A young woman with short brown hair and glasses on her head is standing indoors in a thrift store. She is wearing a gray Christmas sweater with a large Darth Vader graphic, a Santa hat, and the text 'I find your lack of Christmas disturbing.' She is also wearing ripped jeans and black shoes. Clothing racks and a wooden chair are visible in the background.

I asked my niece and nephew if I could take them shopping for Christmas. They said yes - thrifting! They found a highly rated place in Berkeley on Shattuck but it was a Friday night and the parking there sucks. Plus we had dinner plans at Zachary's on Solano. So - compromise... we went to the Albany Goodwill on San Pablo. They were finding armloads of clothes and everything was super inexpensive. Pictures attached are the two sweaters I would not buy my niece because I knew her mother would kill me. My nephew found a cute pink striped cardigan, a Stanford sweatshirt (because we're a Cal Berkeley family and he thought it was hilarious), some authentic looking striped Adidas and a variety of more shirts and tops. My niece couldn't find any good cargo pants but got a ton of other stuff. Including her favorite find, a crew neck sweatshirt that said "Kelly is my lawyer." I'm glad the kids have their Aunt Kris's obscure sense of humor! I even found a delightful $10 Ugly Christmas Sweater to wear to my company holiday party. Service here was just fine, we didn't experience any of the negativity that others did. I'm so happy that teens today love to thrift. It was something my friends and I did heavily in high school and college because we were poor. They do it because it's cool.

Rudest Employee at Goodwill!
Regina E.

BEHOLD THE RUDEST EMPLOYEE AT GOODWELL!!!! JOSEPH First of all: HIGHEST PRICES of most Goodwill stores I have seen. Fine... I like charity. He did not offer a bag or to wrap my breakable items before he took my card & checked me out. I asked for a bag, and he said it was 10 cents. Fine. As I was looking for my 10 cents, I commented that he must have a rough day based on the rude way he was talking to EVERYONE. He then kicked me out as I was frantically looking for 10 cents. Finally, another woman gave him a quarter and said she was appalled as to how she was talking to me and decided not to buy an ENTIRE CART worth of goods because he was so awful. He refused to give me his name, but the receipt said Joseph. BRO. IF YOU HATE YOUR JOB- GO WORK SOMEWHERE ELSE. I wasn't rude. He was literally fighting with another customer and took it out on me who couldn't find a dime in time. Kicked me out of the store. Our interaction was maybe 3 minutes long.

Great housewares - A clear glass jar filled with green foil-wrapped objects, with a white label reading "Blessed," is positioned on a metal store shelf. The background shows various household items, including a large decorative bowl, vases, and other containers, indicating a retail or thrift store setting. The image is slightly out of focus and taken indoors with natural light coming through windows.
Hey It's M.

Recently redone and much better! Many small houseware items, and great shoes. Brand name (New Balance, Nike) shoes are frequent and good quality.

Note different prices on lids that Joseph said were always $10 after charging me that for one not priced separately. - The image shows a metal rack holding various kitchenware items, including two large silver serving trays with ornate edges, a small round tray, and a silver ladle. Additional kitchen tools such as a black egg mold and a spatula are also visible. The items are arranged on a wire shelving unit, with other kitchen accessories and containers nearby, indicating a thrift or secondhand store setting.

I have been here four times and walked out empty handed. Inventory items feel very worn and old. Prices are too high.

Best Goodwill for donating. Long hours and nice staff to help unload. The selection inside is small but pretty good.

Ask the Community - Goodwill

Do you still give receipts for taxable donations?

No but for small fee yes.

I heard that the Albany store and Berkeley store are closing, are they still opened? If so when is their closing dates?

Albany store is definitely closed. I'm fairly certain that the Berkeley store (on University Avenue) is also closed.

I decided to check what they had here, plus I wanted to let Lisa know what had caused the problem w/ my hatch. I drove down after a late lunch, parked nearby on San Pablo and walked over to the store. When I walked in Lisa was behind the counter. I watched her interacting w/ customers, obviously regulars, as she addressed them by name. She is so warm and sweet! I asked her where the silverware was and she told me. I told her that the problem had been the battery. She was concerned that the car might have broken down somewhere and I reassured her there was enough juice to run the car but not enough to raise the hatch. I went over to where the silverware was and found three nice spoons. She told me they were $1.25 each, which is a great price. I didn't look around the store but saw several things that appealed to me which I didn't need and didn't buy. When I got to the counter to pay she was going to charge me $3.75, then remembered they were having a store wide sale to clear stuff before the Holidays and that the cost was going to be $2.25, beyond reasonable! I brought them home and put them in the dishwasher. They will serve me well.

There is a little something for everyone here. And an awesome place for gifts. I met Susan at a local gem show in Santa Rosa at her Lucky Handicraft booth. I can not imagine doing business with anyone else and knew that I must see her 2 stores. Go full or pack snacks because this can be an all day event. Thankfully they have a bathroom for you to use. Susan has always been so generous with me. She is very patient with me and I really like her as a person. The other staff members are very helpful. They do an excellent job of packing up your order and handling it with care. From pocket rocks to statement pieces this store has it all and it's easy to go nuts in here. I can't wait to come back. This place is a must
