Not so sure why They have such good reviews or why it was recommended to me for bbq. However this is my second time giving this restaurant a try after years. (The first time was a super fail because I had ordered beef ribs that were literally mostly bone and no meat. I slightly recall them not having the best of customer service either, but agin that was years ago!) So I was really craving some beef brisket and decided to order the beef brisket on plate through Doordash. One for myself with mac n cheese, coleslaw and cornbread on the side. My mom also ordered the beef brisket with okra, mashed potatoes and wheat bread on the side. What i received was not that AT ALL. These people seem Careless and Inconsistent. What we received was a few pieces of brisket on a sandwich bun, my mac and my coleslaw and moms mashed potatoes . Oh and her extra "wheat bread". The brisket was ok. The bbq sauce was ok, reminded me of Montgomery inns bbq sauce. The mac n cheese was DISGUSTING.(and thats pretty bad coming from a long standing soul food restaurant). The coleslaw was average. Moms mashed potatoes tasted like instant box potatoes (her words) Nothing spectacular. Mom didn't get her okra and was not notified that they were not sending it/out of/needed to be replaced or ANYTHING!!! Id suggest this biz get on top of things and pay attention to detail. The atmosphere is older but has been remodeled. There aren't many people eating inside so it's strongly encouraged to get the good to go. There are many options on the menu but everything needs to be bought separately. Because of that your meal can get quite expensive. As for the quality, the food is average. The ribs don't have a lot of meat but the sauce definitely helps. The side items are quite good, I had the yams and they reminded me of real southern cooking. If you are really craving bbq it's worth the stop in, but I would recommend traveling to Eli's if you have time. read more

Really good barbecue place for our family lunch. It was 2pm Saturday Black Friday weekend, and we got a hankering for BBQ . They hooked us up. For 5 adults, we got large ribtips, large beef ribs, catfish, small chicken thigh; large sides of macaroni (which is homemade mac n cheese), yams, okra (fried), green beans; and medium collard greens and coleslaw, about $90. The catfish (cornbread crust) was everyone's favorite (surprise! We usually don't like fish). Coleslaw so fresh, nice balanced sauce, not too much vinegar or mayo. Collard greens v nice, not bitter. Rib tips so good... more meat on beef ribs. They smoked turkeys for three families this past thanksgiving. We'll use them to cater family parties in the future. I've lived about two blocks away from Goodies for a couple years and apologize to myself and them that I've never tried it before today. I went for the first time and was blown away! The employees I talked to were AMAZING. They made doubly sure my order was right, gave me their recommendations, and were so welcoming, courteous, and nice. On top of that, the restaurant interior looked great, I loved the music, and it smelled delicious. I told my wife that even if the food was bad, I would consider coming back. Of course the food was NOT bad--it was delicious! I got a pork sandwich and a brisket sandwich with their sauce, a total of four sides, and two pieces of bread--all for a surprisingly reasonable price. All of it was delicious, especially the brisket, okra, and collard greens. If you're in Mt. Healthy and haven't tried Goodies, don't wait like I did--check it out! This little neighborhood joint is the real deal. All the locals come here for good food and familiar faces. Just like a scene from a movie, people walk in and talk to each other like they've known each other for years. And maybe they do. It definitely gives you a sense that this place is a staple in this community. It's not the nicest spot or trendy by any means . More like a well worn sweater or reliable tool you keep around because "they just don't make them like they use to." I would say that Goodies has that feel to it. Warm, friendly and worn. But it works. Ok, so let's talk about the food. We had the rib tips, which was recommended by the waiter. He assured us that the portions were generous. He wasn't kidding. The "Middle plate" ribs dinner I ordered wasn't bad, but the barbecue sauce really was the very best thing on the plate. It was served in a cup on the side while the ribs were not hot on delivery (used DoorDash) and were served without sauce on them. The baked beans were very good too, but were not hot and that small cup they were served in was definitely not a serving, but more like a tablespoon full, if that! The sweet bread was ok, but cold too and the coleslaw was nothing to write home about...and the banana pudding was just that, banana flavored pudding with vanilla wafers in it, but no bananas! Man I really wish I could have given that 5th star. The skinny: I got the half rack with mild sauce, mac n' cheese, mashed potatoes, and sweet bread. The sides: fire. Straight fire. I'm talkin slap yo mama good. The mac n' cheese was super creamy and super cheesy. The mashed potatoes, unbelievably good. Best I've ever had hands down. The sweet bread: just right. Perfectly moist, not to the point of being greasy, but not crumbly. Just perfect. The ribs: kind of a let down. The flavor was good, but man it was dried out. I was picking pieces out of my mouth thinking I had bone shards but it was just dried out meat. Now this was at 7:30 or 8:00 in the evening so I'd be interested to see how that same rack of ribs looks like early on in the afternoon. Feels like they got the meat out, put the rub on, and then left it on the smoker overnight. The smoke flavor was different. Not bad, just not what I'm used to. Almost tasted like pine instead of your typical hickory or mesquite. I will say the sauce brought it back to life a bit. The ribs by themselves weren't the greatest, but paired very nicely with the sauce. That was my first go round with this style of sauce. Definitely more southern/vinegar style than something like a KC or Memphis style sauce. I dig it. Will definitely be back for the brisket. read more

Thank goodness Goodies 'rides again'. This Mt. Healthy location is at least the fourth location I've followed Goodies to. While the original owner and maker of the sauce has retired to Florida, his son (stepson) is really going out of his way to continue and improve the tradition. Service has improved, place is clean, with tablecloths, banquettes, table service with a staff that seems to care. And the food? : the tips are to die for, the pulled pork I could eat til I burst, the brisket is great if you can get past the pork. Other reviews have mentioned the meat being dry: while that's true, the great taste layers they're building over the open fire make the dryness easy for me to tolerate. The sauce (hot) is not very hot to me and I just love the enjoy it while I'm juicing up the meat. The sides, esp. the red beans and the greens are killer. Don't forget the peach cobbler! read more
