It's been since 2018 that I stepped foot in this place. Food is always good. Was worried if there'd be a bit of a wait with timing and its a Sunday. It can go either way. Our server Hailey was very bubbly and welcoming from the start. She made sure we took our time to figure out what we all wanted. Took my dad out for early father's day lunch. We all got sweet tea. Husband went with the all you can eat chicken option. Which they do that on Wednesdays and Sundays. You can mix/match dark or white meat. You get all the sides. Dumplings, mashed potatoes, greenbeans, corn, coleslaw, and apple sauce. He was full and definitely enjoyed the chicken. My dad did the chicken meal 2 dinner with 2 sides. What a cute small town diner! Nothing fancy but boy, their food is top notch! We went on a Friday evening for their cod cut ups; small order is $11.49, large order $11.99. Three pieces of fish with the smaller order and 4 pieces for the large order. Nice selections of sides; stewed tomatoes were so delicious with bacon, green beans seasoned like grandma's!! Mac and cheese tasted homemade and was just a little dry. The smaller pieces of fish were dry and very crispy while the larger pieces were piping hot with delicious white meat. Located about two miles from I-64 along the main street (Hanover), the restaurant is easy to find. There is a sign out front and on the side of the building. Parking is along the side of the building in a gravel lot. The lot also opens behind the restaurant, and there would also be parking available on the side street. I think there was a handicapped space near the main road but everything was full when we arrived so we parked in the rear. The walk was not difficult. Be aware there are steps up into the restaurant as well as the bulk of the seating area. Walking in, you are in a smaller seating area with a hostess stand in the back. We were greeted as we walked in and were taken up a few steps into the larger main seating area. While the restaurant has certainly been around for a while, it was clean and the wait staff were constantly wiping tables or serving customers. Our waitress took our drink order as we were seated and returned quickly. We asked for a couple more minutes to look through the menu. They have most breakfast staples, and I was able to find my go-to item. My dining partner made their selection, and our food was brought to our table in about 10 minutes. My eggs were cooked as ordered, and the sausage was thoroughly cooked without being burned. The hash brown casserole was wonderful and is an excellent choice. The biscuits were hearty and seemed made for gravy, which was excellent. The side of pancakes was also very good as they were light and absorbed the syrup very well. My dining partner's omelet was large and filling, with fresh ingredients. The hash browns were the "brick" kind, obviously from frozen, and were the least favorite part of the meal. Once our food came and I tasted the first bite of chicken, I knew in that moment it was worth the 20 minute wait. It was just as advertised - tastes just like grandma's home cooking. The chicken had just the right amount of flavor with just the right amount of crisp and crunch. The rolls were fluffy light and freshly baked. The coleslaw was delectable and creamy with a hint of sweet. They have an array of desserts all which came highly recommended. With so many good options, it was hard to decide but we went with the brownie pie which had a graham cracker crust, fudge brownie filling topped with walnuts and drizzled with chocolate sauce. I love classic midwestern cafes, especially when they help to anchor historic towns, such as New Baden less than 30 minutes east of St Louis. We hit this place for a late Sunday breakfast. Smiles greeted; service was exceptional. Coffee just mediocre but that's the only negative. I recommend the crocks--country potatoes, eggs, sausage bits, gravy and cheese. Delish! Get the biscuits too. Many places claim to make great biscuits--this place does. Also grab a side of bacon--thick and well done, perfect in other words. The place is clearly a local institution. We are on a road trip and trying to eat local along the way. This is a hit. My Cuban panini was outstanding with smoked pork they obviously smoked. My wife's white fish sandwich was really good an a big portion of fish. Nice menu, local people. Fun. read more

I ordered a breakfast bowl that had veggies and American Fries, gravy, eggs, bacon and cheese. It tasted odd. I picked around and eat most of it when I realized the odd taste was raw sliced potatoes. I guess they were supposed to be American Fries. All the veggie were raw. Very gross taste with gravy and eggs. They are alway busy. Takes time to get a seat. More time to order drinks, then a long wait on food. One of those situations where you checking the time and wondering if they forget. I think that's their issue. When I tell you the people down here are amazing. My dad walked in and he was itching he's arms and a man in the corner said "there's some hand sanitizer if ya need it" then we walked in and we where looking for my dad and the same guy smiled at us and said "he went up there" then a man behind us told us "ya wanna see somthe'n cool?" he took out a big cucumber and had a hugely smile on his face " he grows then in his backyard!!!" We haven't even ate yet but I can tell this will be awesome.
