When we first viewed the EMRV website we thought, how charming and pleasant it appeared and how wonderful it sounded with regard to the level of care of the residents. Then we visited and were amazed to see that everything said was not only true, but actually understated. The first thing we noticed is how well maintained the property is, the beautiful rose garden in the front, the welcoming front porch. In the back yard we found meticulously cared for amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy, a beautiful gazebo, a garden with fresh fruits and veggies grown for use in food preparation, all personally tended by Andy Kohler. When we entered house we saw, felt, and smelled the most inviting, warm, cozy, immaculately kept home (not facility). Each common room in the house is comfortable and inviting to residents and visitors. The environment is peaceful and serene, just what we were looking for as our mother had progressed far enough with Alzheimer's that she now needed a calm and nurturing environment with more attention to her care. Each resident room is charming, beautifully decorated and again, spotless.
Observations during every visit to see our beloved Mother included the aroma of good food being home cooked, residents clean, extremely well groomed, dressed, treated with care, dignity and respect in every detail. It was a pleasure to visit Mom there but also to spend a little time with some of the other residents. As Mom's illness progressed and she was less able to communicate, we would just sit and snuggle on the sofa. She always looked so nice, smelled fresh and clean and had the softest skin. We learned from the team how much Mom enjoyed her daily shower time and lotion massages. Mom always worried when she was younger and knowing what her disease held for her future about not wanting to appear unkempt so we know how much she would have appreciated the attention the staff at EMRV pays to all those feminine details.
The staff, who I refer to as The EMRV Angels, are amazing and most have been there a long time, a great testimony to how well they are treated and respected.
Great attention is paid to learning each resident's (and their family's) likes/dislikes, the things that bring joy to their life or things that might distress them. Every effort is made to make the resident as comfortable and happy as possible. We got timely and detailed reports so that we could inform Mom's doctors, frequent communication about effects of any medication changes, observations about any behavior changes. Andy often helped us learn to cope and understand the stages and phases of Alzheimer's, what to expect, etc. Think about the effort and dedication that takes! It is evidence of a superbly managed facility and well-trained staff who consistently focus on their mission.
Having the right medical team, or hospice, when that time came, was so important and we worked hand in hand with Andy and Yelly to do our very best for Mom in that area. They communicated well with both the medical teams and with us in every detail of Mom's condition and care as time passed.
EMRV is not just a business for Andy and Yelly Kohler and their staff. They work hard every minute of every day to make sure residents are cared for, loved, and made to feel as family to them. They physically step in to be family in every way. The hugs and warm physical touches they gave to Mom gave her comfort for sure but it gave us great comfort as well when we couldn't do that directly.
As hard as it was to watch as Mom's illness progressed, and to face the challenges that came with that, each time we would leave after visiting, we would thank God for Andy, Yelly, and their staff. We worried about Mom, of course, but never about how well she was being cared for. The peace of mind that came when Mom moved to EMRV is indescribable.
EMRV is our family and we love them.
We trust Andy, Yelly and their Angels implicitly and without hesitation, would highly recommend EMRV to anyone.
Andy takes a great deal of time when considering a new resident (or staff member) joining the EMRV family to ensure the kind of environment he wants to provide for the resident/family and staff. Anyone who is fortunate enough to have their loved one live at EMRV will come to appreciate that.
With Gratitude, Love, and Thanks for the love and care EMRV provided to our beloved Mother. read more
