I selected this spot bc I wanted to support a local Black Owned Business. To say I was Incredibly disappointed in the customer service, is a massive understatement. The lack of information when I asked about the dishes; The inability to provide a menu; The food I was given was ICE COLD and 90% rice, mashed potato (or yucca?); There was a piece of chicken in the chicken dish; ONE piece of meat (not sure if it was beef or goat or oxtail meat). Vegetables were non existent. Hardly any onions, cabbage or carrots. This was literally a 'throw away meal'. No care was put into the meal in ANY WAY. What really rubbed me the wrong way was there was a rack of Jamaican patties right by the window. I assumed that I would receive at least two Jamaican patties (since I ordered two meals). I didn't get ONE patty. Instead, I got whatever was in the refrigerator. Nothing was warm. Maybe things will change after I taste the food, but I didn't feel like warming it up. We'll see. UPDATE: Nope! Heating these dishes only proved that the dishes were either incredibly bland or super spicy/ hot. Wasted money. Wasted time. Wasted experience.

I've tried dozens of Jamaican spots in town but Ms. Rose's kitchen takes the #1 spot for me in Baltimore. The Jerk Chicken entree is always fresh, piping hot and heavy! The sauce has a nice tang while delivering a very prominent ghost pepper note - it's addicting. Please don't be caught off guard - this is spicy. I can only assume their family like it spicy. The chicken is seasoned very well but never salty, it's always super tender and juicy. Unlike other Jamaican spots, I haven't really bitten into any bone fragments, which means the chef is using a very sharp cleaver. While I'm not a big fan of other rice and beans, Ms. Rose's has a very pleasant and savory yet gentle coconut flavor. The rice is always tender and scrumptious and light. The steamed cabbage is buttery and tender, it wasn't hastily put together, they really put thought into every component. Jamaican Kitchen Ms. Rose is located conveniently on Fayette St so all you Butcher's Hill/Fells Point/Canton/Highlandtown folks need to give this place a try on your way home. The girl who takes your older is very detail oriented - she remembered what I like on the second day. Seems like they make everything to order and super fresh so if you catch them busy I recommend just being patient they will take care of you. Looking forward to trying their other offerings.

Let's start with the good. Upon arrival we were greeted by the male cook and a younger female. They…read morewere nice and didn't rush us to make a choice. They answered questions and explained that the menu is as is with customizations changing the price slightly. I asked the man if I was allowed to change anything on my tacos because my dad isn't the hugest fan of cilantro or onion and the tacos only come with those toppings in addition to radish and cucumber (which he also doesn't care for). The man told me he would be able to customize it to my liking I would just have the let the younger girl know when she's ready. There was another girl at the cashier which is told the order by the workers in addition to my self so everyone is on the same page. The menu was rather large with plenty of options but I order a few of their items which were the street tacos (Steak, Ground Beef, Chicken), a steak quesadilla and al pastor enchiladas. The set up was Chipotle style so that's an added reason as to why I would think it's okay to customize my meal the way I want. But when I get to the cashier with the heavier set girl she had nothing but ATTITUDE with myself and my mother. At first I thought it was because I was darker skinned. The cashier was noticeably nicer, more warm and helpful towards all the white and the lighter skinned hispanic customers but with me it was a short tone, hesitation or she just flat out ignored me until she acknowledged me. Then on top of that, she had an attitude because she kept saying I couldn't customize my meal after we had already paid even though the younger girl ASKED me what I wanted on my food. So why is it that now my food is paid for I can't even get it the way I want? That's lowkey stealing because had I known I couldn't even get any of my meals customized to my liking I wouldn't have even spent my money. Furthermore I'm Puerto Rican, I speak Spanish and my mother speaks Spanish so I thought maybe if we showed the girl we have communality ( same language) she would provide better service but nope she just doubled down on the stores "policy" even though the male cook and the younger girl told me I could customize it. Then to add fuel to the fire, the food wasn't even flavorful. NONE of it was. So not only was the cashier rude, condescending, and created an overall unpleasant experience. The food was completely bland. Even the Pico was missing that classic pico taste. Nothing was overcooked, everything was cooked to temperature but every single meal was reported as bland and tasteless from each person in my group. Extremely disappointing.

I got their tacos al pastor and I absolutely loved them (maybe you can tell by the picture of my half eaten plate) - the meat was tender and juicy, the tortillas were soft but not falling apart, and their red sauce gave it a nice kick. I did also order the chips and salsa - the chips were great but the salsa wasn't the usual tomato "salsa" you get for chips which is the only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars. If I'm ever back in Baltimore you better bet I'm coming back here!
