Great cute little place in Hampden. It feels like syndromes cozy living room when you walk in. They sell drinks (bottles), tea leaves and coffee beans to go. They also have a tiny bit mighty menu! I had the coffee and cream toast. It is served on a thick piece of airy brioche. You can taste a hint of floral but also a bit of bitterness from the coffee. A very well balanced flavor combo! This place is exactly what Baltimore needs! A coffee shop that's way more than that! Good neighbor gives off Soho vibes mixed with the calmness of a local Napa coffee shop. The staff are beyond friendly and informative. They have a variety of options from Unique coffee options, teas that will have your tastebuds tingling and tasty pastries. Good neighbor has all one could ask for. They also have great trinkets one has to have! The rose almond lotion is a fav of mine! I am not a huge coffee drinker but I did really enjoy the cold lavender and earl grey tea that was slightly sweetened! It's very refreshing for these warm summer months. An easy stroll from 36th or Woodberry, good neighbor was such joy this morning! Had the upper tier, actually all of outside, all to myself! (Can't dine inside yet.) Really enjoyed the egg and cheese with bacon (extra) on sourdough (or everything-croissant) and house blend coffee. But truly, being able to enjoy the morning sun in the shade of relative quiet with no one around was priceless--quiet frankly, I almost didn't go back to work-at-home. The levels of wooden deck (plus plant shop open certain days at the top) in the city is a real treat. Additional note: good neighbor also has scads of food, kitchen, and condiment items, including magazines, cards, tableware, and more. This is more a review for the overall place - the Good Neighbor, their backyard, and the Greenhouse. I came here a couple weeks ago when it was warmer outside and it was so so nice! The coffee is good, I didn't love my food but it wasn't bad either (and it seems like overall people do like the food), and of course the whole set up was really cozy. I sat in the upper part of the back yard on the bench in the pictures and it was so serene! It's nice sometimes to just sit in the sun next to some flowers. After eating, I got totally carried away with the Greenhouse... ended up spending $26 on dried flowers, which was a little much for me, but overall the experience of picking out your own stuff and putting it together made the purchase worth it. I hope that one day we'll be allowed to sit inside again because the interior was really cute too. Good Neighbor also sells some pottery, books, and other items, which adds to the overall feel. I am rarely in a position to spend ~$9 on a piece of toast. The one I got was good, it had apples and some kind of struesal on top...just seemed like a lot of money for a piece of toast. Some toasts were $4 then it more than doubled up to $10 for some of them. Got a macchiato to drink and that was good. Aside from their selection of beverages, toasts, and baked goods, they also offer several racks full of appealing pottery (plates, bowls, vases, etc), and some comfortable places to sit. We had a mocha latte and black coffee, both of which were good. We loved their black butter toast (with vinegar) on a thick buttery brioche. The everything flavored croissant from Maillard Pastries was a lot denser than I would expect a croissant to be but still very tasty. We took everything to the Cylburn Arboretum a short drive away and had ourselves a little picnic! I'm just gonna say it. This place is super cute. Love the outdoor space. Love the ambiance..But the staff member I ordered from was not well versed in coffee culture. They guy taking my order literally knew nothing about coffee. And basically got the order totally wrong. Not to mention this place is not inexpensive. Then I had to wait about 10-15 minutes before my drink was even called. Not sure what was going on but the place wasn't even incredibly busy on a Sunday morning. came here the other day for their coffee shop bc It was recommended by a few friends as a good place to get some work done. The menu was limited but the coffee was fairly priced (for a small business I was expecting something higher). The incense was just way to aggressive. They had multiple going on and the room is not big enough to need more than one. (Incense are a part of my culture so yes I feel I can comment on that. The music was also extremely loud I couldn't hear my boyfriend at all who was sitting a foot away from me. I mean they have coffee and good hipster art books BUT...the coffee is odd tasting. I get iced lattes mainly from every coffee shop I'm in. I was so disappointed not only in the taste of the coffee but also the fact that my first time in I bought a pricy bag of coffee as a gift and it smelled weirder than the coffee served and they wouldn't let me return it or exchange it. There was no customer comes first feeling at all more like 'sorry can't help you.' The fact they wouldn't take the coffee back or even offer a discount or something made me kinda over the place from the start. I decided to give it a go again now a year later or more. Same weird espresso taste and with the tip suggestion it came to $10! for a latte. I mean if this place was in NYC fair but this is Hampden in Baltimore. Plus the sales girl was kinda rude again especially for a laid back hipster vibe and employees kinda just standing around and hanging out she was kinda uptight with me for no reason. For good coffee and a few dollars less Artifact is a zillion times better coffee and right down the road. I decided to go back today because it was nearby and I love coffee and art books so I wanna like it more than I do. I really didn't wanna give um $10 again for weird tasting coffee but I raced there between appointments only to learn in small print on their menu that their espresso machine was down. I got an iced coffee instead which came to $6 with a tip..the cost of a latte really elsewhere. Their regular coffee had an odd taste as well. It's like very berry leaning or something. It made me grouchy to pay so much for it and force myself to sip it like medicine bc no matter what free creamers or sugars I kept adding to it nothing would dilute the weird taste. Plus it made me jittery high. Maybe this was a fluke their espresso machine was down but you're a coffee shop and your espresso machine breaks mid day the time I happened to give the place a 3rd chance over a 2 year period. If you wanna read art books for free then this is a good spot but otherwise go elsewhere. I dunno about their food, hotel or greenhouse..maybe those are ok. Again judging mainly off the coffee alone.. it has a weird taste and is way overpriced and their customer service is kinda 'we don't care.' Good neighbor is a very hip, gourmet coffee shop that also sells simple but aesthetically pleasing stoneware dishes among other things. When you walk in, it feels like you are walking into an architectural firm or a design studio. All of the decor is carefully thought out to make the place feel comfortable but also cool. There's tons of plants everywhere, which they used to sell in the store but now they have built a separate plant store up the hill (which is equally great). And the coffee is also very hip with craft pour overs and lots of specialty drinks. I always end up getting whatever seasonal version they have of an espresso on iced seltzer water. It's usually the Allie Americano, but sometimes they have a fall version. Not a conventional drink but it's so good, especially since I'm a sucker for seltzer! This time I tried their food for the first time and it was absolutely delicious! I got the sweet sunset, and it was sweet but not overwhelmingly so. I'm excited to try other things on the menu. Now most places like this end up being really pretentious and not friendly (I'm looking at you ceremony and DoGood), but every time I go in here, the staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. I love their expanded outdoor space too! It's beautiful and there's tons of seating and shade! The last thing to address are the prices. It is a bit of a bougie cafe, so you are going to pay more but the drinks are good, fresh, creative, the ambiance is lovely, and the service is great. The drinks and food were great! I got the Japanese iced coffee as well as iced roasted matcha ( there's a name for it but I don't remember). Both had great flavors and very smooth as well. So their coffee game is strong, however their customer service skills are lacking. For the first order, I got the iced matcha and shroom naan! I received the drink in about 7 minutes which is reasonable but the food, I did not receive. I gave them the benefit of the doubt so waited about 35 minutes before I said anything. Yes, it was busy but I noticed the people after me getting their foods. So I finally went up to the counter after about 35 minutes to find out what the hold up was. They didn't have a clue so I had to explain to them. There was no apology, nothing. There was no sense of urgency whatsoever so I had to wait another 10 minutes. Well to start there's a dog dish outside, so instantly made stopping on a dog walk a bit more convenient. The pups were very appreciative. If you haven't been inside, you are missing out. Very modern. Clean lines. Cute wares. This has dates 1-3 written all over it. Flattering lighting and so cute inside, it makes for a very picturesque inta-backdrop. The staff is very friendly and speedy. The coffee is some of my favorite in town. I just got an espresso, but it's so smooth and beautifully brewed. There are a lot of rotating toasts. I love that the menu is seasonal, because as a creature of habit, it forces me to try something new every once in a while. The lox toast with the aged poppy seeds was very interesting. I think personally it was not my favorite, but I'd say five stars because it was exactly as advertised . The only issue I had was there were so many flavors going on that it kind of hid the flavor of the lox. For me personally I want the lox at the forefront and anything else to be a compliment. Overall though I'd say it's tied with Sophomore Coffee with my favorite cafes in Baltimore City. They also have really camped up their outdoor seating area and have even held markets and shows there on the weekend. Love the creativity and neighborhood involvement of this location. I have been here twice so far and I really love it! The atmosphere is pretty fun. Well lit, a bit busy though. The only reason for 4 stars is because it can be a bit challenging finding a seat if busy. So far I have tried a Japanese style iced coffee and the chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad sandwich was delish! It was a surprise with delicious roasted pulled chicken that had a curry flavor! Yum! Today I tried the rose cardamom latte iced with oat milk (made in house flavoring/syrup). Delicious! I am drinking it as I write this review. This drink in fact made me want to post a review. The cardamom notes are subtle with a hint of floral notes from the rose, but there's just enough of an espresso flavor to make a distinction between tea and coffee if that makes sense. Great outdoor space for family and friends. Street parking but not around a busy area so pretty easy to find parking. Coffee is not great and took us 30 minutes to get our order. We had a toddler who had an allergic reaction to something there in the cafe and while the lady who served us was prompt in alerting the manager, there was no and poor follow up. We thought it was from the scone and was told to call the kneads bread company ourselves. The lady said if we called, they would know but I had to call multiple times to get through to someone and they didn't even know who I was or the circumstances surrounding the event. When I finally got the ingredient list, there was nothing that my toddler was allergic to, and we spoke to her pediatrician a few times, and concluded it may be the napkins they use. I wanted to email the owner to let them know how poorly this is managed by the team, and especially the manager, however, I haven't had the chance or the energy to do so. I'm hoping that the staff is properly trained in such circumstances. Additionally, the bakery also did tell me that there may be cross contamination with peanut or nut products from where the bakery items are manufactured. However, the cafe had not properly labeled this. Regardless, please have an ingredients list for goodness sake for people that may have a severe allergy. read more

Their shop selection has such unique items, great for if you are looking for a special gift for someone! Also, many of the items inside seemed to be sourced by local artists or small businesses (love that!) They had incense lit that filled the shop with an inviting aroma, complimented by the warm and familiar smell of coffee and toasts/pastries. I tried the matcha latte which was great and my friend tried the lavender latte. Even for someone who wasn't too fond of lavender, we both agreed that it was amazing! Aside from their drinks, their toast is bomb dot com. They have sweet and savory toast options, but we both tried the savory. I had the spiced chickpea toast, and my friend tried the caprese toast. Easily at the top of my favorite spots for coffee now! This spot is super cute, and the inside is just delightful to browse and look around at while you wait for your coffee. The staff are also so nice! They took the time to describe the different coffees and espressos (because I'm a coffee snob and love to talk about the tastes, different washing methods, etc), and you can tell that they're passionate about coffee as well. I went with a latte with oat milk, and my friend went with a "Winter Romance" which was essentially a peppermint mocha. Both were really good. Absolutely beautiful place, love the aesthetic home decor they sell in combination with the beautiful presentation of their menu items! In addition the outdoor seating is spacious and ample, I wish I got to visit the mini greenhouse that was located there. The seasonal toast with figs on top was perfect, not too sweet and had a nice crunch. I also ordered a coffee with sparkling water, first time I ever tried this combination and loved it! Had a refreshing zing to it paired with a citrusy flavor. The staff there patiently explained to us any questions we had about items on the menu. Parking is limited, and not being a parallel parking expert it was a little bit of a struggle finding street parking, but there's plenty of side streets if you're not able to park right in front of the cafe. read more

A cute place is my first impression. There was quite a few people inside but thankfully they were on top of it and kept the others outside. The music was playing and I'm sure there were friendly smiles hiding under masks. I went here thankfully on a Yelp Elite party pass. I'm so glad I went. I tried the coffee cream toast. This little coffee shop was truly one of our surprise highlights on our quick trip to Baltimore. My daughter spotted it on Yelp, and we took a meandering 3-mile walk through some interesting neighborhoods to get there from our hotel, but when we arrived, it was truly an oasis. It is so inviting - beautiful interior with pottery and chic home furnishings for sale. We ordered two lattes and three toasts, and everything was amazing. The coffee was great, and the toasts were beautiful, tasty and made with love. The gentleman making it was so focused on adding a dash of spices here, and drizzle and flowers there, that I think we startled him when we told him: "That's so beautiful!" For our savory item, we had one of their house favorites - the chicken salad served on a rosemary lemon sourdough, topped w/ thinly sliced sweet pickles - it was really flavorful and unique. Then we had the floral butter toast, served on brioche with was light as a cloud, topped w/ cinnamon sugar, some sort of drizzle, and dainty edible flowers; almost too beautiful to eat, but we had no choice. Then, we had the sweet tart toast, topped w/ a creamy lime ricotta, and beautiful plump fresh raspberries, served on that same amazing brioche. To die for. Unfortunately, their interior seating is closed due to COVID, but fortunately, they have a spacious, delightful garden patio, right next door. It's on a wooden deck, with a few chairs scattered around at spacious intervals, surrounded by beautiful flowers and pots of plants, with their greenhouse at the top. Wow! This is literally my dream coffee shop and I'm so happy to see something like this pop up in Baltimore. I simply can't do it justice with a review so you have to go experience it for yourself. Good neighbor is a concept that incorporates coffee/food, home goods and plants. The result is total zen. The food and drinks are fresh, delicious, and unique - and a lot of the menu items are surprisingly reasonably priced. I just love their fancy toasts, and can't wait to try their lunch items too! The employees are friendly and make you feel right at home, and the shop itself feels like home too. It's beautiful, comfortable and decorated a way that I'd want to decorate my own home, with lots of wood, and interesting magazines and books to read. There are various home goods for sale, which seem a bit pricey but are probably good quality. But undeniably, the coolest part is the green, spacious outdoor patio and attached greenhouse that sells an array of plants. The greenhouse employees told me they're planning on offering classes on how to make a terrarium, which sounds amazing! There are also 15 minute parking spots right outside to make it easy to pick up something quickly. But be warned: the line can get pretty long on the weekends. A pastry with a plant on the side? This is my absolute #1 FAVORITE cafe so far. It's gonna be hard to find one that beats it. Came here on a Sunday morning. There was a little line outside because they only take a certain number of people inside, but the wait wasn't too bad. I do admit the parking may be a little annoying. The coffee shop has I think 2 spaces for only 15 min, so you have to find street parking nearby. My group was lucky to find street parking directly across the street in front of the townhouses. The interior is stunning. There is so much attention to detail. I wish I could decorate my house with the same aesthetics. Each piece of furniture is unique, and the set of ceramics and cups and other small things are so beautiful. There were a few boxes labeled Hay, a Danish brand, and my group could tell some kitchenware and furniture were from Hay, During this time of the pandemic, I appreciated that indoor seating was not a thing. There are around 5-6 sitting areas with beautiful patio furniture spread apart outside for outdoor seating. I also appreciated that they gave to go boxes and beautifully packaged plastic utensils. We ordered 3 diff toasts and 3 diff coffees. I got the lavender lemon latte and spiced chickpea on sourdough. Both absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back here again. Hands down the most beautiful coffee shop in Baltimore! Walking inside good neighbor is like traveling into a catalog of modern, chic furniture that you can enjoy (well maybe once COVID restrictions are lifted). I can't wait to see this place buzzing in a few weeks/months when it's safe to be out and about. It's a must-visit even without mentioning the food/drinks... BUT the food!! They make their own breads (which you can buy by the loaf) and have put the bread to its greatest use. I never thought I'd want a PB&J again after I left middle school but this is different. Tahini butter with a floral house made jam that turns PB&Js into a great coffee companion. At $6 though, it's not the cheapest I've had. They also had a lot of savory options that I haven't tried yet but looked equally as delicious. On to the coffee: I had an iced lemon lavender latte. Before you think you know how that'll taste, just order it and give it a shot. Lavender lattes deserve to be a thing at more places and I'm glad I could find it at good neighbor.
