Today Golden State Tree Service cut, pulled and cleaned out fat roots from two big Ficus trees which started growing through our lawn close to our house. I used Golden State to remove a couple trees and grind down a stump. Alonso came out to give a quote while his crew was in the neighbor hood. I not only liked the quote but Alonso said they could come over next. Within an hour his crew was here taking care of my quote. I ended up going over my quote because Alonso pointed out I had an existing stump where the new one was and I asked for that to be ground out as well and I added some other work in since things were going so well. They protected the windows as they worked close to the house and cleaned up all the debris when they were finished. Really nice crew, hard workers and fast! Initially, i left a telephone message for Alonzo. When he returned the call i told him that i had contacted someone who was coming out to give me a quote the next day. He said that he would like to give a quote as well and we agreed that he would come the next day. Alonzo arrived on schedule and was very pleasant and professional as he assessed the job. He seemed to understand what was needed to do the job. He gave me a quote which was, in fact, the lowest bid i had received as of that time but he wanted to do the job the very next day and I would have been unavailable that day, plus i was waiting on one more quote. I have called him twice since that time to schedule a date to no avail. After my last attempt I found someone who actually completed the job a few hours ago. Failure to return my call is reflects poor customer service. I am extremely busy and always on the go so it's very important to me that i deal with folks who respect that. My low score is for his failure to return my call and wasting of my time, I can't speak to the quality of his work. read more

I called Alonso yesterday to schedule a consultation today at 2:00 PM. I waited until 3:00 PM and he still did not show up nor gave me a call. So I called him and found he didn't even remember who I was nor about my appointment. He asked my address three times on the phone. Finally, he said he found the appointment and will be at my house in 30 minutes (3:30 PM). It's now 4:30 PM and still no sign or any calls from him. Last week we hired Golden State again! This time it was for a 100ft+ back yard years-old Monterey Pine! ...A strong stately tree that over the years spread over our home giving welcome shade but not so welcome heavy branches! This year's Santa Ana winds blew ferociously through the tree and I grew tired of worrying about heavy branches falling on our house! Alonso's crew arrived early morning and worked hard all day long. Their wood chipper worked its magic and they cleaned up again very well . They were also respectful of the roof tiles which break easily. Highly recommended! I needed a 25 foot Chinese Elm removed because it was growing against my garage and causing damage. Called Alonso in the evening and he came out for an estimate the next afternoon. Very nice guy, we not only talked trees but we ended up talking cars too. He looked at the job at hand and gave me a very reasonable estimate, in fact the price was so good I added 3 six foot potato bushes to the job. The price was still good! He even said he could do the job while I was at work and he would come by for the money later when I got home. We were working around a few rainy days but as soon as the sun was out he and his crew came by and did the job in a few hours. They left the house very clean! This tree was a nuisance and now my neighbors and I are happy that we all have a little more sunshine in our backyards. Reliable and fast. I called for a quote on Tuesday and the trees were trimmed by Wednesday. Alonzo came to give me a quote, he came very late because of car trouble, which is understandable. He called to let me know and gave me a discount for the inconvenience. My neighbor didn't want to unlock their gate so the crew could get access but they used long ladders and some kind of picker upper to clean up my neighbor's yard. The crew worked really well together and everyone looked like they knew what they were doing. My only knock on them is communication skills. My Spanish is very poor and the workers had limited English skills, so I couldn't really communicate with them how much of the tree I want trimmed. The tree looks fine but I think they cut a little too much off. I figure it will grow back. Also, I was hoping for a receipt of service, but the worker didn't have it. I will use them again, but next time I will request for Alonzo to stop by before his crew gets started to translate for me. read more

I based on Yelp referral asked three companies to estimate. This company has license, bonded, and insurance. They gave me the lowest price. They give discount if it is referred by Yelp! Six people came on time at 10:30am and finished at 5pm with brief lunch break in between. They did the great jobs in trimming trees, cleaning area, and cleaning roof. They are very careful of my cable lines hanging in the back yard. They have good attitude for my minor requests. I definitely will refer this company to my friends. read more

While this company's main business is tree trimming, they also do landscaping (sprinkler setup / repair) so I decided to give it try. My sprinklers were already in place but the timer was broken (haven't been used for years) so I thought it was time for a new timer. Alonso, the owner, came to give me an estimate and thoroughly explained what needed to be done. He sent 1 of his guys to have the work done although I did encounter some minor problems afterwards: 1. the timer was plugged to my outdoor outlet without a plastic cover 2. Two sprinkler heads did not work the next day, but were working well when his guy finished the job on day 1 After reading the manuals, 1 of the solutions would be to have a "while-in-use outlet cover" installed so I bought one from a local store and installed it myself. A small glitch but in the end I had it sorted out. I explained to him about the sprinkler heads problem and we setup another appointment time. He came with his guys to fix the problem and in addition he decided to move 1 of the pipes so that the sprinkler would cover my lawn better. The two heads were my old ones that haven't been used for years. He replaced them, free of charge. All in all, this company provides professional and friendly service. Minor problems were encountered but in the end they were professionally solved. Next time I need my trees trimmed, I will definitely use their service. read more

Alonso is great. He and his team have done an excellent job at our home and we've used them about 4 times over the past three years. They have trimmed the top of our potocarpus trees that were about thirty feet high and they looked great after the cut. They've also trimmed our palm trees and did a really nice job as well. They also trimmed our citrus trees and know how to prune trees to promote growth. I just called Alonso to help me cut a small stump because my electric chainsaw wouldn't cut it. First of all the company has a license, which was very important for us because we wanted to ensure that we were insured in case something happened. Our tree was a very tall and large pine tree and covering an electric wire. One person came for estimates soon after my husband called and gave us a good price. We compared it with a couple other companies but found that they gave us the lowest price. The day they were supposed to do tree cutting, they called and told us that their truck was broken down, so they postponed to two days later. The work started around 10:00 am and finished around 6:15 pm. They worked continuously and had a short lunch break. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. We had a tree that seemed quite sick in the back. No leaves on three quarters of it, and looked like something a wicked witch was hiding in. Based on Yelp reviews, I called Golden State, and not only was their bid the same as the ones solicited by the owners of the house we rent, only Alonso pointed out how dangerous the tree was, explained how to look at the tree for decay, to see how the bark was cracking and the limbs were actually separating from the trunk, and that we were in real risk of the twenty foot long branches cracking off, and the tree just falling over into the house. He advised me to immediately stop parking underneath it. It wasn't a sales' tactic, (I've worked in sales myself and can tell....), he was genuinely concerned for our safety. Because the bids were nearly the same, the owners of the house let me go ahead and hire Golden State for the job. I called and Alonso remembered me and the tree, and said he'd sent a team out immediately. I explained it would have to be later in the week, since I didn't have the landlord's payment yet. Alonso said it was okay. The tree was so dangerous it should be taken out immediately. He said he'd come by later in the week for the check. I was floored by this act of trust and concern for our safety. A team of four men and a HUGE TRUCK came. They took the tree completely out, stump included, in less than three hours. After pulling the stump they mulched it, and spread it neatly out all over the back part of the lawn. They cleaned up. They watered. When they were done, my yard had never been so clean and beautiful. The men were polite and extremely capable and efficient. The quality of work more than I could have hoped.
