This is probably one of the worst Gong Cha locations - while the staff are friendly and willing to remake your beverage(s) if they're inaccurate or you're not satisfied with it, the drinks in general are just not properly made. I had the Grapefruit Yogurt drink, but this was super watered down and there was no grapefruit or yogurt flavor - it seems as if some weird-tasting syrup was used, but this tasted nothing like any of the other Gong Chas. I also tried the Brown Sugar Milk Tea with the bubbles - this was just plain awful. It seemed like it was mostly milk, and the 'brown sugar' syrup that they used had a weird chemical-like taste to it. The bubbles seemed to be overly cooked and were a bit too mushy. Ample seating inside with some board games available. Parking is a shared lot, but it is a tight squeeze. One of my favorite bubble tea places in the area! The tea flavor is strong, the sweetness adjustments are just right, and the variety is vast. In case you get overwhelmed, the friendly staff are always willing to answer questions and if available, they'll let you sample a flavor. My personal favorites are green tea with strawberry milk foam, strawberry milk green tea, earl grey milk tea, passionfruit sparkling, & the classic black milk tea with grass jelly. You can adjust the sugar and ice levels, and 30% sweetness is just right for me. They also offer a rewards program - we always end up getting a free drink every now and then, keeps us coming back for more! For the quality, the prices are pretty good. Additionally, their bubble waffles are delicious! Somehow they manage to make it crispy yet the inside is soft & chewy. This business made my day! The Grapefruit Ai-Yu with white pearl is one of the best drinks I've ever tasted. I had never tasted Ai-Yu jelly, so having that in my drink was a nice culinary adventure. Also, in the Arlington area, I frequently looked for grapefruit bubble tea but rarely could get it; finding it in Annandale was a nice surprise. I definitely will come back and order it again. The egg waffle was another new experience. I loved the super eggy taste and this plus bubble tea constituted my lunch. In search of new flavors, I ordered not one but two bubble teas on this outing. Honestly, I didn't like this place when I first got it but I think it gets progressively better the more I try it, but maybe that could be due to acquired taste buds? Here is basically the tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bobas. The first time I got the oolong milk tea and I thought it was very watered down and didn't taste like milk tea. The second time I got the black milk tea and it was just okay. I feel like if I decrease the sugar level, then the taste of tea with the milk also diminishes, which doesn't really make sense to me because I typically get less sugar at other places and the essential milk tea flavor remains the same. The third time, I got the dirty milk tea, which is basically a classic milk tea with brown sugar and this is my favorite of all time! I feel like their milk teas lack flavor that the brown sugar makes up for. I would recommend only get 50% sugar or less since brown sugar is typically really sweet and remember to mix up your drink really well or else you'll just get a straw full of brown sugar. After 25 minutes, I went up front and asked about how my order was coming along - and found that it hadn't even been started because no one bothered to pull it from the system! All in all, I stood around for over half an hour, waiting for someone to pour some winter melon tea. The kindest people I've ever encountered. **when ordering drinks at this location make sure you inquire about the sweetness level....I cannot imagine this drink at 100% sweetness just because my 50% sweet was too sweet for me** In general, so far this place isn't my favorite overall just because they don't have the options I would like- for example non dairy milk or mini pearls. I did however love the new strawberry milk foam! It is a little costly, a medium strawberry fresh milk green tea with half pudding half strawberry jelly and strawberry milk foam cost me a little less than $7. It is nice they have customization of sugar levels and ice, but I expect that at this rate! Gong Cha never disappoints me! I was super excited to hear that Gong Cha was going to be opening in Annandale, since I travel to Northern Virginia very frequently. I consider Gong Cha as one of the more authentic bubble tea places. My go-to drinks are Earl Grey Milk with 3 J's (comes with boba, herbal jelly, and pudding), but this drink becomes very filling with all the toppings. I didn't see the Dirty Brown Sugar Milk Tea (with Milk Form) that I usually order back at home in New Jersey. Not many places offer Purple Sweet Potato Black Milk Tea, so I was open to trying something new. I'm not sure if it was the owner who took my order, but he was very helpful with recommendations. He mentioned that the drink was not very sweet and recommended getting 100% sweetness, which was what I ordered. I thought the drink was okay. It still wasn't sweet enough for me and it tasted really starchy. He was super nice and offered to make me another drink as a replacement. I was very happy and satisfied with the Brown Sugar Milk Tea. The brown sugar just gives the milk tea a more flavorful kick and it'll probably be my go-to order. Customer Service: A+++++++++ I love the cozy environment. They have sofas and tables with board games (Connect 4, Jenga). Their interior design is very modern. I wanted to notify management, but I was already in the car driving towards I-495 to go home during rush hour. -No loyalty rewards program. -Did I mention that 1 of 2 drinks tasted like rotten freezer burned ice cream? I love Gong Cha. The tea here is really good and high quality. I got the ginger brown sugar milk tea with bubbles. You could taste the fresh ginger inside of the tea. It was strong which is what I like. Also, I felt like it was perfectly sweet. I got 30% sugar. I also loved how the bubbles were soft and chewy. The only complaint that I have is that the parking lot is extremely dangerous. We almost got into multiple accidents while we were trying to find parking. This place is small and kind of loud but the smell of waffles right when you walk in makes you dream of being served breakfast in bed by Prince Charming. The matcha waffle: so good. Huge fan of Gong Cha and their drinks. I've tried a variety of their drinks but keep going back to their yogurt series!! My favorite is the peach - definitely get less sugar or it'll be too sweet. It's light, fruity and is pretty much the perfect summer drink. Do note that they do use real milk in their milk teas (no substitutes!) for those of you who are lactose sensitive. The last time I was in, I tried the egg waffle! Not sure if it's available in all locations, or just this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. A friend and I shared, and we agreed that it was definitely enough for two. We chose the original flavor for the waffle, but it also does come in chocolate and matcha! Price is a little bit more up there than what I would normally pay for but it's good and still makes me cha-cha-cha. Tea is nicely brewed and very fragrant, and helps give that caffeine kick. One comment I do have is that they have plexi glass up at their registers. They have a hard time hearing the order so I did get one order partially wrong but was also too impatient to stay and get it corrected. I stopped by this location very briefly to pick up a brown sugar bubble tea, and was not disappointed! My drink was made very quickly (within 5 mins) and there was nothing wrong with it. I really like how Gongcha makes their bubbles - they're a great texture and they don't stick together at all. If you are planning on getting the brown sugar drinks, though, I definitely recommend lowering the sweetness level. read more

The tea is fresh and tasty (I particularly like the lychee-based drinks), the boba is perfect, and the ambiance is cute. Like many similar places, you can moderate the amount of ice/sugar, which is awesome. Love that there's a Gong Cha in VA now! It's my first time trying the white pearls and they're perf for those that don't like tapioca like myself. It's like a jelly texture shaped into a ball to replicate the typical boba drink. The interior here is super cute, I love how it's like a home-vibe with sofas and mini games to play while enjoying your bubble tea. I came in not knowing what to get but i was recommended the strawberry milk tea which tastes exactly like the korean banana milk but with strawberry flavor! Definitely get your drinks a little less sweet since they tend to be a bit sweeter (my personal preference is to get it less sweet since I'm not a fan of super sweet things). So I've visited here three times within the span of 10 days since they grand opened. The drinks here are respectable. In terms of fulfilling your late night boba cravings, yet also have a good variety of fruity drinks that aren't too sweet and don't taste too artificial. The milk tea don't have too much of a tea flavor, so if you dig that milky over tea taste this is the place for you! I for one really dig the toppings like basil seeds and aiyu jelly- that aren't typically offered at other boba shops! They even have strawberry milk foam- which sounds really interesting and something I'm down to try one day! Also I dont know if this was my luck or what, but they really got the boba to tea ratio right- I finished my tea AND the bobas at the same time which was satisfying and I luv. The service is also really friendly and open to answering questions! TLDR: Love and will come here for the milk foam with teas, and white pearl (crystal boba) as an alternate topping to the regular bubbles. Still getting the operation down and can be a bit of a wait for drinks but with time they will be faster. Not a lot of slush options but got popular ones like mango and taro (that I still need to try sometime). I have the honor to be a part of the grand opening with my lion dance troupe to help commemorate another bubble tea joint joining the neighborhood of bobas in Annandale. The place definitely got off on the right foot and got a good crowd going once they are officially open for business, and will be very interesting to see how the overall rivalry goes between Gong Cha and Kung Fu Tea (as well as the other bubble tea businesses). As always, I would get the normal milk tea from all the different bubble tea shop and see how the iconic drink fare, and with Gong Cha, theirs are more on the milky side and the taste of the tea isn't as prominent as compared to some other places; I would say their milk tea is most similar to one that I drank from Share Tea in the US, which I would say is enjoyable in most but not every occasion. My favorite would have to be their milk foam with any of the tea drinks, especially the oolong and winter melon tea. The sweetness to salt ratio is done just right, and it has the best consistency out of all the bubble tea places that I've tried and I will always be thirstea for it! I have been growing fond of white pearls (crystal boba in some places) and I'm happy to see that Gong Cha has that toppings as an option, because their regular bubbles isn't ranked at the top for me in terms of its texture and taste. For me, a shop doesn't have to get everything right for me to rate it highly, as long as it got something that I would keep coming back for with decent enough customer service then it's golden in my book! In terms of the speed of service, I definitely see rooms for improvement. I got my drinks in about 10 minutes after waiting in the long line, which is understandable but I know they can get it down to less than 5 minutes of wait time even in a line out the door traffic under normal circumstances (i.e. the person before me didn't order like 10 drinks, which would then be understandable for them to follow the call order and get that knocked out of the way then get to my drink). In terms of the menu and menu option, I would say that it takes some getting used to to navigate the menu as the sections title isn't very telling of what the section entails (i.e. Creative tea section contains mostly fruity drinks from my understanding but it's not easy to tell by just reading the section title), and their slush options are definitely lacking in comparison to some other stores, with only a few of the standard popular ones (mango, taro), and the purple potato one that I still need to try. I foresee that during summer this will work a little bit against them but we will see if I'm wrong! Overall, I think it's great to have a new bubble tea place to explore so close to my home! read more
