I have donated to this location many times over the years and recently made two donation drop offs and both times Cathleen assisted me. She is approachable, friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and had zero issues with how much stuff I was bringing in (and it was A LOT!). The rest of the helpers were awesome too...felt like I was making friends! I also had e waste items and she shared they also accept those - I didn't know and she saved me a trip (with gas at a million dollars a gallon that was super awesome to know!). Easily the worst goodwill I've been to. They don't size sort anything by sizes so it's a nightmare trying to find pants or shirts in your size. You're pretty much just guessing the sizes if you happen to see something you like. The staff acted like it was a big deal when I asked to try on clothes in the fitting room. Donating to local thrift stores has been a part of my life for a while but this location has some interesting rules. Yesit is centrally located but getting in and out of there can be hassle during rush hour. Today I stopped by to drop off a few items including 20-30 wooden hangers. A guy came chasing me down with the box saying they don't accept hangers at this location...seriously?! After reading the reviews on here I decided to check this place out. I love rifling through thrift stores and finding that oddball item which only means something to you. Well, I browsed around for 30 mins or so but unfortunately didn't find anything that appealed to me per se. However there were a lot of things I know which could appeal to a lot of people. Spacious although not as spaciously set up like the Lake Forest location. Parking lot stucks though. UGH! This is the WORST Goodwill I've been in. SO ratty. I did buy a fork, but it was just full of less than pleasant customers and staff although the woman running the cash register was friendly and nice. The pricing here was laughable, worse than most Goodwills and the clothing was not desirable. The other thing is they don't do the $1 Thursday thing that other Goodwills do. I'm not sure if I will continue to come here. I've thrifted here for years and the neighborhood has gotten worse and worse every single day. I'm not sure what the police need to do to clean up the Westside of Costa Mesa but it's turned into a full on homeless shanty town and drug den zoo. I don't have to thrift, I do it because I like it and I think it's fun. I really don't know how much "fun" I've had in there the last times I have visited this store. First of all just driving over here is a hazard with all the homeless people just walking right out in traffic in front of your car on 19th street. When you finally get to the parking lot you have several homeless just standing around blocking the entrance and exit driveways. But wait, it gets better, much better. Inside you will find people who mutter to themselves, talk loudly to themselves, smell gawd awful and scream at people across the store accusing them of taking things out of their shopping carts. Really, is this fun or a "good time"? No, of course not. On top of all of that the prices here are for the most part ridiculous, way too high for a thrift store. Every time I have been in here lately I've wondered to myself why in the world I would want to be in this store. I use this place regularly to drop off donations since it is very convenient to drive and drop off my donations. However I looked at the website this morning and it said that they were open at 8 AM. Showing up at 8:30, there were two people working and the gate was open. They stated they didn't open until 9 AM, which was clearly posted on the gate. I asked if I could just drop off a few items since I drove all the way down from my house and they rudely said no I'd have to return in a half an hour. There was no apology or no sense of professionalism at all. A little common courtesy goes a long way. While this place is convenient I will be looking for a new place to take my donations. read more

I was there about five month ago, got dive fins for $5.99, maxie dress for $6.99, mens shoes $8.99, little kids backpacks $4.99....$26.96 I went this week, dive fins $24.99 ( more than retail store marked price ), maxie dresses $12.99, mens shoes $19.99 and kids backpacks $14.99....total of $72.96 So in five months Goodwill felt these items they received for free were worth $46.00 dollars more. $46.00 More???? Oh and I love how as they are announcing the discount color of the day employees are knocking customers out of the way to pull items off the shelf with that color tag. God forbid you get to buy something that has been discounted. Watched an employee let a customer go in the back and pick through carts before it was taken out to the main floor. Very disappointed and unless you like paying retail prices for used, worn and dirty items go somewhere else. read more

Oh Goodwill, why do I harbor so much ill will toward you? Oh I know! First of all - there's nary a parking spot to be found. Despite all the "You will be towed" signs, I've got a sneaking suspicion that DMV-ers are using this lot for overflow parking. So, fine, after circling a few times, I go waaaay down a side street, because apparently I'm THAT desperate to go to Goodwill. I get inside to see one of the most disorganized Goodwill stores I've ever seen. Just a mess. But, that's not totally a bad thing, it makes treasure hunting that much more exciting. And, while Goodwill is generally overpriced these days, I still did manage to find a few great gems for an 80s party, as well as a couple of ugly sweaters to add to my collection. (That's right. I've got a collection.) Plus, I'm always excited to play up my vague ethnicity, and happily using my mad spanish skillz when the clerk chose to only speak to me in spanish. I thought these places were for the unemployed, the broke, etc. When I was a kid, these places charged under a buck for clothes and broke people could buy clothes to survive the streets, or get cheap slacks, shoes, dress shirts, and coats for job interview and maybe jobs. Guess what they charge for a used, hole filled T-shirt? No, just guess? Like 5 bucks. And if you find a piece with a half price color, that same T is $2.50. Unbelievable. How are the homeless and out of work supposed to find that kind of money. They don't have a job. This place gets free stuff and then sells it. What's the mark up? 100%. That's the highest mark up on the planet. These people are genius. They are printing money. When I'm done here I'm going to see if its a publicly traded company and invest in it if it is. I came in here to help out a friend buy some clothes to get back on their feet. I was appalled at the crap they sell. There were no shoes nice enough to wear. And we looked at ties. Guess how much a used tie was? $4. Unbelievable. There's cheaper stuff on ebay, but homeless people have no computer or mail box for items to be sent to? The parking lot sucked. There were druggy looking people hanging out front, lurking. Very unpleasant. Full of crappy stuff. WAY OVERPRICED. I'm shocked. Might as get brand new, clean stuff at another discount store that rhymes with Boss or TJ Slacks. Sure its a little more costly, but you know its new and clean and you can find your size. You do not understand. I pretty much live at this Goodwill. Do you know why? Because I have a side business selling high-end designer items on ebay. Do you know where 90% of those items come from? THIS GOODWILL. I've gotten Marc Jacobs purses, a TORY BURCH $500 purse like brand new WITH the dustbag, a real Louis Vuitton, Diane Von Furstenberg, Burberry, Betsey Johnson, and so many more... On any given day I leave with at least 3 designer items. I once bought a tunic thingy here that was brand new, never worn for $8. I sold it on ebay for $500. I am not kidding. If you love the thrill of the hunt and are willing to put up with screaming, poorly behaved children whose parents truly could give a crap about their children running around and breaking everything (the only reason I took off a star), then absolutely do it. The key is coming here REGULARLY and being willing to really dig. *If you are nice to the employees, who put up with A LOT here (I've seen a woman strip down to her underwear OUTSIDE the dressing rooms rather than wait to try something on) they occasionally help you out a little on prices. A little wink, and something that was $40 could be $20. It is probably a dress, but they'll charge it like a blouse. If it seems priced really high (designer) just ask, can't hurt! This goodwill is also priced more cheaply than most. AND they sometimes give out 25% off coupons which are amazing when you want to buy a more expensive item! I've also gotten TONS of cute furniture items here, and many of the action sports big-names donate here a few times a year (Volcom, Aqua VI, Hurley, Rip Curl) and you get brand new stuff or samples, often with tags still attached! Also lots of brand new Target items. When the Missoni line was sold out in Target stores, I bought tons of it here and resold it! Why pay full price when you don't have to? So, my recent move has called for a recent need of additional vintage furniture..... I have tons of vintage furniture but I have swapped up my art deco decor for a little more mid-century... I have been scanning Craigslist in search of a Credenza and well no luck. So when my friend told me that Goodwill was open on Sunday's (basically my only day off) I was happy to go hunt. So my friend and I met up for a little hunt. I dig thrifting. It's fun. BUT, I loathe the dust and the itchy watery eyes that comes from doing so. The store had tons of newer crap. Shit that I didn't care about and I didn't find what I was looking for. BUT... I did find an Eames like chair. Wrong color but that is what upholstery is for. I paid $40 and some change for it. Prices are fair. I didn't bother looking at the clothes. However, my friend found a very cool Members Only jacket that I wanted to fight him for... The loud bunch of kids had my skin crawling and a bit annoyed. I don't know why some parents let their kids roam like a pack of wolves and destroy shit.... Our visit was brief. In short.. After watching a Pawn Stars marathon, I decided a Goodwill visit was in order as I've only ever visited 'thrift stores' like Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange. I was surprised there was no smell inside, as the aforementioned stores always have a funky odor. Items are thrown haphazardly on shelves, but digging makes it more fun, right? Target donates new stuff to this location (as I have heard the Goodwill near CSUF gets as well) so there was brand new shoes, bar stools, home decor all in original packaging for half the price! I also saw H&M silk tops, Gap blazers, and name-brand jeans. I scored a $3 adjustable shoe rack and a $6 Forever 21 sweater with tags attached! No sales tax is awesome too. The parking is strange, to say the least... for some reason they blocked off the lot when we were first about to turn in and then after circling around, it was open again. I don't even know. Anyway, this is a pretty small goodwill and it was pretty well organized. Not too clean, I felt like the shopping carts were making my clothes dirtier than they already were. Had three dressing rooms that were pretty tight but hey, at least they had dressing rooms! What everyone says is true. The parking lot is rinky dink! This has to be the cleanest Goodwill that I have stepped foot in. Everything was well organized and priced. There were a lot of employees organizing all of the departments. The store is mostly stocked with modern items and castoffs from Target. My goal was to find vintage clothes or old timey, time nick nacks. There were no treasures for me, which made me pretty sad. I've been coming here since junior high- so more than 25 years. I've since moved from Newport but still visit the thrifts when I come visit my family. I hit 3 of my regular spots- This one, HB off Adams and two in Santa Ana. GOODWILL YOU SUCK. Its possibly about 60% Target/Merona? I don't know where they are putting actual donations from real people went. Maybe their shopgoodwill.com website so they can gouge people there? What awful business practice. Totally bored on a Sunday afternoon, I decided to check this place out. I recently went to the DMV and passed by. What caught my eye while driving by was....I noticed everything was hung by color. Oh la la! When your coming up 19th St from Harbor It's on the right side with a small parking lot. The parking lot is a bit hard to see so keep those eyes open to make a quick right into the lot. I entered the store and noticed it was a decent size. I found a really cute mini snakeskin messenger bag for $4.99. I noticed they had pretty good selection of furniture as well. They had a really cool mid century looking lazy boy chair. If my house wasn't already so crammed, I would have snatched this chair up in a heartbeat. This is a great place to get that shopping urge out of your system. Lots to look at and go through. Also, you won't be spending that much $$$. I didn't really see anything over $9.99. read more

Their parking lot is small, much too cramped and is hazardous since it is also where cars line up to drops off donations. It is a fender bender just waiting to happen. And be sure to watch your kids, hold their hands, because there is a lot of blind backing-up going on here. It was so crazy busy this past Saturday, cars idling, lining up waiting for a parking spot. And leaving vehicles have to make a five point turnabout just to get out of their spots. After ten minutes and a few close calls, I just took off. Parking alone makes me not want to come here. Talk about a place that has lost it's way. They've become picky about the condition of say a couch, or furniture in general. The staff is awful, I was actually told by someone "Sorry I'm off the clock.", really? Now, given the quake of retro-fasioned buyers in the market I can understand some of their price increase. But really a couch for 250$ at the Goodwill? This is a group that has lost it's way. I don't think I've ever been as overwhelmed by a thrift store as I have by this one. First, there are clothes organized by color, which does make finding your size a bit of a chore, but all the more glorious it is when your size does (maybe) emerge. But I think the best part of this Goodwill is the sheer number of knickknacks. So many great things. I went on a Saturday, so it was relatively crowded, but still manageable. Also, the blue tag merchandise was all half off. With this in mind, I went hunting and found a Sony DVD player for college for $7.50, and then a George Foreman Grill for $4.50. Even better is that there is a strip of electrical outlets in which you can plug your appliances to make sure that they work. My friend was sorely tempted to buy one of those KURV? vaccuums, new in box, for $20, but decided against it. I bought a Splendid cardigan for $3, and there were minor holes in it, but I think those were from the price tags. It was clean, had 2 public bathrooms easily accessible, and had a huge selection of things, including old vinyls and such. Can't comment on the parking as I parked in the nearby shopping plaza and walked. edit: My DVD player doesn't work. Well, it turned on, but it wouldn't recognize that there was a disc in it. This is a good place to find treasures! It's not the biggest but they have a good selection and variety and lots of new stuff in packages! A lot of the stuff you could tell was from Target, kitchen stuff, clothes etc. so better than just finding used things. They also had a big section for Halloween shopping. I got a brand new flask for $1.99, barely worn shoes for $6.99 and a neon shirt for an 80's party for $3.00, score! I'd give it another store if it was bigger or had books. But def worth checking out, especially if you need electronics, when I went there were brand new items: hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons,radios, tv and stereo cords, phone chargers, fans, toasters etc. read more

I was looking forward to shopping here until a lady with short blond /grey hair that works there who seemed unhappy was mean to my kids . I needed both carts and she took them away from them . The aisles are narrow and hard to maneuver with cart. There is only room for I person in each aisle . Very overwhelming . I will not visit this Goodwill ever again . read more

I was just in the store and I noticed the disable people that work for goodwill taking the tag sales in the back (for instance they would take all the blue tags and take them in the back and only leave just a few tags in the store) so no one can buy the sale tags, that is some messed up stuff I'm about to write to corporate and tell them they are scandaling the customers with sales. This review is for the donation experience. My neighbor told me she tried to drop off a chair and they wouldn't take it so I looked on website and read reviews before taking a twin bed frame. Even though it says they take furniture they don't. The men seemed irritated that I was bothering them with my unacceptable donation. Amazing selection and the employees work very hard, they keep it so clean and organized despite the fact that is really big and busy. The customer service at this location is so good and I always have a good experience. My only complaints are more general Goodwill-as a company complaints: one, your pricing is insane, what you're charging for items is unbelievable considering you get this shit donated. Maybe you need to use some of that money you're overcharging to hire enough donation staff to check the items more throughly--6/10 light colored items have obvious stains somewhere so inspect carefully people! So for example all Men's & Women's black suits would be in 1 section mixed together randomly. It is a huge waste of time to try to find any clothing item now. This has become my least favorite place to thrift in the area. For a while, I was going a lot because their shoe prices were really good for a few months but they hiked them back up to higher than before. You can still find good things here, but it's honestly a struggle to find enough good things to justify actually spending the time to sift through the store. I use to walk out with a cart-full but now I usually pick up just a few items. If I want a basic t-shirt, I can hit up the swapmeet guy that sells used clothes for $1, or I can go to Salvation Army since they have actual real sales and find one for $2, instead of paying $6 at Goodwill. If you ever go to this Goodwill, notice how there is almost never any sales color tagged items on the rack. They don't even give you the chance to find them before they start pulling them. I honestly wonder what the heck the upper management is thinking with this weird sales tactic of offering 50% off a certain color but not giving customers a decent shot of actually finding sales items. Also, they recently started stocking "new" beauty and health items & I can find the same or similar items cheaper at the Grocery Outlet across the street. Bonus: the items at Grocery Outlet aren't usually damaged or expired. They literally had expired pregnancy tests for sale for $13! I'm probably going to go to this Goodwill even less now. My budget is too tight and the money I allot for clothes gets better mileage elsewhere. read more

I donated several bags of clean, folded, perfect condition and high quality baby clothing. A man working here took it and tossed it into a filthy bin. I have no idea what happened to these items I had taken time and care to wash and sort and giveaway as a donation. I was too shocked to say anything about it. I did however ask him if he knew where I could recycle some other clothing items I decided were not good enough to donate. He looked at me blankly and said "Just chuck it in the trash." Err no dude- that is not great for the environment. I later learned some goodwill locations do indeed accept clothing for recycling. I ended up taking them to H & M who have a recycle program. I would never go back to this location and I wish I had given all those clean baby clothes directly to someone instead of taking them here. read more

This review is purely from the prospective of a donator. I have not shopped inside this store, yet. We are preparing to put our house on the market, which is a great time to start getting rid of stuff. The drop off center here is a breeze. The parking lot has a u-shaped driveway so you pull in, drop off your stuff (they have plenty of people to help you), get a receipt if you want, and just like that--one man's trash is another man's treasure. This is not Target, but you do get Target stuff from here. Kids or adults underwear/socks or household item, they might be open packages or broken boxes but there are money to save. They mark all the "new" item with pink tag. Yes, easy to spot. Like today, there are 50% off on all pink tags. They use color tags. Every Friday, they will have a new color for 50% off. Yes, over there might be a mad house. A lot of bargain hunter will be there. I have been avoid to do that for a while. Had enough clothing, and I think the price are getting high on used cloth here. But I will look for kitchen ware or other household items. Last time I had a double wall Starbucks stainless steel to-go cup for less then $5.00. It last for ever. Best found was a brand new Soniccare toothbrush set for $12.00 with a bonus water pick thing. It's good, when you have little time just to browsing a little , and treat it as a treasure hunt.
