I think out of all the things that I was excited to do visiting Arizona for the first time, coming to a ghost town was one that I was most excited for!! It's so fun to get to explore the and old 'Wild West' town, and Goldfield really lives up to that. You could almost think of this place as a mini park, which is totally free to enter! There are shops, restaurants, horse-back riding, zip-lining, gem mining.... You could almost spend an entire day here. There's even a full-functioning church that you can attend a mass at. We didn't eat here so I can't comment about the food, but they did have prickly pear lemonades that were to die for! (And paired great with the intense AZ heat...) The zip-lining was super cheap, and even played music while you rode! You can also go for another round at half the cost. We had such a great time here. It's about 40ish minutes outside of Phoenix, but totally worth the detour! read more

This place is so fun. We came on a Saturday a few weekends ago and had a lot of fun. It was perfect weather and it was crowded, but not too crowded. Our favorite part was seeing the pretend gun fight. It is by volunteers that do a free show (donations/tips accepted after the show) every hour on the hour. Well not every hour but I believe starting from 10am to 4pm (at least when we were there). We did the train ride which was more of a historical train ride. Honestly, it was hard to understand everything the tour guide was saying - he mumbled a lot. We still enjoyed it. We also did the mine tour which was really cool and our tour guide was awesome (I'm forgetting her name, but she was great). Then we did the mystery shack which was fun and made us a little dizzy haha. We ate ice cream which was yummy, but overpriced. We walked around some of the shops too. For lunch we ate at the saloon. It was a fun atmosphere, but the food was not that good and the customer service was eh. They messed up our order and still charged us for an extra order of something we never ordered. I'm a ginormous fan of ghost towns! That said, this wasn't a ghost town, per se. I dragged my friend, Audrey, along for a spontaneous adventure outta Chandler. I am a geocacher at heart, so I knew that the Adventure Lab cache would be a great way to familiarize ourselves with the town. We walked around town during their slow season so a few shops were closed and the gunfights wouldn't resume for months. We had a great time regardless. We hopped on the train around the town, and thoroughly enjoyed the commentary. The shop owners were cordial and accommodating. Overall, I would say bring the kids and pack a lunch. Very cool spot! Small area but easy to fill a day there with the family with the tours, food, and a few shops. Beautiful views of the surrounding area too and a lot of history there. After hours there is a ghost tour that is pretty great there too. Some of it depends on your fellow guests, and mine weren't the best, but the staff sells the ghost tour well and did a great job with it. Must experience this place any time of year it's a great day trip just west of downtown Phoenix. The shops and prices are very reasonable. Do you like western movies? This place is a nice stop in your trip and have fun with family. It is a tourist attraction, in a real goldfield. There is a western around 15 minutes, a saloon with restaurant, the food is reasonable, more sandwiches, the fries are good. You will have fun for sure! Tourist trap in the Apache Junction area. Having said that, I would say it is a must see and good for kids. There is a train that gives rides around the little mining town, gift shops, museum ($6), ice cream shops and a few places to eat. There is also a gun fight in the street every hour, which is fun to watch. They will be passing around a bucket for a small donation to help buy powder for the guns etc. Help them out, if you like to keep seeing these street shows. It's Americana. Fun little stop outside of Phoenix. We came last weekend with 2 adults and a kid on the hunt for scorpions. The "serpentarium" has plenty to see, and the woman running it gave the history on all the animals inside. One of the vipers scared us all by opening it's mouth, yawning, and exposing its GIANT fangs. So cool to see. There were also several blacklight flashlights that kids were able shine on the scorpions to get a better view of them. The grounds were cool, with an amazing view of Superstition Mountain. Lots of old equipment, cacti, and other things to take pics with. There's a fantastic gold mining set-up, that pretty much any kid would love. You buy a bag of dirt/sand, then you sift through to find gems, minerals, and even some gold nuggets. Will definitely be back at some point to try the zip line! read more

We were doing some weekend driving and Out in the middle of Apache Junction is this cool ghost town that literally will have you transported back in time! This is an old abandoned gold mine and it's incredible to see how hard these miners had to work just for one little spec of gold. The risk involved is beyond anything you can imagine! The mystery shack will leave you puzzled for days after you go inside! Quite the mind bender! We grabbed a burger at the local eatery and we were all pleasantly surprised! Nice and juicy and full of flavor! Great staff all around! We didn't have time for the zip line or train ride but if you have small kids and are looking for some adventure; this is a great find for a weekend trip! read more

I was torn about my review. The cranky husband doesn't like "tourist traps" and this is indeed one of but that said it is a really well put together one! I would say it is a nice half day family adventure. For about $30 a person you can see three of the major attractions which take about 15-20 minutes each. There are also fun shoot outs done by costumed locals? There are not nearly enough bathrooms tho. They could handle bringing in a few porta potty's to handle the overflowing as bathroom waits were long! It is a great family outing. I would have given it 4 stars. We had a really good time exploring the ghost town today! It was pretty busy and we spent about 15minutes finding parking , but we knew to expect that on a Sunday at 2:00pm. Our favorite attractions were the "gun fight" which I believe only happens on Sat and Sun every hour from 1:00-4:00. We also tried the zip line which made the trip for our 11 year old ($14). Next time we will stay for lunch and a train ride as well! The only negatives would be that there were a ton of people smoking cigars and the smell was super strong at times. There also really wasn't much to do for younger children and every separate thing cost money- the museum, shooting, train ride, zip line,mine tour, Etc. it would be cool if you could buy a bundled price or buy tickets upfront for all activities rather than be nickel and dimed at each new building you entered while exploring the town. All in all a very fun day if you want to get outdoors and see something new just outside of Phoenix! read more

On our way to the Renaissance festival we saw ads for the ghost town. The kids instantly said they wanted to go. We decided to come out on a Saturday and this was such an amazing time. From the reptile museum, to the gold mine underground to the soaring eagle zip line we had such a great time. The reenactment of an old saloon style fight in the square was just perfect. The kids were adamant about coming back for the haunted tour but I feel they need to be older before we start that journey. Highly recommend everyone of all ages to come out and experience this location. read more

What a great way to spend a few hours during Spring Break 2024. Plenty to explore and learn about this Ghost Town. The trains engineer will tell all about the history of this mining town during a 15 - 20 ride around the town. There's even a great zip lining experience. The area is very cool but I was disappointed by the 2 rude employees at "The Cactus Shop" on site today. The employee walking around the store and the blond employee behind the counter were both very rude. The zip line was a quick thrill, fun experience and the gun fight was interesting. Goldfield Ghost Town is near the Superstition Mountains Goldfield Ghost Town is some 340 miles from Las Vegas (a little over 5 hours drive). Parking is free and there is no entrance fee too! That is a plus! You only pay for activities you want to do and, of course, food and beverage. The weather was a beautiful mid 70's. It was nice and comfortable exploring the touristy ghost town. This abandoned old mining town, which has been refurbished as a tourist attraction, includes a mine tour, rides and restaurants and shops. We paid $5/each to visit the live reptile exhibit. It was a small room but the cool collection of snakes and tarantulas, and centipedes were fascinating to see. So worth the $5 bucks. It was our first time visit and I'd say this place is good for a couple of hours. Enjoy horseback riding, old train ride, mine tours, gold panning, brothel tours, museum tours... plenty of activities! There are people dressed in old town costumes. Would've loved to do the zip line but we didn't have time as they were starting to close. We spent a pleasant 1-1/2 hours here. This place is probably more fun for families with little ones. Surprisingly good tourist "ghost town" that's a must stop if you're visiting this area.. If you've ever been to the Calico Ghost Town on the way to Vegas you probably swore that you'd never fall for these money traps again. However, you might want to give Goldfields a chance. I've been to both towns and this is so much better than Calico. Calico had the audacity to charge a pricey entrance fee along with à la carte fees for each experience.. Parking and entrance are free at Goldfields. We didn't pay for any of the experiences here but we did spend our money on food and gifts.. Goldfield has a gun fighting show throughout the weekends (these things are banned in California) and it was fun. This is a free must-go-to-place as a Newcomer to Arizona, as well as your first-time Visitors to the Valley of the Sun! Pacing yourself up hill perusing the wild west architecture, artifacts, shops and era-driven performers marauding the streets after entering, the welcome down-hill stroll will be most welcome. From its 1890s era jail, assay office, mill, saloon, grill, bordello, mine, chapel, merchants, bakery, train, museum and more, you will definitely get the intense feeling of a by-gone day. The views of the Superstition Mountains to the east as well as the surrounding desolate desert terrain shows you up front the isolation these towns bestowed on their inhabitants. Lively interpreters of the period show us how things were done, what things looked like and how hard it was in comparison to our easy lives of today. They also provide a comical relief of a gunfight reenactment on Main Street - which after experiencing the enacted fracas, gave me pause regarding today's state-of-affairs and how we've brought this style of argument to the present. This is a great place to get an old "Wild West" feel if you're in the area. Nestled at the base of the Superstitions, the view from Goldfield is absolutely amazing. That alone is worth stopping. The town itself is a re-creation of what a town might have looked like when they discovered gold at the mine. They have all the things you'd expect - a chapel, a jail, a bordello, a saloon - plus a whole bunch of old timey buildings that house shops selling souvenirs, candy, even plants. During parts of the year, they have a "shoot out" periodically through the day with actors in costume. Those actors also serve as a variety of characters in the town: lots of cowboys, the sheriff, the criminal, even the bordello/saloon women. It is cute and campy and lots of good fun. This isn't a legit look into yesteryear, but it's a lot of good times. It's a fun place to make a few hours of it. Wander around and then grab a beer at the saloon, which has live music from time to time. It does get very crowded on the weekends. The best time to come is a rainy "Arizona cold" day, especially on a weekday, if you want to avoid crowds. And, of course, in the summer, it gets blazing pretty early. Some of the gimmicks are not entirely worth it (the train ride isn't worth the admission), but some of the stuff leaves stories to tell. I've heard the ghost tours of the mine can be truly mind-changing about the paranormal. read more

We went to go to do the gold mine tour and the guy who did our tour was instantly rude. He seemed bored giving the information and at the end mentioned getting tips put in the buck for himself. As we are walking out we are out of cash. I had 4 quarters put them in the bucket and got made fun of by the guy. He told a teenage girl "thanks sweet angel but i prefer actual cash". This was not in a joking way. Our guide truly made us never want to come back again and we will not be recommending to others. Very cool ghost town outside of Phoenix. We had gone to Phoenix for a concert and we're looking for something else to take my nephew to do. I came across a Goldfield on a site and decided we should go. It was a very cool experience. We got there just before noon and on the top of every hour they do some type of gun show reenactment or duel. They also have a museum. Immersive activities, a zip line, tours, and many different stores that you can go to. We spent just a couple hours there, but we had a very good time, learned some things, and did a little bit of shopping. It was very neat. My nephew was 10 years old and he really liked it. I think it is good for kids and adults have any age. The gun show battle can be a little loud, so very little kids may want to cover their ears but other than that it was a very nice time. read more

Super fun little day trip/get away! Everyone was super friendly, great little shops that were fun and had really cool and cute things! We surprisingly found our wedding cake topper! lol. the entry/set up to goldfield ghost town was really cute and unique! def gave an old western vibe! Cute souvenirs and things for the whole family to do, lots of cute little photo ops as well! We saw the steakhouse saloon and decided to stop in for a beer and to my surprise, a prickly pear margarita. jim was our bartender and he was so sweet! very attentive, quick service and made a tasty margarita! didn't try the food because we were in and out quick (wanted to watch the gun show - which unfortunately we were a little far away so we couldn't hear it that great but it seemed cool!) side note: we were able to take our drinks (beer and margarita outside to walk around with!!! love!) ... overall we will definitely be back and can't wait to try the steakhouse next time! read more

Great place to bring kids of all ages. I came with my sister, cousin, and 4 boys between the ages of 7 years old and 4 months old. The three older kids got tattoos on their arms. One of the tattoos did not turn out well due to sunscreen applied previously. The boys loved the shooting game. The train runs every 30 minutes. Food takes awhile to come out from the restaurant. BLT was delicious. Ice cream was delicious. One of my cousins had shaved ice which was discarded halfway through the cup. We watched the fake shooting act twice. It's different each time.
