Worth it! Brenda was very knowledgeable and patient. She was able to quickly diagnose my swing and give feedback which was concise and effective. Apparently I have been holding the club so wrong that I was more likely to get tendinitis than that effortless looking swing that makes the ball travel like 250+ yards every time. When I swung as instructed, I really felt as though I was holding the club in a very unnatural position but it worked very effectively. Ball was going straight, pretty far, and pretty often...I almost felt like I was watching it happen but it was not me. My friend thought it was pretty awesome too. This was my first lesson with Jay in his studio, Golf Code 360. We spent a good amount of time talking about my past instructors and how I have developed as a player. I personally like this approach as there's a history/evolution of my swing and what I am currently struggling with, which all helps the instructor know where I am coming from. Jay teaches a biomechanical swing in a program that he has developed. He was very clear from the start that his program would help me develop an efficient swing based on the laws of physics. I've had much success with a biomechanical instructor in the past, so I was eager and excited to hear more. He explained the program/swing in detail and it got me thinking that I would be able see success with his program just with a few sessions. We then got me hitting balls with an iron of my choice, of which I picked a 7 iron into one of his simulators. I haven't done many lessons on simulators solely (been on trackmans many times) but I did really like the immediate feedback it gave me, especially being able to see the characteristics of my common flight pattern and misses. Luckily that day, I was able to repeat what my typical swing is like in decent form! Immediately after hitting about a dozen balls, Jay gave me a breakdown of his analysis. What I can say for sure, is that Jay has remarkable sense of processing what he sees immediately in combination with the flight monitor numbers. In the very short time of hitting just for less than five minutes, he detailed what he saw in my swing. I believe we first spoke about my typical swing which is a draw and my misses would be hook about 10-20 yards left of my target. We then got into my setup and he explained how I could adjust my setup to be more biomechanically efficient. He is the first instructor to ever point out EXACTLY how I was bending over to my address. To my surprise, I was not bending over properly from one point of my hips and instead in three areas: lower part of hips, upper part of hips, and shoulder. Man, this alone was worth this lesson. All good swings start with a proper foundation and this is something I needed to correct (which I have been working on over the weeks). We then got into grip and how inconsistently I was gripping the club which created sometimes the dreaded hook. Now the final point which is the cherry on top: He explained the biomechanical swing standing straight up and how the swing was just shoulders turning and arms folding back and through but with lower body engaged. He then demonstrated how it was the same thing but with the proper bent over position. What I was doing was not the same. I was moving my arms up and down which is re-routing my plane. I've been playing the game for a while now, so I am able to repeat with this re-routing but does it make sense to make things more complicated than it needs to be? For me, I want to make my swing as simple as possible to repeat, so this was great info and news for me. Without making this review any longer as it is, I'll simply say that I have had a lot of prior thoughts and research around this subject, but Jay was able to answer them for me in this session. Jay is an exceptional golf coach. I've been golfing for 7 years and had 3 previous golf instructors from Pasadena, to Koreatown, and West LA. Jay is hands down the best. FUNDAMENTALS & KNOWLEDGE My golf game did not improve until I met Jay. My previous coaches would always tell me to swing, then "adjust" my swing, hands, footwork, etc., without explaining the purpose behind the adjustments. One coach would adjust my swing mid-way through the swing or tell me to hinge my wrists mid-way through the swing and never explained why - this was frustrating. The "adjustments" would translate into results during the lessons, but they were NEVER repeatable. The day after I had these other coaches' lessons I could not hit the ball and it was very frustrating trying to figure out why. After taking lessons with Jay he taught me the fundamentals of the golf swing from: set-up, to hand position, to posture. Now, I have a specific routine that I follow every time I play and practice. If my shots become erratic during play, I just go back to the fundamentals: step 1 - grip, step - 2 posture, step - 3 set-up, etc. and that enables me to "get back on track," rather than guessing and getting frustrated. One invaluable detail I learned from Jay that my previous coaches never taught me was the plane of the lower half of the golf club. Typically, during set-up you grip the club and rest it on the ground and assume the plane is parallel to the ground. However, depending on your grip that plane may unintentionally change. And even a small change can make a big difference. Jay taught me to check the plane of the golf club before every swing and make adjustments if necessary. This detail improved my swing dramatically and made my shots more straight and consistent. COMMUNICATION Jay is a great communicator. He explains golf theory very articulately and clearly. He will always tell you "why" he's teaching you a particular aspect of the golf swing, instead of saying "just because." In addition, his video work and hands-on instruction allow you to see every detail of your swing, which allows you more information to digest, which translates into faster and substantive results. MOTIVATIONAL Jay is also a motivational and inspiring coach. He will challenge you beyond your limits to make you improve and offer enlightening perspectives to make you think creatively. One issue I had was swing speed. I would always swing slow because I didn't think I could hit the ball swinging fast. Jay changed that immediately. First, he told me to swing a baseball bat (I used to play high school baseball). The baseball swing was fast and controlled. Then, he told me to use the same mentality to swing at the golf ball. I remember distinctly, he said "don't think, just hit it like a baseball." I did and I crushed the ball. The ball would travel on average 30 yards farther (using a PW). My contact was good, distance was good, but I still had to work on direction. But after a few lessons and adjustments my direction improved and my shots were consistently landing on the green or within 10 yards of the green. I remember hitting 10 consecutive shots that landed directly on the green - VICTORY. LESSON PLAN Jay prepares a detailed lesson plan for every lesson. Jay tailors each lesson specifically to your development, which allows for consistent and incremental improvement. He will also give you homework and important techniques to practice before the next lesson. My previous coaches would just tell me to "hit" at the range. Jay tells me to hit with goals in mind - that's the difference between a regular instructor and GREAT instructor. FACILITIES Jay has a great facility with high end golf and video equipment. His place is clean and spacious and parking is always easy. He also offers a practice area with video simulation where you can practice before and after every lesson - that's a huge plus when you're in the groove after a great lesson and you just want to hit more. CONCLUSION I would highly recommend Jay to anyone that wants to learn golf. He will teach you long lasting fundamentals, challenge you to be your best, but most importantly, improve your game significantly. read more

I've been a weekend warrior golfer for many years now. I was the type to watch every video series, read every magazine and subscribed to every swing theory. Nothing really worked, I had some success but never really gained the consistency I was after. I found golf code 360 and after reading reviews I thought I would give them a try. I've been working with Max for a handful of months now. We've been working hard on developing a consistent repeatable swing. I can honestly say my full swing with my irons is the best it's ever been. Jay is a machine! This guy can analyze you, your swings, your mentality and help you breakdown the intention and physical mechanics of golf to help adjust how you think about and play the game. I came to Jay with specific requests on my irons and driver, he accommodated me and help take 20+ strokes off my next game, but just like an overweight person hitting the gym I saw good results right away. Rather than ask him for specific lessons I should have let him show me his system. After just 3 lessons in the system (not including my specific requests) I now know what my set up should be, how I should connect with the ball and what sequence to do it in. Jay was able to break down my body movements into easy to understand and relatable pieces that I could focus on and modify to have tremendous results. I tell folks now after working with Jay that I used to spend average $110 per month (1 range bucket per week, and 1 game per month) thousands of dollars over the last few years practicing the wrong things, when I could have invested a little bit of time and money with Jay in the beginning to know what to practice and how. Don't understand 100% 5 star reviews. My lesson the instructor was texting on his phone and barely paying attention. Had to ask him if he was going to give me a lesson or need to reschedule. Yes I understand you get worse for the first few lessons but the 2nd lesson wasn't getting his full attention. I prepaid for 5 lessons and walked away in frustration. If you are a beginner or golf like one, you should take lessons from Jay. He is a fantastic teacher and turned my game around. I have taken golf lessons on and off for about 20 years. After each set of lessons, I seemed to actually get worse. Moreover, each instructor spent a good portion of the lessons explaining why my last instructor was not very good and steered me in the wrong direction. This summer I decided to really focus on golf lessons and take lessons 5 days a week for 4 weeks. I interviewed about 6 or 7 instructors via telephone and all of them pretty much had the same thing to say except for Jay. After hearing my history, Jay felt I needed to start over again, learn the game from scratch. No more trying to just tweak things here and there. Jay also explained his methodology which was very different than other instructors. Jay started at the beginning and focused on the fundamentals. He made me "unlearn" all my bad habits. Over the course of 4 weeks I went from a golf disaster to someone who confident on the golf course playing with others. Jay was with me for my first par! Jay also empowered me to understand when I am doing something wrong and how to correct my mistakes. Finally, working with Jay in his studio was a fantastic experience -- there is a greater element of precision in analyzing distance and the studio is private. No need to feel self -conscious about other hearing your conversation and listening to your lesson. Been taking lessons with Jay off and on for a couple years now, and he never fails to address what is wrong with my swing. Every lesson there is immediate improvement, whether you are building upon previous lessons, or if you regress due to lack of practice. I feel you get more than what you pay for because Jay has been through the trenches and the grind that weekend warriors (scoring in the 100s) have gone through that PGA professional instructors haven't (since they have played growing up). To elaborate, I feel that PGA professional instructors may give the wrong advice/lessons because although it works for them, they grew up with that type of swing and they have grown used to that swing, and so their advice/lessons may not apply to you. But Jay gives the proper way to swing bio-mechanically, because that's how he figured it out later in his life the way a body and its limitations is supposed to move. I recently had a fantastic half hour lesson with Jay Lim. My desire was to increase distance with the driver and he quickly evaluated and corrected my golf swing. It was amazing what a difference his instruction made. I finished my bucket of balls with at least a 50% increase in distance using my upper and lower body properly and making better contact with the ball. Jay is extremely knowledgeable - a great instructor who explains the mechanics concisely and clearly. I initially found GolfCode 360 through Groupon. I took an introductory lesson and decided to sign up for a package of (5) 1 hour lessons. I worked with Max. Before the lessons I was floating between the low 90's and high 80's on most days. I have taken lessons before and play on a regular basis but had seemed to plateau and not make much improvement over the past few years. What attracted me to this particular program is that it is structured with a logical way of how I should be trying to swing the golf club. Each lesson we would continue to work on the overall swing while adding small additions. In between the lessons I would work on these points and my overall swing 2-3 times at the range or on the course. I just completed the lessons and have seen on average a 4-5 stroke improvement. I am making much stronger contact which has resulted in improved distance. Best of all I have a better understanding of my swing and what may be causing errant shots. I am planning to take another 5 lessons and hope to see more improvement. Max is a good instructor who makes himself available via cell/text for questions as you progress. Before I met Jay, I took lessons for 4 months with another golf instructor in Newport Beach. I spent lots of money and time but had really not improved. After about 10 minutes into my first lesson with Jay, I knew this guy was the real deal. After about 2-3 lessons with Jay, my swing improved immediately.
