This was one of the only places on College open on a Sunday afternoon, and I'm guessing that all the drunken shenanigans on College the night before results in only dinner time hours. We were on foot (good thing in foresight to the meal we were about to have), and we had walked from Olde Oneida down to Good Company because a friend who's a local had let us know about this place because I had initially wanted to go the Old Bavarian, but that place wasn't open till 4, and unfortunately we had to be at the airport by 1:15. I seriously read over all the reviews before going in, and I could definitely say ALL of them were very useful! (Jeff, Linda, Leah, etc), although the potatoes didn't have the consistency to be boxed, and I was just waiting for slacker service, but the girl we had did a good job. All'n'all, there's probably a ton of places that make Appleton look a lot better, but you'll just have to pay attention to the business hours if you want to eat at those places.... oh, and anybody watching their (*ahem!) carbs will want to watch out for Good Company (mashed potatoes, breads, and more potatoes) because these foods don't make "good company" if you're not trying to fatten up your belly! read more

I would have given three stars for the food, but the service dragged it down. At 2pm on a Sunday, I was alarmed to see a coach bus in the parking lot, but this place is so big, it just swallowed up what looked like an entire baseball team. However, why we had to get the table right next to the several long ones set up for the group, I do not know. We actually shifted our table over so that we weren't right on top of them...and this was after the hostess had to get more chairs from nearby tables, since there were only two at ours. I saw her repeat this for the next party she seated -- what the heck? Are there not enough chairs, and is it not quiet enough to get chairs out before you seat people, leaving them awkwardly standing and waiting for you?? And aren't there whole other sections in this giant restaurant? Our waiter was nice enough, but not terribly attentive. With one person in the restroom, he didn't quite seem to get that water for everyone meant that missing person as well. I was only offered a refill when he brought our food, and he took the glass away instead of bringing a pitcher, which I don't particularly care for. When we declined dessert, he immediately produced the checks with a weird comment about how he didn't think we would go for dessert since "that was a lot of food." Uh, ok then? The food itself was fine. My friend recommended the French dip, describing it as "super basic," which hit the nail on the head. Bread, roast beef, cheese. The waiter had to come back with the au jus, along with my water, so I kind of sat there for a minute before I could actually start eating... The onion rings are the exact same ones I've had at Perkins -- giant, covered in batter, not bad, though in need of salt, and really not worth the $1.49 upcharge for the 5 on my plate. Overall, I would have given the food another shot, but unfortunately the poor service did it in for me. There are plenty of other places to eat in Appleton, so maybe try one of those instead. read more

They are receiving two stars, because I have been here dozens of times and not had such a bad experience as I had with my family. We had relatives in town and decided to meet for dinner at a fun place with amazing food. I love their tenderloins sandwich and have had amazing ones in the past, so I recommended it to everyone. My mom also ordered it. Both of our tenderloins were completely charred black on the outsides! We had someone else try it and they said it tasted like someone dragged it on the bottom of the grill. I don't like complaint/sending food back, but family convinced me to. They gave us 50% off, which was nice. However, we then waited 20 minutes to actually receive the check after she told us the news. We have to pay at the host stand on the way out, and I was waiting in line with my mom, as we had separate checks for each family. My mom went ahead of me, and as I was stepping up to take my turn, the host grabbed the lady on the side of me, not even in line! She never even apologized, and after that she wouldn't even make Eye contact! So of course, I regret suggesting Good Company for a family get together and suggesting the tenderloin sandwich. read more

Meh. My family and I came here for lunch one afternoon. Basic American fare. The prices are reasonable and the appetizers are better than the entrees! The service was fine but I can barely remember who our waiter or waitress was. I came here with my mom for late lunch on a Friday afternoon, so there was plenty of parking and no wait to be seated. Since it was Friday, my mom ordered their Friday Fish Fry special, which was fried perch with your choice of side and a side salad. I opted for the bang pow shrimp salad, which is fried shrimp in a creamy sriracha sauce with apples, mozzarella, cashews, and Romaine, served with their housemade ranch dressing. Straws were automatically provided for our drinks, which I really wish they would not do as they are wasteful and bad for the environment. I was originally quite nervous about my salad, as all of the ingredients sounded good in a vacuum, but it seemed like a strange combination for a single dish. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the apples went with the spicy shrimp, although I didn't feel like the mozzarella had much flavor to stand up against the other items in the salad, and Romaine is fairly boring and nutritionally empty as far as greens go. My mom's fish fry was pretty good, and she seemed happy with it. But I found the experience to be fairly standard, and while not bad, I wouldn't rush to go back there again. read more

Tonight we ordered delivery through a food service. We got our food timely but the chips for the spinach and artichoke were stale, there was barely any sauce on the tortellini, but more importantly we found bugs in our salads!! I called the restaurant and they said to call the food delivery service. Why? They don't make the food?! I did anyway and they contacted the restaurant and basically said we were lying and that they don't have bugs in their restaurant. I'm sure they don't, but the salad did! I'm giving this place five stars not necessarily because of the food but because the atmosphere is so amazing and unique. I had a chopped salad which was delicious and the service was prompt and friendly, But really the best part of the restaurant was seeing all of the different decor in the rooms. It's clear when you walk in that this restaurant is unlike any other and is so much better than all the other tacky chain restaurants that can be found all over the country. The atmosphere and bartenders are great. Server knowledge is mediocre at best over the past couple of times I've been there. The large group accommodations are desirable if that is what you are looking for. This is prime real estate for the area, there's a lot going for them but I would not go if you're looking for a good meal. I've never had more processed, cheap food than I got at this place . If you want some lunch lady processed slop, order the beef taco meat...or maybe you're craving some frozen shrimp thrown in a vat of butter sprinkled with "bread crumbs", order Shrimp Scampi. In Appleton for the weekend for the Packers game, drove by and decided to give it a try. Very neat atmosphere, tons of things to look at and can be seated in different rooms, we were in the library upstairs. Our waitress was great! Caught me on the way to the bathroom to take my drink order and the cherry pepsi's were made deliciously! Very fast and were in and out in like 40 min before the rush got there. We started with cheese curds and they were great, very good flavor and hot. Boyfriend had the fish sandwich and it was a mess and just fell apart. Said he didn't really like the tarter sauce as it tasted too much like celery but the fish was good. I had chicken sandwich and it was messy too, and fell apart but was really good! i thought this was a pretty typical place. you can choose pastas, burgers, sandwiches, or main dishes. there are lots of choices, so it's good for groups. they have a good beer selection too other than the normal coors/lite, miller/lite, bud/lite, pbr that you get around this area. i had a blue moon and another local beer. i came here with a coworker and thought that i should have ordered a fish like he did since the pasta i got was too much food. appetizers are pretty normal, onion rings, fries, etc... overall, a solid place to go to and you won't get bad food. read more

Let's start with the positive. Great atmosphere, very roomy, friendly staff, reasonably priced, and a big menu with lots to choose from (this could be good or bad depending on your preference.) Now for the bad. I have been here many many times in my 14 years in Appleton. It has always just been okay. It has never blown my socks off. There has never been an item I just had to go back for! There is a company that owns this restaurant along with several others in Appleton, one being Beefeaters, and another I think is Pullmans. I went to Beefeaters a couple of months ago and one of my favorite thinks about both Beefeaters and Good Company was their cheesy garlic mashed potatoes. Well I was VERY disappointed when I was served boxed/dehydrated mashed potatoes. They were awful! I was hoping this was isolated to Beefeaters but when my husband and I went to eat at Good Company last night, the same thing! Boxed Mashed potatoes!! Are you kidding me?? If I wanted boxed potatoes I could have purchased them for .99 cents at walmart and made them at home (not that I would even eat them at home!) Also I ordered the chimichanga and it was soggy, if I wanted it soggy I would have ordered a burrito, a chimichanga is suppose to be crispy! Recently went there for a business dinner. Took 30 minutes to get our water. We had to go to the bar to get our own drinks. Food took forever to get to us and when it got there the quality was poor at best. After our meal the manager came to see how we were. We were honest about the food and service. He asked us to fill out comment cards and we let him know that he had our comments. He stormed off. While we talking in the parking lot he came out and told us to get the f*** off of the property. Too expensive for what you get. My husband had an old fashioned and the bartender forgot to put alcohol in the drink. It was not a week drink. It was without alcohol. When we told the waitress she brought him a new one and charged us for it. My Friday fish special was made from frozen fish patties. My father in law had a steak he couldn't eat. End of story. I think a previous poster summed it up best when she said that her family has been going there for so long even though the food is not "out of this world good". This is my least favorite restaurant in Appleton. I'm just warning you, out-of-towners. Don't do it. Appleton has so much better to offer. Strengths: the service is good. They have a free taco bar during happy hour. It's in a great location that tempts people to go here. Perhaps there is a kitschy irony in the decor. It has the feel of being the first TGIFridays ever, in 1978. Barriers to being a place worth visiting: terrible menu.
