In some cases this is great if you're sick, but can adversely affect the current appointments for that day For me, it's more important to find a doctor who will prescribe needed orders and medications than wait times. So I've just managed expectations on that front. I understand some others may feel different.

There was urine in a cup sitting on the counter. Back in the waiting area I was asked for my Driver's License so they could copy it. I reminded them I was self-pay, so there was no need for my Driver's License. (I've been told insurance companies require doctor offices to be able to prove a patient's identity). Person: It's the law. Me: It's a law that I have to give a doctor's office my driver's license? Person: Yes, it's the law. We have to verify your identity. Me: I told you who I was. Person: We need to verify it. Me: None of my four other doctors have required my driver's license. Person: That's our protocol. Me: So is it a law? Person: It's our protocol. Me: I'm confused, is it a law? Person: I don't know. Me: I'm not comfortable giving my social security number or a copy of my driver's license when it's not needed. The fewer times I provide that information, the less my chances of identity theft. Plus, I will pay my bill in full before leaving. Person: It's our rule.
