Gomez offers their legendary "Turtles" that satisfies any craving of Mexican cuisine you may have. The portions are excellent and well-worth the price you pay. The level of customization helps even the most picky eater find something to devour. My only complaint is their process where a client is to pick up their order could be more organized and structured more to avoid order theft and accidents. I have been waiting a long time to try Gomez. I am not from cinci but was in the area this weekend. I was so happy Gomez was exactly as I was imagining. The turtle is this makeshift burrito taco combo- like a crunch wrap supreme filled with goodness. I got the chorizo turtle - Gomez style. The flavor was phenomenal. It was wrapped well and easy to eat. I liked it so much I came back the next day and tried the southwestern chicken style turtle. I love this place ! Literally so much - their turtle is unmatched and so so good. However I'm giving 3 stars bc i was a little disappointed with my recent visit POST Covid - as a disclaimer I'm in no way trying to be the COVID police but I think it's really important in a food service place right now to be careful (I work in food service). The person at the counter didn't have there mask on most of the time and was eating food in front of everyone, also someone from the back staff came out with no mask or gloves on - which is a little concerning. I like the turtle at this place. This crispy outer shell is delicious. This time I tried it with barbacoa (I don't know why). This is a leaner meat and maybe subsequently extremely dry and bland to me. I love the Baja sauce, but you will need to purchase extra to have enough for your entire sandwich. Maybe because I didn't try the late night turtle menu I actually didn't get the full experience everyone raves about. Early in the morning I tried the breakfast taco. It was big but it was only just fine. It was only lukewarm and it was rather dry. They were generous with chorizo and gave several options to pick your salsa. But there wasn't much 'zip' to the dish. I mean this place is literally built for drunk people. You walk up to an outdoor window and place your food. It fills you up and gets you where you need to go. Street Vendor style which you fill out a form and turn it in at the window. I like the fact that you can order your meal and if you want to have drinks at Half Cut, they will deliver your meal to you. The menu itself is very simple and not overwhelming. You circle your selection and you can pick up to 4 items (Taco $3.00, Bowl $7.00, Turtle $8.00). Your fillers are Barbacoa, chicken, carnitas, fish, tofu, chorizo, or vegetarian. You choose your compliments of either cheese, lettuce, slaw guacamole or sour cream. Salsas: -Corn: Mildest -Gomez: House Pico -Verde: Mild Spicy -Pineapple: Spicy Sweet -Kowabunga: Fire For additional $.50 you can also get Ranch, hot sauce, baja sauce, pickled onions or bacon jam. You can make it a combo for $2.00 extra and chips & salsa to go are $5.00. For dinner I got up to 3 items. All tacos (shell-flour). My fillers were two fish and tofu tacos. Compliments were cheese, lettuce and guacamole and salsa gomez. All three tacos for only $9.00. We probably only waited 10 minutes and our meals were delivered to Half Cut. The staff was very friendly, patient and helpful. My food was just right! I enjoyed everything to the last bite. Fish was fresh and my tofu was cooked just the way I liked (not mushy). My sister in law had a side of chips and guacamole. She wanted to share so I tried it and love the flavor of the guacomole and chips were awesome too! I highly recommend eating here! Gomez Salsa shines like a beacon in the Cincinnati night. There must be some mystical gravitational beam pulling people in here because it's such a easy place to miss, yet everyone seems to magically run into it. First things first. The food here is redonkulous. It's the stuff of legend. I have dreams about it sometimes. In all seriousness, the food is delectable. The "Turtle Shell", or simply turtle for short, is the star attraction here. A perfectly crisp tortilla wrapped ingeniously around the ingredients of your choice. No limit of toppings, one singular price of $8. Haven't personally had the tacos yet but have heard from friends that they are right on par. Located right next to Halfcut marries the two establishments perfectly. As Forest Gump would say they "are like Peas and Carrots". Bring in your grub, and even grab a drink while your waiting for your food. They will come over and bring it to you! A small gripe, and one that everyone seems to have, is the ordering system. It's way to hard, even for the non-inebriated. The little confusing menu is like trying to play pin the tail on the donkey, in a hurricane, with a pack of rabid dogs chasing you...it's hard. I usually just ask Gomez himself (always working the window) to surprise me and make whatever, instead of having to deal with the menu. If they can sure up the ordering system this place will be absolute perfection. If you're roaming around OTR and get a hankering for some good Mexican food, make sure and stumble on over to Gomez. While visiting from out of town I heard multiple recommendations about how wonderful this place is, and they did not disappoint! It seems to be a big hit for the late night crowd, we went two nights in a row around 12am each night and had to go inside instead of order at the window. There isn't that much seating so if you'd like to eat there you kinda have to get lucky but they serve your order in a to go box regardless so it's up to you to decide when you get your food if you will stay or go to eat. We tried the turtle which is AMAZING!!! I had the buffalo chicken and the southwest. Both were delicious and had their own unique taste. Buffalo is your typical buffalo sauce with slight kick but not overpowering. Both come with a side to dip or you can order a different type for 50 cents. I felt like the southwest had a nice kick as well. Beer is also served on tap. Service was friendly & relatively fast considering there's always a line when you arrive. The first night we were there they ran out of the turtles so beware- if you go too late you might miss out. If I could give this place 10 stars I would! read more
