We were passing through and decided to stop in a local spot instead of a chain. We were hoping for breakfast all day, but they stop serving breakfast at 11. DH got the chicken and dumplings which was one of the specials. He had the option of a large bowl of dumplings or a smaller bowl with 2 sides and he chose the large bowl. These looked very good and homemade. He didn't leave any behind. I ordered the BLT (hold the lettuce) that came with chips. It had plenty of bacon, which was a plus, but could have used a bit more mayo -- of course, that's a personal preference. I had chocolate pie for dessert and it was delish! Do not get any of the pasta's on the menu. I wish I would've taken a picture but I didn't think about it at the time. The shrimp pasta was very small and super expensive. It tasted like it came straight from a jar and not a good jar of sauce. My mom and I both got the shrimp pasta dish and we both could only take a couple of bites. These waitress saw we didn't eat the pasta and didn't ask if we liked it or if something was wrong. I think she knew that pasta wasn't good. Good portion sizes :) Got a double cheeseburger and it was cooked perfectly! Added fries, wasn't too sure due to the price for a side order, there was more than enough. The homemade pastas were anything but homemade. They were not even edible. Everything we got was bad to inedible. I have been here over the years and it has never been this bad. Not only was the food disgusting but the place was dirty and reeked of sewer. The food was priced as if it was gourmet.... When in fact, it was little more than slop. I rated one star.... Awesome! Just tripping thru the area and fortunately selected Pj's. The meal was outstanding - had special chicken salad on a croissant with a side salad (homemade ranch dressing). As an added bonus the decor is all memorabilia of baseball, football, racing, etc. So cool! read more

The service is outstanding. The waitresses were friendly and My coffee cup was never empty. The food is second to none. I had papas haystack (egg, sausage, hash browns, with biscuit and gravy. PJ's is a staple hometown diner. If you're from the area, it's impossible to walk in without seeing someone you know. I don't think I've been able to make it in the door without stopping to talk. We went there countless times as kids and our favorite thing to do was play eye spy. It will keep your kids entertained through the entire meal because there is so much to look at on every inch of the walls! We swung by here in between a wedding and the reception to grab a snack. Our grab had a slew of the menu. BBQ Chicken pizza was VERY good with great crust, toasted raviolli were average, tenderloin was good sized and breaded well. Hamburgers look good (I don't eat beef). Service was pretty good, nothing to write home about. Only complaint is, you pay at the front and we didn't know (out of towners), so waited a few minutes for the waitress to come back, then realized. Would go back, great small town diner. A great little small-town diner with an unreal amount of signed rock and roll memorabilia in the back room. Offhand I'd say the owners know EVERYONE in show business judging from the walls that are literally covered with signed celeb photos. The service was very friendly although the meatloaf special wasn't to my particular taste, it was certainly edible and the desserts were very nice with an enormous selection. The prices are very reasonable as well and the next time I am in Breese I am definitely eating here again. We had originally come to eat at another place that was closed so they definitely snoozed and lost! read more

Well we came here on Sunday morning, judging the by the crowd I figured it was a local favorite. Even though we were a group of 7 (plus a child), we were promptly seated. PJ's definitely has a feel of a southern Illinois diner; the walls are full of sports memorabilia and autographed pictures of famous people. The service was good, considering the size of our group and how busy they were. The food was average, the bacon was a bit crisp for my liking. Their biscuits with the sausage gravy was the highlight of the meal and I would definitely recommend it to anybody visiting. All in all, nothing really stood out, but given the location and sparse options, this is still a nice place to eat. I'll certainly be stopping by again when in the area. read more

This is my favorite place for lunch. Friendly service and lots of choices. I enjoy the specials that are always something different then usually. I have been going there for years. Don't know if they got a different cook,but the food today was terrible.Ordered the chicken and dumplings which have always been great, not today all the dumplings were stuck together,couldn't find the chicken hardly any liquid and absolutely no flavor.
