Real real coke with lots of flavor (get the small the mediums are a bit large - but only $2 - not a price thing just 20 oz is medium ). Prices are from the 1960s - I don't think they've ever updated their on the wall menu. Great dog, fantastic burger. If I was on death row ( never ) my last meal would be 4 chilli cheese dogs with onion and one with mustard and a large coke and plain lays chips . If anyone asked me where the they serve the best hot dogs in the world I would say Charlie Joseph's. It was a beautiful day in LaGrange and there were great vibes radiating from the walk-up window of Charlie Joseph's. This is one of those places that you just *know* is going to be good as you approach. There were a good number of folks standing outside but no line to order. The menu is simple enough and we knew what we came for. We ordered two hot dogs and stepped back to wait for our food to be ready. Quickly enough, our number was called and we took our food up to the town square to enjoy. The hot dogs were really good, loaded with toppings and plenty hot. What a great place! We were in town for a quick overnight concert. Decided to grab a quick bite on the way out of town...super simple menu but it sure hit the spot! This place has been around a long time - since 1920 according to the sign. It was a nice cool day so we ordered outside and sat on a bench to eat. There is a counter and some tables inside so you could go in too! We had the slaw dawgs and a chicken salad sandwich with some chips and iced tea. The slaw on the hot dogs was perfect...slightly sweet but tangy and complimented the hot dog nicely. The chicken salad sandwich was sooooo yummy...extra sour pickles with just the right amount of mayo and chicken salad flavor....I seriously considered another sandwich when we finished. We stopped by Charlie Joseph's on a Saturday afternoon because my husband loves him some hot dogs! We are from out of town and we like to try places to eat that aren't your typical chain restaurants. You can order from a window out front or go inside to dine. We ordered from the outside window because it was such a pretty day so we wanted to take the food to go. Their chili dogs are very tasty. Plenty of chili and onions, just like we like it. Their cheeseburgers and hamburgers are small but very good. They use the small chopped onions on them, so if you're not an onion fan you can ask them to leave them off. We were happy with our lunch to go. Prices are good so you're not out a lot of cash for food. They've been in business since 1920, and five generations later, they are still kicking out the yummy hot dogs and burgers. We stopped here while we were in Lagrange for the day and I'm so glad we did. I love places with character and that are basically apart of the history of a town. They have been serving Lagrange since 1920 and it feels like you are stepping back into a simpler time when you walk in the door. The staff was really kind and welcoming. And the food was so great! A friend and I were hanging out in the area on a Saturday afternoon, and I was in the mood for a burger. Not knowing the area at all, I opened my trusty Yelp app and came across Charlie Joseph's. The four "5-star" reviews, including one from a fellow Elite Yelper, encouraged us to check it out. With its outdoor signage boasting "Worlds Best Hot Dogs Hamburgers," my friend and I excitedly walked into the little restaurant. The shop was PACKED. We were lucky to find two empty seats at the counter by the entrance, so we sat ourselves down immediately. Our server, who turned out to be the restaurant owner's son, Cody, saw us right away and asked us if he could get our drink order. I pretty much have to have a soda when I have a burger, so I ordered a Diet Coke from the fountain machine. For those who prefer it, they also serve Cokes in glass bottles. Then, we glanced up at the menu on the wall and were shocked. Why? The prices of the menu items were astonishing. $2.25 for a hot dog? $2.50 for a cheeseburger? The most expensive item on the menu was the largest size for Brunswick Stew, which was a mere $5.75. Amazing. I decided to order a Cheeseburger w/Chili (requested no onions), and my friend got the Cheeseburger. Although I normally like to get fries with my burger, they didn't offer fries on their menu. When I asked Cody about it, he said they have chips but not fries. Boo. I also asked if they had bacon (I was in the mood for a bacon cheeseburger!), but the answer was no. Apparently this place is keeping their tradition of selling burgers, hot dogs, etc. the way they did when they opened in 1920. Just a few minutes after ordering, out came our food. * Cheeseburger w/Chili ($2.75) - Perhaps I got a little too excited about the cheap price, not even considering the fact that perhaps it's cheap for a reason. The cheeseburger was small, as in smaller than a cheeseburger from McDonald's. And I hate to say it because the restaurant was so cute, but the burger was certainly nowhere NEAR the "best" that I've ever had. It was a decent burger, but I didn't think the beef patty was anything special, and there was such a thin layer of chili in the burger that I almost couldn't even tell it was in it. It tasted fine, but I felt that I could have made it myself on a George Foreman grill, and I was still hungry after eating one. Both my friend and I scarfed our little burgers down in less than 5 minutes, and we were still hungry. Not wanting to be a piggy, I told my friend that we should split a Cheese Dog w/Chili and ordered one. Similar to the burgers, the hot dog was served super fast. * Cheese Dog w/Chili ($2.75) - Like the burgers, the hot dog was also small. Okay, maybe not SMALL, but regular size that you can buy from the grocery store. The hot dog was topped with a thin layer of chili (again, could barely taste it), cheese, and some ketchup (no onions, per my request). We cut it in half and consumed each half in maybe three bites. Again, this tasted fine, but it wasn't something that I couldn't easily make myself. Overall, Charlie Joseph's gets 3 stars for its "OK," cheap eats, quick and friendly service, and cute atmosphere. This tiny restaurant makes you feel like you went back in time, and I really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, the food just didn't "WOW" me or my friend. Luckily for them, they seem to have many regulars and the place was still super busy as we were leaving. People were ordering from outside as well since they have a pick-up window and limited dining space. I probably won't return and wouldn't recommend the place to anyone looking for an amazing burger or hot dog in the area, but it is a super adorable little place and I wish them the best. I grabbed some nourishment while on lunch with a co-worker. The atmosphere is welcoming by the employees coupled with the nostalgic feel of Pop Tates diner from the comic book The Archies and coca- cola memorabilia that will have you thinking, " a coke and a smile" circa 1979!
