Wow. Be prepared when you come here! Make sure you bring some waterproof work gloves (gardening gloves dipped in nitrile or rubber work great) and a particle mask if you are allergic to dust or pet dander. Wear jeans and a t-shirt, and some comfortable shoes. You'll be there awhile and things are a little dirty. As soon as I started shopping, I was amazed by how crazy people get when they are shopping there. Some guy was chucking books in my direction without even looking. When he got done with his area, he stood an inch away from me waiting for me to move. Several women chucked clothes right at my head without looking, too. Everything is tossed in bins, some shoulder high. Employees will just move bins while there are people crowded around them, so make sure you're paying attention. I had an employee hip check a bin right into my stomach. The first time I reached into a bin and pulled up something wet, I was very glad that I brought some gloves. I was able to get a dvr box, a silver serving dish, a 1969 Nabisco Saltines tin, a purse for my daughter to play with, 10 Barbies, two records, and two kid's books. I also got a genuine Oscar de la Renta men's suit jacket, 6 wool sweaters for felting, and a huge bag of clothing for my family. The total was $48 for everything. Considering the jacket alone was worth at least that much, it was a great deal. Make sure to wash anything fabric, and wipe down everything else with some sanitizing cleaner when you get home. It's not a bad idea to shower and wash your hair as soon as you get home, too. (Especially if you have allergies!) Our clothes were stripped when we got in the door and thrown in the wash because we felt so dirty after spending two and a half hours there. Don't be afraid to go, just be prepared! read more

This Goodwill is NUTS!!! It is not for the faint-hearted, as you have to dig through bins of sometimes-dirty and/or smelly clothes. Sometimes I'm just not up for it, but it can be worth it for the great deals. I found some treasures here the other day, but it took time and work. I got an incredible shocking pink vintage coat with some kind of fur trim, plus some beautiful vintage sweaters. I also found a brand new dress shirt and pants for my boyfriend. This goodwill is hard core. If you are a real thrift shopper this is the place for you only if you have time and patience. A dollar 49 cents a pound is a good deal only if you are willing to fight and dig n bins along with other thrifters. Never donate here. I went to donate 5 bags of clothes today and the woman (Hispanic with a tattoo on her face) told me she could only take 2 bags because the night shift employee left a mess for her to clean up and her manager told her to turn donations away. First off when I pulled I could see her sitting down on her phone. Too busy to take donations? I don't think so. Also, why could you take 2 bags but not all 5? What's the difference? I know what the difference is, she doesn't want to work. Lastly, why would a manager of a company that literally only exists because people donate stuff to them have their employees turn donations away? It logically makes no sense. I like to donate stuff that I don't use anymore because there are people out there who are less fortunate than I am and can really use it but rest assured today is the last time I ever try to donate to a good will again. Large store with racks upon racks of clothing, organized by color and size. They do have a plus-size section. Shoes are very hit & miss. (Note: I've only looked/bought Women's items here.) The home goods & craft area is chaotic! Very small furniture area. Handbags & accessories are all over the store, not one central location. Store location is easy to find with lots of easy parking and friendly staff. Not the best area of town, but I've never had any problems. read more

It's not easy finding something work purchasing but when you do it's well worth the low price (1.52 per lb) you also have to be aware of when they roll out new carts. I found so much amazing stuff here. It's very important that you wear gloves. I had to change my gloves several time and they went to white to orange/brown in minuets. The staff is friendly. Sacramento Goodwill Outlet This store should have a caution sign that says: "For safety reasons customers should wear elbow and knee pads as well as goggles and gloves to protect their hands from other exuberant shoppers. Please keep all gunfire outside" This is a mad house. I loved it! Besides the usual nutjobs muttering to them selves or screaming at a fake christmas tree, they have die-hard professional shoppers that can grab faster than a frog on a dragonfly. One guy's sleeve actually wiped my nose as it passed too close underneath. There are arms reaching around you as you stand there, trying to grab something past you. I must have looked like the Indian statue in the Beatles "Help" movie with all the arms waving around. There are no "excuse mes" that would waste valuable 'reaching for stuff' time. This is the granddaddy of all die-hard thrifting. Every polite social grace is abandoned. It's a blast! Stooping is sooo under-rated!! Everytime I've gone, the same couple (that must sleep in the clothes bins when everyone goes home) is there in the books, hoarding and hovering over an overstuffed cart. They bring their own glue, color markers and other repair doodads to see if a book can be fixed before they buy it. If they don't like the result it gets thrown like a hot potato back into the bin. The over flowing books in their cart are 99 cent sellers, (if that,) now that every soandsoandhismother sells on ebay. I can't wait to go back. Well...I've been to this outlet store at least one dozen times. It's a CRAZY place. First of all...I don't really like the way the items are "attacked" when a new bin is rolled out. You better be able to stick up for yourself! There are "regulars" there who make the occasional shopper feel like they're out of place! They think they own the place! The men are RUTHLESS. And so are a lot of the women too. They speak in other languages you can't understand. It's no worse than some estate sales I've been to. The neatest thing I've ever seen pulled out of a bin? A 50's pedal car in pretty nice shape. The coolest thing I ever found? A 50's double peacock chenille bedspread in PERFECT condition. Sometimes there are not enough carts to go around. That's a problem. Checkout is a problem too because you have to bag all your stuff...if you buy a lot you hold up the line and really tick people off. Bring bottled water. Eat before you get there. Have an open mind and be ready to grab what you want. It's a "free for all"...and that's for sure! read more

i am a fan of this place. i know this is not in a good neighborhood and many bums inside but this is where u find the goodies at. when i walked in i was like omg the people are no joke they are dressed ready to go through the bins and throw them in their own carts that they bring with them because don't expect to get a cart inside because those are all taking. i felt like i was dumpster diving inside here looking for the good stuff. but when i saw the clothes i was like no thanks because omg some look so filthy and dirty and it just look appealing to even go through it and find the nice stuff. however i do like to go through the bins with the electronics and purses and accessories. while i was digging through the stuff i found a burburry purse which was fake, found a gucci red leather purse which was vintage and looks real, found a old tear up prada bag which was real and vintage and it was in very bad condition tho. i also found a canister organizer for like remotes, pens, and etc to hold in it. i also found a cute panada bag to hold my junk i carry everyday lol.... but man while i was digging through the bins it felt like i was fighting with people because they are all hovering and throwing stuff everywhere lol to find the goodies. most of the people looked homeless or very poor which i don't have a problem with a long as they are not rude to me or being mean to me. anyways i came out the store with one gucci purse and panada bag and a metal organizer and i didn't know they weigh the items and i forgot how much it cost for a lb but it was under 2 bucks a pound like a dollar 80 i believe. i came out the store with only spending 5 bucks which i was very happy with. i will have to come back here more often to dig through the bins and find them good treasures. also the large items like xmas trees and etc don't weigh by lbs those are on the price list for cheap. my friend told me they found a unopened kmart 7 foot tree with a price tag on there and paid only 10 bucks out the door. so i was like u can really find good deals. read more

By far one of the messiest store I've been to. You have people pushing and shoving and there was this one time where a kid got knocked over while the employees was pushing a bin in. The employee rushed the cart and people moved backed which knocked the kid over. I could barely see the kid getting up in the thick crowd even though the crying could be heard from which I was standing from, about ten yards away. No one besides the mom tended her child. There is just a huge crowd rushing towards the new bins and I believe there should be more precaution while doing this. Maybe have the security block off an area so new bins can be placed instead of having them walk around and look good only then go to the back storage. The employees just seems to want to push out their bins and go back to the backroom. Sometimes they bump into people with the bins whether taking or bringing out new carts. Also they don't let you SIT on the couches! After seeing all these madness I went to another room where the furniture was at. I sat on a sofa for about three minutes and then a random huge barely can walk African guy with no name tag and a stain sweater said I can't sit on it unless I buy it. (Maybe he works there, I don't know). Its a goodwill store! I've been to other Goodwill's that has no problem with people sitting on the couches. I've seen other Goodwill's handle things better. This place is for the hardcore thrift shopper. It is kind of gross but it is so fun to spend an hour digging through trash for little awesome treasures and to watch the "professionals" attack the new bins. I always end up with designer clothing which is really cool. I dug a vintage Escada handbag out of a bin that at first glance looks like a dumpster. And the best part is that they charge by the pound, so clothes end up being pennies. The only thing is that I feel like I have to take a shower when I get out of there, but it is totally worth it. read more

Came here today to purchase loads of clothes that I will be donating to the Haiyan/Yolanda victims. I just would like to say this spot is pretty awesome! First off this is not your typical thrift store with organized shelf and clothing in hangers so don't expect much. The set up is pretty self-explanatory with giant bins of clothes, shoes, books, some furniture on a separate room, etc. You get whatever you want/find so FYI BRINGS GLOVES AND HAND SANITIZERS because you will be digging up to those bins! The fact that they charge $1.39/lb of clothing says it all (yes you can buy single items too but why would you want to do that!?). You can find really nice and branded clothes here if you're patient enough! For the ladies, think semi-annual sale at Victoria's Secret except there will be a lot of guys digging for clothes next to you so WEAR COMFORTABLE AND APPROPRIATE CLOTHING. read more

I am a person with a disability and have nothing but problems with Goodwill at 6648 Franklin Blvd in Sacramento in my efforts to seek job training and/ or employment. I have now called three times to speak with the person in charge of the Situational Assessment Program. Each time I have been placed on hold: then someone comes on the line to tell me the person I am trying to reach is:A) Too busy to come to the phone, or is B) In a meeting. My name and phone number was taken each time and I was told I would be called back and it hasn't happened. I have also gone in person and because I have a disability I was told I could not be helped at this place and was given the address and phone number of the Sacramento Office of Alta California Regional Center. Upon contacting them I was informed that I would have to wait two to three weeks for an appointment for an intake assessment. Two weeks passed and I called to give them a secondary number where I may be reached. This time the recording stated there was a waiting time of two business days before I would be contacted! There is no reason to give me or anyone the runaround. Not only that, the prices have really rocketed at Goodwill compared to other thrift stores. What amazes me is when I read how they help so many people and that accounts for Goodwill charging more and yet, not only have I shopped at various Goodwill stores over the years I am someone who is seeking their assistance and am not receiving it. I think Goodwill can count on me being a former shopper after this. read more

The goodwill at Walegra and Elkhorn Blvd. Really is a bad place to shop. I've had 2 separate incidents with 2 different employees of that store. The first incident happen about 6 months ago. An employee kept entering my dressing room unannounced. Her name was Betty. I let the manager know that she entering unannounced. He said he would handle this problem. He did not handle the situation. She did this very same game of unannounced entering again only this time I caught her and threw her out of the dressing room. Again I spoke with the store manager. Finally, I called the district area manager and what they told me is "oh yes we will handle this problem." The area manager excuse was she probably is not understanding English. We will take her keys and give her further education. A few weeks latter she was right back doing the same game of unannounced entering the dressing rooms again. Today I in that store again. Some in employee almost hit me in the eye with a rack full of clothing.. She slung a rack full of clothing at me after clearly making eye contact with me. As we are making hostile eye contact I decided to deal with this problem from a distance. Again I talked to the assistant manager. Who was dumber than dirt. So I phone the store and spoke to the store manager. Again "we will the just further her education" story was used.. After having these 2 incidents happen. I do not think I'll be shopping at Goodwill store. I do not Like GW and I would not spend another dime in the dirty store read more

I love a bargain and I don't mind the sometimes dirty, wet or broken items I might have to pick through to find a treasure. The biggest drawback for me are the "regulars" who are there all day - every day picking for stuff to resell at flea markets. The regulars will have 2-3 carts full of stuff covered with a blanket while they work on their next cart. They also work in teams and know each other. They know the employees who actually alert them when something good is coming out. They line up shoulder to shoulder blocking out normal customers and then swarm the bin grabing anything they thing might be of value while tossing the other stuff into other bins making it nearly impossible for a regular person to get in there and see anything new that hasn't been picked over by the professionals. I used to go fairly often, but now the regulars are so aggressive and numerous that I' can't compete with their crews. read more

This place is definitely not for the weak hearted, or easily frazzled because this place is like hard cored thrifting site. I remember coming here with my family on accident back in 2007, we came in here expecting a regular thrift shop, like regular good will but we were greeted by bins and bins and ppl digging lol. But I remembered scoring nothing there back than cuz I was like eww that was 16 year old me back than. but my mother I remembered scored plenty. I remember it was like 1.29 a pound back than lol. Today when the boyfriend went to work, I decided to kill sometime, and plus I wanted some new stuff. Yes clothes and shopping is an obsession even though I do get a lot of my clothes on good deals and sales, it still adds up. so I went here around 4:20 and I am like on fire after jamming to Macklemore's thrift store song, "I'm pop some tags only got 20 in my pocket..." Okay I will stop singing lol. Anyways I was super pumped up, I am like yeah, I am prepared for whatever I can find. There was quite a lot of people there, some ppl, have like mountains of stuff in their cart. I am like wow. that's a lot of stuff. Anyways I am sure there would be good stuff, hopefully ppl didn't take them all. Anyways, within few minutes I found a tank top at target, I am like cool, good condition and I can wear that to sleep, good for layering, and after rejecting lot's of ugly stuff, I found few more stuff, and than after more rejects and say nope not for me, I found few more items. I am like oh my gosh here I thought I might not find anything but it was all hidden. Than like almost an hour and half later I am about to call it a day, cuz my hand hurts and I want to go to the eco thrift store before it closes so I was like I looked through 60% of the bins I scored a good amount I am ready to head out, as I waited in line in the bin I saw a pretty ass vintage dress just chilling on top. I am like omg that's so pretty and I wasn't even looking for it. See, perfect things comes when you don't look for it!!! Plus while I was waiting in line I decided to dig in the bins by the line and I found one more blouse, I am like this is awesome. I bet if I stayed here for like 3 hours I had tons more stuff lol. Maybe a mountainful like some people's cart I saw today, lol. Like I said this is not for ppl who are easily frazzled because you literally dig through trash before you find something worthwhile. That being sad, I saw bunch of bras and undies, lil gross but hey whatever. Plus side, I found 10 things here, and only paid 5.16 cents.... Incredible right. $5.16 for 10 things. That's sooo good. I will return again if I have time to kill. Hint, if you want to come in and get out, this is not place for you, to shop here you have to have least an hour to kill or more. I love this place! I'm close to the one on madison but this one has better clothes. You have to know what you're getting yourself into before you go though. Its dirty, so bring hand sanitizer or gloves. Never Any baskets so if you have a rolling cart or something bring it. Otherwise you dig through the bins and find all kinds of treasures. I get all of my daughter's justice brand clothing here and it's 1.49 a lb ! Can't beat that. People can be rude and pushy which is why I quit coming on the sale days. The best of their locations - you buy by the pound. BUT - you have to sort through huge tubs, along with lots of other people. It's a bit grimy - don't dress up here. OK, this place isn't for everyone. Even though I love it, there have been days that I've decided to leave because I wasn't in the right mood for it. I don't think that's a good reason to diss it, though. It just isn't for everyone. There are lots of kids running around and people who are hard core about it, wear gloves and dig like crazy. A lot of people, like myself, buy items here to resell or repurpose. I actually like to spend time looking for treasures. I've found some awesome stuff here. I once found an early leather Samsonite suite case for only $3.00. Its worth about $50. I often find a lot of heavy jackets and stuff. I am done with this place. Oh, there are occasion bargains to be had, if someone does not steal it from your cart. This happens much too frequently. And "rude" does not fully describe the lot of frenzied people jumping upon every new bin that comes out. Unless you are prepared to trade elbows to not get push aside, tolerate the smells of some who have not bathed for a week, get stuff ripped from your hands by "professional shoppers," then be prepared to sift through their leftovers. And the book buyers, as others have described, literally do horde all the books, grabbing any "worthy in their eyes" book, throwing it into their two carts, and then checking the price of the books later to see if it is worth buying. Again, you get stuck with the leftovers. There are probably five or six of them, one couple seems to be there every day and every hour; however, they do not smell and are not as pushy. Scavengers rip apart any computer to buy only the memory cards and maybe the hard drive, leaving the remainder a useless hulk. Searching for clothes or shoes ($2 a pair) is the same story tho occasionally i get lucky because there is so much of it and the hoarders just can't get it all. And then when you are ready to check out, often there are long lines and only one checkout person. However, to be fair, the Goodwill staff is probably overwhelmed by the hordes; the employees I have interacted with all seem very nice and courteous. And not every shopper is a despicable low-life, there are some decent people there trying to get bargains, whether for themselves, to ship overseas, or for resale, to stretch their dollars. However, after having yet another item taken from my cart while I was looking through the bins, because i don't have eyes on the back of my head, I am done. read more
