Fred is the absolute best! My cockroach infestation in my home was to the point where I was ready to move out. Fred came out to my place that same day and talked me through the entire process. He ensured me I would not be seeing any more roaches and if I did, that he would be back to take care of it! Thank you so much Fred for making my home feel like home again. read more

Golden Termite is the best! Golden Termite, owned by the amazing Fred Chang, made our termite fumigation a total breeze! From start to finish, Fred was incredibly attentive and helpful, taking away all our worry and anxiety about this tough project. He explained every prep step crystal clear, knew just the perfect spot for us and our cat (pointing us to the fabulous SurfJack Hotel in Waikiki), and guided us effortlessly through it all. They did a phenomenal job--our house is termite-free and stress-free! Fred, you're a lifesaver--highly recommend! read more

Fred runs a very trustworthy local small business that feels like family. He is so kind and generous with providing services, and doesn't have the corporate coldness you normally see with pest control companies. He can be very accommodating as long as you communicate as much as you can about all the different pests you need help with and whether or not you have animals/pets. I heard about Fred Chang and his services through a recommendation, and there's a reason he is recommended so highly amongst locals and realtors. Fred runs his small business, and he is very easy to get ahold of over the phone and through text to schedule an appointment. I was able to get an appointment within a week of calling. Over the phone I explained that I had evidence of termites in my condo with some "dust" that had built up in my cabinets, and that I was overdue for an annual roach and pest treatment. All he asked was that I empty my kitchen cupboard and cabinets which is where the termite dust was, that I didn't clean the dust build up so he could see where it was, and that I make sure I had a safe place to take my cat or that I could lock my cat in the bathroom and seal any openings with towels or rags. The most important part of hiring pest control is being clear about what the problems were I was seeing and that I had a pet in the house so we could be prepared, and Fred was great at communicating what I needed to do to prepare for the service. Fred showed up on time and was extremely patient, explaining what he was doing, why, and pointing out where the termites were coming from and how he was treating for it. He is extremely knowledgeable of the different types of pests and beetles and the different methods needed to identify their sources and treatments for them. I know I can trust that if I see the termite dust again next year or any cockroaches I can call him and he will come take care of it. read more

Fred at Golden Termite was amazing! He answered my call on a weekend and promptly helped my son in Honolulu take care of an acute bug issue. I highly recommend using Golden Termite for any pest issues you might have - real old school Hawai'i friendliness and service. read more

Quick, efficient and professional. Easy to schedule. I would recommend this small business.

Out of a recommendation, we contacted this company to come and apply treatment for ants, roaches, beetles, etc. After full 48 hours we still see live beetles on the sides and corners that treatment was applied on. I contacted them. Instead of coming again to see what else they can do Fred, the owner, bailed out offering us a refund. It appears his experience is not sufficient to handle to certain bugs and he doesn't care about his customers' needs. I should have listened to the reviews left before. As such, I cannot recommend Fred and his company for pest control. God forbid what we would do if this was termite related rather than pests. read more

I have worked with Fred Chang at Golden Termite at least 50 times over the last 18 years I have been a real estate agent on the island of Oahu. When given the opportunity or choice, I always always choose Golden Termite for all of my termite inspections, tenting and pest control needs. Fred is the very best in the business. He knows more about bugs and bug control than anybody I've ever met in my life, he makes it fun and interesting, and he is so kind, caring, responsive, professional and terrific at what he does! His team is wonderful, and the prices are very fair. You will be very happy that you chose to have Fred and his team to take care of your pest control. Oh, please ask him any question about bugs, and he will be happy to tell you a story or two... I find him fascinating, and one of the kindest human beings I have met. read more

Fred, Phillip, and Jay were honest about what they saw and gave a recommendation for pest treatment based on both cost and practicality. I felt like my business was valued, and I learned about the science of termite nests as Fred explained what was going on in my home. It answered so many mystery questions we had that other companies who gave us quotes couldn't answer. The team clearly knows what they're doing and has decades of wisdom around termite behavior. They vacuumed up the frass everywhere after they were done and put our dresser back the way it was, which was unexpected. The quoted year-long warranty was incredibly reasonably priced. We will work with them again for termite issues. read more

If I could put Zero stars I would. They inspected a 315 sq ft unit for one of my clients. They showed up tardy in a unmarked / no logo sedan. The inspector looked like he was sleeping in passenger seat before jumping out. For sure get you naps in but not in front of clients. Inspector shows up in plain clothes with no identifiable logo shirt. Inspection last all of 5 mins then he says all good and leaves. I asked the inspector the price and he said $250, which I felt was high considering the size of the unit. I then got a bill for $350 which is even more of a rip off. Hope to never have to work with them again. Agents and sellers be warned. Employee Frank gave me a lot of bs over the phone. Whole company seems like a scam. read more

As a Realtor, I've worked with Fred often for the past 18 years. He's incredibly knowledgeable and will spend as much time as needed to answer all of my and my client's questions. Through the years, I've found Feed to be dependable and honest. Will definitely continue to recommend him to my clients. read more

Fred is one of the best. Great customer service and very thorough. I always use them with my real estate transactions.

I originally wasn't going to give a review because I did get somewhat of an apology from the owner (I had to call him for it though) But when they went through escrow and not me in order to get paid I was livid. This inspection company was chosen by the buyer as is normal policy for a home sale. We schedualed a time for them to arrive and I would be there as well. Instead they arrived 5 hours ahead of scheduale with no one in the home except my cats. Come home early expecting them to arrive at 2:30 and I find my place has been trashed with doors open bags everywhere and more importantly they left my sink doors open which contain roach traps and chemicals that could have killed my cats if they got into it. I was of course furious because I came home to a torn up place. I wanted to be there when they did the inspection. They came of their own accord without even telling my realtor they had come early and violated my privacy. And to top it off with the half handed apology they gave me instead of coming to me for payment they went through escrow and never even spoke to me. This company is shady and abhorant to any sensible human privacy and will not take into consideration the owners concerns. This review wouldn't have happened if they would have gone through me and not escrow for payment. How do I know they actually did their job if I wasn't even at the home when they did it? Granted they said it had no termites...but for 350 bucks after the fact of them violating my privacy is terrible. I do not recommend this company at all. read more

Professional and accommodating. Came highly recommended. I called them at the last minute and they accommodated.

What a pleasure it was to meet Fred Chang! Such an honest soul and so personable yet professional and down to earth. He was so nice! And so informative! It was like I knew him forever. He is not one of those money-hungry jerks who would try to sell an Eskimo an igloo just to make some money; he actually saved the owner of our rental approx $7K by thoroughly checking our house for termites (there were none) and not recommending another tenting for some time. The owner thought it had to be done every five years but Mr. Chang recommends maybe once every 10-20 years because of the material used in the construction. Who knew? Now we do! Thank you so much Mr. Fred Chang! You are officially awesome! read more

Golden Termite and Pest Control - Nicest guy I have ever met! - Pest Control Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Beware. Worst termite inspection company ever. Was in a pinch since several my go to termite inspectors weren't available. They showed up late and requested the buyers to come exactly when they arrive. How are you supposed to do an inspection and the summary at the same time??? Total rip off! read more

I had to take care of my kapuna's house and needed someone to treat the place. I'm so glad he came highly recommended because he's over the top! Not only was his service great but I was truly impressed by the additional treatment in making sure all the critters are gone. He's a great teacher! He explains and I like that! I highly recommend him! Five star experience! read more

Fred and his associate completed an unsatisfactory termite inspection for the closing of our house that left the ongoing termite issue unaddressed. It appeared as if he quickly conducted the inspection of our unit and left very vague and confusing drawings and recommendations in the report. What makes this situation worse is that after we closed and moved in, we found more evidence of termites in other areas of the kitchen cabinets that he supposedly inspected and could have been addressed as part of closing negotiations. The areas that we found after the inspection was commonly inspected areas with clear evidence of termites (droppings and wings) which makes this error that much more egregious. He was unable to answer to questions as to why his area was missed and was talking nonsense to avoid taking accountability. While he did give us a 1 year warranty for treatment, this entire termite situation could have been fully addressed prior to us closing. We have now inherited a termite issue as new home buyers because of the lack of care and attention to detail of this man. Please be careful if and when using this company. Oversight is needed to ensure quality inspection. read more

This company was chosen for me during my escrow and they inspected without me. I had them come back a second time to reinspect and he even admitted to not having checked my areas of concern. He didn't want to check under the home. Now a few weeks later and again I am seeing fecal pellets from termites so now I am going to have to ask them a third time to come back. I would NEVER use this company! read more

We needed a termite inspection report for the selling of our home. Unfortunately we first went with Kamaaina Pest Control with much regret when we should have called Fred Chang with Golden Termites. Kamaaina claimed we had a termite issue when it was just a small rotten peice of wood on the exterior of our home. Even after several discussions and reviews with them they still wanted to charge us an outrageous amount to treat a rotten piece of wood where there was clearly no live termite activity. They were completely unreasonable and frankly liars. Fred on the other hand was honest, professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. He saved us a ton of money and heartache. He promptly answered my call and scheduled with me within two days. Fred and his employee were thurough in inspecting the questionable piece of exterior wood trim and confirmed there was no live activity. Fred went above and beyond to inspect the rest of my home. Thankfully we had no other issues and no termites! We're extremely satisfied with his professional approach and we would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for great termite services. He will be fair and honest about your termite issues. Mahalo Fred! read more
