I love Goodwill. I believe this is the only one in DC that has a donation center, but they were very well organized when I dropped off my bags of clothes and immediately gave me a receipt. Who even knew this place existed?!?! It's a hidden gem in DC. It's tucked away off of NY Ave, and even though it has a Goodwill sign, it looks like Goodwill offices and not a store. There's a parking lot, so it makes donating way easy. The store is spacious and well organized. I had a couple of good finds during two recent visits. Over the years, I have been generally without complaint about this store. But, the 3 star rating is about the fact that, on two occasions, I called the administrative offices to register consumer feedback on a disconcerting experience that I did not want to discuss in a public forum. Quick and easy. They bring a cart to your car, they take the goods out of your car, and they hand you a receipt when they're done. I haven't actually been in yet but I do intend to go in one day but I've been a couple of times to drop of and have had no problems. read more

If you're looking for good deals on housewares, def not a place to check out.. glasses and bowls .99 each... doesn't really make sense as you can buy new at Wal-Mart or IKEA for similar pricing. But they do have good deals on the larger pieces of furniture.. short sleeve shirts are $4.99.. Sure you can find similar pricing a H&M or online.. sorry. but just thought the pricing was too high for second-hand goods.. read more

I tried to donate a piece of exercise equipment in perfect position and was told that they would not take it per the General Manager.

I just left the South Dakota store, at the checkout, I was asked if I wanted to round the change to the nearest dollar, I said no, and the cashier gave me all nickel ($.95) worth, she did not even check whether she could have gotten me a change with some quarters or dimes. I believed after I said no she intentionally gave me all nickels. and when I asked if she could have given me, some quarters or nickels, the asst. manager Aurora intervened, insulted me, and made a scene. She told me in front of all the people in line that there was no need and spoke to me as if I am stupid for asking if there was any other change. You have good people working in your store, I hope you visit your store and review how your assistant manager treat customer, she continued bad-mouthing me and she made sure she keeps on humiliating me. she was not done and slammed her ID at the counter and a piece of post it, with a number and egging me to complain. Please look at the reviews, there are rude employees there, last time, an employee made an error ringing me a sale, instead of giving me a refund, she gave me a store credit, saying they don't do a refund in the store, please check your policy on the refund. to prove that store credit is only what they can offer, they pointed me to a policy, but store credit on employee error was not in the policy. Goodwill has been making so much money on donated Items, We should be welcome when we come to your store. your leadership shows a bad example to fellow employee, and if not address, this may be normal conduct to all employees, I left all the $.95 I don't need humiliation,just because I said no on giving my change to goodwill. read more

Dropped several boxes and bags of stuff off here after work on a Friday. Pull up around the back and unload. Easy peasy. My husband and I had some time to kill before our evening plans commenced so we decided to check out the store as well. It was well organized, not too crowded, and the employees were nice. I've been to this donation center a handful of times mostly to donate and have never had any issues what-so-ever. I've bought a few things there that I'm happy with. It's a goodwill, it's exactly what one should expect. They take your possessions you no longer want and sell them to others. read more

Great Goodwill location with a better selection than some other ones I've been to in the area. There's a big guy's section than other Goodwill stores and they even have a wall of blazers. Which is important because guys like a good deal just as much as the ladies. I found some nice outerwear pieces. They seemed to have a decent selection of furniture too. read more

A Fun thing to do on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Walking through the isles of little children at play, You should be able to find what your looking for, First tip at the Register,; Never Say Round-up if you want your Change back. Second tip; know your Size , they do have changing rooms , (unusual at most thrift stores) But it's been my experience ( I Drove for 2 big chain thrift stores= Value Village & Amvets) most of the clothes may or may not been laundered. I didn't find the ashtrays I was looking for, but did see some very nice Candy dishes , old German glass steins, And a good selection of men's & women's Jeans . I settled on a fancy Wine Cork Remover, that sold for 2$ bucks a mere fraction of its original 30$ price. There were a lot of nice Vintage China sets , some from recent , some from the the 1950s , I've been shopping thrift stores since I was 15 years old , back when it wasn't cool. I'm 50 now. The Typical rule of thumb goes, if you see it & like it & have the money to Buy it, Get while your there, It probably won't be there when you come back. read more

i love purging more than the most dedicated bulimic model/actress/just plain-vain-crazy-but-greedy-skinny girl. [purging my home, that is.] this is b/c i loathe clutter. LOATHE. if there is not a place for it, one needs to be found or it's got to go. "everything in its place and a place for everything" OCD uber annoyingly anal-retentive type? yup that's me! so, organizations like freecycle, craigslist, the salvation army, goodwill etc are my friends. i love them. LOVE. they take all the toys/gadgets/sports equipment/clothes the offspring has outgrown, the knick-knacks and odd gifts we sometimes get that we can't possibly find uses for, the shoes i've finally admitted pinch my feet so much that it doesn't matter how fierce they are, the old floor lamp from our living room that leans [like the tower of pisa] but still works, and so on. they take it all @ goodwill, and all with smiles. sometimes the smiles of the intake guys @ this goodwill are a little TOO big and there's some testoserone-y grunting/oogling, but it's never over the top or too offensive, so i just smile back and take my receipt and keep it moving. i like that they unload my car for me, and do it quickly. on more than one occasion i've backed into the loading area and by the time i got out of my car they'd taken everything out of the trunk and had receipt in hand for me! yay for speedy and easy service. . as for the store side, i've never actually been into it. it looks like they have a lot of good stuff to offer from what i can see through the front windows, but i don't trust myself to go in. yes, i am a purger...but i am also a shopper. i cannot let myself binge (shop) when i took the trip in an effort to purge! so, for now, i can only offer 1/2 a review - on the donation side. if you have old things that are still in reasonable condition, taken them on down to GW for donation. it will be painless and swift, and you might even get a tax write-off. read more

This is the best thrift type store in the city. It's easy to find high end brands, some w the tags still on. Well organized and super nice employees - they even helped me pick out an awesome outfit and were good enough to gently tell me when another was just not working. Not much for furniture, mostly clothing and some kitchen stuff. Also easy for drop off - just hand off the bags and go. Plus it all goes to a great cause. read more

I've been twice and was pleased both times. Favorite purchase was a 4 piece tea cup set for about 5 dollars! Found a few good staples for the fall as well. OooOoo and it is organized pretty well which minimizes the feeling of being overwhelmed. read more

Updated review: one of the best things this Goodwill had going for in the past was their expansive supply of great furniture. I've been back a few times and this is no longer true. I don't know if this means that people are donating less furniture or that the furniture is getting snatched up as soon as hits the floor. All I know is that I've been lately, and haven't found much to choose from, and then wasn't really excited about what was available. I'll continue to go, hoping to find a gem, some cute costume jewelry, or other random goods. read more

The drop off area for this good will is very well labelled and manned. The only con is the location is right off a very busy S. Dakota Ave, therefore the traffic can be hectic trying to turn in on it if you're coming from outside of the city. Given the quality and efficiency of the drop off, I assumed the store would be the same. Although the store is well organized, it doesn't have a large variety as compared to Village on 193. There was a lot of empty floor space, and they only had about 2-3 furniture pieces. However, in comparison to other thrift stores, they do have a "new" area with non-used items and they had a large selection of boxed bed springs and frames as well. read more

As far as Goodwill goes, this is one of the best locations. The employees are all super nice. Whenever you donate, they are more than happy to accept (no matter how much or how little you give). I've also found so many good things here. I still love my pair of black Gap jeans I found and a few Pyrex pieces at below market value. I had to dig a lot to find all of this but still so grateful to have them. Anyway, give this place a try. Whenever reviewing thrift stores, I always give the disclaimer that it's hit or miss (no matter where you go, there will be off days where you find nada), but it's worth a shot. As far as Goodwills go, this is def one of the better locations in the area. read more

Changing my review. We donated a bunch of chairs, clothes, and tables. The guy receiving us did not even so much as thank us, let alone ask if we wanted a receipt. This is not professional or even polite behavior considering we are giving them a lot of stuff. I was also in line around a week ago where the sign clearly says 'line starts here'. The woman instead said 'can I help you?' And since I was the only one in line, I proceeded to the counter where I found she was helping another person who had not been in line. Completely rude, profiling behavior. It's a shame as I've been coming to this goodwill for awhile. We also tried to donate a couch today. The woman there was extremely condescending and rude about it - telling us if there were any stains or rips/tears, they wouldn't accept it, so when she opened the trunk, there better not be any of it. She also rudely told me to wait in the car for her to pass with a cart she was rolling out. My boyfriend shut the door and it in turn knocked my door out a bit, to which she rudely repeated to me not to get out of the car. Never giving this Goodwill business again. Rude employees are completely unacceptable, especially considering we are giving THEM stuff for FREE and asking for nothing. Managers, if you're reading this, please tell your employees to treat people better. It's not even customer service at this point - it's common courtesy when someone is doing you a favor to at least act half decent towards them. It's not asking a lot. read more

This good will is small with a limited men's and size large women section. The staff was not very pleasant. But what I really find appalling was Veterans can only get discounts on Tuesdays. It seems to me on 4th of July weekend as our country celebrates its freedom...I a Veteran should be able to receive a discount on this weekend. I will not be returning. read more

I just took my first carload of donations here - quick and easy drop off. Associates were friendly and I will definitely be back!

I have dropped off items at this location for the last five years. The staff is always pleasant and do not hesitate to provide a receipt. Sometimes, mostly at the end of each season or near holidays, it is very crowded in the donation area, and you may have to wait; but everyone is polite which makes the wait okay. I think the items inside are probably nice as nice items are being donated. I appreciate the service that Goodwill provides to the community - locally and nationally. read more

Im always dropping off something here. This is an amazaing place. They always have great bargins as well. Everyone is super friendly.

Now I'm not one to normally critique a thrift store, however I drove across DC because the reviews led me to believe it carried a larger selection of home goods. Being in the market for all kitchen items available, I decided to give it a shot. Sorely disappointed. I left with the only 2 cooking pots they had on the shelf. Yes, they did seem to have a large selection of dishes and glass ware, but as far as any other item in that area- nothing. I didn't too much look through the clothes, but I noticed they didn't have an especially large selection of those either. They do have a private parking lot, which is helpful. read more

I haven't been to the retail store, but have been to Goodwill many times, most recently 2 weeks ago, to drop off my stuff for donation. It's pretty organized, straight forward and pain-free. Only complaint is that they're only open from 9 - 5:30 am, tough on the weekdays to get out there, but at least they're open on the weekends during those times. Not sure how public transportation friendly it is though. read more

I dropped off a box of old clothes and bar stools yesterday. When we got there, there was a huge team of people there, who were all really friendly. They thanked us five times and were very quick getting things out of the car and into their sorting bins. We also went shopping inside and found a bunch of great things for my new apartment including a george foreman grill, matching mugs and old decanter jars. read more

Super easy drop off. Less than 2-3 minutes to unload my car load full of stuff and walk away with my donation slip.

On 12/2, I called regarding drop-off. There's a prerecorded message that provides retail and drop-off hours. I pile up my car and head over there from Md. I arrived at least three hours before drop-off hours were to close and was told they are not taking any more donations. When I informed the young man that I had called and got information from a recording, he told me I should've have called the retail store. If I had known there are variables that impact the ability to drop-off, I would have called the retail store. And if that's the safest bet, they should provide that information on the recorded message. I ask to speak to a manager and a woman comes out, explains they're at capacity and tells me and others who are trying to donate to go to Community Forklift which is a few miles away. She tells us that that organization even accepts donations that they don't. I drive to CF, a few others did too, to hear they only accept building materials. What misinformation and a waste of time. Value Village in Hyattsville accepted my donations. I'll never attempt another donation here. read more

I just went here about two weeks ago for the first time-for some reason I always find myself venturing to the locations in Virginia when I can. I found a yellow and white Banana blouse 4.98, I've already received some great compliments on it! I also brought about seven hardback books that were in great condition, I think I paid 2.49 for each of them. The books were sitting up from on a desk that was also on display and I saw them as i was waiting in line to check out. My only compliant with this store would be the store hours! Seriously, all the other Goodwill's stay open until 9 pm, I wish this one did too! I'm sure in not the only one that works during the day which makes it impossible to go to this location as much as I would like. The store seems organized and the one employed I encountered seemed very nice. Perhaps I will have to come back on a weekend and spend more time searching for additional items. I will update.
