Really nice, refreshing sushi place. Each bite is really carefully made and delightful. The service is very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed our experience greatly!

Interior is a little jank but don't be fooled. One of the best and freshest sushi places I've ever been to. They don't have a set menu or set prices so it was a little confusing, but we asked for the omakase experience and had the chef just choose the menu. Everything we had was amazing and ridiculously fresh. Some of the highlights were the scallop sushi with caviar, the butterfish with yuzu and lime zest and the otoro yellowtail. We also got a sake that was very good and perfectly paired with everything. Everything was so insanely fresh and tender and I think sushi spots will forever be ruined by my experience here. It's not remotely cheap, and the place is small and only takes reservations. Overall is definitely a splurge spot worth going to at least once in your life.

You don't expect Great sushi in the most random hole in the wall with liquor store fridges lined against the wall but it is THAT good! expect to pay a couple hundred per person and order off a hand written menu white board without prices. Biggest tip: make reservations - he will turn you away without reservations as he will only take enough people for him to manage serving (happened to be 4 people at lunch on a weekday)

As Japanese as this gets. Omakase only, orange painted walls, nothing but the low sounds of the radio playing "Genie in a Bottle" and a counter for only 8 people. Got's Mart is run by Chef Kawano and his wife and that's the way they like it. One thing that stood out to me from the different omakases was that the ingredients would be the same, but the fish type was different. It was such an interesting take on how different flavors of the fish can impact the overall taste, even though it may have the same toppings. This is not a place for ambience, but definitely a place to get some high-quality sushi. 20 pieces of sushi, 1 sashimi, 2 little dishes = $325 including tax and tip.

Have been wanting to check this hole in the wall sushi place out for a very long time, and finally had the chance to the other night. The restaurant itself is quite small, and a little run down, but has an intimate feel as part of an outdoor strip mall. Once inside, I immediately began to realize I was about to embark on a delicious sushi journey with my friends! We were greeted by the owner and his wife, who prepared and served us the most delightful omakase dishes with great pride. Absolutely loved the concept of not having to look at a menu, but rather have sushi and sashimi served one after the other at the chef's discretion. All the fish tasted very fresh and some were very pretty in presentation. If you're looking to have great quality sushi without having to sit down at a fancy, pretentious restaurant, Go's Mart is the perfect place! I can't wait to go there again someday.

My absolute favorite spot in the valley to grab sushi! Firstly, you must call to make a reservation. No walk-ins allowed. Go's Mart is a hidden gem located in a strip mall with a six-seater sushi counter where the chef prepares the most amazing nigiri, hands down. There are plenty of options to choose from, and I appreciate that he carries fish that most other sushi places do not have. Every piece is expertly cured, cut, and dressed in the best and most unique way possible. I've been here a number of times and have enjoyed various nigiri pieces, but a couple of standouts are: -Kawagishi toro: buttery, melts in your mouth -Seared swordfish: perfectly seared with great texture -Live sweet shrimp: great char, sweet, smoky with a hint of citrus -Japanese scallop: large piece that is simply dressed and topped with either caviar or gold -Hairy crab: slightly sweet and never fishy Don't ask for a California roll; he doesn't have the ingredients and never will. Only real crab, and he won't waste that in a roll. Service is top-notch, and I love supporting a small mom-and-pop sushi spot. In terms of ambiance, the restaurant itself definitely needs an update, but that personally doesn't bother me as I am here for the food. You honestly won't get sushi like this anywhere else. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're in the area!!

Been meaning to check this place out for years at the recommendation of multiple people saying it's the best sushi in LA. After experiencing it for myself this is now the bar by which I judge all omasake. If you're looking for a fancy dining experience this may not be for you but if you want a sushi adventure that focuses on the food and the conversation you gotta check this place out.

Amazing sushi, best that I've had in USA! Intimate setting, not many seats, which makes it even more unique. Grade A service & super high quality sushi.

Regarding Enrique's 1 star post: You say there was plenty of tables open and that you weren't allowed in... There is no tables at Go's Mart so that is a lie. There is 8 bar seats and when you walked in without a reservation you may have seen empty seats but they would have been already reserved with people arriving soon. It is the best Sushi you will ever have. I have met people who have gone on sushi tours at the highest end places in Japan who all say that Go's Mart is better than everywhere they went. While yes it is expensive, you get what you pay for and it is in fact the best sushi bar around!

    Do they serve alcohol?

Yes, they do! Beer, sake, enjoy👍🏼

    How much is the Omakase?

He will tell you that it is "your choice" and to order until you want to stop. What he doesn't tell you is any level of cost per piece that you receive. i.e.: one nigiri piece might be $8. The next, a little handroll that is $15. I wish it was more…

When do they reopen - think they're closed as of 11/12/22?

I believe on the 18th? Not 100% sure but remember seeing a sign that said it would be closed about a week!

I've tried calling making reservations this week since Saturday but no one picked up. Does anyone know if the restaurant is still open?

Yes it's still open... but I believe it would be closed for about a week... you may want to check back in Monday

    Do you take reservations?

    Yes they do

Is lunch open continously 12-5? which is less crowded? is there online menu for takeout?

The hours here on Yelp n if u Google the restaurant are wrong. Best if u call. Most days it's probably open for lunch from 12pm to 3pm with a small couple hour break until dinner, but again call as they prefer u to do a reservation anyway. It will…

Is there a to go menu available online?

It's all seasonal items. It changes constantly. When u arrive he has a giant board with what's available. U can also do omakase, which u let the chef pick for u. Asking the chef to do an omakase for u is not a bad thing either so don't be…

Do they have sake? Or can we bring our own?

They don't serve alcohol. Don't know if Sushi Chef if ok with bring your own

Can I do do Omakase at 8:00 PM and finish by 9:00PM?

Depends on how busy Go San is. Our last time there for lunch, the place filled up. The prior 2 times it was empty.

Can you bring your own bottle of wine?

Call.. Since they don't serve alcohol, maybe not.

How does it work here menu wise? I am somewhat adventurous but I don't like all kinds of sushi...how does one navigate the choices?

The menu is on a board behind the sushi bar with prices. This place is a bit different compared to other sushi restaurants as one order is one piece instead of two pieces. As for omakase, you choose when to stop then you get billed for the amount of…

We booked through OpenTable the night before and had no trouble getting a Friday-night reservation. Be aware that there is a $100/person cancellation fee. Parking was easy; we found street parking right outside, and the meters ended at 8 PM. We arrived early and were seated in the lounge while the 5 PM omakase seating finished. The restaurant itself is divided between the lounge and the main dining area. I started with a beer and was a little surprised by the limited selection. Even the Sapporo was bottled rather than draft. Later I ordered the five-pour sake pairing for $59. This is where some of the service issues started becoming noticeable. There wasn't much explanation of the sake pairing. I didn't know which pour I was on, what I was drinking, or why it had been selected for the food being served. The first pour was non-alcoholic. At one point when I asked where we were in the pairing, I was told I would receive six pours that evening, but ultimately I received five total. Maybe the intention was one non-alcoholic drink plus five sake pours, but I'm still not sure - and that illustrates the problem. My wife also had to keep following up on her drink request. Eventually one server brought it, and several minutes later another server arrived with the same drink, apparently unaware that she had already received it. We were seated directly beside the service station, which also made the meal feel hectic. Restaurants are obviously busy behind the scenes, but part of a special dining experience is that the guest shouldn't constantly feel that chaos. Several courses into the meal we noticed we haven't even been given a linen napkin. When I asked, they said they had run out of the regular linens and gave me a paper napkin instead. I've honestly never experienced that during a tasting menu before. The unfortunate part is that the actual food was very good. There are excellent ingredients here: high-quality fish, Hokkaido scallop, uni, A5 Miyazaki wagyu, fresh wasabi, caviar, etc. Many of the flavors were genuinely delicious, and the presentations were ambitious. But execution matters tremendously with omakase. My biggest issue was how the nigiri was served. Instead of the chef making each piece and serving it immediately to each individual, he assembled the entire nigiri progression and served all of the pieces at once. By the time the sushi reached us, the rice was already cold. The scallop hand roll had the same problem. It sat long enough that the nori was already soft rather than crisp. That may sound overly particular to someone who doesn't eat much omakase, but temperature and texture are fundamental parts of sushi. Warm or body-temperature shari paired with cool fish is completely different from eating nigiri that has been sitting on a plate. We could also see the chef and assistant working directly in front of us, and their coordination didn't feel particularly polished. There were forgotten components and audible corrections. At one point the chef struggled while plating the uni, it fell into another component, and that same piece was ultimately served to us after just witnessing that. There was another moment where the chef displayed a traditional sharkskin grater for fresh wasabi, but the chef openly joked that he was too lazy to grate it traditionally and used a normal grater instead. That wouldn't bother me by itself. What struck me was the disconnect. There seemed to be a lot of emphasis on showing diners the Japanese ingredients, specialty tools, premium fish, rice, wagyu, ginger, and wasabi (and how expensive things are). But the deeper elements of omakase - precision, timing, restraint, temperature, pacing, and quiet coordination - weren't operating at the same level. I've had several omakase experiences in Japan, so perhaps my reference point is different. I'm not expecting a $190 restaurant in Woodland Hills to recreate Ginza. But I don't think things like cold nigiri rice, soggy nori, confused beverage service, missing linen napkins, or disorganized pacing are unreasonable criticisms at this price. Here's my analogy for Aji Mori as a Formula 1 team. They have the budget and engineering to build a very fast car. The expensive components are there. But the driver and pit crew matter too. You can flaunt how impressive the car is, but if the pit stops and race execution aren't there, you aren't going to win. Aji Mori has the ingredients to become a good omakase. The flavors and product quality are already there. What it needs now is refinement in execution and service. I wouldn't rush back for the omakase in its current form, but I'd genuinely reconsider in the future if the execution improves.

Anyways, aside from that, this place is great. Even the lowest all-you-can-eat tier gives you a ton of options, and everything is color coded so you don't accidentally order from the wrong section. The staff is really helpful and actually knows what they're talking about, the service was great, and everything tasted fresh. I definitely got my money's worth here.

Service food and vibe have plummeted. EVERYONE JUST WATCHES TV :-/…read moreLast two times I went here (after dining here often for the past 2 years) things have really taken a bad turn. Second to last time the server dude was so distracted watching tv that service was so slow ! Mind you, this was a lunch shift! There were only two other tables in the restaurant. Yet my server never took any of the dirty dishes off the table and just watched tv forcing me to flag him down alertly every time I wanted to order. The last time I went was awful, the server was fine, a little dead inside, but honestly not idc bc I don't been big fake smiles or anything lol but they did what they needed to do and they were fine. The issue is with the kitchen. we ordered eel sushi extra-extra crispy and the round full faced shorter sushi dude did not make it crispy at all. So when the server brought it and asked us if it was crispy enough we politely asked if we could have it a bit more crispy (as we have gotten it so many times here before without having to send anything back ever) this was the first time in 2 years I had to ask this request. I've never sent anything back before. Everything usually comes out perfect which is why we would come back so often. We watched as the server took it to him as he copped a massive attitude, gave us a super dirty look, and after the server walked away, he left the sushi sitting there for 10 minutes!!!! while he ignored it and watched TV, clearly pissed and talking crap about us like he was so annoyed by this simple request and seemed to take it personally. Super bizarre and hateful. There was nothing but hatred in his face . Finally he takes the sushi after standing there watching tv for 10 minutes and the server brings it back another 10 minutes later BURNT to a CHARCOAL CRISP. Ummm, weaponized incompetence much?? The eel had a strange substance on it that we obviously did not trust even if the eel wasn't charcoal at that point we felt unsafe ordering anymore sushi given the extreme hateful energy coming from the sushi dude and his friends who thought we don't understand Spanish but we do and they were talking foul shihh about us it was unreal. Why would we keep ordering sushi when now we are sure they're doing something gross to it out of spite. All that over a request for a crispier eel is seriously wild, sadistic, sociopathic and suggests a very negative work culture which produces untrustworthy staff. Obviously they feel comfortable being so rude and vindictive bc that's the culture at this resistant apparently? Service has just been ok w the exception of the dude the other day who just watched tv the whole time. It's the restaurants vibe and the cooks bad attitudes that ruins this. Kitchen is just untrustworthy and we will obviously not come back seems that is what they were trying to achieve. And I'm bummed bc I loooved this place so much. Everything was always so perfect and felt like a high standard was being implemented. Rip Neo :(

This time we were able to get a table, and I'm glad we came back. The service was good overall. The staff was friendly, and while they could've been a little more attentive at times, it didn't take away from the experience. The food was delicious. I ordered a baked roll that was around $15, and while I really enjoyed it, I do wish it came with a few more pieces because five pieces felt a little light for the price. Flavor-wise, though, it was great. I also had the yellowtail roll, which I really enjoyed, and the hot sake was solid and reasonably priced. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, which gives it a cozy feel. Overall, it did exactly what we were looking for--a good, casual sushi date night with tasty food. I'd definitely come back and try more of the menu.

The disappointed part of me gave this place two stars…read more Clearly, this place has gone the way of so many places that were a great place to dine at one point, but then became a chain. And not a great chain... within a stone's throw is Joey and also Second & Saint and they expanded and are nice places so Katsuya should go take notes. The pro's: Lots of nice staff. Never had to look around for someone, food came out relatively quickly. The prices were not crazy... Salmon Tasting (4 pieces) was $19, Toro was $20 for two pieces. Small Asahi was $6 (beer was cold but coulda been colder). The con's: It's kind of tired... as a chain and as an individual restaurant. This is an OK spot for a high schooler to take a date. Katsuya used to be the "cool kid" in Studio City years ago, but now it feels like a tired chain My wife came out of the rest room and commented that the floor was impressively sticky (not drop of molasses sticky but like she could hear it loudly sticky... and this was 20 minutes after they opened so I'm guessing it's a permanent condition) There were 14 of us waiting for it to open at noon. At least three people wondered where the line ended and people that were familiar with the place said that "they kind of let every one in at the same time" ... but people who had arrived later were still inside before people that had arrived earlier. Not a big deal (unless the sushi bar counter fills up quickly) but so easily avoidable. I've been through this at other places and waiting to board an airplane, etc... I just want to relax in line and not constantly be micro-analyzing who is jockeying for position like it's the starting line in Pamplona. The sushi itself is so-so. Smallish pieces of toro on meh rice. The Salmon Tasting was four (smallish) pieces of assorted salmon and had decent flavors. We thought we would try this one because we already knew the Katsuya in Encino was meh but this is our last time to Katsuya.

Stopped in for a late lunch early dinner so it was a quiet hour. I just moved to the area and I am…read moredesperately trying to find my go tos and this will definitely be one of them! I had the vegetable tempura which was really good and the tempura was lightly battered and not over done. I am a little picky and this was sooo good, plus they give you multiple pieces of the squashes (sometimes at other places they give you all carrots or something ridiculous). I didn't order too much since it was a late lunch, but I got the spicy tuna handroll and it was so perfect and fresh with a good crunch, and the soft shell crab cut roll was also perfect. The iced green tea was really yummy too, nice dark color and really flavorful. Def added to one of my local spots and will be back! I'd also love to come back and try some of my other favorites like the fresh water eel.

My boyfriend and I came to Moon Sushi Bar over the weekend for the first time after seeing a little…read morevideo about doing a date night here and wanting sushi close by. We found Moon Sushi Bar and saw good reviews and so we decided to come and check it out. Upon entering, it was a bit of a rough start as it was pretty busy and borderline packed, and all in small restaurant. I don't know if the one waiter working never saw us because he was so busy, or what was happening because it took them five minutes just to acknowledge us and motion towards a table. Once we sat down, again, it took another five minutes just to get a menu. Right before we had gotten the menu, we had just debated leaving because it had been ten minutes and it seemed like maybe they had a full enough plate as it was. However, we're glad we stayed, though, because once we got our food, it was worth it! We ordered with the one guy who was taking orders and helping out most of the diners here. It did take a long time to get our food, which ended up biting us in the ass at the end when we wanted to order another roll, but had to wait, again, a long time just to receive it. At that point, too, most people had left, so we had expected it to come out maybe a tad bit faster, but it didn't. We ordered two specialty rolls and a normal basic roll. For how long it took, we should have gotten edamame and ordered them all at the beginning. Both of the specialty rolls were amazing and packed with flavor. One had a ponzu sauce, and another a yuzu lemon sauce, both of which my boyfriend and I love, so these were up our alley. The basic shrimp tempura roll was also really good, especially for being a more traditional and plain roll. None of it was too heavy, but after sharing three rolls, we were (unfortunately) full. We're looking forward to coming back to this sushi shop for our next sushi date night! They're so close by and have such great customer service and food. It was so nice and reassuring to see that a majority of people who came inside to eat, also knew the waiter and people working and were regulars. The waiter and guy who was taking care of us, who I could only assume to be the owner or manager, was saying thank you to each and every one of their customers and even giving some hugs! A group of guys came in and all cheered, laughed, and ended up also taking a shot of sake with the guy as well! Everyone who was working and eating all seemed so happy to be there. The ambiance and energy is unbeatable in such a friendly and positive environment.
