But, recently, we've been visiting this establishment a lot less frequently just because the drinks never seem to be consistent in flavor. Take the Kumquat Lemon Jasmine Green Tea, for example. On some occasions, it's prepared perfectly, with a balanced combination of flavors that works, resulting in a delightful and refreshing drink experience. On other occasions, however, the taste is noticeably different and in some instances, funky, in fact. After a few times, it just felt like a gamble in terms of the establishment being able to deliver a satisfying drink and in terms of the value received for the price being paid. I got the ube milk tea with taro cream puff and honey lemon jasmine green tea. I really wanted to like the drinks, but I did not taste the ube in the milk tea at all (has almost a medicine aftertaste). I ended up throwing away the drink after a couple of sips. The honey lemon jasmine tea was better--it was refreshing, but maybe a tad too sweet for my liking. Also, I could not taste the jasmine green tea much (so it tasted more like honey and lemon water). I am often less enthusiastic with the food (#2) but I have learned that I enjoy their drinks too much to go out of my way to get something. In my opinion, a distinct advantage to the food court over others is the fact they're sporting a Happy Lemon. Yes, it's that good. I would normally just say order whatever on the menu, but some of the more outstanding drinks for me include: * ANY of the drinks in the Fresh Lemon Series (black, green, honey green) are perfect. * Light oolong salted cheese and especially the strawberry jasmine tea with salted cheese. * Kiwi matcha latte * Of the slushies, the kumquat lemon and peppermint lemon are worth it. Happy Lemon is located in the food court of Queens Crossing. The drinks cost a little bit more than I am used to but they offer some unique and interesting combinations. I tried the lemon yakult with aloe without realizing what yakult was (it's those small fermented milk drinks you find in Asian supermarkets). I found the drink very good and refreshing, however it was hard to get all aloe chunks due to similarly sized ice chunks. Everytime I tried to suck up aloe chunk I wound up with ice. With a little rearranging, this could be named after how delighted the owner is to have fired Melanie (Happy No Mel), or how I feel about large cantaloupes (Happy Melon), but instead we have this concept which - I assume - in East Asia is completely typical and ordinary. However in the USA, it's unique, original, and somewhat bizarre. Inside the NY Mall Food Court, which is on the North side of Roosevelt, one and a half blocks west of main. It's in the back, on the right. Other highlights of the court include Mango Mango Dessert. The concept of Happy Lemon is, well... sour lemony drinks and slushies of all sorts, which make you squint your eyes from the bitterness and break out in a big Happy Lemon smile from the hyper sugariness. I've tried at least 5 things off their menu and I still can't tell you what I like here. I certainly like to add different fruits to the lemon because otherwise it's more sour than the girl in the Stone Temple Pilots song with Sarah Michelle Gellar (the girl you downloaded pix of in your parent's cellar when you were a braindead AOL-er). The lemon mango drink and the originality just about edge this place over the line to 5/5, but it's close, and I'm a bit disappointed by the spit guard they wear sometimes because I enjoy (and dearly miss) the taste of employee spit which really adds texture. First off if you haven't tried their lemon series, you must give it a shot! It is so refreshing and packed with flavor. I've tried both the lemon pineapple and lemon mango slush. I ordered the small salted cheese green tea drink. They had chocolate but I didn't think that would taste good. It surprisingly was not that salty and still a little sweet. I could still taste the green tea. There was a lot of cheese foam that remained in the cup that I didn't bother drinking at the end. There's nothing special about the drinks, and it does taste on oar with any other tea shop place. So no complaints there. The tea is sometimes not consistent, at times it won't taste sweet, and other times it'll be too sweet. However, they do take the drink back if it is not to your satisfaction, and thus earning them 4 stars for this review. I used to come here a lot, but not anymore after finding a moldy lemon floating in my drink. As with most Asian tea houses, a drink will set you back about $4-$6. But, this isn't just any tea shop. This place specializes in making lemon beverages. And, they use actual lemons. It's not lemon syrup. I used to order the lemon slush (which comes with jelly) or the handcrafted lemon black/green tea with aloe vera which is made with a quarter of a cup of grinded lemon slices. For those that are familiar with other milk foams or sea salt creams it's similar but a little thicker. It's "cheese" but is a sweet cheese almost like cheesecake, with a thick layer on top of your drink and then a sea salt sprinkle giving it that salty and sweet taste. Their menu is very expansive and offers many options. Their other specialty are lemon-y drinks. If you like lemony drinks then you will definitely enjoy this. LEMON HONEY GREEN TEA - this is what I always get. I'm pretty sure they squeeze actual lemons inside because it has such a fresh, refreshing lemon taste. It's a bit on the tart side but not too bad. The honey green tea blend perfectly for a very nice drink, that is one of my favorites and hard to find elsewhere. The boba is also pretty good, not too sweet, chewy and a little on the small side but nonetheless good. We came in at around 9:39 pm and the place was listed to close at 10 pm. We asked the cashier if they took card and they said they only take cash. I left my wallet at work so I had to count out some coins and use some of my friend's cash to have enough. I did this in front of the cashier at the closest table just less than 2 feet away. By the time we counted out enough money, they said they were closed. This was at 9:45pm. Of course I felt bad I had to count out my money to pay for a drink. We are very sorry about that, but we felt that it was very rude not to tell us to at least hurry up to order before they closed. They made no indication that they were about to close the register. They even answered our question if they take credit card. Why didn't they tell us that they were about to close and cannot take anymore orders? Telling us they were closed right after we had counted out the money right in front of them came off very rude and disrespectful. I rarely write reviews like this, but the experience here was too rude not to let other customers know about the unprofessional behavior of the store's associates. Please consider going to the other Happy Lemon location in Flushing. Got the mango lemon slush ($4.25) with lychee jelly, and I couldnt be more satisfied! The slush tasted puply, and had some sort of clear jelly pudding on top of my added topping (+$0.50). I will definitely order it again during the summer! My friend got the salted cheese with chocolate ($4.00), and it tasted like a less sweet chocolate milkshake. The thick white cheese foam needs to be mixed with the chocolate, and to do so you need to lift your straw up above the foam, and then back down to take a sip. It wasn't too salty, and it was actually pretty yummy (couldn't taste much of the cheese tbh). My friend also got the lemon slush ($3.75) and said it was a little too sour for her liking.
