One of my absolute favorite Southern buffets on the Georgia Alabama border!!!!! Me and my cousins took a 2 hour foodie trip just to come eat here on a Sunday cuz I wanted Poppyseed Chicken sooooo bad! That and the Fried Green Tomatoes was our Top 2! When we first walked in the cashier was yelling at some man. Then she yelled out waaaay too loud about a lady not paying. Ultimate bitch vibes! But watevers about her.. The food is really good at this little buffet in Lagrange. We have visited it both trips up so far. You pay when you go in before you eat. Same lady as always behind the glass taking money. She is not the most friendly to anybody except regulars but the rest of the staff is really nice and the food is what we come back for. Stopped on a whim while we were in the area for a Dr appointment. Nice selection on the buffet, apparently some items change daily. Food was good, liked that it wasn't dozens and dozens of items so it was fresher and smaller batches. Not stuff sitting under heat lamps all day. Staff was great, very friendly and attentive. What a great little place. Buffet is small but has all you need. The price was only $9 and that included a drink. I feel like I was stealing their food. This is the BEST hidden gem in LaGrange! We found it several years ago when visiting and now make an 1 hour trip just to eat here. The Southern food is ALWAYS good. The collards are seasoned well, the rutabagas are delicious (I had never had them before eating here), fried chicken is cooked to perfection---moist and tender. All of the food on the hot bar is always consistent in taste. We have never been disappointed. The only improvement that I would suggest is the cold dessert bar, it is limited in selection and not very tasty---although the hot desserts are good. Ate here today for the first time through a recommendation from a coworker. I absolutely loved the food.. I ate till I was about to pop, and left feeling fine - unlike when I usually eat soul food. I had fried fish, fried green tomatoes, green beans, shrimp fried rice, some peach cobbler - and sampled a few other items which were all great. The food deserves a five rating but I can only give a four due to the unprofessional employee that we dealt with upon entering. From the moment we entered the door until we had finished paying and went to the buffet, the woman who took our payment was on the phone with someone using her bluetooth headset. She would talk to us and then to the person on the phone and then to us again. When she said something, it was somewhat difficult to tell which of us she was talking to. We don't live in LaGrange, but come especially to eat here. One day we were having coffee at the local Starbucks and asked one of the patrons where was a good Southern food restaurant in town. She said that she worked at a buffet restaurant, which we had frequented and were not impressed, but she recommended Good Ol Country Buffet and gave us directions. We have been coming here ever since. The food is delicious, just like a good Southern girl would cook at home---without the cooking and cleanup. The food is always hot and well seasoned. Since there are different foods available on different days, we choose our favorite days to come. I love fried chicken livers, so we visit often on Thursdays. The servers are all very attentive and personable, making sure our glasses are always full. We have only eaten here for lunch and try to get here by 11:30 because it is packed for lunch. The seating and parking are limited, so we recommend getting there early. If you haven't eaten here, we highly recommend that you try it, you won't be disappointed. read more
