Sometimes just want chinese food joint fried chicken wings and french fries. This place has nice a and crispy wings and crinkle fries. The crunchy texture stays even for the ride home. Take out is vital during this pandemic. No seriously. Sense of normalcy safely and carefully is good for the psyche. This place has a very strict way of traffic on which way to pick up your food. Business has taken their health and that of others seriously. I have not tried other dishes yet. I'm interested in their Chinatown bowl specials on wall. I generally judge how well a Chinese take out place is by their hot and sour soup. Biased? Maybe, but I am a big fan of hot and sour soup. Most places make it thick, some too watery...not sure why I find this soup to be the litmus test of really good Chinese take out but I do. Usually if the soup is mediocre so is the food. Needless to say, Golden Wheel's hot and sour soup had a funny taste and they put HUGE chunks of onions in it...not green onions, but standard yellow onions. I attached a picture of it and note that the chunks of white, are not tofu but yellow onion. I do agree with the other review that the chicken and broccoli was tasty, the fried rice should be skipped as it is very greasy and crispy. Came here because the sushi place next door was closed and I was in the area. I ordered the Chinatown noodle soup with wontons. It was okay. Not too good, not too bad. It really just tasted like a decked out wonton soup with lower quality ingredients. It came with wontons, scallions, bok choy and bean sprouts in a (beef?) broth. For $6.75, it was rather expensive. Probably won't be coming back, as the soups in Stony Brook and East Setauket and even Centereach are superior. read more

It was amazing start to dinner. The fried rice was amazing, the boneless ribs were very good. I was so amped up cause so far one of the best places I have in this area. Then I tried the sesame chicken and it was awful, This killed the entire meal. I love Sesame chicken and this was by far the worst ever. So disappointed!!! read more

We used to be regular customers here. The food was decent nothing to rave about. Then we noticed the egg rolls and spring rolls were getting smaller and the prices were getting higher. A few times they even charged us for items we never received. We stopped going there. Today, I happened to be in the shopping center and figured it would be quick. $16 for a lunch special, soup, spring roll smaller than my pinky and white rice. Ok, it's your standard chinese take out fare. You know, you're hungry after an hour, you slightly regret whatever you just ate..... But I saw people in the kitchen cutting fresh vegetables and cooking them. I was amazed. Got the sweet and sour chicken the first time and it was pretty awful, but decided to give it another shot. Very clean and first time trying their food. The woman at the counter was nice at first but as soon as I went to pay, I was handing her my debit card and she said "Sir look at the sign...$15 minimum!!!" & she said it with sarcasm. I don't mind paying for good food but their food is a little on the pricey side. She took it and said I have to remember for next time lol funny thing is...THERE WONT BE A NEXT TIME. I am a regular here. It's clean. You can ALWAYS depend on the food being good and fresh! I've NEVER had a bad experience. They are nice people (and funny) and are very quick to please. Rice is always fresh! The chicken dumplings are PHENOMENAL!! I get the Chicken or Roast Pork Lo Mein the most. I think it's the BEST place in town. I've tried ALL the other places in town and sometimes they're good... Too often they're not. Golden Wheel is consistently good eats and you can count on it being fresh. Its not so great. Got a chicken and shrimp dish with veggies and vegetable low mein........the veggies were fresh, I will say that, but the fried rice that came with it was old and crusty. The shrimps were so small, and I'm not exactly sure what kind of meat the "chicken" was supposed to be?? The low mein was ok. Definitely needed more soy sauce, but the noodles were good. Wouldn't totally rule it out, but I wouldn't run there for anything special. read more

Definitely order the Singapore noodles. Shrimp with lobster sauce, chicken with broccoli are good, too. And service is always prompt and friendly. I've tried other Chinese restaurants in the area, but I always come back to this one. I like it a lot! read more
