My mother is an Air Force vet that has frontotemporal dementia. She is 63, which is a little early to be experiencing this. I went on a tour of this facility back in January, so this has been a very slow process. I told Virgina my mothers age the day of the tour where she wrote it down, as well as other details such as the current facility my mother is at. I was concerned when I would call back to check on the process that she would ask me the same questions over and over, as if Virgina is suffering from dementia herself. She has been making false promises since February when she verbally told me my mother was approved to move in the first week of march. The first week rolled around and I didn't hear anything from Virgina, so i called her direct cell where i have been getting sent to voicemail ever since because she apparently has been having back to back family emergencies or events where she goes out of town (lol). She will send you to voicemail, then ask to call back later through text. I guess this facility was rieed of my checking on the status of the placement because they finally determined today after months of deliberation that my mother is suddenly "too young". This was already after Virginia said she would be moving within a week. They knew my mother's age months ago, it seems as if they are just lazy and want to pick and choose who to care for. Glad they showed their true colors before I sent the person I love the most in the world here... if anyone can suggest facilities that are diverse and have caring staff (as my mother is black), I would be totally open to suggestions because I am starting from square one again.

Where will I go after this hospitalization? Think about the anxiety and tension not knowing where I would be going. As an 84 year old senior citizen, this predicament could be considered filled with debilitating uncertainty. The social worker and case manager both offered information and possible dispositions. One of the referrals was to Giselle Placement Help. In fact the workers gave me a tip to start off with Giselle. I called her first and she gave me three referrals one in Lynnwood and two in the San ​ Fernando Valley. One never called back , one said I was not eligible , and the third was to an administrator who arrived at the hospital at 12:30 p.m. . After extensively interviewing myself he spoke with all the nurses and doctors in the unit and then inform me that I would be eligible to come to his facility and showed me pictures of the private room where I would be . He was extraordinarily kind and made sure that every need that I had was going to be met . In addition he actually helped me move some of my belongings . So you can see that this referral took care of enormous uncertainty and perhaps Karma is involved in making such a successful transition . ​

They regularly have semis idling right outside mine and my neighbor's houses for hours per week. I asked them to have the trucks shut down due to my severe asthma. This was ignored. Any potential residents should understand that there is a ton of noise/back up beeps, idling trucks every day, all before 7am. To sum up, this company doesn't care about their neighbors and I'm concerned about how they may treat their residents.

So my friend has to plan a 4am trip during the week and avoid more crowded hours. That's way too few washers, and one was recently not working so the entire floor had to use another floor's machine. They call me back promptly and communicated with me throughout Covid when I could not visit. The wonderful staff is really the No. 1 reason why I highly recommend No. Lake Villas, but I cannot fail to mention how clean it always is. The rooms are bright and inviting. Cleanliness is so important and its always fresh and clean every time I visit, without fail. My mother is happy, comfortable and so well cared for. The food is wonderful (and my Mother really likes it) and they accommodate any special needs. I've asked for something different if needed and there was never a problem. Communication from staff is another key factor. I am contacted regularly with any changes and updates; I can contact staff or the owner directly which is so helpful. I know how my mother is doing on the days I cannot visit. No matter when I visit (visiting hours are open, so you can always see how well your family member is doing) which is about 2-3 times a week, & and its always fresh smelling, clean and neat. I've gotten to know the other residents and see that they are just as well cared for as my mother. Thank you to the entire North Lake Villa staff for making a safe home for my mother. Everyone had to evacuate for the Altadena Fires and once everything was painted, replaced and/or cleaned we returned and my mother, who does not talk a lot, clearly was happy and comfortable to be back in her home. They make sure to advise me of the great days and the days that aren't so great. Nothing is ever too little that they don't reach out to me. I was a reck once I was advised they had to evacuate but I was contacted as soon as they were settled and I was assured they were all safe and in a great place.
