Where do I begin? I was given Mauricio's name and number a few months ago, by someone who cared what we were going through. We had to move my 94 yr old, father-in-law, as soon as possible. The assisted living place he had called "home" for the last 11 years, raised his rent and care by over $1,500.00 a month, practically overnight. Since we were already supplementing his care, this raise would have to be paid by us. We are 70 yrs old, on limited incomes ourselves. It seemed an impossible situation. To make it worse, we all live out of town, and due to Covid and our own medical issues, we had to do everything by phone and virtual, until the actual moving day. Mauricio was great! I felt calmed down after talking with him. It wasn't long before he got back to us with a place who could take my father-in-law. And it would actually be less then we had been paying, for the last few years. The new place wasn't far from where he lived before. He would have the same medical group, and way more "in house" services. I got the feeling that Mauricio presented our situation to this assisted care facility, with very caring concern. They all worked with us long distance, and it was amazing how smooth it went. Two family members drove 6+ hours each way, and did the whole move-out and move-in in 4-5 days. The new assisted care actually had people help unpack boxes and settle him in. It was amazing how caring they were. The place he lived for 11 yrs?? Nothing in the way of help. I feel like my father-in-law, who served in the Navy, during WW2 and the Korean war, deserves good care at a fair price. Mauricio went above and beyond to help us get that for him. We visited the RCFE twice and my mom liked it. However, on moving day, she changed her mind. My mom apparently is not ready yet. I met Mauricio a few years ago. My family was facing somewhat of a crisis regarding my sister. She had been diagnosed with a neurological issue and it was becoming more obvious that she was not capable of taking care of herself. Her provided us literature on placement agencies. We met with Mauricio. His concern, professionalism and overall empathy was very impressive. He was so kind and easy to talk to and understood how difficult this was for us. He recommended board and care. However, since my sister would not hear of leaving her home, we decided to try in-home caregivers and more family assistance. Eventually my sister's friend, from whom she had been renting a home for over 16 years, decided it was no longer feasible for her to live in the house. She found an assisted living facility for my sister and convinced her to move. The place was not a good fit and after a few months my sister was asked to leave. I immediately called Mauricio. He remembered us and the challenges we had with my sister. I told him that her condition has worsened and we needed something more than assisted living. He again suggested a board and care facility and recommended one he thought would be a good fit for my sister. The man is a genius and a saint. The place he choose is great. I needed help finding my mom a place she could live at cause it was getting hard for me having my own disabilities. Trying to find places and braking care physically of a loved one was so hard . Mauricio from Golden Pathways took an impossible and extremely emotional situation and made everything work out for my mom. She is 95 years old and she needed to move from her lifetime home into an assisted living. Mauricio found us Atria Del Rey in Rancho Cucamonga. She is very close to family and will now have more social and physical activities. It was the hardest thing we as a family have ever had to do. I first met Mauricio of Golden Pathways in 2016 during a period in which my 88 year old father began to experience a decline in his physical health and needed a higher level of care than he was getting at his assisted living facility. Mauricio spent considerable time speaking to me on the phone in order to understand our situation and needs. He then scheduled appointments to tour several Board and Care facilities in the Glendale/Altadena/Pasadena area. Although I considered all options to be good ones, at the time my father was resistant to moving, so he remained at his assisted living facility. Over the course of the next year his condition worsened. When it was no longer an option for him to stay in his own apartment, I called Mauricio and, once again, he quickly responded and took me to tour several Board and Care facilities in Altadena/Pasadena, one of which ended up being a perfect fit for my father. The caretakers were loving, responsible, patient, and gentle; the food was fresh and delicious; the house was clean and well maintained. My father passed on in early January 2019 and, although I'm still processing this loss, I am grateful for the help and support Mauricio and Golden Pathways extended to my family. Unlike some of the larger organizations that work with families seeking elderly care - many of which are national corporations with customer service representatives located in other states - Maurico works out of a local office on Allen Ave in Pasadena. He is responsive and accessible, both on the phone and in person, and helps to guide families through the complicated and emotional process of understanding available options and locating the right one - at no cost to your family. His professionalism, empathy, experience, and knowledge ended up being a tremendous asset when it came to my family's situation.
