So, after asking friends and everyone I met about what they did and who they used, we found out about Arcadia Gardens Retirement Hotel. I was really happy with the care my mom got there. With their help, she recovered from the first stroke and was able to get around and feed herself. Over time, she had another stroke, a heart attack, and eventually had memory loss, spending her last years in memory care. I want to say that not only did my mom get wonderful care, but they also cared about me! They made sure I understood what my mom needed. They went over her meds, always explaining what she was taking, and talked about diapers, what brands worked best for her, wheelchairs, mattresses for the hospital bed, and so on. I will say I went several times each week to check on things - it's teamwork, and with Arcadia Gardens on my team, my mom had a good life right up until the end. Of course, every facility has its ups and downs -- no place is perfect -- but this one is definitely among the better ones. Julie actually listens to our concerns and needs, and the kitchen staff is very accommodating with anything our mother needs. While the call light response time could be a little quicker at times, we understand how busy the caregivers are. Overall, we are truly grateful. The staff was so lovely and accommodating and as we walked around I noticed that they had at least twice as many staff as I've seen at the other places we've explored. It really made me feel reassured that my family member would be very well taken care of. My mom was also very pleased with the idea of having her own room, and since she loves to garden in her free time, the nurses assured her that she was more than welcome to get her hands dirty if she wanted to. I really wanted to find a place where my mom can feel at ease and happy but where she can still be looked after, especially in an emergency. I think we've found the perfect place.

There was a large parking lot, plenty of street parking, and parking across the street at the park. The building is very clean, quiet, cozy, has a warm ambiance. Marco gave me the tour. He is a wealth of information and very personable. Anything I asked him, he answered with confidence, and if he didn't know the answer, he did thorough research to find out and get the information to me in a timely manner. From what I've seen so far, it seems like the retirement communities in this general area are either on one end of the spectrum, targeting a lower-income population and providing less amenities, or on the other end, targeting very wealthy families who can afford to pay 10K+/month for luxury and hotel style care and amenities. This community seems to be the only one in the middle, with very competitive rates, but a nicer, cleaner, calmer building than the others with similar rates. Also, their pricing is all-inclusive, not a la carte like many of the other places I've toured, so that's a huge perk for my aunt. Overall, I got a very nice impression of this place. Marco is always available to answer my followup questions, and I think my aunt would be very comfortable here.

Not all that glitters is gold…read more I interviewed here and watched staff perform a three-person manual lift for a restroom transfer--something that should be done with a rolling commode, not three people straining with backs bent to keep a resident from falling. This is not a safe lift technique for staff or residents. Especially those who may be fall risks or wheelchair bound - as this resident was. Turns out transfers are routinely done in this unsafe manner because the 25-resident memory unit has only one rolling commode for the whole unit. One. Thats shameful. When this was brought to Director-level management, there was apparently no interest in the resident's care plan or in finding out why the unit wasn't properly equipped. The Director was only interested in finding out who disclosed the information. For a facility charging up to $40,000 a month, this level of basic equipment shortage is unacceptable. And the witch-hunting behavior of management towards nursing staff who bring valid concerns over safety is ridiculous. I am not impressed and I would not recommend.

Adriana took care of my mother-in-law for 10 years. We are deeply indebted to Adriana for her loving, kind and gentle care for my mother-in-law. Home Away My grandma…read morehas been living at Home Away Assisted Living for 2 years. Which means she was there before the pandemic hit. When it was allowed, I would regularly visit my grandma. The atmosphere is very warm and Adriana and her family are wonderful. There was a point where my grandma was in a larger facility which was awful because it wasn't clean, and you never knew which nurse you'd get (if you could find one). At Home Away it's just the opposite; My grandma's room, bathroom, and the entire home is kept spotless; and the communication is always with the same nurse, Adriana. It feels less like a 'facility' and more like a home. They've even got a little dog. My grandma loves having an animal companion! Adriana treats my grandma as if she was family. I feel like Adriana and her family are now a little extension of our own family. Adriana is dedicated to being patient, kind and caring to my grandma. She's proud of her business and wants her residents to have the best experience possible. Now that in person visits aren't allowed, Adriana is great with communication and has been helpful with getting my grandma on video calls. I feel secure knowing my gram is safe there during the COVID-19 pandemic. I would highly recommend Home Away Assisted Living to anyone looking for great care for their elderly loved ones.
