I've been seeing Dr Gopal for chronic sinusitis (for about 8-9 months). My issues are a combination of a deviated septum and nasal polyps. The net, we tried other treatments for months, but they had little impact. The course of action really needed to be corrective surgery. I was suffering a brutal sinus infection for two straight years and seeing one ENT after another who all put me on long courses of antibiotics that worked temporarily. I found Dr. gopal through a friend. He tried a few things so not to rush into surgery but in the end I had sinus surgery. That was 2002. It's been 20 years and knock on wood, I'm still fine. 5+ stars for Dr. Gopal's knowledge and experience in diagnosing a complicated deep sinus infection. As well as gentleness when exploring the depths of sinuses within your head. Not a pleasant thing to have done, but Dr. Gopal took extra care in easing this uncomfortable procedure. 5+ stars for recognizing the severity of this nasty infection and putting treatment on the fast track to surgery. Making sure that the surgery was indeed on the fast track, Dr. Gopal personally scheduled the surgery, rearranging patients and closely monitoring the sorry looking nasal passages for further signs of deterioration. (Other distinguished ENT physicians, with the exception of Dr. Vernik, who is Dr Gopal's partner,did not recognize the intensity of this infection and thus did not get any little yelp red stars). 5+ stars for excellent bedside manners, and for the ability to convey trust that patients need to see before counting backwards from 100 to 99. Knowing that your doctor has done this same surgery, hundreds of times, and has taught many other physicians, is reassuring. And when the surgery in only a thin bone away from your brain, you need to have trust. 5+ stars for a smooth surgery and as smooth as can be expected recovery, while zapping the daylights out of those nasty bacteria who set up home in little cranial cubby holes. Sinus surgery recovery can be rough, with packing, nasal breathing tubes, and trapped gunk. Dr. Gopal avoids nasal packing when possible. Most doctors we met still do packing, and thus, sadly, receive no little red stars. 5+ stars for an excellent office staff. This is a private practice and therefore, patients get the surprise of longer visits, less bureaucratic rules (where patients can easily get frustrated) and more personal treatment. The office personnel are helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable, thus earning themselves a 5+ star rating. 5+ stars for Dr. Gopal's and Dr. Vernick's ability to balance private practice and faculty responsibilities at Harvard Medical School, and giving patients a better option than busy clinics, no matter how prestigious. Have been miserable for 2 months with blocked right ear and constant post nasal drip that chokes me at night and constantly wakes me up. Found Dr. Gopal online..saw his great reviews and thought I should see him. He was very late. One hour until he saw me. I almost left. I should have! He scoped my nasal area to my throat. Told me about a deviated septum I have (I already knew I had one) then told me I have sinusitis? I told him I Googled my symptoms and it comes up as blocked Eustachian tubes. He said "Who's the Doctor here?". Really?? Wow what an ego this jerk has. He prescribed me Flonase, told me to sleep sitting up and then booked me 8 weeks out for a scan of my sinuses. 8 weeks???!!!! Wtf?? I have a constant tickle in my throat, its thick to swallow and the Flonase does nothing and I have an ear ache every other day. By his reviews, it seems like he does surgery on everyone! There has never been a more intelligent, professional, accommodating, and all around best of the best as Dr. Gopal. I have had major issues for over 10 years and because of Dr. go Paul I finally am healed! I needed two major sinus surgeries and there was nobody that I would ever trust more. He did absolutely everything he could before ever recommending surgery. Dr. Gopal, Cathy, Sylvia, and the entire team that represents him could not be better! Negative stars if possible. WHATEVER YOU DO. DO NOT SEE GOPAL HARSHA. Unless you would like to be discriminated, hurt, and disrespected, AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. My grandfather just had an appointment today with Harsha V. Gopal because David M. Vernick was not available due to being on vacation. NOTE: We were NOT informed of Vernick being on vacation, despite us making this appointment 3 MONTHS AGO. During our time at the office, we were treated with extreme disrespect and did not feel welcome by any means. Harsha V. Gopal not only yelled at my mother (who had brought my grandfather in for treatment) but to my grandfather as well, stating that he(Gopal) was essentially going out of his way to see my grandfather and that if we were to come back, to find someone else and not him. We were okay to have my grandfather see Vernick's assistant, but if we had known this is how we would be treated we would not have agreed. During the procedure, Gopal roughly handled my 90 year old grandfather, yelling at him to stay still and if he would not stay still he would not continue the procedure with us. The procedure hurt my grandfather so badly that he could not help but to move due to extreme pain and he mentioned to my mother he was trying his best to stay still. When my mother mentioned this to Gopal, he loudly exclaimed and yelled that he was not hurting my grandfather and "wasn't even touching him", and continued to yell that if my grandfather continued to move, he would stop cleaning my grandfather's ear altogether. My grandfather could not last through more than half of the cleaning, as the pain was too much. When told to stop MULTIPLE times, GOPAL CONTINUED WITH THE CLEANING. As my mother and grandfather left, Gopal told them that "the next time you come in for an appointment, DON'T SEE ME." He also stated that he "did not want to see us", but only did so because another doctor was not there. I don't know what doctor thinks he has the right to ever treat a patient like this, no matter how the circumstances are. This man needs his license taken away. read more

I've been under Dr Gopal's care for 20 plus years, including having two sinus surgeries with him, most recent being a couple of months ago. He is quite simply my favorite all time doctor. In addition to REALLY knowing the ENT space, he is an expert in reflux as well. He is known as an amazing surgeon and doctor, but he is also an amazing guy. I feel like he really gets to know his patience at a personal level. Although there is a wait at times to see him, he never rushes you. In fact, he spends more time with me than any other doctor I've ever had, and I feel he has gotten to know me at a deeper level than even my primary care doctor. Don't believe Dr. Harsha Gopal's 'expert' opinions. My nose was damaged in a car accident. I visited Dr. Gopal, who is an ENT surgeon, to fix my deviated septum. He ordered a CT Scan and during my second visit he told me that in addition to my deviated septum my sinuses on left and right sides were clogged at 90% and 95% and I needed surgeries on both sides. He also prescribed strong antibiotics for three weeks and said if I don't take the antibiotics my insurance company will not allow the surgery. I got a copy of my CT Scan CD and showed it to my nephew who is an experienced radiologist. He reviewed the images and confirmed the deviated septum, however, he said my sinuses were all clear!!! I didn't need any sinus surgery that Dr. Gopal recommended, and I didn't need to take the antibiotics. To make sure, I saw two other ENT surgeons and they both confirmed that my sinuses were clear!!! I am going ahead for my deviated septum surgery with the last doctor. It is really upsetting that Dr. Gopal recommended an unnecessary sinus surgery, that could have caused complications for me, to make more money. Please be careful with his 'expert' opinions. read more

I've been a patient of Dr Gopal for the past 4 years. He's one of the best ent doctors I've been to. Dr Gopal is great at explaining everything from your test results to to surgery options. Some people may misinterpret his quick responses,for being impatient, but because of his vast knowledge , he responds immediately to your questions. I went to see Dr. Gopal because of a chronic cough. He diagnosed it as bony obstuctions in my maxillary sinuses called Haller Cells. Who knew? The in office procedure to resolve it sounded unpleasant enough that I put it off as long as I could but when I finally decided to go ahead, it was a piece of cake! He numbed me up thoroughly so that I felt absolutely nothing and my post op experience was also positive. Dr. Gopal simply encapsulates what a doctor should be in a total package from beginning to end. Simply perfection. I have been going to BIDMC for well over 11 years, have met with well over 30 doctors, from heart specialists to neurologists and everything in between as mentioned above. I imagine in all the time they have not been able to successfully stop my seizures, I am sure 'googling' it would have ended my problems years ago. SERIOUSLY?!?! Who even thinks to google and make their own diagnosis. You certainly can't fix stupid, so what can you do? Good thing Google didn't tell you to amputate your nose or ear lol. I had a septoplasty done by Dr. Gopal and I couldn't ask for better work. Surgery was quick, and effective. Have had the splints out for 1 week now and there is very minor bleeding and none really during the day, after the first week, I continued my job just fine. I highly recommend this Dr. to perform surgeries. Surgery took only an hour, I was in and out so quick. And my breathing is excellent now. Excellent ENT doctor, audiologist, and staff. Most well run office I have been to in a long time thanks to very capable, professional and friendly staff. Waiting room time was short. Dr. Gopal was thorough and quickly saw and explained how multiple problems were contributing to my condition. I need to be evaluated and treated by other specialists and he has referred me to other highly skilled people. Follow up communication by his office has been excellent. I feel like I am in very good hands and I now see a light at the end of the tunnel after several years of coping with significant pain. read more

Saw Dr. Gopal after what I thought was 3 month sinus infection that I thought would be with me forever. He examined nose,mouth and throat, then spayed lidocaine in sinus and carefully examined sinus with fiberoptics. His diagnosis.Not sinus infection but infection in my nose membranes that was causing the problems and driving me crazy.. Script for antibiotic cream and instructions how to apply it. Much better already second day. Staff and Dr.Gopal were uniformly kind and friendly. He was extremely knowledgeable including about the dilute essential oils i was using to keep problem at bay. Was also not difficult to get appointment pretty soon. Highest recommendation. read more

This ENT Board Certified Otolaryngologist is not good....he is outstanding. Was referred to him 9 months ago. Told me more about some of my breathing issues in five minutes than any previous doctor in 30 years. The guy is sharp. Original diagnosis was a deviated septum, causing difficulty breathing in one nostril. MRI confirmed 85% blockage. Performed surgery. Barely needed an aspirin post op. Follow ups have been great. For the first time in 62 years I can breath in both nostrils. This guy is a treasure. Could not recommend more highly! read more

Patients have been refused treatment because of office manager, Susan Evans. The office manager is very unprofessional and extremely unkind to patients when they are in need of assistance by the office's doctors. She laughs at patients who are asking for help, threatens them if they request respect, then denies them access to the doctors in retaliation. The staff, especially Susan Evans, treat patients in a rather inhumane way. People go to Dr. Gopal and Dr. Vernick because they are in need of care, not to be treated with contempt, disrespect and abusive language from their staff members and their office manager. Perhaps, the manager feels that she has the right to mistreat patients in the name of Dr. Gopal and Dr. Vernick, however, this is not right. read more

I not only see him onaregular basis to monitor my physical well being, but has also performed throat surgery for vocal chord polyps. He is a fantastic, caring physician. I'm 64 and have suffered from sinus problems for over 50 years, I also have asthma. I was referred to Dr. Gopal because I was considered a high risk patient. Dr. Gopal was professional and answered all my questions. His was confident that the surgery would change my life and he delivered. The endoscopic surgery was incredible with no bruising and little discomfort that I had experience in the past. Waking up naturally without a alarm and feeling rested and breathing out of my nose was life changing. Because my sinuses are under control my asthma has improved and I haven't had the flu in years. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE PATIENT SERVICES. Upon my arrival I received the standard paperwork to complete. When it came time to the section where they ask you to sign acknowledging that I accept any and all charges not covered by my insurance, I choose not to sign. I learned the hard way that if you sign this section, the office can send you a bill for essentially what ever they want. Whether it be the dr.'s hourly rate, etc. There were 3 women at the front desk. The very rude woman who assisted me was a blonde woman in a white lab coat... I explained to her that if it is not covered by my insurance...then I don't want it. That simple. She then became increasingly rude by my matter of factness and told me that without this signature they would not see me. She went on to say that it is the patients responsibility to contact their insurance company to find out what is covered. I explained to her that I had no idea what they were going to do on my first visit, that was approved by my insurance so how could i make such a call?
