Broke a golden rule.... Read the Yelp reviews as I was sitting in the restaurant!!! There is a reason that after 42 reviews this place gets a 2.5! The few points might be for semi quick service or the cool atmosphere but I would be surprised if it is the food! I had below average "loaded" potato soup... Warm (at best)and a few lumps of potato and some fake bacon bits. Bland and blah. My Rueben simply sucked! The sandwich was only warm enough to slightly melt the cheese. The meat was processed sliced corned beef... No flavor at all except the thousand island sauce and toasted bread! Too bad, this seems like it could be a fun place to eat. The staff should have some pep to make the décor. Our waitress brought no enthusiasm to the table whatsoever. She would have fit in better at the local diner slinging hash. This placer is a staple. When I was on my college visit during HS the football coach took my family and I here. The ambiance is cool with multi levels of charm. The food is above average but I never left without feeling satisfied. Just stick to the basics--burgers, fries, sandwiches. This isn't the place to get fish or pastas. Great for groups. read more

I went to this establishment based on recommendation by friend (said it was the best place to eat if you are looking for variety) with my dad and boyfriend one afternoon (selective eaters). Service: Attentive and friendly, very laid back and casual dining experience. Atmosphere: Quirky weird random things all over the walls with no rhyme or reason to them. It looks like a little kid was let loose at a bunch of garage sales and decorated. Food: Horrible. I ordered a BLT sandwich and the bread was soaked soggy with pickle juice. I had a salad before my sandwich and it was boring iceberg lettuce, with store-bought croutons, beyond mediocre and something you can expect from a lunch lady at a nursing home. I left over half my sandwich (I ate the bacon and tomato) and almost all of my salad leaving the establishment still hungry and very unsatisfied. My dad and boyfriend were both as unhappy with their meals as I was. I get that their menu is extensive, but as I've said in past reviews before, one of the biggest faults of a restaurant is having too many mediocre items on a menu vs. having a menu with a few great items. I'm honestly torn on this review. The service by our waiter was terrible, but the manager on duty did her best to compensate for the issues, and we left feeling they treated us fairly. I arrived ahead of our party at 6:14 PM and said we had four plus a baby. They gave me a buzzer and said it would be a 20-25 minute wait. Fifteen minutes later, they had a table ready for us. I will preface this next part by saying, yes, I could have - and should have - said "No" when they began walking our party to the second floor seating area. I have an achilles tendon injury and had crutches, but the hostess still felt a second story table was a good idea. Once seated, it took a while before our waiter greeted us, and it was to tell us he was behind and would be back. When he took our drink order, he also asked if we were ready to order our meals. We were, so we placed our orders. My daughter specifically asked for a chicken wrap with chicken, cheese, lettuce, and ranch. He ordered a chicken bacon wrap for her, removed the bacon, tomato, and onion (but apparently wrote down mayo). This is when the "fun" began. From that point forward, service was excruciatingly slow. After 5+ minutes our non-alcoholic beverages arrived, and the two alcoholic beverages came an additional 5+ minutes later. In between, our appetizer of cheese curds arrived - with marinara instead of the ranch dressing we ordered - and our waiter was gone again. He did not check back again until he brought our meals. After quickly handing out the meals, he was gone before we could address the fact that he had never brought the salads for two of us or the fact that he did not bring the ranch. One person in our party had ordered ranch dressing for her fries, but that never arrived, either. Again, we could have addressed this with our waiter, but he was nowhere to be found. The running joke at our table was that if we saw another employee, we'd ask if they had seen our waiter, because he hadn't. Here is the part of the review where I talk about the food, itself. I ordered the perch platter, and my honest assessment is, "Meh." I would honestly not recommend that anyone order the perch there. The breading didn't stick to the fish, and the flavor was just not to my liking. It also did not come with rye bread or coleslaw, but if it did, that never arrived, either. We go to a lot of places for fish fry, and this was not up to par. My oldest daughter said her French dip was the best she has had there, and my wife likes the sandwich she ordered, as well. My youngest daughter's chicken wrap arrived - mostly correct - with mayo instead of ranch. So, batting .500 on the food, itself. We have had good meals here before, or we wouldn't keep coming back. Celebrating my oldest daughter's birthday, we decided to order some desserts, since those are usually good there. The double chocolate cake was decadent, and it's tough to mess up a cookie baked in cast iron with ice cream and chocolate topping. After the meal we again waited a long time. Remember, I arrived at 6:14, we waited 15 minutes, and we finally left restaurant at 8:17 according to my receipt. This next part is what bumps this rating/review up to a 3. Once the bill came, I headed down to pay. I was reasonable with the cashier, explaining that we have been there before and this was the worst service we have ever had. I explained that my wife never got her side salad and the salad with my fish fry never came, either. I also explained that our waiter was seldom at our table, so we couldn't really bring this to his attention. I said our meals arrived, and at that point the salad wasn't worth it. In addition, I said the running joke at out table was if we see another server, we'll ask if they've seen our server. I was very specific that I felt it reasonable that they take off the cost of the added side salad and to take the cost of the salad off of my fish fry. I did not ask them to void the bill or do anything crazy. The cashier went to get a manager. When she arrived, I began with "Our waiter may be new, but we have come to expect better service at Good Company." The manager was very apologetic, and - to be honest - at first she went nuts and was like, "I'm taking off the side salad, and the appetizer, and the desserts," but as she added it up, I think the discount got too big, so she re-did it and ended up taking $17.00 off the bill. Remember, I just asked that they remove the charges for two side salads. I will tell you that I felt bad because I don't know if waiters keep tips themselves or if the house splits tips, so I left an $11 tip, hoping the back of the house would see some of the money. So the total came to $88 including tip. Much better than the $110-$115 full bill for terrible service She again apologized, and I said thank you, and that "This happens." I wanted to say, "I know this place is better than what happened tonight," but just left with feeling fairly treated by the manager. read more

Take an old factory and turn it into a restaurant. Great idea. Add in large portions, you can have leftovers from. Good Company is a good spot for a variety of food types. Their menu is large. I like their tri-colored tortellini. The bad? Don't go when they are having a large group party in their party room. Being an old factory, they have not done enough to dampen the sound. So you need to talk really loudly to be heard. Can be noisy on a busy evening as well. I do agree with others, too many menu items. At times, the food has been bland, but then the next visit pretty good. Maybe less is more. Chef can concentrate on making a smaller menu and bring consistency to the food. It is worth a stop in. I ordered the spicy chicken fettuccine alfredo and loved it, but I did have to get a to go box because the meal was gigantic I ate the leftovers for dinner the same night, and lunch the next day! This place is an abomination: cheesy New Orleans decor (without any real Cajun or Creole food on the menu) and watered down drinks (don't get the margarita - it's probably virgin, but you definitely get charged full price). And I'm not really sure what was in the "Duo Enchilada", I suspect beef almost past it's due date, but whatever it is should not be put on a meal plate. The Company Burger was decent, but I had to track down ketchup and mustard on my own. For $48 (two people), somebody needs to gut this rude facsimile of a restaurant and start over with new management. Grade: D minus. read more

The building is very cool and retro. The atmosphere is bustling. The staff runs hot and cold and the food is just okay. I had battered cod which was rather flavorless. My daughter and her friend had chicken strips. I hadn't been there in a few years and now I remember why. I wish the food was better because the place is so great looking and it could be better with a little imagination and some spices. I usually stick to the taco bar here during happy hour. I haven't eaten an actual meal here in years, but you can't go wrong with a free taco bar. They usually have meat, beans, cheese, lettuce, salsas, chips and taco shells of some kind. It's free while you sit and enjoy a happy hour beverage, so why not? When I did come for dinners, it was pretty standard American food. Nothing fancy, nothing special. It's a diverse menu where lots of people can order something they want, but you aren't guaranteed an amazing meal. Service can be hit or miss, but it's usually good in the bar area. read more

I have been very saddened by the decline of Good Company. When I was younger, I recall them having such great food but during a few recent trips back to the area, they have been extremely subpar. On my most recent visit, I ordered the fettuccine alfredo, which is easily one of my favorite dishes at any establishment. The dish had very little flavor and just did not live up to what I remembered from Good Company even 5 years ago. All the other experiences at Good Company were exceptional, including service, atmosphere, and general friendliness of the staff but the food just flat out was not good. I hope Good Company is able to re-evaluate some of their recipes to provide a rejuvenated menu with dishes full of flavor while keeping the same great service and atmosphere they are known for. read more

Holy shit...this is one of the greatest examples of the inherent awfulness of the "green 'n brown" type family restaurant. The instant I walked in my spidey sense tingled, warning me to flee the kitschy stoplight and misc debris that passes for decor. I ignored my instincts and was seated. Seated in a gigantic room that looked like a gymnasium, attached to a wall of fake bricks that evidently is supposed to look like New Orleans (it doesn't) by way of Applebee's. Our curt polo-shirted server was prompt at least, and looking in his eyes I saw that he too recognized the inherent lameness of this establishment. Their beer list is OK. One upside. the food is a variety of fried things, and could be off of any corporate chain restaurant menu. Somehow though, both my and my colleague's were even blander and more unsatisfying than even the major chains. I mean it was really, really astounding. I won't go into detail about what we ordered but suffice to say they came from different spectrums and both sucked. Stay away...there is way better stuff within walking distance. The decor is kitschy, which I happen to like, but the food is just okay. The soup I had when dining here was not particularly flavorful and it was lukewarm. The service was kind of "meh" because our waitress was not very attentive or friendly. The price should be lower for the food you get, which is akin to a fast food joint. The few times I've eaten there, my dining companions felt similarly "meh" about the food. I feel like this place is pretending to be something it's not or is confused what it is, if that makes any sense at all. Would I return? If someone were treating me to a meal and selected this restaurant, I would politely suggest that we go elsewhere because their money is better spent elsewhere. I went to Good Company for dinner to a friend's 30th birthday. The place is a little over the top when it came to the decor. It reminded me a bit of an Applebee's, but with two floors. When we walked in you could tell the hostess was in a very bad mood, and proceeded to argue with one of her coworkers (our waiter). I can usually put things like this aside because you only see the hostess for about 2 minutes. I did make a point of telling her it was my friend's 30th birthday, and she told me they bring a complementary sundae. We were seated immediately and promptly offered drinks. I read a lot of reviews about poor service so I was happy that our server seemed to be on top of things. We ordered the Hot Spinach Dip and Fried Ravioli to start. I did not try the Ravioli, but the dip was alright. I have had better. I was a little on the bland side, and a little runny. For my entree I ordered the Chicken with Mushrooms. The meal came with soup or salad. I had a cup of the baked french onion. The soup was not very good. It was not hot enough and the cheese melted on top was gross. The chicken dish was just ok. It was a bit over salted. I wouldn't order it again. It came with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, which were actually pretty good. My table mates ordered ribs (he liked them), Alfredo (they said it was pretty good), and chicken tenders (birthday girl liked them a lot), so maybe it was just me. At the end of the meal the waiter brought our checks and told us to pay at the front. Birthday Sundae? Considering she and her husband stopped at the Bar before, and she was wearing a glowing "happy birthday" button I didn't think he would miss it. I guess that is what you get for assuming. The service was stellar and deserves a solid 5 stars in the dining room and a solid 4 stars in the bar... However the food was all a solid 3 star production The Prime rib was good but it wasn't great its very hard to verbalize it was not bad at all it just didn't dazzle me! The signature cream cheese mashed potatoes were ok but were too smooth and starchy they reminded me of boxed potatoes to me, I hope that I am wrong but they were disappointing to say the least... The warm bread was really good but I feel like the butter was fake if it wasn't again it tasted like it was a butter flavored spread to me... The salad was good, I had a raspberry vinaigrette and it was too sweet and thick not your typical vinaigrette for sure an unhealthy facsimile for sure... I was surprised to see the reviews and ratings were so low for Good Company on Yelp. Being from out of town, we always try and visit the restaurant when we pass through. Sadly, our experience was similar to other diners. Management needs to step in ASAP, as something needs to change quick! The hostess was rude when we arrived. We had a party of five and you would have thought we walked in with 30 people without notice. After being seated during a slower time in the restaurant, it took 10 minutes to be greeted and for our drink order. Although most of the food was ok, it wasn't the same quality as in past visits. In addition, the waitress did not do a great job coming back to the table for drink refills or check ins. Overall very disappointing for a good Restaurant. read more

Typical American fare food. Comparable to most national chains but does have a local feel to the decor. I enjoyed all the local trinkets on the walls and the booth was a cozy quiet atmosphere. I tried the Southwest wrap which included jalepenos so I was excited for the little extra kick! My coworker had the nachos with chicken added. It was so large there was no way to finish it. Fries had a good seasoning to them and they were substantial. . . not those shoestring stlye ones. I remembered that I had liked their bloody Mary's and they did not disappoint. Good garnish , Bloody Mary served with beer of choice chaser and a little side of to tabasco. This is mine and my boyfriends favorite restaurant! We are both from Illinois, so when family or friends visit we bring our family there for something different than a food chain. Everyone loves it and always wants to go again when they come back! It has really neat decor and has the friendliest servers. Another point is that they are able to read their guest, they don't try and rush you out, but they get you your food as quick as they can so if you are in a rush you aren't sitting there for two hours! My favorite dish is their Company Burger and their French Onion soup! HUGE burger and lots of fries for a great price. Overall, Good Company is cheap for the service and quality of food that you get. I grew up in Appleton, frequented this restaurant with my family, and hadn't eaten there in a good 10 years until this past weekend. Really - not a lot has changed. There isn't anything fancy or uber exciting about this place. You'll get solid food for a decent price. Definitely good for groups - we went on a Saturday night and the place was PACKED. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for a table although we had a group of 6 so that may be why. Overall I'd say this restaurant is good but not great. read more

Always a favorite for family birthday parties as a kid, I (like most of the other reviewers here, it seems) have a special place in my heart for Good Company. The decor is really cute - I particularly like the library room, because the only thing better than eating is eating while surrounded by books - and the service is always friendly. The bar is fun and busy and casual. All this being said, I was accustomed to the menu (and the food) being pretty mediocre. I expected this, and so never got upset when my meal tasted more or less like something I could have made at home. Imagine my surprise when, last year, I went here and there were way more vegetarian options on the menu. Not only that - they were REALLY good. Awesome. I've been there a few times since then, and the food has been consistently better than it used to be. (Also, they have tasty and reasonably priced margaritas.) The only downside is I think they got rid of the Superman-in-phone-booth statue thing. Too bad. read more

The best thing about Good Company is the decor. Kinda kitschy but still fun with its themed rooms. This place used to be a pizza joint when I was in high school and the scene of many a date. I guess I have a soft spot in my heart because of that. The food is typical of a burger and pasta joint. There are alot of entrees to choose from and nothing really stands out. However, for a family outing or a larger group, this may be a good choice to please everyone's palate. My 11-yr old rates this as one of her fav restaurants. My favorite dish? Dessert, of course! The Cast Iron Cookie. Its a small cast iron pan with a chocolate chip cookie baked in the bottom. I was highly disappointed in this food. I have no other way to open this review than with this statement. I was there with a large party of about 10-15 and the service was amazing. Drink orders? Prompt and refills plentiful. Even the process of taking orders and bringing out food? All timely and awesome. Good job, severs! The issue was that what they actually brought to the table was gross. The menu is pretty expansive, and I decided to go with the Asian Cashew Salad, which was marked in the menu as a house specialty. First red flag was when the sever asked me what dressing I'd wanted, and when I asked for whatever asian themed dressing usually came with the salad, I was told there wasn't one. But that lots of people for peppercorn vinegarette? SPOILER ALERT DO NOT DO THIS. This salad was salty before I tried the peppercorn dressing, with it, I was like a deer licking a salt block at the table. And I LIKE salt. It was almost inedible. The chicken was "grilled" and dry and salty. And the only "asian" flare about it were the cashews thrown on top of it. How is this a house favorite? The girl next to me got the Alfredo and there was tons of thin watery liquid on the plate. Not at all appetizing. But the spinach dip and chips? Yum! So there's that. Thank god. read more

Had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. We're in the state of cheese, but the nachos were covered with processed, canned cheese that you could get a high school basketball game. The tortellini was something I could have EASILY made at home, and it would have been cheaper and tasted better. The sauce on the noodles tasted like a plain white sauce with a meager amount of cheese thrown in. Nothing was hot. I will not be visiting this establishment again. This was anything but Good Company. The best part of the evening was watching all the high schoolers attempting to walk in super high heels while attending dinner on their homecoming dance night. read more

I am so disappointed with this restaurant. There is something to be said in good customer service, I did not experience that today. I ordered to go, didn't get part of my order so I called back was supposed to get it fixed, plus a little extra free of charge. So I bring home my fries excited thinking at least they will be fresh. No old French fries that have obviously been sitting around. It's not that difficult to make fresh fries, and as a customer I think it's very rude.
