The Big Shop is Lego heaven unless your kids are tired and losing their minds at the end of a long day at Legoland. Then it can kind of become Lego hell. I can't complain too much, though, as the promise of a toy store at Legoland allowed us to bypass the San Diego Zoo shop without incident. It was also a legitimately fantastic place, with an enormous, thorough inventory. I'm an adult Lego enthusiast, and I enjoyed seeing all the sets I'd ogled online. I saw several I wanted to buy, as well a few Lego-themed jigsaw puzzles, but I controlled myself. We were there for the boys, who were allowed one item apiece. Our sons are four and two, and they both went for the same stupid giant light-up sword within seconds of reaching The Big Shop. The Lego Group knows how to make money, and they know what they're doing putting these swords right at the entrance to their theme park gift shop. The swords dangled from two sides of a display stand, and one of my kids went left while the other went right, both of them drawn to the swords like Gollum to the precious ring. I didn't want to go home with two loud, cheap, plastic swords when we were surrounded by wonderful toys, and I managed, with great effort, to divert their interest and return the swords to their racks. I showed our four-year-old Leo all the cool Lego City sets and he picked a fire station before seeing the larger, more expensive Command Rover and Crane Loader. I was happy to pay for this, as it looked fun and was not a light-up sword. We got our toddler Wade a Duplo brick box that came with almost 100 bricks and a cute container, where we'd be able to stash all the Duplos already floating around our house. We paid for these toys, then instead of being grateful and happy, Leo threw a full-blown tantrum over the fucking sword. We held our ground, but it was a tough one. We had to carry him crying to the car. We were at Legoland with our friends, who also have two boys, and when we told them about the sword, the other mom said, yep, we have one of those. Turns out she'd had the same experience with their older child--denying the sword, facing the wrath--who then came back to Legoland with his grandparents and returned home with the sword in hand. Truly, the Lego Group is evil for this one. Our purchases have panned out, though, and I believe both boys are enjoying them more than they would have out the shiny but ultimately useless swords. Leo and I spend days building that rover, and it sparked a general interest in Legos, which has been a very positive development for me. Wade loves his Duplos, too, and is constantly playing with them and announcing, "I'm making a building!" Not a bad outcome, all told, and I look forward to our next visit to The Big Shop. We'll just have to get ready to vanquish those swords again. read more

This shop is awesome!! This is the biggest lego store in LegoLand, so definitely stop by! They have sets for beginners as well as experienced builders, and of every different topic. Things are expensive, but the same prices as every store in the park. Kind employees, and awesome that you can buy a huge reusable bag for only $2. read more

I was here with my friend and nephews for the first time. It was a Saturday and the store was packed. You would think there was a sale going on. It's larger than the Lego stores that are in malls and has some impressive displays. With it being packed with people, it was overwhelming that I just bought my item and got out as soon as I found my friend. Tips: They do not honor the points for you to collect for Lego VIP Rewards (if you've been ordering Legos outside of Legoland). They have "exclusive" items which were located left of the Duplo section but I didn't see anything unique there during this visit. They may have something different during different seasons but not at the time I had gone. I tried to shop at the store during the holidays but it was such a hassle to pay for parking and day ticket - plus you have to be out in an hour, that it was not worth it. You're better off ordering online and gain your VIP points there or the stores in the mall. read more

We decided to venture of out OC and headed down to Carlsbad. Our first stop was Legoland! Nope, it's not open, but The Big Shop was! And with a $25+ purchase, which was easily spent here, a group of up to four people could walk around Miniland. Annual Passholders and hotel guests get in free. My daughter LOVES LEGOS, so she was in LEGO Heaven!!! The store is HUGE and there's so much to choose from. The store is organized well and in sections such as Friends, Ninjago, Duplo, City, Creations, Star Wars, etc. There were even creations from LEGO Masters on display! Every time we are at Legoland, my kids ask me if I can buy them a Lego set at the Big Shop. This store is huge and it's full of all kinds of LEGOs. I bought a race car set the other day for $30 and the same exact one was $50 on Amazon. If you have an annual pass, you also get an additional 10% off so it's a better deal buying legos here compared to online or other stores. We usually stop by here on our way out of Legoland so that I won't have to carry the legos with me while we are inside the theme park. This shop is inside Legoland so you have to enter the theme park to be able to shop here. read more

You can find basically any Lego swag you can think of here. Awesome store with a ton of things. Good selection of toddler to kid friendly toys available. Backpacks were neat. The Big Shop is exactly what it sounds like, the largest LEGO Store in Legoland! Touted as having the best selection, I'm sorry to say I found this store was lacking in comparison to other large LEGO Stores I've visited. Despite this false-claim, they do have a ton of sets and accessories. Prices here are about typical with an average LEGO Store, definitely not the place to shop if you're looking for a deal. The store has cashiers on three sides, so it's easy and convenient to check out, regardless of how busy it is. Be sure to take a look through the Legoland area for park exclusives and seasonal items. At the opposite side of the store, be sure to see the "Hard to Find" items area. The Big Shop also has a ton of stock, especially for the various blind-bag items. If you're looking for some minifigures to finish a set, be sure to ask an associate to help you feel it out! Shout out to Barbara for all the assistance finishing my LEGO Batman Movie set, and Baruch for the fun conversation and helping us check out. Tip: if you're planning on buying any item, be sure to do it at the start of your day. All merchandise is 10% off before noon, and guest services will hold the bag for you until your exit from the park. (Guest Services is next to the Minifigure Market, opposite The Big Shop.) Also for those without admittance to the park but still wanting to shop here: The Big Shop offers a deal for non-pass holders. Spending $20 or more here, and have your $17 parking fee refunding upon exit. This deal is not valid for anyone actually enjoying the park, only stopping buy to shop. Direct marketing alert: The Big Shop does not mince words. It's big. It's a shop. You will shop big (especially if kids--who have been good all day and have forgotten everything you ever told them in life, save for that one time last week at church when you bargained with them that if they were on their best behavior and didn't hit their siblings with hymnals and rolled up church bulletins that you would MAYBE let them pick out something at Lego Land at the end of the day-- accompany you). Allegedly, shoppers before noon get 10% off their purchases, and they'll hold your bag for you until the end of the day. I wouldn't know, because shopping here is always a "dammit, we DID promise the kids, I guess" sort of thing at the end of the day. From the looks of the crowds inside, we have lots of company on the Parent-Fail Highway. Plenty of merchandise inside to choose from, but no more or less than another retail Lego store (isn't there one in Irvine? Maybe next time we'll promise the kids that we'll stop there on the way home... if they're awake and quiet. Bargaining with offspring seems to be a hobby of mine.) How many different foam swords, maces, and medieval weapons--with a magic, flame-wielding flare--can my three year old own? Apparently one more each trip. That little toe-head that just hit you in the tenders with a polystyrene axe as you exited the park? Yeah, probably mine. Anyway, stop in here and buy a big set, or grab-bag pieces, or minifigures, or whatever floats your Lego Boat. Chances are good you'll most fully enjoy your purchases in the near future when you find them underfoot at 2 AM, or trying to pry them out of the vacuum cleaner hose with a coat hanger. This is a huge Lego store located right inside the main entrance of Legoland. They have a large variety of Lego sets. Plenty of souvenirs. The staff was friendly and helpful. Since it's found inside Legoland, set prices are a bit higher. I took the kids and bought stuff anyways. I think I spent a bit over $100 for souvenirs for 3 kids. It wasn't too bad. read more

This shop is just inside Legoland, to the right of the entrance when you're walking in. Can I say WOW. I have never seen so many sets in my life! To say they had a large variety is selling the inventory/store short. From $3 mini figures to a set worth $100s. If you're staying at the hotel, best bet is to go first thing or mid day. The last hour before the park closes, the place is a mad house! Comparing prices, items are NOT marked up here like at other parks. You will more than likely not find the same sets at your local lego store or find it cheaper on Amazon. We did the comparison via the Amazon app right there in the store when J was looking to buy a rather $$$ set. So if you find a set you've had your eye on, buy it! read more

Shopped here a year ago when I was inside Legoland, though I didn't realize the store was on Yelp as well. (Didn't work when I attempted to check-in at the time). Calling it the "big" shop fits the bill here. Store is about what you'd expect inside of a themed park gift shop - busy, pricey, and full of merchandise. As one reviewer pointed out, the items (Lego sets, etc) here are not higher priced as opposed to what they would be normally outside of here. Lego can be and is expensive anywhere (depending on the set(s)) but what you'd find at a Toys R Us or online, the same price will be found here more or less (some cases a few bucks cheaper or about the same depending on where you shop - I did check).......which is a break considering the many expenses of the actual Legoland park. I walked the entire store and they did have more than what the average Lego Store would have. So above most theme park gift shops, this is one of the rare exceptions as far as gift shop pricing go. When we went, it was chaotic and crowded. The staff were friendly enough despite the crowds. We flew in from NY, so getting a large set of Legos wasn't going to work for us - so our son got a t-shirt and 2 books, which wasn't too bad at all. Whether you're a fan of Legos or not, most should appreciate the merchandise and set up of the store. Naturally if you're inside the park, you should surely check this store out - even just to browse. read more

This is the main Lego store located within Legoland Park, right by the main entrance. Having visited various theme parks, I've gotten used to the fact that souvenirs purchased from park stores are usually overpriced. I usually eschew purchases within parks, and tell the kids that we'll go to Target or Toys R Us to buy them a souvenir when we get home. The Big Shop at Legoland is an exception to this rule. In some cases, it can be a big exception. This is a Lego lover's paradise. I've been to Lego stores in shopping malls, but they all pale in comparison to this place. In addition to being crammed with building sets encompassing all their active lines, they also carry a lot of limited edition sets that are difficult to come by in other retail stores. For example, I bought my son Nuckal's ATV, a limited edition set that is part of the new Ninjago line. I paid $25. It's not at the local Lego store, and on Amazon it's $37. We also picked up a Lego camper and a couple other sets, all priced slightly below Amazon's list prices. It's too bad that this store does not participate in the VIP program that is available through the Lego stores at the mall. read more

It will be a huge draw for the kids, so parents beware, your kids will beg, promise and cajole something out of you if you aren't strong. And for the kids in all of us? I had to tear myself away from the Star Wars Millennium Falcon. Because in that moment I was Hans Solo and I needed it. I'm the furthest from a impulsive consumer but that'll tell you how strong the pull of something like this can be. No judgement, there's actually nothing wrong with any of the stuff but I just gotta say I felt the urges rise and I had to walk away! Okay this review is all about Mary!! My family and I just had a long two days at Legoland and we always finish out the trip by stopping by the Big Shop! I always get something for the people who helped watch my dog at home and my two boys. Right now, my older boy (4) is all about Ninjago, who can blame him? So we go over to the Ninjago section and he says he wants a Lloyd toy (green ninja). We look through and find 2 Lloyd toys, one for $40 and one for $60, both way too complex for my kiddo, aka too many pieces for me to put together for him to break it after 6 minutes. So, as a standard 4 year old, he's sad that he couldn't find a Lloyd lego toy. As a soft hearted dad, I send my wife and boys off to check out the rest of the store while I search for Lloyd. Unable to find anything else in budget and ability, I stumble across the mini figure stand that has hundreds of packages of Ninjago figures! Though it is a mystery as to which one you will get and I wasn't feeling too outrageously lucky! As I start to make my random guess, I am stopped by an associate named Mary who asked me if I was looking for one in particular. I said that I was searching for Lloyd. She said oh he's a popular one, I know someone who can find him for you. This definitely peaked my interest, I didn't care if I had to go to the back alley to buy a Lloyd mini figure from someone's trunk, I wasn't leaving until we got the green ninja! So she leaves and comes back with another associate named Mary R. who is one of the nicest and kind hearted people I've ever met in a customer facing position. She asked who I was looking for, I told her my son really loves the green ninja. She said, "oh it's for your boy over there? Don't you worry, I'll find him". Immediately, she starts picking up the bags of mini figures and she's feeling the bags out of memory of what's inside and after a few seconds, she tells me which figure that was, explains how she knows and tosses it to the side. She did this for about 10 minutes, going through what must have been 100+ figures. The smile never left her face and she was as friendly as could be the entire time. She found a Lloyd and said, "this is just the regular Lloyd, I know he wants the ninja version. Hold onto it just in case we go through ALL of these and can't find one." She goes back at it and I'm amazed at how quickly she's able to determine which figure each one was. Without realizing it, I say wow out loud. She says, I'm determined now, all I ask is that if I find him, I get a nice big smile (looking at my son). After a few more packages, she looks at my son and asks, "which one is your favorite again?" "Lloyd is my favorite", he says. "Lloyd the ?", she asks. "Lloyd the ninja!" he answers excitedly. "I hope you have a smile ready, because here's your Lloyd the ninja!" Anyone else would've stopped after a few bags, said they were out or especially would've stopped after finding the normal Lloyd. But no, she continued, as happy as could be until she made my boys day. Thank you so much Mary R. You singlehandedly made my entire family extremely happy and put the perfect exclamation point on an already awesome trip! read more

Very disappointed with this store. I bought a hoodie 5 days ago but its color changed. I asked them to exchange or to get a store credit but they rejected, because I didn't have a receipt. I understand that I can't return it but don't understand why I can't get exchange or a store credit. read more
