recommend as a fun experience with or without friends/other people.

This is an unpretentous, cozy wine tasting room with a wide variety of wines you won't find at bigger wineries. They let you try everything they have in stock. We left with a nice variety of bottles for the year.

Walk the Wine Since we were visiting Murphys, affectionately referred to as "California's other wine country," we figured we should do a wine tasting. We're not winos by any stretch of the imagination, but as they say, when in Rome... After a cursory search of the Yelps, we decided on Gossamer Wines--mostly because it was one of the few that were still open--but the five-star average didn't hurt either. :) The Good: *Unlimited wine tasting for $10/ea *Wine tasting was free (for up-to two people) with the purchase of a bottle. *Bottles are very reasonably priced from the $20-30/ea range, with most falling in the $25 category. *Gossamer deals with mostly unique vintages of wine that one would be hard-pressed to find anywhere. *Sue was delightful and kept the pours coming. *hic* *I'm not sure what one other reviewer was mentioning, but prices are very clearly marked for both the tasting and wines themselves. The Meh: *Not the largest space, as there's probably only about seating for 8-10 and that might be pushing it. The Ugly: *They keep it a bit warm in there, especially on a hot summer day. I'm not sure if it's for the wine's sake, or they just like it warm? TLDR: Great place to taste unique wines and get to see what Murphys is all about.

Sue, the proprietor and wine maker's wife was so kind and accommodating. We tasted the full portfolio of reds ($10 tasting) and bought a half case of delicious and reasonably priced bottles. Sue was knowledgable but not pretentious. And she was warm and welcoming, not just to my husband and me, but our 4 and 6 year old boys too. She had coloring books and asked them what music they would like to listen to. The sweetest! Gossamer Cellars is a must stop spot in Murphys!!

I have never been to this town before and there are tons of testing rooms. It's a little overwhelming and you don't know where to start. So you pull up yelp and look at the ones with great reviews. This was one of them so it was my first stop. I tried several reds and the sparkling. There was not a single one that I would have chosen to have a glass of. They had hardly any flavor and almost taste and watered down. They were bland and boring. Surprised they were out of so many. I didn't really see an option to do a flight, they just let you try what you want. I had four very very small pores which was $10. There was no advertising or pricing anywhere that I could see how much that was gonna cost. Kind of odd. The best part was the animal crackers and the "tasting menu " Was hilarious. The owners were nice enough but it was not my cup of tea. I would not return for the wine

My fiance and I stopped in here lured by their unique varietal list and stellar reviews, and I'm so glad we did! Tasty, unique wines along with pleasant conversation made for a lovely way to spend an hour. We stopped in right as the shop was opening, and Sue took care if us while Gary continued getting set up for the day, chiming in occasionally. They began as grape growers, and transitioned to winemaking about 20 years ago because it seemed like more fun. It was great hearing about some of the unique fermentation processes they use, and their history with the various grapes. Gary has a big poster of grape varietals on the wall, and he wants to make a wine with every one of them. That spirit of adventure makes this a great stop. On top of all that, the wine is incredibly affordable. Highly recommend a stop! read more

I can 100% understand why this tasting room has a 5 star review. My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Sue the owner who was so generous in offering a large variety of tastings. We had the pleasure of meeting a mother and daughter from Santa Rosa who was also visiting Murphy's at the same time we were and it was such an enjoyable experience. The atmosphere and conversation was so enjoyable and the wines where amazing. We decided on a 2018 Etoilee Suzanne sparking wine. However any of the wines Gossamer offers I would highly recommend. If your in Murphy's this is a must stop on your wine tasting list. read more

Owned by a couple. The guy makes all of the wine himself, which I think is pretty cool and it means the wine here is completely unique. The woman, I forget her name, but she refers to herself as the cellar rat, was very sweet and patient. Tasting fee is only $5 and is waived if you purchase a bottle of wine. You can sample pretty much anything they have. Very lovely woman and although the place is small, definitely worth a visit. read more

This was a fabulous place to stop and taste! Gary focuses on less known varietals with great success! All the wines were great, but I particularly liked the Grenache Blanc. Loved our visit with Gary and Sue during the Grape Stomp. Still the friendliest tasting room in Gold Country. All other wineries could learn from them, this is how a tasting room should be run. You are invited to sit down and enjoy thier fabulous wine and better conversation. A truly unique experience in today's winery business. 10 tastings for $5. They aren't padding the bottom line with tasting fees like others. They genuinely want you to explore the wine and have fun. Did I mention how good the wine is? We bought multiple bottles of 6 different varietals. Sorry everybody, we bought the last 2017 Isabella. Drank it that night with our friends that made the trip with us. Every since discovering Gossamer 3 years ago, it is the highlight of my annual trip to Murphys. Do yourself a favor, stop in and say "Hi" to them and make some new friends. I did! read more

Absolutely loved this place! It was our first stop in Murphy's and all paled in comparison afterwards. Gary, the owner, was welcoming even though he already had 6 people at the bar. He was entertaining, interested in us, and very generous with his pours (many more than listed!!) It probably didn't hurt that the group we joined were young and fun! LOL Tasting was $5 but waived if you bought a bottle. We bought the 2013 Nebbiolo and it was just as good the next day when we drank it. Good wine, good time! read more

Hands down, the best tasting room in Murphys. The owners are the funniest/nicest people working on Main Street and their wine is incredible. A small boutique winery specializing in unique and "lesser known" varietals.

History

Established in 2015.

Starting out as a city kid that wanted to be a farmer my wife and I purchased property in Copperopolis and planted a vineyard. Quickly realizing that the winemakers we're having all the fun while I did all the work as a grower. We decided to start our own winery in 2005. That winery was started with multiple partners. After 10 years we decided to part ways and my wife and I started Gossamer Cellars. Rather than producing the same wines as most of the other tasting rooms in town we ventured off and decided to produce wines that were more adventurous and less common.

Meet the Business Owner: Gary G.

Began as a winegrape grower in 1999. Began making wine in 2005. Previously owned another winery in Calaveras County where I honed my skills as a winemaker.

As you drive up, you're greeted by gorgeous landscaping and flowers everywhere -- the setting alone makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. We did a wine tasting and really enjoyed the wines. The Sauvignon Blanc was especially good -- crisp, refreshing, and perfect for a warm day. The Pinot Noir was also a standout, smooth and easy to sip. You can tell they put care into their wines, and there was something for everyone in our group to like. The grounds are spacious and peaceful, with views, gardens, and plenty of spots to wander or sit and relax. It feels more like an experience than just a quick tasting stop. The woman helping us was a bit reserved, but still helpful as we made our selections. Overall, Ironstone is a lovely place to visit if you're in the area -- great wine, beautiful scenery, and a relaxing atmosphere that makes for a memorable outing.

The quality is good here better than most Murphys wineries and we have tasted quite a few however you will pay a premium they are bit pricey as well. They are located just outside of Main Street where most of the tasting rooms are located, so it is a perfect place to stop on your way in to town. The grounds are charming and filled with a garden and outdoor pavilion for wine club members. A perfect place to enjoy your wine flight on a lovely day! Upon stepping inside you feel a sense of calm not only for the cozy atmosphere but the lovely lavender fragrance from the lavender bundles. Kirsten the owner is a fantastic hostess. She is a wealth of knowledge about her family's winery and history in the farming industry. The wine list was presented to us and we were encouraged to relax and enjoy the experience. Don't mind if we do! We made our way to the tables within the barn and commented what a perfect place to gather with friends and family while enjoying some delicious wines! Our flights were brought to our table on the cutest little serving tray along with some tasty treats to enhance the experience. Every single wine was delicious! I'm not a fan of big jammy reds at all and none of the reds gave that taste. I'm obsessed with their rosé and Aspen white blend. The Sequoia red blend is also a favorite. We were so impressed with the quality and flavor of the wines as well as the entire tasting experience. If you are looking for a new wine tasting experience in Murphys I highly encourage you to give Locke Vineyards a try. Cheers!

This place is family owned and operated, and of course, everyone is extremely knowledgeable about their wine, where it comes from, and all that stuff. My friends and I got flights, so we could try a little bit of everything. Each new wine our waitress poured came with a back story and I loved it. All of the wine we tried was great and I can't remember exactly what they were, but my favorites were the white wines, I know that. While they don't have food, we were welcome to bring food from outside so we grabbed a few pizzas from down the street to munch on while we were there.
