There is so much to love about Bakery 1908, from the fluffy pork buns to the delicious fruity teas!!! This has been my go-to Asian bakery ever since Saigon Market closed down and they have not disappointed. My favorites include the pork floss bun, sponge cakes, and hot dog buns! Personally, I would skip the trendy croissant cubes because they're not as good as they look. It's usually more bread than filling and I've had the same experience with other places too. When it comes to service, I've always had good experiences at Bakery 1908 and I really like how they have a self-ordering kiosk for dishes and drinks if you'd rather skip ordering at the counter. I think the cakes are a little bit more expensive than the buns because of extra craftsmanship but it's completely worth it. For me, the biggest downside to Bakery 1908 is the location. Mills has always been a busy area and it can be hard to leave the parking lot. But otherwise it's completely worth the visit and a lot more accessible than other restaurants there. Compared to similar bakeries of that concept (tour les jours, Paris Baguette) Bakery 1908 manages to be expansive and faithful to each of their branches. Their desserts are ok, but their tea is amazing, and the matcha and coffee and great as well. Haven't had the ramen but it's coming up. This may be more of a cultural proximity, but I wholeheartedly appreciated the speediness, straightforwardness, and helpfulness in their service. Some of the other cafed I've been to with a similar concept are clumsy, bad at fulfilling orders, and overly pushy with tips and up selling. Bakery 1908 gave me what I wanted, how I wanted it, as I wanted one. Actually, the missing star is because of the actual quality of the bakery. It may be because of the time of the day (they had a buy two get one free offer), but their desserts lacked some filling/flavor. Nothing that accompanying them with a good drink wouldn't solve. Last couple times I've gone here, it's been mid-afternoon and just wildly busy. The acoustics are kind of rough, so when it's full in there, it is impossible to hear the person you're sitting with. Something I would definitely encourage them to correct. Otherwise, ambience is great, tons of different types of seating and all very comfortable. This time, I came in the evening, and it was far less crowded. I love any of their pastries with pork floss and have gotten those each time. This time I also got a cream bun, an egg tart, and a boba Thai tea. Their buns are dense and chewy and delicious. I love how easy it is to take things to go. Their boba is tender and not overly sweet, a nice accompaniment to the tea . Their milk teas all do contain dairy, but the cream is lactose free. We got the taro latte and brown sugar Oreo milk at 100% sweetness and the taro was creamy and fragrant. The brown sugar Oreo milk was way too sweet, but I should have adjusted the sweetness level. We also got the lemon tart and strawberry donut. The tart was more of a cheesecake consistency but the zest was great. The donut was soft and fresh! Service was excellent, there was a line of 3-4 people waiting so an employee opened up the second register to get customers going. The ambiance is modern and bright with a decent amount of seating to work or meet up with company. Unfortunately, the one thing I didn't enjoy was the thing I was looking forward to most. The pineapple bun. Usually, a pineapple bun doesn't contain real pineapple chunks. Here, they do. The bread itself was great, but it was a surprise that left me disappointed as it otherwise would've been perfect. One other concern is parking. I'm on the search for the Taiwanese style cake with fruit and cream. Bakery 1908 comes close to it. It was pretty easy to order, choose a style online and call to place the order. Just give the cashier the reference number for the style and you can customize a few different aspects to it. I believe it was about $50 for the cake but it was a fairly large cake and it comes with complimentary plates, candles, and utensils. No cake knife included. Everyone at my party loved the cake. You can buy them already packaged or you can grab a tray, some tongs and pick anything you want from the glass display cases. When I say abundance, I mean there are a plethora of pastries from sweet to savory. They also have hot foods as well. The traditional dumpling soup is really good or you can build your own bowl. There are not many outlets but there are many seats and tables. The food takes awhile on a busy weekend and the pastries run out by a certain time. My most recent visit I tried their tom yum soup with dumplings and I will say that the broth was very underwhelming and did not taste great. The dumplings were full and juicy. The space is very spacious, spotless, and filled with beautiful natural light thanks to all the windows! Such a calm, productive atmosphere. Currently, Bakery 1908 is my FAVORITE Asian Bakery. I need to visit them every time I am in the Orlando area. The parking lot is pretty limited, theres parking but imagine when theres a concert in town, that bakery is BUSY. They're busy even when there isn't a concert even. The employees each time have been nothing but very kind and helpful. They have such a large selection of baked good, bread, pastries, cakes, and drinks. I have one specific item that I MUST always get when I am there. There is something about the hotdog bun with bits of corn, cheese and scallion that has me in a chokehold. I hope that they never get rid of that item. It's a very busy bakery, so imagine trying to find seating when you're there. If you're lucky, you will be able to find a spot. There's an area near the door where there is cutlery, condiments, napkins and takeout boxes for you to just grab. A friend and I met up here for coffee, however, we both ended up ordering Oolong teas. LOL. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of sweet and savory pastries and buns that they serve here. The venue is practically self-serve - You self-select all of the pastries and buns that you want and then pay at the counter. Or you can place orders on the kiosk so that you don't have to stand in line. There is a lot of seating options both indoors and outdoors. It was pretty busy and packed when we arrived midday on a Saturday so we ended up seated outdoors. The weather was a little rainy but that made the temperature cool enough to enjoy being outside. I decided to try the Rose Iron Goddess Oolong tea because I liked the name. In hindsight, I should have ordered the Peach Oolong as it smelled absolutely amazing. I don't think that I like the taste or smell of rose in my drinks. I know not to order that the next time. I found multiple flies in my soup tonight, and it was extremely concerning. At first I noticed one, but after looking closer there were several small flies in the bowl and even around the lid/container. This did not seem like an isolated accident -- it made me seriously question the cleanliness and food safety practices here. I took several photos of the incident because it was honestly shocking. I understand mistakes happen, but this felt unacceptable, especially for a restaurant serving prepared food. Hands down the best bang for your Asian buck in Orlando! I regret not having tried Bakery 1908 before and am very much looking forward to my next time at this haven for Asian sweet and savory baked goods, milk teas, and mouthwatering dumplings. First time here was for lunch with a friend on a Friday. The place was packed. Though parking was a bit of a frenzy, the experience was well worth the inconvenience. I ordered the vegetable dumplings in soup, which was the perfect comfort food choice for a chilly day. I believe that the dumplings' dough was a bit too thin though, as the dumplings dismantled, which is the only small complaint I have about my entire experience at Bakery 1908. I also tried their ham, red onion, and cheese bun, an AMAZING bang for your buck, for only $3.25 (70% baked goods are VERY well priced). It was fluffy and full of flavor. I looked around and saw what other people had ordered from the menu: the steamed and pan-fried dumplings, the fried tofu cubes (an award-winning appetizer), the Taiwan popcorn chicken... everything looked tasty. Second time here was for afternoon tea and baked goods. We tried the egg sandwich, the garlic bun, and the chocolate crepe cake. The 3 of them were very good, but the egg sandwich (with egg, ham, cheese and corn, and burnt cheese ends, perfect pairing for a savory bun that is trying to be a sandwich and actually is able to pass as a delicious sandwich) and the cake (so many lawyers, perfect amount of cream) were the best. There are plenty of seating options inside and outside. I loved their pristine and well-organized display of baked goods and the gorgeous painted mural inside. There were about 20% of buns left. I ordered a coffee and I forgot to mention almond milk.. anyway they refunded my drink to made me pay again (the 30 cent difference). The curry chicken bun was mostly bun with a hint of chicken filling, mostly just bread. The onion roll, didn't have actual onions in it which was disappointing, it had a flavor of onion but tasted artificial like onion sauce. You can order at the counter or at a kiosk (if you're not ordering pastries); service is convenient, friendly, and fast. The dim sum here is a favorite. It's not quite the same as having a dim sum cart come to you, but it definitely hits the spot and tastes great. We especially love the Har Gow, Siu Mai, Hong Kong Sticky Rice, and Steamed BBQ Pork Buns. The Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken is also a must-have. If you enjoy General Tso or other sweet chicken dishes, I recommend the Honey Walnut Chicken. My favorite thing to get here is actually the Wonton Dumplings in Soup -- it's always so light, yet hearty; and I love how simple and delicious it is. I don't recommend the soup dumplings here; they're not bad, but they're not as soup-filled as I expect. The drinks here are refreshing and delicious as well. They come in various fun bottles and containers. I don't get anything in particular, but I've liked all that I've tried. Honestly, the biggest drawback of this bakery is how crowded it can get during the weekends; finding a table can sort of be a bit stressful, especially if you're coming in with any size group. The ham and cheese would've been more delicious with a better ratio of bread to toppings, but the bread itself had a nice texture and was sweet and savory. They have so many buns and baked goods that are unique to this place and definitely not stuff I can grab back in the Bay Area. The chicken pineapple bun and matcha roll were delicious, and the matcha roll was almost nutty and not very sweet. I was so curious about other goods like the berry cinnamon roll and the peach bun, but I unfortunately only have one stomach. Drinks were honestly hit or miss.
