Apache lake from the trail

It's was a last minute trip that i scheduled for me and my family. The room was perfect with a perfect view of the lake from our patio. We are definitely coming back here very soon and will bring more friends with us so they can experience this little slice of heaven!

What a great adventure for the day! We decided to go see what's been going on since the new owners took over. They most definitely haven't been resting! There's some major improvements everywhere you look! It's still not finished but it's definitely come a long way! I almost hate to tell people they'll be getting a paved road because that'll mean more people (but that's just my being selfish). They are starting up the outdoor concerts soon and have amazing bands for the line up! Book your spots now as the first ones already sold out! Boat rentals, jet ski rentals are available for a very competitive price. Enjoy AZ

Maps, murals. Pretty decor.

The area is beautiful. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. Five stars

New owners claiming to move forward with the Apache Lake Music Festival w/o the original curators, promoters, production staff.

It is always very unfortunate when a business picks greed over community. I have been coming out to Apache Lake regularly since 2009 because of the Apache Lake Music Festival (I even learned how to drive on the Apache Trail with a learners permit about 20 years ago!) This resort is under new ownership as of early 2021 & is no longer family owned & operated. Since then, the two new owners whom live out of state have gentrified a marina & resort without even making any updates... In fact, things seem like they're in even worse condition then when I was out there last year (2020) while the Schuster family still owned it. Jeremy R. (whom I've never even met) previously stated "$10 for a bag of ice? 5 phone calls as well as waiting a half an hour just to check in? Quoted one price for a jet ski rental then actually being charge a significantly more expensive rate" Port-a-potties?! Let's not forget how much they wanted to charge for camping on Memorial Day weekend: $50 per adult $25 per youth (5-11) But don't worry! These prices are for the entire weekend & 5 and under can stay for free! That seems pretty steep for bringing all of your own supplies plus only having a port-a-potty sitting in the Arizona desert heat to use. At least when the Schuster family was in charge there was plumbing (I admit, not the best) but it worked. Also, the new owners are trying to disband the community of people who store boats or have house boats out there. I personally will not support a business that does not respect or have any sense of community, & I hope you won't either.

In the middle of nowhere down a long and dusty highway, you will find this old "resort" and campground that has pretty much been the same place for the past 20+ years. Sure it is a bit run down, and in dire need of a remodel. But the Apache Lake Resort doesn't need to be flashy, up to date, or even that clean, because Apache Lake itself is really why everyone wanders out here. In fact I would argue that staying here at the "resort" is a form of "glamping" that you hear so much about these days. And what is wrong with that? Sure it is not up to Hilton standards but would you really expect that in the middle of nowhere? In addition to accommodations, there is a small bar with a few food offerings and a convenience store for campers. Nothing offered is spectacular from a culinary perspective, but it can serve its purpose of filling you up in the right circumstances. It's also nice to have a place to buy ice nearby! (If you have ever been camping you might appreciate what it means to have good ice at the ready). There is an outside patio with shade and a nice view of the lake, if you happen to be looking for a spot to chill and enjoy a cold one on a hot summer day. They also have boat rentals, which tend to go quickly, but if you manage to get one you can have a great time on the lake for a reasonably affordable price. That is the primary advantage to making the trek to this lake, versus the closer (and paved) Canyon Lake, which can be a mob scene on crowded days. Overall if you like roughing it "a bit" and avoiding huge crowds, then you might like it here. Four stars!

Our stay there started off a little bit rocky because someone was in our spot claiming that the site let them double book the spot next to us. It took about an hour for us to get everything figured out but the employees were super helpful and nice even though the person in our spot was trying everything that they could to stay in our spot. They also had a country concert that night, which was really fun until everybody decided to bring it back to the campsites and play bass music and party until about 445 in the morning. I spoke with the same employee the next day, and they said that this is the first time that they were trying the concerts out to see what type of crowd would attend, and it didn't seem like they were impressed with them either so it didn't seem like it was the fault of The campsite. We rented a pontoon boat the next day which was amazing. The views are spectacular. The people like I said working there are wonderful and I would definitely recommend it. Hopefully next time we don't have as much shenanigans.

Apache Lake Marina & RV Resort is beyond disappointing! We were on our way traveling from Texas to California. We were driving out of our way to stay here, the website made it seem like a nice and relaxing place. During our drive to Apache Lake Marina & RV Resort I started reading the reviews and saw that it was an hour drive on a dirt road. That is NOT safe for our family of five (including an infant). We called and left a message (no one answered) to cancel. We never heard from anyone until later in the evening when they called to see where we were. Clearly they do not check voicemails! They said a manager would be in touch with us at the beginning of the week for a refund. The manager didn't call us back for four weekdays. When the manager called she offered 30% off (at first) due to "last minute cancellation and not able to book our space". She admitted on the phone they weren't at full capacity that evening, but still wouldn't give more than 60% off. My husband and I are both business owners. This is NOT the way you run a business. If there is unsafe conditions, you make it right. We did not accept the 60% refund, we'd rather have our voices heard about Apache Lake Marina & RV Resort. Their website should be EXTREMELY clear about the road conditions. In fact, the other side of the road (highway 88) is SHUT DOWN! Due to a fire, rain, and mudslides! That wasn't on their website either!! There is nothing easily seen on their website regarding these hazardous conditions (nothing I could find). If it's on the website it's a needle in a haystack. The website should have a banner stating these facts! It should have bullet points stating these facts. It should be in the descriptive paragraph! Guests shouldn't have to research ongoing road issues and they should know what they are signing up for! BEYOND THANKFUL for the other reviews that informed us of these hazardous and unsafe conditions! If the manager would have offered a full refund due to the hazardous and unsafe driving conditions we would have had a positive experience. This review would have been a lot different.

*1/5 stars - very disappointed…read more Our stay at Kohls Ranch cabins in Payson, Arizona, was an absolute disaster. The cabin was infested with spiders - we're talking dozens. It was like they were waiting for us to arrive. We tried to make the best of it, but the bugs were everywhere. But that wasn't even the worst part. The refrigerator stopped working altogether, leaving us with warm drinks and spoiled food. When we reported the issue to management, they brought us a mini refrigerator that could barely even hold our drinks. We had to throw away over a hundred dollars in food that had become warm due to it not working. The cabin itself was okay . The overall experience was disappointing and stressful. We also had issues with the one bbq that was shared between 3 cabins it would not light... again, we had to call management. *Tips for improvement:* 1. Exterminate the spider infestation 2. Maintain functional appliances 3. Respond to guest concerns 4. Leave at least one cabin open for emergency situations like this. We are extremely disappointed with our expirence. This was sapose to be our summer family vacation with our children, but it was cut short because there were no other cabins available. I hope Kohls Ranch can fix these issues because this literally ruined our summer vacation, not to mention our time and money wasted.

Great place to stay. Awesome amenities and great location. Tons of things to do on site.read more

The space to play games, have family cookouts, all the things for kiddos to do was HUGE! I can't say enough amazing things about the cabins on strawberry hill , and a huge plus was the staff! They were so great, so welcoming and how they trusted us in their space was amazing! The ceremony views were also incredible! I could go on and on of how great my wedding weekend was and that's because we chose cabins on strawberry hill! Sad it's already over ! The Cabins at Strawberry Hill is an absolute MUST wedding venue! We booked our wedding almost two…read moreyears in advance, and from the moment we toured the property, Rick completely sold us on the vision and he did not disappoint. Our entire wedding weekend was truly magical. One of the biggest highlights is that you get all 14 cabins on-site for your guests, which makes the experience feel like a private mountain retreat with all your favorite people. Waking up in the morning and seeing wildlife, elk and deer roaming the property was such a special touch that you just can't get anywhere else. The property itself is breathtaking from every angle. The new ceremony overlook site is absolutely stunning, offering views that make your "I do" moment feel unreal. And the string lights that stretch from cabin to cabin and over the dance floor completely transform the space at night. It's magical, warm, and gives off that perfect cozy Hallmark movie vibe. They also provide a super helpful wedding portal for communication. It lays out a clear timeline of all the tasks that need to be completed, each with a deadline, which makes it so easy to stay on track and feel organized throughout the planning process. We used their recommended food vendor, Marcus at Gibson's Smokehouse, who was incredible--the food was amazing. We also had the best team of vendors who are familiar with the venue and with each other, which made everything run even smoother: Photographers: Spets Photography, Videographers: Bumblebee Photo Film, DJ: Javier at C-West Entertainment, Wedding Coordinator: DianaCatherineWeddings Each of them played such a huge role in making the venue shine and bringing our day to life. Another huge perk is that you can bring in most of your own vendors, giving you the flexibility to create the exact wedding you want. The owners (Rick, Amanda & Jason), who live on-site, are incredibly kind, welcoming, and available 24/7 if needed. They walk around during the wedding to ensure everything is running smoothly, and their presence adds such a comforting and supportive touch. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the venue was and how much fun they had. It was seriously the best day ever. We couldn't have envisioned a more perfect wedding from the location, to the setup, to the people who made it all happen. If you're looking for a magical, scenic, cozy, and unforgettable place to get married, this is the place to have your wedding. Highly, highly recommend!- Megan & Cierra
