After I'm done eating at Gonzo I always look forward to going to this little store playing the claw machines looking around getting an ice cream and maybe buying some stuff. The worker who works there is really nice and when they used to give out free tokens when we didn't have enough to share them equally, he would give us an extra one. They have many anime figures there and little stuffed animals and multiple gonzo shirts, hoodies, and hats. The price is OK, considering the quality of their products and the fact that you can win something that cost $15 in a claw machine that you only have to spend two dollars for a play. read more

Stopped by here after eating a bowl of ramen and it was dead empty inside other than the one employee sitting behind the counter who barely looked up when we entered. It was a very sad atmosphere inside. There were a bunch of claw machines that had next to nothing inside and were filled with cheap, useless knicknacks. Anything that was cool here was way overpriced. It's honestly the opposite of the actual ramen storefront. read more

After enjoying a delicious bowl of ramen at GONZO! Ramen, my eldest daughter and I walked on over to the GONZO! Store (located diagonal of GONZO! Ramen on the second floor of Carlsbad Village Faire Shops). They open at 5:00 PM on the weekdays and 12:00 PM on the weekends. We were lucky to still be in the area when they opened at 5:00 PM. It was a very clean and tidy store with lots of neat stuff. It is not a very big store, but it was packed with lots of goodies and knick knacks. I was holding back from taking any photos inside due to the specialty items. I should have just asked the gentleman behind the counter if I could take pictures. Anyway, I don't have any photos from the inside. Oh well. Perhaps next time. They had some fun claw machines. Japanese snacks and drinks of all sorts. Specialty brand clothing and toys. Figurines nicely placed on shelves for sale. It's a pretty neat place to check out. I didn't want to leave without buying something. We ended up getting a can of Ocean Bomb Dragon Ball Z Sparkling Water... orange flavor. First time trying it... it was okay. No WOW factor IMHO. If you have some extra time to spare after dining or shopping, come peruse around this fun and interesting GONZO! Store. There may be something fun and/or tasty for you to take home. Cute little store! I first heard about this place when I received a coupon credit at Gonzo! Ramen to play their vending game machine for free, which was a really fun experience. This place saddens me. What happened? Gonzo (restaurant) continues to do such a great job at ramen, no complaints there. But this off shoot store has seriously lost the magic. Before you would get these cool cards to cash in for a few free tokens to use at the store. So fun. We could then go use these on the few claw machines that had in them real unique Japanese stuffies..ones you just don't see here. Quirky and a fun little after meal activity--my kids loved it. But now fast forward and Gonzo store has drifted so far from its original charm..no more free tickets or tokens. now it's been washed over and feels as generic as Dave and busters. It's expensive as hell, the employee that works the register is rude and miserable, and for the small price of a house down payment you might walk with a rubber duck. No thanks. read more

Cute store with Japanese specialty items associated with Gonzo! ramen across the way in Carlsbad Village. They sell Japanese drinks, snacks, packaged soft serve ice cream, toys, shirts, novelty items, and have claw machines that cost $1/play. The location is great. The vibe is fun. The person working here was super sweet and had great customer service. But the automated token machine sucks.... It worked a few times and then it stopped working and when the staff member tried to help me get a single $1 token, it charged me $10 for 10 tokens. This machine needs to be redone or the purchasing of coins needs to be done differently. read more

Really cool store / gift shop for the GONZO! Ramen restaurant. They had an amazing selection of Japanese anime-themed figures, goodies, and snacks including ice cream! Can't forget to mention the claw machines! These seemed to be super popular when I was there. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Service was pretty good overall. They also had a wide variety of cool souvenir shirts for the GONZO! Ramen restaurant! Prices were pretty decent overall as well. And yes, they do have sonny angels (while supplies last). Walked in not sure what the store was about. Turns out they had some claw arcade games that only took out money. It was very obvious the games were rigged. Most of the items for sale were on the pricier side. For example, they had a ramune 6 pack for $15 dollars. No one greeted us when we walked in and the two people behind the counter were laughing about something completely ignoring us as we walked around the place and spend money in their rigged machines. read more

Between the multiple gacha claw machines and extensive selection of imported treats, beverages, clothing, and collectibles, the Gonzo store is a must visit, especially after filling up on some incredible ramen and/or curry from the nearby Gonzo restaurant. BE WEARY AND AWARE I want to start by saying I am not reviewing the Gonzo restaurant (they are lovely) NOR am I reviewing the staff, as they were of no relevance. I am an avid capsule and claw machine lover! As someone who has traveled a great deal, when I found out we were getting these machines in Carlsbad I was beyond excited. We need more to do downtown and this could be a great idea, however this is simply put; a cash grab. I don't mean to toot my own horn but I am pretty good at claw machines and always go home with a few prizes. That was not the case here, and I know you can't win every time but we spent $40 dollars here and played 40 times. This resulted in one win at the end and the item was damaged (the thread was loose and he fell apart). I was doing this for the kids so I tried to not say anything but after I talked to some friends in town they said the same. I use to run these machines in Japan and I know all about the settings, price points and win ratios. This is not it. The claws do grab which is great but they release a bit once they are up (time old trick) and most people who won said it was because the item was so near the edge it kinda fell in. I wouldn't normally post on something like this, I stick to food. However watching a my friend, single mum tonight, spend the money she didn't have to go for a second go round for the kids only to have it result in nothing after 40$ is insane. I've never seen anything like this aside from once in a tourist trap near the airport in Japan.. This review is simply to say at this time and date the machines are not set for wins but to encourage you to put more money in with to no avail and I want to help anyone who needs the win or their kids do to steer clear. If you want to play claw or capsule I would suggest the Carlsbad mall. They have a few little stops or in the old sears it has some great vendors and machines! read more
