Hard to believe a medical service can be as attentive as a fine dining restaurant, but that is what this was. We used Five Star for about five days. Medicare and Optum covered the hospice side. I paid separately for 24/7 caregivers through Sincere Care Services, which I chose because I wanted Cantonese and Mandarin speakers so my mother would be more comfortable. Five Star was recommended by the Optum physician on staff. Separately, a family member recommended them too, through a friend whose father had passed the week before. I checked their ratings on Yelp and Google before moving forward, and I am extremely happy with the service we got from start to finish. This is the point where you decide between more hospital intervention, which can be painful, and accepting the situation and moving to hospice. Hospice is the wedding coordinator for a peaceful death. Things can still go wrong even when you plan everything perfectly, but Five Star was there at every step to handle whatever came up. The rough sequence for anyone about to do this: 1. Decide on hospice. 2. Line up caregivers. They are separate from Five Star, but Five Star will point you to good ones. I wanted Chinese-speaking caregivers and Mark made it happen. 3. Coordinate with the hospital on transportation. 4. Be home to receive the supplies. 5. Be home when your loved one arrives. Have a bottle of distilled water ready for the oxygen machine. 6. Have the nurse and the caregiver both there so you can learn the comfort meds. 7. I used 24/7 caregivers on 12-hour shifts. I made a point of being there whenever a new caregiver came on, so I could walk them through the medications and get their phone number. Nurses came once a day to check on my mother since she was close. You do not have to be there the whole time, but I tried to be there for shift changes. One thing I wish I had watched more closely was bowel movements. My mother had been constipated since the hospital because she was not eating. Another tip: put together a playlist of beautiful music to play in the room. Otherwise it is silence, or your loved one is listening to caregivers talk and scroll on their phones. Even when your loved one is not responsive, they are still listening and drifting in and out. Tell them everything will be okay. Thank them for everything they did for you. I think it helps them go peacefully. Anytime I needed something, Mark was a text or a call away and he always answered. Again, they are the wedding coordinators for a loved one's passing, and they will do everything within their power to help you through it. read more

My father needed to be placed on hospice and 5 star was recommended by the assisted living facility he was in. Mark and Alma of Five Star were there for me every step of the way as my father transitioned. Alma was by my dad's side and emotionally and physically with me to the very end. I loved her calm approach and disposition, it put my dad at ease. Her knowledge and experience provided a sense of comfort for me. My 100 year old grandmother was in the hospital to be discharged home and the doctor recommended Five Star hospice to my mom. The owner, Mark was very understanding of our situation and was quickly able to send an overnight nurse to our home the same night. The night nurse Martha was so compassionate and caring with my grandma and empathetic towards us. The daytime nurse Nelson was also very respectful and caring with my grandmother. This facility kicked my grandmother out of hospice just because she didn't pass within the 6 month period. They promised to readmit her with new dr orders and they didn't. They have a very unqualified dr who visits patients. Visiting Dr. Sanders has difficulty walking to even get to the patients room to evaluate patients. Owner Mark is full of undelivered promises. Do not trust him. He does anything to bribe you to leave a good review for his facility. Reviews are fake!! My husband received Hospice Care through Roze Room for 4 months. I could not have asked for more. The whole staff was so loving, gentle and supportive. Our bath nurse, Iris was amazing and taught me so much about caring for my husband. Charlotte, our RN was caring in every way. She understood my feelings and supported me all along the way. There were Hospice companies coming to our hospital room with chocolates, others visiting like we were buying a car. I decided to look at reviews. Thank God I did. Five star had great reviews and I went with my gut. Every single person we had contact with had compassion. Every time we needed someone. They were there. There was not one moment we did not feel alone or get our answers to questions we had. They even helped with my brother who had doubts about the process of not forcing food or water. That was hard. Doctors called him, nurses tried to reason with him. To say the least, they went beyond my expectations. I would recommend this hospice if you are looking for a personal, compassionate, empathetic, and available company. We engaged the service of 5 Star Hospice 7 years ago when our Dad passed away. This is just a quick review to let Mark know how much my siblings and I appreciate him and his team for their outstanding care when our Mom passed away earlier this month. When Mom decided to go home, the hospital recommended a large hospice company to assist us. Due to the high recommendation and the fact the company was able to take our Mom home within hours, we proceeded with them. After 1.5 days, we realized that the quality of service was poor. So I called Mark immediately. Mark amazingly remembered me and my Dad's name as well as other details I wouldn't expect him to recall being the last time we talked was 7 years ago. That was in the late afternoon the second day after Mom came home. To summarize, Mark and his team's service and care during the next 5 days before Mom's passing was excellent. I wish to give them 10 stars!!!!! My mom fractured her ankle at night, had to rush her to Huntington Memorial Hospital ER. Cast was put on to stabilize her leg. Mom was independent with help of walker before this accident. Next day, doctor referred me to Hospice Care provider. Mark Jaratanian came to the hospital and explained their services. Mark arranged for EVERYTHING !!! ............. ambulance, hospital bed, wheel chair, all supplies, medicines, etc, etc, etc!!!! This happened before mom went home that evening!!!! What a fantastic logistics effort!!! Mom is being taken care of by professionals (doctors, nurses, care givers), well qualified, sensitive and caring -- ALL of them!!! We had NO idea of hospice care at all. Learnt very fast and what a positive experience!! After talking to several hospice companies about my father, I decided to move forward with Five Star. I'm so glad I did. From the start, Rosario was the most helpful and knowledgeable person I had talked to regarding my father's needs. She knew to tell me things I hadn't even known to ask. The nurse at his intake appointment was so kind and put him at ease. They were so caring and wonderful with my dad at every stage of his decline. Nurse Genesis became a part of the family. She was great not only for my dad but for managing our care needs. Communication was excellent. I could call Five Star at any hour and we received great assistance no matter the time of day.
