You can't beat the views here! The road from Roosevelt Damn is fully paved now. Absolutely stunning lake! We brought our fishing boat & there was plenty of room for our boat, trailer & truck in all parking lots. We paid for a dock slip too which was handy. We stayed in the hotel, one of the full kitchen/double queen rooms that faced the lake. The room was clean, beds were very comfy, they brought extra pillows when we asked & plenty of hot water. We ate at the restaurant 3 times and the food was great & servers were very nice! The little store has most things you might forget at home. The 4 stars is for a few things: there are no coffee mugs in the kitchen, no pans for the oven, they don't answer the phone, they only sometimes answer the texts, there is almost no cutlery in the kitchen, the towels are very rough, no paper products except toilet paper and when you book you don't know any of these things because amenities aren't included in the room description or website. And you can't ask ahead because they don't answer the phone. Some others items to note for planning purposes: the coffee maker is a 4 cup maker, the dock doesn't have power and there is no toaster. While the site is beautiful and has lots of options they talk a big game for not a lot of fantastic amenities! I'll say the good before the bad, the site has a lot of options for views, boats and water activities you can rent out. They were flexible with our booking of a boat as our animals were struggling with the heat and trailer wasn't cooling fast so we planned to leave the next day around noon instead of being on the boat all day. It's quite secluded in the Superstition Mountains and the views of the Cacti Mountains and salt river are just lovely!!! There's lots of access to the water and they do have a restaurant bar and a convenience store that's open till 8 I believe. They allow animals too which is awesome. Now for the tougher aspects that made us never want to come back. The staff were so rude, most of our interactions left us frustrated minus a few. The "grocery store" was subpar and more of a convenience store with nothing we could utilize to make a meal. Before we arrived we called for two days straight with no answer text back or anything they finally picked up on our final try as we are less than 20 minutes from 88 and trying to double check we were headed for the right road, only to be sassed by the employees and told yeah it is after a round about confusing conversation that wasn't entirely helpful not clear to the majority of our group and it was also treated as if it where a stupid question. To me if you are dealing with tourist (which we were) be understanding and remember that not everyone has been here before. What we learned? Route 88 IS PAVED but is entirely switch back turns so be warned if you're hauling anything which is fine but not something we were warned of or made aware of nor could we identify such till we where already at the road and incapable of turning around with our trailer (NOT A TURN AROUND FRIENDLY ROAD until the marina) and it is a thin road. The whole way via 88 IS PAVED but you have to come from somewhere North like Payson. If you come from Pheonix it's supposedly a dirt road so be warned we didn't take it as we had animals new to the road tripping and a trailer we were not taking on a 4X4 road so unsure how true this information is or isn't! Just want others to feel more informed than we did going into it. The best part are the boat renters and helpers on the dock who had the best attitude. Went to the restaurant/bar on Saturday night what an absolute horrible experience, brought my dog in, being my first time there, I didn't know where to go, I was immediately told no dogs allowed, proceeded to find my way out back, as the group I was with waited for drinks at the bar they noticed a woman at the bar with a dog, would not allow us to pay cash for drinks, wanted to hold the card, time came to close out after last call, husband went in to pay he had to wait over 30 minutes for the bartender to close the tab, bartender was very rude, he was busy serving the "owner" of the bar and his group at least 5 drinks, after that some female employee came out and told everyone to pay, my husband said it'll take 30 minutes to do it, and she yelled out "well he efing ready now!!! read more

Ive been going to this lake my entire life, ill never forget the times ive had here and also the growth ive seen with it from still frequently visiting this place of escape. They have really upgraded this place from what it used to be. Hotel rooms upgraded and modernized. You can sign into your streaming services to their new smart tvs. Wifi isnt bad, didnt have it before so again a huuuuuge plus! The bathrooms are also modernized and so much better than before. The beaches are a lot cleaner than before as well. The staff are very professional and helpful as well. We went to apache lake this weekend for the laua and it was great! the owners came up and gave a speech about how they are going to make apache lake a family fun place to hangout and the keep apache lake community alive! they seemed super nice and like they were a really fun family! all of the employees were also super friendly! we stayed in the hotel and it was decent. the rooms look freshly remodeled. however, there was a dirty sock under the bed and there wasn't fresh toilet paper but other than that it was good! the beds were comfortable and there was a mini fridge & microwave in the room with a nice patio too! the lake was beautiful and we had no issues getting a slip and keeping the boat there overnight. we will be back in june & i can't wait! the kids had a blast too ! The lake is amazing--except on holidays! We had an electric slip on Apache Lake for 5 years. It was inexpensive while we were there. We went there every weekend and spent our vacations there--holidays were a nightmare. The lake was overcrowded as was Party Cove. We typically spent holidays in our slip. Thankfully we sold our boat before the marina went private and jacked up the rates and changed the rules. We used to bring our gas from Chandler and worked on our boat--no longer allowed. The restaurant and bar were acceptable--not sure about their rooms--the food was very good and the bar was typical, normal and crazy. We totally enjoyed our time there and wish we could have stayed but medical issues changed that--oh, well! read more

Resort? Me thinks not but hey! Where else are you gonna stay if you don't have an RV when visiting Apache Lake? Apache Lake Resort has been around for quite a while and it has improved some since I last visited over 10 years ago. Our whole family checked in last Friday occupying four rooms in Motel A. Our king room came equipped with a microwave and hot plate and a few dishes and a pan (dishes/pan by request when making the reservation). The king bed was super comfy, adequate shower with nice hot water and A/C that blows REALLY cold (thankfully!). The place is definitely not fancy but our experience was that it was clean and safe. Check in was easy and friendly but in my opinion the rooms are overpriced. The store is pretty sparse but the employees are nice. A bag of ice is $10!!! The restaurant is decent and dinner for our party of 11 went well enough with only a few mistakes from the kitchen. My husband and I split our two orders - a cheeseburger with green chile and bacon with fries (we ordered onion rings but got fries) and an order of fish & chips. Both were tasty and definitely hit the spot. Our server had some difficulty with such a large party but everything turned out OK plus we're all pretty forgiving. The restaurant is huge and lots of seating. Visited the bar as well and found it to be a good experience. The outdoor area is great for letting the kids run around and have fun. A few games out there but mostly my grandkids chased bugs, LOL. So lower your expectations when you read the word "resort" and you'll surely enjoy your stay! read more

I would give it 1 star, but one of the clerks at the office was accommodating and friendly. We were camping and were given site #7. It was a very nice spot overlooking the lake. However, there is NO way to hook black water, as everything is on the opposite site of the normal approach. It backs up to a ledge, there's no chance of turning your rig around. We had to snag water from site #8 and move over on our departure day to flush out our black water as we were at least 40' from the drain. The washroom with shower, closest to our site did not appear to be tended during our 3 days and did not have hot water. We were told by other campers that the showers at the other end of the site was pretty similar. Only 1 of the 3 showers had hot water. There are NO tables and the only thing that resembles a fire pit is a scratched out pile of ash left from a previous camper. Basically, this place is run down and there does not appear to be anyone in charge. The lake remains beautiful and there is a nice boat ramp. So if you are looking for the bare minimum of services this place may fill the bill. read more

If you're looking to unplug and soak in some serious Arizona beauty, Apache Lake Resort is a solid pick. It's rustic, remote, and full of charm--not luxury, but that's part of the appeal. We stayed in one of the motel-style rooms--clean, basic, and surprisingly comfortable. Don't expect high-end amenities, but it had everything we needed: comfortable beds, a refrigerator and a killer view of the lake. The best part? The location. The lake itself is gorgeous--surrounded by red rock cliffs and saguaros, with calm waters perfect for kayaking or paddleboarding. We rented a pontoon from the marina and went from the Roosevelt Dam to the Mormon Flat Dam with stops at "party cove" and "family cove". Only word of warning is make sure you understand the full rental agreement regarding the fuel. We had a misunderstanding but, this was worked out in the end. There's a restaurant and bar on-site (Apache Lake Marina & Bar & Grill), and while the menu isn't huge, the food hit the spot. Think burgers, tacos, cold beer, and friendly service. A special mention and thank you to Naomi who provided excellent service to our party of five. Give this gal a raise! The only downside is the road in. The drive is rough--narrow, winding, and partly unpaved--so take it slow and don't attempt it at night if you're not used to mountain roads. But honestly, the adventure is part of the experience. All in all, Apache Lake Resort is a great spot for a weekend escape--peaceful, scenic, and just the right amount of off-the-grid. read more

Loved going to the Marina. It was our first time staying there because we usually Stay at Burnt Corral. The rooms were clean, but the toilet was running all night and they didn't have the parts to fix it. BUT, at one point we had an issue with our jet ski but the guys at the Marina were super! There's some major improvements everywhere you look! It's still not finished but it's definitely come a long way! It is always very unfortunate when a business picks greed over community. I have been coming out to Apache Lake regularly since 2009 because of the Apache Lake Music Festival (I even learned how to drive on the Apache Trail with a learners permit about 20 years ago!) This resort is under new ownership as of early 2021 & is no longer family owned & operated. Since then, the two new owners whom live out of state have gentrified a marina & resort without even making any updates... In fact, things seem like they're in even worse condition then when I was out there last year (2020) while the Schuster family still owned it. Jeremy R. (whom I've never even met) previously stated "$10 for a bag of ice? 5 phone calls as well as waiting a half an hour just to check in? Quoted one price for a jet ski rental then actually being charge a significantly more expensive rate" Port-a-potties?! Let's not forget how much they wanted to charge for camping on Memorial Day weekend: $50 per adult $25 per youth (5-11) But don't worry! These prices are for the entire weekend & 5 and under can stay for free! That seems pretty steep for bringing all of your own supplies plus only having a port-a-potty sitting in the Arizona desert heat to use. At least when the Schuster family was in charge there was plumbing (I admit, not the best) but it worked. Also, the new owners are trying to disband the community of people who store boats or have house boats out there. I personally will not support a business that does not respect or have any sense of community, & I hope you won't either. read more

The lake itself is gorgeous and the views are unsurpassed. However, if you're familiar with staying at some of the other lakes in the state, there are some very important differences to note with Apache. 1) The drive in. Even when coming through Globe by Roosevelt, it's a 1 lane dirt road going down with many switchbacks. Those that are scared of such drives need to make note. 2) The RV spots and the tent spots are no where near each other. Our friends that chose to tent camp found themselves driving to and from the RVs each time. 3) Rv spots to water: These are on different levels. So, in order to get to the water, you do have to dredge down some hillsides carefully. If you have anything to carry, this is a chore. 4) Marina: The boats are in BAD shape. We were told we were not able to tow our kids on rafts, the chairs were torn and covered in bird crap, the radios did not work, and one had a torn shade sail. 5) Customer Service: IF you can get them to answer the phone, it's a small miracle. Their voicemail tells you to text but they never respond to the texts. You can tell there are regulars that definitely get the better treatment by the staff. And the Marina will charge you for boat damage you did not cause. NOTE! If renting a boat, take video of EVERYTHING on the boat while still at the marina, showing clearly that you are still there AND showing the employees that are there as you point everything out. Otherwise they will say you caused the damage and charge you! Overall, we won't be back. The customer service along with the hike to and from the water and not being able to have our tent campers near us all left a bad experience in our minds. read more

Most beautiful lake in AZ, and the scenery/boating is almost always worth it. The check-in and store staff is helpful as well. And, the "long road" coming from Globe/Roosevelt Lake is finally paved-- yay!! That said, tried the RV lot for the first time, and let's just say there are several areas for improvement. The slots have a great view on a bluff, but are uncomfortably close together, with no room for setting up an outside table/chairs (thank goodness it wasn't crowded). The bathrooms were frankly disgusting (feces-clogged toilets, blocked-up sink, shower curtain left on the ground, very mildewy). We understand budget cuts at national parks, and someone did come late the next day to clean one of the stalls, but with the fairly steep cost, the solution should be better than "you are free to use the nicer bathrooms down the road (that you need to drive to)". The worst part of our stay, though, was the early morning noise caused by employees. The first morning, starting around 5 a.m., a man in a logoed shirt was roaring up and down the road and at the entrance of the lot on an ATV, for almost an hour. The morning after that, the man who lives on-site used a leaf-blower starting about 5:30 a.m. and going on for over two hours. (For what possible reason is leaf-blowing needed in a small dirt lot with next to no trees??) Finally, it would have been helpful to be alerted about the weekday road construction on the US60 when we booked our dates. From 9 a.m. - 2p.m. Mon.-Thurs. the road into Globe is blocked, and we were forced to take a LONG detour through Kearny, increasing our drive time by 1 1/2 hours. Just be sure to plan accordingly! And use Burnt Corral instead. Much bigger/prettier location. If you need a hookup, you might be able to rent a generator for less $ than it costs to rent a spot at the RV park. read more

In the middle of nowhere down a long and dusty highway, you will find this old "resort" and campground that has pretty much been the same place for the past 20+ years. Sure it is a bit run down, and in dire need of a remodel. But the Apache Lake Resort doesn't need to be flashy, up to date, or even that clean, because Apache Lake itself is really why everyone wanders out here. In fact I would argue that staying here at the "resort" is a form of "glamping" that you hear so much about these days. And what is wrong with that? Sure it is not up to Hilton standards but would you really expect that in the middle of nowhere? In addition to accommodations, there is a small bar with a few food offerings and a convenience store for campers. Nothing offered is spectacular from a culinary perspective, but it can serve its purpose of filling you up in the right circumstances. It's also nice to have a place to buy ice nearby! (If you have ever been camping you might appreciate what it means to have good ice at the ready). There is an outside patio with shade and a nice view of the lake, if you happen to be looking for a spot to chill and enjoy a cold one on a hot summer day. They also have boat rentals, which tend to go quickly, but if you manage to get one you can have a great time on the lake for a reasonably affordable price. That is the primary advantage to making the trek to this lake, versus the closer (and paved) Canyon Lake, which can be a mob scene on crowded days. Overall if you like roughing it "a bit" and avoiding huge crowds, then you might like it here. Four stars! read more

TEN DOLLARS FOR A BAG OF ICE!!! Highway robbery, I can't even believe it. Upon arriving there was a note on the door to 'call for assistance.' Well, five phone calls and thirty minutes later I was 'greeted' by this rotten woman and flabbergasted by the total cost; Absolutely absurd! To add insult to injury I was quoted one price for my jet ski slip and low and behold, charged a different and considerably more expensive price at the front desk. Of course, the person who gave me the price over the phone doesn't work here anymore. Super convenient. I spend a lot of money at this lake between the wet slip for my boat and the jet ski. Need a shower after spending a week at the lake? Forget it, the Marina bathrooms are closed. You will be happy to have two port a potties stinking to high heaven from baking in the hot Arizona sun. Yummy! I seriously cannot believe the audacity of the new owners, the poor customer service, lack of service and zero attention to ANY detail is like a kick in the stomach to me. Please, PLEASE do not waste your time driving all the way here for miserable service and sub par amenities. Go to Canyon lake, trust me. They repair their docks, take care of their loyal customers and are actually, well, open. This review cannot fully convey the true nature of the sadness and disappointment I have for a place I once loved. read more

Our stay there started off a little bit rocky because someone was in our spot claiming that the site let them double book the spot next to us. It took about an hour for us to get everything figured out but the employees were super helpful and nice even though the person in our spot was trying everything that they could to stay in our spot. They also had a country concert that night, which was really fun until everybody decided to bring it back to the campsites and play bass music and party until about 445 in the morning. I spoke with the same employee the next day, and they said that this is the first time that they were trying the concerts out to see what type of crowd would attend, and it didn't seem like they were impressed with them either so it didn't seem like it was the fault of The campsite. We rented a pontoon boat the next day which was amazing. The views are spectacular. The people like I said working there are wonderful and I would definitely recommend it. Apache Lake Marina & RV Resort is beyond disappointing! We were on our way traveling from Texas to California. We were driving out of our way to stay here, the website made it seem like a nice and relaxing place. During our drive to Apache Lake Marina & RV Resort I started reading the reviews and saw that it was an hour drive on a dirt road. That is NOT safe for our family of five (including an infant). We called and left a message (no one answered) to cancel. We never heard from anyone until later in the evening when they called to see where we were. Clearly they do not check voicemails! They said a manager would be in touch with us at the beginning of the week for a refund. The manager didn't call us back for four weekdays. When the manager called she offered 30% off (at first) due to "last minute cancellation and not able to book our space". She admitted on the phone they weren't at full capacity that evening, but still wouldn't give more than 60% off. My husband and I are both business owners. This is NOT the way you run a business. If there is unsafe conditions, you make it right. We did not accept the 60% refund, we'd rather have our voices heard about Apache Lake Marina & RV Resort. Their website should be EXTREMELY clear about the road conditions. In fact, the other side of the road (highway 88) is SHUT DOWN! Due to a fire, rain, and mudslides! That wasn't on their website either!! There is nothing easily seen on their website regarding these hazardous conditions (nothing I could find). If it's on the website it's a needle in a haystack. The website should have a banner stating these facts! It should have bullet points stating these facts. It should be in the descriptive paragraph! Guests shouldn't have to research ongoing road issues and they should know what they are signing up for! BEYOND THANKFUL for the other reviews that informed us of these hazardous and unsafe conditions! If the manager would have offered a full refund due to the hazardous and unsafe driving conditions we would have had a positive experience. This review would have been a lot different. read more

And let me tell you, it was the worst $100 a night I had ever spent to stay anywhere. Broken glass on the floors, broken furniture, dead bugs everywhere, blood stains on mattresses (God help me not to think about the bodily fluids I couldn't see) Broken furniture, hair in the beds as if sheets weren't washed. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible Hotel. Rent a RV or take your own tent!! Again lake is beautiful but definitely not worth me getting some kind of bacterial illness because of the dirty rooms. Rented two pontoon boats on a windy day. There was no instructions on use of the boat or where the life vests were located. No walk thru for damages. Boat was dirty and had trash under the seats from previous renters. One of the pontoons the canopy was starting to come loose from the wind. Once on the water the wind tore the canopy more so we had to tie it up from being damaged further so only had one canopy all day. Both boats would not stay running in neutral. Almost crashed one because we could not get it started and wind almost blew us into the shore. Had to jump out and push off the rivals with our legs to save the boat. Once back at the dock we complained and they said oh well. There was no walk thru again for damages. After we left the marina and went home we found out they charged us $250 for the damaged canopy which we had nothing to do with. Their customer service is horrible and their boats are crap. read more

Oh baby, this is my favorite lake in the entire state. It's positively gorgeous here. I spent my summers as a kid at Apache and to me, it's better than any staycation at any of the resorts in town. Skiing, wake boarding, tubing - so much more fun than any lazy river! Jet skiing all day and waking up with every body part totally sore and sunburned, frizzy hair, a tad bit of a hangover and grabbing a cold beer with breakfast, ready to do it all over again - that to me is the perfect idea of summer. I've been here twice already this summer and I plan on spending every weekend I can here. Typically, I'm a camping girl and love to camp. However, I grew up on this lake with all the comforts of having a trailer until they tore them down in 2002. So, I am accustomed to certain amenities (like A/C) when I come to the lake and I stay at the hotel instead. The hotel is acceptable. Ten steps up from camping. We spend all day out on the lake, come inside for a nice cold shower, throw on a sundress and head to the bar for some drinks, meet up with old friends, laugh, dance, make out. SO.MUCH.FUN! **Pros Camping RV hookups hotel restaurant that cooks the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had in my life bar store wet slips for $12 a day gorgeous scenery that makes you happy when you look at it party cove boat storage incredibly, incredibly friendly people working here It's too far away for all of the douchebags in their daddy's boats to come visit **Cons haven't you been paying attention? Came back for dinner and drinks at The Big Horny Sheep Saloon and had a blast with Mike (bartender) and all the locals. I absolutely LOVE Apache Lake, it is a "Diamond in the Rough"!!! I find the employees to be very pleasant and helpful.... I've been in most of the motel rooms, which have always been clean and some have the best mattresses for a great night sleep!!! The food is always EXCEPTIONAL.....Yummmm!!! Spent the weekend at the hotel and power and water were out the first night. Grilled burgers were sold outside, but since there wasn't water, I did not see anyone washing their hands. ICK. No thanks. read more

Apache Lake is beautiful and so much fun. This review is specifically for the "resort." Fortunately, when you're at the lake you don't have to spend much time in the rooms so I will keep this short and sweet... BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING and try not to touch anything. You have been warned. read more

Bring your own sheets, wear flip flops in the shower, check your shoes for scorpions, try to be drunk by the time you want to sleep it's a lot easier crawling into the bed that way. I'd recommend brining your own sheets and pillows. First day they didn't have any water. The rest of the trip they never had hot water, even though they told us several times that they would have it fixed by the next day. The TV has about 6 channels none of them come in clear, the TV is from the 90s. You don't come here for the rooms, you come here for the lake and then question why you didn't just camp by the lake. If you want AC maybe bring your tent into the room, you'll feel cleaner. read more

WARNING: do NOT take the 60 out to Apache Trail (unless you have nerves of steel to drive down the side of a cliff on a sketchy one lane dirt road with rock outcroppings likely to take out the side of your trailer or large vehicle.) I highly encourage you to come in from the north and come in from beeline highway (87) and then south on the 188. Thought still dirt (and according to the GPS much longer) it takes less time and is far less nerve-wracking. Just spent the weekend at Apache Lake, GORGEOUS views, you won't be disappointed there. I have to give it three stars as the drive was atrocious and the camp sites were not much more than a big dirt parking lot with hook-ups. I encourage you to check out party cove and take a jump off the cliff (work on your upper body strength first). There is a small store and a place for ice, though not quite a "resort" you will have a great time and find it to be quite secluded (surprise... 14 miles of dirt road). All-in-all a decent weekend, something I encourage you to do at least... Or only... Once! read more

A customer service disaster beyond compare! The staff are completely unorganized and unhelpful. Several different staff members gave conflicting information and some were downright argumentative. The grounds are incredibly shabby and almost appear abandoned at times. They do not offer many common services to guests and I wouldnt bother asking about reservations. read more
