Gong Cha isn't usually my go-to, but I decided to give it another shot since they now offer a new XL size. Not all drinks come in the big size--only select teas--so I went with the Passion Fruit. The size is great for those who want more bang for their buck, but the tea itself was still very sweet, even after asking for less sugar. I'd recommend the staff double-check the cup before handing it over--mine was quite sticky and could've used a quick wipe. Gong Cha really needs to work on consistency and service. With so many better bubble tea options out there, they can't afford to slack on the basics. One star off for the overly sweet tea and sticky presentation. Being one of the closest bubble tea spots near me it's my go-to. Reliable and decent. GongCha being a big chain has made its mark. Im sure there are other decent spots but you can never go wrong with the passion fruit bubble tea whenever in need of a treat. It's a small shop to just grab and go although they do offer a table to stand/lean on to have your drink inside. It's perfect treat before you're commute. Ambiance isn't instagrammable again a good grab and go spot for boba while in flushing. My go-to order at KFT and Vivi's is red bean + bubbles + milk combination. Gong Cha doesn't have it, but when I asked how much that would be, the cashier said $4.36 ($4 including tax). Not bad. However, I thought I might as well follow their menu and therefore ordered the Matcha Milk Tea with Red Bean, which came out to $4.63 (including tax) but no bubbles in it :( . I used to think Gong Cha was slightly cheaper, but uh guess not and the size, combined with taste weren't worth. First time here, I got the Taro Milk tea. I first noticed the tea was a bit more expensive. Like other areas charge around four dollars something for a medium size with bubbles. Here they charged over five dollars but I didn't mind because I see this place in videos online and everywhere so it must be worth it. The first thought that came to mind when I drank it was that the consistency was creamier than the other places. The taro element was more faint as the milky flavor overrode it. Wasn't a big fan of that but overall I could see why this place is so successful. The bubbles were definitely the smoothest I had in a bubble tea. I havent had my coffee, so dropped by this place since it was the closest place to get a drink. what i needed was an iced coffee but then realized why would i get an iced coffee from a place like this. if i wanted iced coffee, i couldve went to a chinese bakery like tai pan or fay da. A friend and I went in. I had no idea what i wanted, so i looked at the popular choices and the one that came to me was the lemon yogurt. Ordered a large with 50% sugar and regular ice. Its cool that you can choose your level of sweetness and ice amount. I cant see anyone getting lots of ice, since you are paying the same amount. Lemon yogurt was pretty good although next time I would prob reduce the level of sweetness. Im typically a sweet type of person, but 50% to me was too sweet. Interesting variety of Tea flavors and topping has distinguished Gong Cha from other bubble tea places. My personal favorite is Milk Foam with Wintermelon Tea with less ice, 50% sugar. It is like condensed milk cream...so yummy. I stumble upon this teahouse this morning on my way to finding T-Swirl Crepe. Haha...funny story. So the T-Swirl Crepe stand sign was outside this established so when I went in I was like "what the hell, Gong Cha...ummmm I am in the wrong place." But of course not wanting to look stupid and walk right out I decided to look at their menu and order a drink. Let me tell you, I am glad I did and also glad I accidentally stumble into this newly open place cause their drink is AWESOME! I ordered the Hot Foaming Milk Green Tea with 50% sugar and extra foam (Tip : check in on yelp and you get a free extra foam for any foaming milk drink). My drink was delicious with just the right sweetness. I am not sure about the other drinks but if you are a green tea lover like me, this drink will not disappoint. The second thing I love about their drinks is the lid for the cups. Unique plastic reusable lids with safety opening that you can save. What a bonus! Will be saving my lid to use with other cups...hahaha... Jasmine Green tea - less ice, less sugar. My favorite drink has a strong tea base, subtle aroma of jasmine, and is balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. I remember back in the day when I had bubble tea during my middle school/ high school days ( wow i feel old lol), bubble tea was so popular and so good! Since then bubble tea is still popular but the tea is so watered down that you don't taste anything. This really disappointed me but gong cha is different. The tea is strong so you taste the flavors and I absolutely love this. What is even better is that the price is cheaper compared to other brands. This is my go-to bubble tea spot on my way home from the subway. I can't count how many times I've been here but am quite sure 80% of the time I ordered Lychee Oolong Tea. Gong Cha is the only place that has this flavor. It's really refreshing and not too sweet. I'd recommend the Brown Sugar series as well. However, their basic milk tea is not that impressive. Worst experience ever, the girls attitude at the cashier was absolute trash and it felt like I owe her money or something. Literally before I walked in she was still taking an order from someone else, and when I went it she stared at me and said with an attitude "oh sorry, we're closed." Terrible service. Busy with flirting each other and didn't even mention that they don't have coconut jelly when i ordered. Just didn't add it and told us that they didn't charge. I could have added something thing else if they told us that they were out of coconut jelly. Also they forgot my bubbles on my bubble tea! So i went back and they simply added on top. Visiting NYC, we stopped by this particular Gong Cha twice. I've tried the oolong tea, oolong milk tea, earl gray latte (my favorite- it has a sweet fruity taste), and the brown sugar milk tea. It's very clean, and while small, service is fast. The milk tea is creamy and delicious, while the boba is some of the best I've ever had. Gong cha makes really yummy tasting tea but they are completely unable to get the order right. They just don't listen or care. We have gone to gong cha on three separate occasions. The first time around they forgot the "milk" part of our milk tea, the second time around they forgot the jelly and still overcharged us (charged for 3 sides when we ordered two and ended with just one); and the third and final time they forgot the pudding and gave us very little tapioca. This place is SO inconsistent that it's laughable. The first time I ever had their Earl Grey Milk Tea with grass jelly, tapioca and something else, I was floored. Before this, I always ordered milk tea at Kung Fu Tea because I loved their flavor. But a sip of the Gong Cha's Earl Grey had me changing my tune. HOWEVER, the next time I went and ordered the same thing, it was noticeably different and tasted off. I attribute this to the fact that the first time I went, the owner was present and the second time I went, there were a bunch of teenagers serving/hanging out. These teenage employees also had their groupie friends hanging out in the shop and in front of the shop, smoking and causing raucous, which turned potential customers off. My advice to the owner - hire a better crew or else I can't imagine your shop will stay around much longer. There's another Gong Cha location within New World Mall that I may try out but it looks like I will be going back to my dependable Kung Fu Tea. read more

Tried their popular Earl Grey Milk Tea and while I definitely enjoyed the creamy texture, the tea flavor was weak and underwhelming.

This tea shop seems to have potential for growth. I enjoy the variety on their menu, and friendly associates. I would say that the drinks I've tried here do taste/look somewhat noticeably different than the other places I've tried. For example, the Taro Milk Tea taste a bit more grainy and creamery, but taste great. I was surprised that they had Lychee Milk Tea also, as it did taste much different then the one I usually order from Chattime. The Lychee flavor seems to be more intense and maybe a little too overpowering for me. Overall, I would say the flavors of the drinks are just a Tad bit more intensifying than most bubble tea shops. They also have a rewards card which you get credit for every time you purchase a drink. Keeps me coming back! read more
