After spending over $500 for the visit, I had a few simple questions regarding the breakdown of costs. Instead of receiving professional assistance, I was met with extreme rudeness by the front desk staff member, Yadira H. ​She was incredibly condescending, actually raising her voice and repeating the same lines over and over in a robotic fashion rather than engaging with my questions. It was shocking to be treated with such hostility as a paying customer--and more importantly, as a parent--simply for wanting to understand the billing. ​It has been several days and I am still bothered by how we were treated. Professionalism and basic courtesy seem to be missing at the front desk. We will never return to this practice, and I highly recommend taking your business elsewhere if you value being treated with respect.

I had cataract surgery about a year ago. Within 6 months, I had to set aside a couple of books because I could no longer read the small print. At the time, I just thought that I needed stronger reading glasses. Over the next 6 months, I noticed a decline in distance-vision. So I came in for an exam and found out the problem. About 30% of patients who have had cataract surgery experience a return of the symptoms. Blame it on your immune system: healing cells conglomerate at the back of the capsule holding the new lens, clouding it and preventing light from going to your optic nerve (I think). While this sounds scary, the fix is so simple. Dr. Helm used his laser to blast away the membrane formed by the healing cells. It took about two minutes per eye. No sedation, no surgery, zero pain sensations, and you can drive yourself home. Piece of cake. Like everything else at Helm Vision, the process was competently managed by the staff, and you end up sitting across from Dr. Helm who is forever cheerful, calm and reassuring. You rest your chin on the same kind of apparatus for your eye exams, only this one has a laser. Those books I had set aside? I can now read that small print without any difficulty. At around 2:48ish they called and left a message on my voice mail which said I was late but they could get me in at 3:00. I was parking at that moment in their lot and instead of calling back which would have slowed me down I walked into their waiting room only 3 or 4 minutes after they left the message on my phone saying they had a 3:00 for me well before that 3:00. The woman at the front desk said that they had given my 2:40 to another person. They had also given my 3:00 to another customer because the people at the front desk were not talking to one another so she did not know someone else had told me 3:00 was good. I said "not a problem, I will come another day". She said that since I had been late for an appointment in the past which they had forgiven I would need to pay them $40 to schedule another appointment. She said it in a way like it was to teach me a lesson? I spoke to her a few times about this and it was like she had turned off her listening. I said that I was there at least 5 minutes before the time they had switched me to. She said that internally they had bad communication about that (my fault?). I also said you gave both my times to other customers who paid you for both those times. So you are asking a long time customer that has paid you thousands of dollars to pay you for time you gave to someone else and were paid for so you could double bill the time? She wasn't listening. I gave them 2 stars instead of one because they are only going to charge me the $40 if I book another time. If I never go back to them they are letting it go.

She is a true professional that won't settle for things to be just ok. Because of her efforts I can see clearly. I struggled with my office monitors and suffered from tired eyes. Every time, I had to explain why I was there and why my contact lenses weren't working for me. Better communication between providers, or simply being able to see the same doctor consistently, would have made a significant difference. My final appointment was especially disappointing. After explaining that the trial contact lenses were still not working for me, the doctor looked at me and said, "Well, there's nothing I can do about that." As a patient seeking help, that response was discouraging and unprofessional. I left feeling like my concerns were dismissed rather than taken seriously. I chose this office because of its high ratings, but my experience did not reflect the level of customer service or patient care I expected. I hope this feedback encourages improvements in communication, continuity of care, and how patients are treated.
