Great consignment shop - now I don't have to trek all the way to Northwest or VA to find a great quality second hand store.

This was my first time to a Unique Thrift Store. All the reviews were great, so I had to check out…read morethis place. The place is very well organized. Every section is labeled very clearly, easy to find the section(s) you are looking for. I love that! They are constantly adding more items so there are employees everywhere with carts of new items. I love that too! Always fun to go through the carts with items no one else has seen on the shelves yet. BUT ... the 3/5 stars is because of the pricing. Prices were often found to be unrealistic, very inconsistent, and not your typical thrift store pricing on many items. Now, I did not go through the clothing or shoe section, so I cannot speak for that area, which is predominately what this store has. I was in the "collectibles," glass, kitchen, toys, home goods, etc sections. A Longaberger basket for $30? It was medium size, no liner, no protector, excessive wear, nails were bleeding. It would not even resale in that condition for that much. A collectible vase for $30? It was large, beautiful, definitely name brand and likely very expensive when brand new or in used mint condition. The flowers on the sides were broken, unrepairable. There was fading, chips, and large crack on the bottom. A Longaberger small pitcher for $15? Okay, that seems okay, but in looking at the resale, it goes for maybe $20. The ROI is not good on this one. The pitcher was in mint condition. If you were buying to keep and use it would be a decent price. A marble round riser or cheese platter, small size, for $4.49? Okay, good price, or so I thought. When I turned this product over I found a sticker price tag from Ross for $3.99. WHAT? $2 discrepancy for the same exact item in the same condition. $15 ... $9 ... $3 ... same product, varying sizes (smallest was mid priced), all good condition. I could go on and on and could have taken more pictures, but I would have spent my whole time do this. I asked the lady helping folks at self checkout who prices items. She said "The people in the back, but this is the #1 complaint I hear ... the pricing." Now, I will say, I am 90% a reseller, but I also gift, source for friends, and keep items I find. Historically, thrift stores help the community to afford items for a cheaper price. They also keep things out of landfills. I found a few items at Unique at reasonable prices, so I did not come up completely empty handed! The biggest criticism I have about this place, as well as sister stores like 2ndAve, is the inconsistent pricing and often high pricing for items that are not even okay used.

They have a huge shoe/ jewelry/ bag/ accessories section right when you walk in that is amazing! It's really well organized and the largest accessories section I've seen at a Unique Thrift. They have tons and tons of clothing racks! I found some real gems in including a 100% linen shirt and three pairs of shorts. Each item is priced differently and the items are sorted by category and size. These thrift stores give you a 20% off coupon if you donate something. They also have 25% discount days on Mondays and Thursdays, so those days are pretty busy.

Just went back to the shop yesterday -- here are some updates!…read more - The shop is open now on Sundays from 3-6 pm... and NOT open on Saturday from 12-3. Essentially its hours now are Thursday-Sunday 3-6 pm. Even if the door is locked, just knock and the shopkeeper will let you in. - The owner (Sylvia) is going to start transitioning the clothes to the spring season... coming in a couple of weeks or so! - On that note, the shop's strong suit are the accessories -- lots of nice cocktail hats/handbags/jewelry. Examine closely, because pretty much everything in there's for sale. - Starting next week she's going to start making prices static. Yeah, no more haggling, but at least it will be a lot less pressure for those who are uncomfortable with negotiating. In conjunction, some of the prices of the clothing will be adjusted... so maybe that amazing paillette jacket will be cheaper now? Also, I've learned something recently, having become acquainted with the owner. Y'know how it might be kind of intimidating/irritating when the shopkeeper tries to talk to you/make comments about what you're browsing? Well, I always found it that way. All in all, it's just the keeper trying to be friendly, not necessarily trying to pressure you into buying something. Ain't nothin' wrong with trying to be nice.

The prices are to die for, especially in DC where most vintage or thrift stores are anything but thrifty. The shop owner, Sylvia, is such a sweet lady. She gave me a great deal on some amazing pieces I would have easily paid double for and still would have walked out thinking I got a good price. Needless to say I will be going back again and again and will do my best to spread the word about this lovely little gem. I am almost a bit hesitant to share this with too many of my friends, as I want to make sure I get all the goodies, but there seemed to be plenty to go around and the shop owner is just too nice and lovely to not help support. Go there - you will find something you love. Great place to buy gifts!!!

What stood out most was the selection of cookware, most in really good condition. The displays were thoughtfully put together and added a nice touch. So they get four stars for that. 2) selection: the store was well stocked, and I found a few things I was looking for and a few things I wasn't but realize I needed 3) size: I called is a superstore, but compared to the store tomorrow it's about half the size. It wasn't as small as some of the Goodwills but I don't know that I would call it a superstore. 4) prices: as 2nd Ave. always does. There are two colors that were 50% off so if you can find those you'll get some great deals. Otherwise the prices were decent. It seems as though many thrift stores have raised their prices, but I wouldn't say the prices were outrageous or unreasonable. 5) location: it was relatively easy to find, and had a sufficient amount of parking. 6) service: I appreciate the self check out that they offer. And the staff was responsive and helpful when I was looking for a couple of items in the store. Overall, this is absolutely worth a stop, and I will likely be back.

It's massive so come with a plan or you'll get overwhelmed. This location does not have changing rooms. The bathrooms were useable the last time I was here but just barely. If you'd like it to be quieter and more organized come on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Since there are no changing rooms, wear close fitting clothing so you can try items on over what you're wearing. You can spend hours in this store. There are two significant drawbacks to thrifting, though, and this store (like most) exhibits them both: no dressing rooms and an unfriendly return policy. You can return items, but it must be within two weeks and you must spend the money on the day of your return - no money back or store credit. Go prepared - dress in removable layers, with a thin first layer to allow you to try as much on as possible in public!
