I ordered a wrap that was seven eights wrap and 1/8 filling. The center of the wrap was so soggy I couldn't eat it. Their drinks are good but the food is less than mediocre. I normally don't go out my way to write a review unless my review will help future customers decide where to eat. On 2/21 we had a very poor experience. I had a group of about 10 or so and didn't make a reservation... they had suited to our needs. We said 15 or so people were arriving but we were sitting at a table for 20 minutes or so. The waiter should have asked if we were ready to order but it ended up we had to hunt him down because he thought more people were arriving. Anyways, I ordered the veggie wrap, my sister did as well. It was so bland. The veggies weren't cooked and it stated there was supposed to be a special sauce but there was nothing special about it. That's unfortunate. We paid over $10 for something I could barely eat. Towards the end of our visit we had about 4 separate bills and the waiter didn't know how to handle that. He was adding stuff on the other bill and brother in law had to go and help him at the monitor in order to get it correct. He should not have been serving a group this big as he could not handle it! Very upset about that as this was my sisters 21st birthday dinner. Will be going elsewhere next time. I do want to note that some people in the group had great tasting dishes but mine wasn't so. Steak with salmon dish is my favorite dish there. I really appreciate how they package my to-go orders. They don't cram everything into one to-go box. What's supposed to be crispy stays crispy and is not mushy or soggy by the time I get home with my food. I eat out and order out quite a bit and a majority of my orders are usually always crammed into one box, separated by wax paper or plastic wrap. I don't have a lot of time to sit in restaurants every time I want to eat out. I expect my quality of food to be the same in house when I order out. My family and I hadn't been here in a while and we couldn't remember why. It didn't take long to remember. My wife ordered the fish sandwich. It was obviously frozen breaded fish that they stuck inside a bun and slapped 2 pieces of fake American cheese on it. Disgusting! The fries were frozen and we must've gotten the bottom of the bag because they were freezer burnt! I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich. Greasy and unappealing. I ordered it with Cole slaw. I love a good Cole slaw. I liked the Cole slaw, but I also like their Cole slaw when I buy it at Festival Foods! That's right, they get it from festival foods. We're from out of town for an evening business meeting here. We were sat at an upstairs table and wanted to have a few drinks before ordering our food. Since the restaurant is huge, we thought it wouldn't be a problem. The server kept hounding us for a food order even though we were drinking most of our bill. We finally ordered food and as I was coming out of the bathroom overheard the server complaining about us. He then came to tell us his shift was almost over and we needed to close out Instead of giving us an alternative option (:so and so can take care of you" or "the bar is open until..."). I've been in the service industry but know where my tip is coming from.. The more we spend on drinks, the larger the tip. read more

It was so underwhelming both times I came here. The first time we each got soup. We got the French onion, chicken enchilada, and potato. We thought the French onion was the worst any of us have ever had. It's a family favourite, so we have it all the time. The other soups weren't very good either. The food here is so lack luster and it always has been. Service can be good or bad, pretty hit or miss in that area, my bigger concern is the food. It's so forgettable.You guys need to overhaul your menu already. If you can't wow the taste buds, there's no point in going back. Restaurants in Appleton always lack in either the atmosphere or the food, not many can seem to nail both areas. I suggest hiring a really good chef to come in and help create a new menu, it could do wonders for business. It was hard for me to choose between 4 and 5 stars, but went with 4 stars in the end because I don't usually go out of my way to eat there all that often. So, it wasn't awful. But I wouldn't go back. Here's why: 1) My entree came with a salad, as did one of my companions. The salad was wilted almost beyond the point where it could be eaten. 2) I ordered zucchini sticks, which were advertised on a chalkboard by the front door. When I ordered them, our waitress said they were served for Wicked (which was several weeks ago) but they "might" have some left over. Yum, sounds great. :( 3) The cream cheese mashed potatoes, which sound amazing, were instant potatoes. Our waitress denied this up and down, but I know instant potatoes when I eat them...they had that chemical, powdery after taste. 4) The cod was delicious. 5) Our waitress bussed the table while we were still sitting there talking. Like, she cleared EVERYTHING, including our water glasses, and stood there with a rag in her hand to wipe the table and waited for us to get up. We took that as our clue to leave. 6) Not sure why she was in such a hurry to wipe the table because when we sat down, the table was sticky and disgusting. 7) The atmosphere is nice...a few different "themes" in different rooms because this place is HUGE. 8) Service was fast, but to the point of sloppiness. We ordered water with lemon. No more than 1 minute later, our waters were brought to us, lemonless. Our fish platters were brought without tartar sauce. Our silverware was brought right away but was dirty. Sorry, waitress Paula, that I left you a crappy tip. I always tip servers, no matter how bad the service is. But the amount I tip is directly proportional to how good the service is. 12% was generous, because you really need some customer service training. I have been meaning to try this place for quite a while as I had heard great things. My experience was far from great. We ordered an appetizer, "HOT" spinach dip. The dip was cold, and unappetizing. We asked our server to re-heat it so that it would be warm; however, when it came back out, it looked like it had been slopped and spilled all over the plate. We were hoping for a great Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry, but the cod we ordered looked and tasted as if it had come from a box. Stopped in for lunch today with some family. Both of my parents each got a sandwich and a cup of fruit instead of fries which is always a nice option. Both enjoyed their sandwiches but neither one jumped out as super special. I had the honey mustard chicken salad which was very tasty but a little plain. The chicken was grilled and topped with some cheddar cheese. The honey mustard dressing was really good. Not to sweet but had a good flavor. The actual salad was nothing spectacular but was good on a warm sunny day. They service was friendly and attentive. We were seated on the second level which was a little warm and made all three of us a little claustrophobic due to the low ceilings. I'm sure if we had asked they would have seated us downstairs. I had the Mexican Special: A beef and bean burrito/cheese & onion enchilada that made Taco Bell look like The Palm, a hard shell taco that was soaked in so much grease it could have caused the BP oil spill, and nacho chips that were 100% several month-old Tostitos. My brother had a medium-done steak that was as black as Hitler's heart, and I also had a margarita that would make Jon Taffer's head turn like an owl. In case my sample size is too small, every single person at my table of 12 hated their food. In case you still have an appetite for Good Company, I had diarrhea for two days after the meal, and we had to wait for 15 minutes to get our orders taken (wasn't even close to busy at the time), so all in all it's a great restaurant if your alternative choice is Gary Busey's Dungeon Buffet. read more

Oh my childhood memories have been cleared away. The Good Company has fallen from grace and is almost on par with George Webb. I used to love going here as a kid. I've tried this a few times in the last year. The food has in general either been over or under cooked, and rather bland. i.e. fish in general should flake...not need a knife like a ribeye. Good Company is known for a great (and a little pricey) meal. I strongly suggest the 10 oz tenderloin. The steak with dipping sauce is to die for. Not a hint of fat! It is quality. The bonus of getting a steak is the bread they serve you before. Cut right into it and slap on some butter. I've eaten two loaves without taking a breath. Suggest getting the Wisconsin brewed Sprecher Root Beer. The whole combination will leave you coming back again and again. read more

I had the lasagna, which was not bad, sauce tasted like it was from a can. My wife had the cod dinner and it actually tasted worse than vandekamps that you buy in the supermarket. Unfortunately our experience here was very disappointing. We came in to be greeted by no one so we decided after waiting a few minutes to go in to the bar area. Ordered a drink, and received a menu. We were told nothing.....like the specials. After ordering I asked if we cld sit at a table to eat. And the person was like "you mean like have a waitress". Never being there before I didn't know if it was like some places where you can order at the bar and be taken to a table after. So he said we could sit at any table in the bar area and so we did. Eventually our soup and salad came. Another person had brought it out. Not asking if we needed anything or offering to refill our drinks. We went back up to the bar for our own drinks. The wait on the rest of our meal was forever. I don't think saying 45 minutes or more is exaggerating one bit. When the guy brought it he never asked if we needed anything again. I had to ask for salt and pepper and our bread which the menu states we get. We ordered steak and no steak sauce was set out on our table either. Prob most disappointing was when we finally did receive our food.....it was cold!! By this point we really were just wishing we had made another choice of places as we are parents of young children and it's a very rare occasion we get to get away alone for a nice meal. When the food came cold we may have considered complaining but no one ever bothered to ask us how our food was after serving it to us. At that point we were so hungry and just wanted to eat and leave. Someone did finally return to clear our plates but again did not ask how our food was, if we wanted anything else, or offer us our bill even. It was a shame because considering it was cold the food was actually good. But I still prefer to have my mashed potatoes warm at the very least. I again went up to the bar and asked for my bill so we could go. I left a 6 dollar tip which I felt was generous for the huge lack of service and quality on our 60$ bill. Went there on Valentine's Day 2016. Heard nothing but great stuff about the place since I moved to Appleton about 2 years ago. Always wanted to take my family there when they came to visit. Had reservations at 830. Really nice decor. We were seated in back and a lot of the tables were clearing out, but some where still being seated at this time. Waiter cut off my brother who was trying to ask questions about the menu - insisted he had to start at the other side of the table. He forgot to take one of my sister's drink orders even as we called after him. Appetizers came and we asked for 3 waters. He returned with 1. Drinks finally arrived as we were done with our appetizers. Ordered our food. And we watched as a new couple were seated in our area and left with out being even greeted for about 15 minutes as our waiter and the hostess converse on the side. Restaurant half empty at this point. When bill arrived the waiter blamed everything on the cooks, saying he doesn't know what was wrong with them tonight. This of course as he hands the check to my brother whom he was curt with before. Overall a horrible experience. Felt so bad for my family and brother who took care of the bill. We ordered several drinks, appetizers, most of us had the prime rib and we shared desserts. That's a lot of money he spent only to get lackluster service in return. My family still jokes about the experience to this day. My brother also had to tell the front desk at the Paper Valley Hotel of his experience considering that they hyped up the restaurant too. Thought I'd fill in some of the blanks. Good Company was once called Baxter's Beef & Pizza Company. The original Baxter's was in Oshkosh. Appleton, its second location, opened in 1977. Then came locations in Sheboygan and Green Bay. The ownership group also owned the Mar's Hamburger chain. I worked at Baxter's, first in Oshkosh where the original Appleton crew trained prior to the Appleton opening. That same crew did some of the construction and decorating work prior to the store opening. I did various jobs including installing tin ceiling panels, knocking chunks out of wood railings to give them a well-used look, varnishing paneling, and stacking books in the "library" on the second floor. Once the Appleton store opened, I worked there off-and-on from 1977 until 1982, doing everything from dishes to busing tables to cooking pizzas and burgers. I later was a supervisor and assistant manager, helping to close the books each night after the 3:00 a.m. closing. One of the Baxter's employees, who I helped train in the various kitchen roles, was named John Reeder. At some point he left to start Good Company at the Marc's East location adjacent to the Lawrence Campus. Good Company was clearly a knock-off job. But then Baxter's found itself in financial and, some say, legal trouble, and closed the Appleton location. The others closed soon after. I love this place. We go here a few times a month and have never had a bad meal. I like their burgers and pasta the most. The chicken tender appetizer is great! One of the best things about the place is it's atmosphere. The upstairs area is a flashback to another time with old pictures of silver screen movie stars and there is a "Library Room" that I just love. They have their own version of the French Quarter downstairs, and a quiet area with an outdoor theme, etc. Since the decor and themes are a bit different in each area, it never gets old and there is always something you haven't seen before to comment on. Even when it's busy, it feels cozy and you can carry on a conversation without having to shout.The service is generally good, however you will get the occasional server who's not as good as the others. This is a great place to go for a date or with family. I love bringing people here for the first time. As I'm typing this, my sister is telling me to be sure to recommend the Caesar salad too and say that it is "awesome." read more

We went here months ago and were underwhelmed by the food, but it wasn't horrible. Our waitress was great the first time. We didn't intend to go back, but my dad chose to go for his birthday. The hostess was awkward, and put all three menus on the table on top of each other, and then put the silverware in a pile on top of the menus rather than putting our individual menus and silverware out. She left without a word. I ordered the Friday Fish Fry broiled cod, but my order arrived as the fried cod. I let the waitress know my order was wrong, and she said, "Well, that's what I've been serving all night!" and left. O....k.... I also got the mashed potatoes, which are very obviously instant potatoes. My boyfriend didn't like his burger much, but that is likely a preference thing and not a huge issue. However, my dad was eating his dinner salad and suddenly stopped eating and started picking through it. He said there was a fly in his salad. When he couldn't find it, he thought he'd been seeing things and kept eating. A couple of minutes later? Sure enough. LIVE FLY in the salad.
