I understand the popularity of vintage and secondhand items, and all proceeds do go to the church, but the pricing has become more and more ridiculous that I wonder if they even sell anything besides the truly unique items. Quite a number of items are priced near or more than the price of it brand new. An example is a very used Cooke Street Aloha Shirt from Costco. NEW at Costco is $19.99. Here, $15. Starbucks Ceramic Tumbler $28. Here, $19. I feel the people pricing the items follow eBay prices, or checks how much it is brand new, and then goes from there depending on condition. It's like those people at garage sales where they get super upset and offended when you bargain, and they start telling you how much they bought it for, how it's "barely used", how "high" quality, how they spend their "hard earned" money, and etc. Then in the end, you just give a polite smoke and kindly say, "okay, no thanks." It's the same as here. Just take a look, and then "okay, no thanks. Bye!" It's hard because there are a lot of unique items and do want to give support, but it's not thrifty!

The good thing about it is that it's covered... you can drop off your items even though it's raining! Enter and exit on Young Street. Just follow the signs! Collect a donation receipt before you leave! Easy!

National I AM day…read more.. A positive affirmation that we all need to remind ourselves more often than you'd realize and on this day I am focused to clear some unused items that I did in just minutes and dropped them off for donation at a neighborhood Goodwill. The positive feeling to reduce the stress of decluttering and making a space for myself to relax and enjoy it with moments to do what I enjoy and to donate them hoping it will go to someone who needs it. This Goodwill on Beretania is very convenient with a drive thru drop off and you're given a paper which you can claim in for your tax receipt though the feeling to help is always great and along with Goodwill we can make a difference. The handbag section has some great vintage, designer items, and they have a couple of lovely jewelry cases. I have found some great deals - classic aloha shirts, office supplies (why pay retail?), and beautiful pottery. There is even a section of succulents near the front counter potted by someone from the congregation. The shop is open on Thursdays and Saturdays. And although parking is plentiful, start your turn signal early as it is a quick turn into the driveway from the busy Kalanianaole Highway!

We had to check it out. A travel agency that just doesn't have the clientele anymore, the owners decided to turn most of their office space into a little thrift and consignment store. They have all manner of typical thrift goods: jewelry, toys, records, books, home goods, clothing, decor, and others. Prices are reasonable and typical. The only thing lacking is the selection; they have what they have and that's it. The cashier volunteer that day was very friendly and talked story with us for quite a while. It's worth checking out if you enjoy bargain and treasure hunting. Half their profits go to a local charity.

A Thrift Store Edition…read more My little family and I were driving down the street on Beretania for another errand when a green sign on the left screamed "Thrift Shop, today!" If you currently do business with Cosmopolitan Travel (name is on their building), on the same shopping center (where Petco and Walgreens is) this quaint little thrift store is in the same brick and mortar. The travel agency has long existed for many years and decided to add a little boutique as part of their business venture. The entrance is located on the back side of the boutique/travel agency and has their own mini lot. Drive in to the lot like you're going to Petco. The boutique is rather homey and tiny with an eclectic amount of knick knacks and small trinkets in every corner. Make sure you're looking up and down and in every crevice of this tiny store. Don't forget to look deep into the glass shelves for rare vintage/costume jewelries, pins and such. On the back a small rack of mixed articles of clothing, bags are hung up for perusing. Are you looking for kitchen cups and plates? On the back displays plenty for one to touch and feel. "If you don't buy it today, it may not be here tomorrow." which is true on all rules of treasure hunting. Delicate china's are in store along with shells, Christmas decorations, CD's, movies, 45 RPM records. The price is attractive for every piece you find. Eva was kind enough to tell us about the store she's looking after with her additional stories of history. It made our perusing experience that much more pleasant. All items are organized thruout the store. When it does we look to the little things in life and see if it can go to someone who needed it more than we do, this is where consignment was something I've done in the past which can be risky but is great tool to sell that item your not totally committed to. Rhea Lana's is the nation's children consignment place that holds events is 25 states and guess what we have one right here in Hawaii and was coincidentally held in the former Toy r us location in Pearl City. I was just taken aback of how much inventory they had!Very neat and organized all sorted with clear signage for all things for kids like clothing, shoes, toys, furniture, books and even accessories for mom like bags and bottles. There was a few items I was interested in but the line was decently long with carts filled with items I though what a great organization this is and is obviously very needed in this community.
