However the chicken place was moving c slowly and I was pressed for time, so I went next door to Golden Krust and purchased several meat patties: spicy beef, mild beef, jerk chicken and mild chicken. (3/19/2024) There was a pretty long and slow moving line on a weekday at lunch time. I do love a spicy beef patty and their was just fine. It can't help but feel like all beef patties everywhere are from some single clone factory, as they all have that dayglo orange pastry crust and almost pureed-like beef filling. Got a small oxtail meal and it is by no means small. They do jam pack the styrofoam take out container with rice and beans and the oxtails and cabbage. Oxtail meals are way to expensive! There were a few instances where all of the meat was not tender. Servers seem to move at an even slower pace when they see the line getter longer. The atmosphere is inviting, the restaurant appearance is always neat, well stocked and clean. read more

I'll order two or three and stuff myself with all of them. Occasionally I'll add jerk chicken, rice & peas, plantains, carrot and rum cakes to my order. The jerk chicken is slow roasted. The meat is super moist and falls off of the bones. The plantains are delicious and there never seems to be enough in an order. I love the rice and peas. It's simple and yet very tasty. Wow! If you are looking for flavor, look no further. This place has got it! Portions are pretty big for the small size, so you may want to share! My hubby and I shared a small oxtail and white rice meal. Meat was falling right off the bone! And was soo good! My son had the stew chicken and white rice and he loved it! I was a bit skeptical because of the location but it's definitely worth going in! If you don't know what you want it can be a bit daunting because you have to get in line to order (cafeteria style). LOVE this side dish I order an EXTRA side because its too damn good! Mac n Cheese - Tad bit dry and grainy for my taste for what I am used to. Still ok. Kind of bland as well. Plaintains - Not too soggy but fried right. Rice n Peas - This has some slight spice to it but very delicious on its own! Its somewhat similar to cuban rice n beans but this has its own carribean taste. Full Meals costs about $8-11 depending what you order. You can get "Express" meals for have the price especially stew chicken! Just mention the ad outside window and depending on who serves you they will give you a "meal" for $4.99! I had high expectations prior going to this here establishment. I had the steam fish by default because they were out of curry chicken and also jerk chicken; which is understandable since we ordered 45 mine from closing time. The steam fish was not bad. The patty (free with check in) was great as usual. The goat soup was kinda malnourished IMO, wasn't the right consistency and overall blah. The atmosphere in this place felt like a corner shop on Jamaica. There is a very wide selection of nyammings. Will go back tomorrow to try something else and a bit earlier. I've been to many Caribbean restaurants in the Orlando area and this is by far my fave. Better than Bob Marley's.....yes, i said it. I've had pretty much everything on the menu. It's like walking distance from my job so I go there all the time on my lunch break. They have daily lunch specials....for like $6 you get an enormous portion of food. Just got a few Items from this joint. Was referred by a local bakery saying they had great beef patties. I ended up leaving with spicy beef patties, chicken patties and some rum fruit cake. I'll start with the cake. Didn't enjoy it as much as I expected, a bit dry for my taste and the flavor was average. The patties were good however I'm not sure how long they were in the food warmer for there was a ton of them in there. Since I've moved to Orlando, I've gained a few um..... *cough* pounds *cough*! I'm woman enough to say that it's been because of my eating habits at all the wonderful eateries in the "City Beautiful". However, I am proud to say that Golden Krust will not be a reason for future weight gain! :-) That's good... right? I really wanted to try jerk chicken, but I was really disappointed that they didn't have any on the evening I visited. So I ended up getting the curry goat (which I haven't had since childhood), rice and peas, and cabbage. I mean the food wasn't bad. Actually, it was fairly good, but my meal didn't leave me wanting more. It really was nothing that I would rave about. I will say that Golden Krust definitely reminds me of some of that down home Jamaican cuisine I'd become familiar with growing up, but this wasn't the best I ever had (in my Drake voice). BONUS: The environment really felt like a Caribbean restaurant, which was definitely a plus! They carried a lot of Jamaican/Caribbean specialties that you can't find at a regular supermarket. I would say at best Golden Krust is just ok. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, rice, cabbage and plantains with my free beef patty to-go. My chicken was spicy but pretty dry, the cabbage was cooked well but could have used a bit more flavor, the rice was ok but the plantains hit the mark. My beef patty was very traditional and delish! I could have ate 2 more of those! I don't know if I will dine at Golden Krust again...I may just go back for some beef patties. You do get a large portion for $7 that could feed two people. First time having their patties was actually at a Jamaican restaurant in Las Vegas that ships them from the east coast. Being able to actually in a restaurant was dope!! Despite of being a franchise, as I have gone to other locations in NYC, dishes here are certainly authentic. This location is quite remote and sketchy as we were one of the four parked in the shopping center. I appreciate how they were still putting out fresh food when we walked in at 7pm. I may be overhyping it when I say this oxtail stew is the best I've had but it really is a panty dropper!! Meat easily falls off the bone and that sauce... oohhh that SAWSE. TIP: ask for extra gravy of whatever dish you end up getting over that rice. As far as their patties, I usually go for the spicy beef. I'm glad someone serves them all the way in Las Vegas because they're so good I'd have it everyday.
