I'm on the search for the Taiwanese style cake with fruit and cream. Bakery 1908 comes close to it. It was pretty easy to order, choose a style online and call to place the order. Just give the cashier the reference number for the style and you can customize a few different aspects to it. I believe it was about $50 for the cake but it was a fairly large cake and it comes with complimentary plates, candles, and utensils. No cake knife included. Everyone at my party loved the cake. I found multiple flies in my soup tonight, and it was extremely concerning. At first I noticed one, but after looking closer there were several small flies in the bowl and even around the lid/container. This did not seem like an isolated accident -- it made me seriously question the cleanliness and food safety practices here. I took several photos of the incident because it was honestly shocking. I understand mistakes happen, but this felt unacceptable, especially for a restaurant serving prepared food. I hope management takes this seriously, addresses any possible infestation issues immediately, and improves sanitation before serving more customers. read more

Went here for lunch with my S/O and two friends, immediately the menu stands out as having a good amount of options including vegetarian and vegan fare, including build-your-own options for noodle bowls, which is always a favorite. To the left there is a walk-around display with dozens of different options from savory to sweet, simple to complex, a little bit of everything. The cafeteria-style tray with a simple serve-yourself set up keeps things casual and unique from the display side while also having options for order on the kitchen side for a more transitional restaurant feel. Our group had a little bit of everything from the Shanghai soup dumplings (wonderful) to the bang bang chicken (decent, slightly lacking in flavor but cooked very nicely) to a make-your-own soup that was top notch! We also got an assortment of choices from the display case off to the side. The restaurant was clean and the staff were kind and attentive during the order portion, otherwise they were out of the way and not at all bothersome during our time dining. The ONE comment I have that would've made this a five star experience is that they do not have microwaves or ovens to heat up anything from the display case, so our hotdog bun, pineapple chicken bun, egg and cheese sandwich, and cinnamon braid were ALL cold. Ever had a cold hotdog with cold bread? Ew. This location desperately needs a way to heat up the items from the display cabinet, other than that, this place was great and I will be returning :) read more

I've been going to Bakery 1908 since they opened and so far the baked goods have been consistently delicious. Bakery 1908 also serves as a great place to study. There are not many outlets but there are many seats and tables. The food takes awhile on a busy weekend and the pastries run out by a certain time. My most recent visit I tried their tom yum soup with dumplings and I will say that the broth was very underwhelming and did not taste great. The dumplings were full and juicy. Bakery 1908 on Colonial Drive has quickly become one of my favorite spots to work and meet. I came here to cowork and have a business meeting with a friend, and it was the perfect environment. The space is very spacious, spotless, and filled with beautiful natural light thanks to all the windows! Such a calm, productive atmosphere. I was able to get a solid amount of work done without feeling rushed or crowded. Food-wise, everything was delicious. I grabbed a hot dog bun from the bakery, and also ordered the chive & onion chicken pan-fried dumplings, which were so flavorful and satisfying and let's not forget the BROWN SUGAR LATTE OMGGGGG! The onion roll, didn't have actual onions in it which was disappointing, it had a flavor of onion but tasted artificial like onion sauce. Currently, Bakery 1908 is my FAVORITE Asian Bakery. I need to visit them every time I am in the Orlando area. The parking lot is pretty limited, theres parking but imagine when theres a concert in town, that bakery is BUSY. They're busy even when there isn't a concert even. The employees each time have been nothing but very kind and helpful. They have such a large selection of baked good, bread, pastries, cakes, and drinks. I have one specific item that I MUST always get when I am there. There is something about the hotdog bun with bits of corn, cheese and scallion that has me in a chokehold. I hope that they never get rid of that item. It's a very busy bakery, so imagine trying to find seating when you're there. If you're lucky, you will be able to find a spot. There's an area near the door where there is cutlery, condiments, napkins and takeout boxes for you to just grab. A friend and I met up here for coffee, however, we both ended up ordering Oolong teas. LOL. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of sweet and savory pastries and buns that they serve here. The venue is practically self-serve - You self-select all of the pastries and buns that you want and then pay at the counter. Or you can place orders on the kiosk so that you don't have to stand in line. There is a lot of seating options both indoors and outdoors. It was pretty busy and packed when we arrived midday on a Saturday so we ended up seated outdoors. The weather was a little rainy but that made the temperature cool enough to enjoy being outside. I decided to try the Rose Iron Goddess Oolong tea because I liked the name. In hindsight, I should have ordered the Peach Oolong as it smelled absolutely amazing. I don't think that I like the taste or smell of rose in my drinks. I know not to order that the next time. Hands down the best bang for your Asian buck in Orlando! I regret not having tried Bakery 1908 before and am very much looking forward to my next time at this haven for Asian sweet and savory baked goods, milk teas, and mouthwatering dumplings. First time here was for lunch with a friend on a Friday. The place was packed. Though parking was a bit of a frenzy, the experience was well worth the inconvenience. I ordered the vegetable dumplings in soup, which was the perfect comfort food choice for a chilly day. I believe that the dumplings' dough was a bit too thin though, as the dumplings dismantled, which is the only small complaint I have about my entire experience at Bakery 1908. I also tried their ham, red onion, and cheese bun, an AMAZING bang for your buck, for only $3.25 (70% baked goods are VERY well priced). It was fluffy and full of flavor. I looked around and saw what other people had ordered from the menu: the steamed and pan-fried dumplings, the fried tofu cubes (an award-winning appetizer), the Taiwan popcorn chicken... everything looked tasty. Second time here was for afternoon tea and baked goods. We tried the egg sandwich, the garlic bun, and the chocolate crepe cake. The 3 of them were very good, but the egg sandwich (with egg, ham, cheese and corn, and burnt cheese ends, perfect pairing for a savory bun that is trying to be a sandwich and actually is able to pass as a delicious sandwich) and the cake (so many lawyers, perfect amount of cream) were the best. There are plenty of seating options inside and outside. I loved their pristine and well-organized display of baked goods and the gorgeous painted mural inside. Typically it is my favorite spot.. where I like to enjoy during the week but today's weekend experience deserved 3 stars. The shelf's were sold out during my visit (Saturday 5PM). There were about 20% of buns left. I ordered a coffee and I forgot to mention almond milk.. anyway they refunded my drink to made me pay again (the 30 cent difference). Very cute Chinese bakery and cafe! I've tried a good amount of the menu, and the food here consistently satisfies and I leave happy every time. You can order at the counter or at a kiosk (if you're not ordering pastries); service is convenient, friendly, and fast. The dim sum here is a favorite. It's not quite the same as having a dim sum cart come to you, but it definitely hits the spot and tastes great. We especially love the Har Gow, Siu Mai, Hong Kong Sticky Rice, and Steamed BBQ Pork Buns. The Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken is also a must-have. If you enjoy General Tso or other sweet chicken dishes, I recommend the Honey Walnut Chicken. My favorite thing to get here is actually the Wonton Dumplings in Soup -- it's always so light, yet hearty; and I love how simple and delicious it is. I don't recommend the soup dumplings here; they're not bad, but they're not as soup-filled as I expect. The drinks here are refreshing and delicious as well. They come in various fun bottles and containers. I don't get anything in particular, but I've liked all that I've tried. Honestly, the biggest drawback of this bakery is how crowded it can get during the weekends; finding a table can sort of be a bit stressful, especially if you're coming in with any size group. The ham and cheese would've been more delicious with a better ratio of bread to toppings, but the bread itself had a nice texture and was sweet and savory. They have so many buns and baked goods that are unique to this place and definitely not stuff I can grab back in the Bay Area. The chicken pineapple bun and matcha roll were delicious, and the matcha roll was almost nutty and not very sweet. I was so curious about other goods like the berry cinnamon roll and the peach bun, but I unfortunately only have one stomach. Drinks were honestly hit or miss. If you like your beverages on the much sweeter side, you might not like theirs much, but I really liked my black sesame milk tea with mochi! Ok but for the real review: Walk in, to your left theres an area where you pickup a tray and tongs to select pastries from the showcase. Each thing is like $3.50-$6, and the drinks are around $6 from the cafe. They do have sodas and other stuff that go for less in a fridge to the left. It's always clean and the bathrooms are also very nice. They assign you a number after you pay and it gets called out over the speaker if you're buying drinks and hot food which takes a while to cook up. Areas are kept clean but in busy times of day you might wanna claim a table sooner rather than later. Overall 10/10 rec for a student looking for a cheap bite out. read more

I decided to check this place out on a Sunday around 2pm. The parking lot had a handful of available spots. The exterior of the building is very unassuming. I almost missed my turn into the parking lot actually. Lol Upon entering, the interior is the complete opposite. Its clean, white and natural wood decor is inviting. I perused the pastries to figure out what I wanted before grabbing a tray and tongs. I appreciated the label above the trays instructing patrons to give your tongs to the cashier to be sanitized instead of hanging them back up when you're done with them. The label is quite small though. I'm sure a lot of patrons don't even notice it. A larger sign would be better. They have a huge selection! I highly recommend coming with a couple friends and sharing. I grabbed an Ube croissant and Taro donut and hopped in line to checkout. The line was a little long, but it moved very quick. While waiting in line, I checked out the offerings in the cold case near the front door. There were some type of puddings, mousse, and roll-up/swirl cakes. They also have another cold case at the registers with different offerings, which was difficult to peruse since you're basically at checkout. I'll have to take a closer look next time. I placed an order for a Matcha Milk Tea with Drinkable Mochi and paid for my pastries. I sat down at a table and dug in! I would like to preface this by saying I don't have a lot of experience with Asian pastries/treats, so I don't have anything to compare the Ube and taro flavors to. The taro donut was very neutral. It wasn't overly sweet or very flavorful. I really enjoyed the texture of the taro filling as well as the donut. I probably wouldn't get it again because of the variety they offer. The Ube croissant was good. I don't really know what Ube tastes like, but it was perfectly sweet- unlike a lot of overly sweet store-bought pastries/desserts. I enjoyed the texture of the croissant and the Ube cream filling was a nice addition that I wasn't expecting. I thought the topping was the Ube part of the croissant. I would get another croissant, but probably not the Ube one again. The flavor didn't really wow me, and they have so many other delicious flavors to choose from! I got about a third of the way through my donut when my drink was ready. They call out your receipt number over a microphone. My drink came out quickly. The Matcha Milk Tea was perfect! The drinkable mochi was a new and interesting experience for me. The flavor paired well with the matcha. The texture is definitely weird, kind of like slime? I don't think I'd order the drinkable mochi again, but I'm glad I tried it! If you're a texture-sensitive person, this may not be the topping for you though.
